The best character creation conversation I ever had

Me, to a friend: Okay so you have a character who in the past, wiped out an entire city (to stop a fantasy version of a fantasy plague. He didn't have time to do anything else, it was either destroy the entire city or let half a million plague infected people spread around the map). I'd like to make a vengeance filled survivor villain for him.

Friend: He used extremely powerful magic to blast that city off the map to make sure no one survived.

Me: This character was a teenager at the time and she was traveling, came back to find the entire fucking city gone and swore revenge and all that fun stuff.

Friend: Sure. Do you have any ideas for her family. Cuz his bio parents who gave him up as a baby were in that city and he knew he was killing them too. Want them to be related?

Me, realizing the angst potential of this situation of making them long lost siblings who didn't know about each other and are now enemies: oh my god my birthday came early
