i'm doing that thing where i try to use up one of my 'bad' sketchbooks but by the time i do i'm so accustomed to the paper that i start thinking about buying another one.

this is the famous muse "f0-homo drawing book" which i got in japan for painting classes and later discovered that it's included with the childrens (?) ghibli museum sketching set which seems really popular. i think the book is just like any other student quality book and is pretty unremarkable, im guessing it was included in the set because its geared to outdoor sketching.

speaking of which, it gave me a sad snicker looking at the instructions that come with this set online, because obviously its ghibli so all the advice and example sketches feature sunlit greens and farmhouse porches, which is obviously a huge aesthetic draw, but i was thinking.. "you only really get to draw that if thats what your world is like". a lot of ghibli films feature countryside 'old family homes' that are no doubt important to miyazaki's past, but that's sort of his thing. i grew up in a hilariously run-down Khrushchevka building so i drew this instead. for a taste of the real thing check out this article from 2012 where a bunch of urban explorers went around my street! i dont usually draw backgrounds because while this kind of landscape would be closest to my self-expression, boxes are boring, so i don't do it much. but then i watched (a video of a man on youtube talk loudly over) skinamarink (because im scared to watch the real thing) and thought "maybe i dont actually need to take a literal approach to this and i can draw smth abstract that captures the same feeling of being in it". so that's the kind of thing im drawing now.

They were also rent controlled and as such affordable, Housing and Urban Development subsidized some of the rent lets low income people live in places that there's no way they could afford to live in otherwise, crapped out the property value in the surrounding areas some too, but even then you're still not going to be able to afford a place to live in San Francisco.

Archive link so no fuss about a paywall, TL:DR; the people that were basically given the apartments rent free trashed the whole place, projects got to that point too, no pride of ownership.

I can't think of a single reason to praise/glorify the projects other than the nice bit about knowing where everyone else is financially, not like that stopped them from robbing each other all the time.

Ghetto is a term that was coined to give a name to the parts of a city that were where Jews were allowed to live, not sure how it managed to break containment and just mean depressed neighborhood, but ya the projects are ghetto and for some reason ghetto is good to some people.

I'd rather make my way out of the ghetto if I could.

A parte l'assenza di ascensori, i parcheggi fantasiosi, l'odore di cemento armato negli spazi comuni e l'indescrivibile deficit termico devo dire che come verde, pulizia, giochi per bambini, aeree per camminare e sedersi il tutto si presenta spesso molto meglio dei casermoni italiani da nord a sud isole comprese.

Jewel, I’m sorry bae but I need to come and bother you because I’ve been looking through your blog to find something and I just noticed I missed the entire discourse on OT7 astro placements.

I’m not the biggest believer/fan of shit like that, but if this little breakdown of Yoongi doesn’t sound like ALL march Pisces people then idk what does:

yoongi — yoongi's chart is interesting because it's half "i don't give a fuck what you think about me" energy and half calm, gentle placements. i think he embodies his entire chart, tbh. we know young yoongi was really angry. we know he's grown a lot. we know he's not the super grumpy, cold personality people like to pigeonhole him as.

As a march Pisces (March 6th ‘94 to be exact, so yes y’all better pray for me next week when the 30 comes for me like) I can confirm:

We are all psychos (think like Italian mafia omertà shit). Most of us are depressed and/or anxious. We ALL have a metric fuckton of repressed anger that we don’t know what to do with (well, Yoongi obviously figured it out but you catch my drift). We tend to be overthinkers and grumpy cats, but when we care about things/animals/people we CARE. I can tell you rn that for me, my rbf and my borderline introverted personality did not help me make friends in any environment I found myself in. But once people made effort, and we got to know each other better, every single one of them went “Jesus I thought you were a huge bitch, but you’re just a really emo-witchy-goth-teddy bear, aren’t you”. And it took me a long while to accept that yes, I am, I am actually a teddy bear but I also grew up in an Eastern European post-Soviet khrushchevka and had 3 older male cousins, so if you look at my best friend wrong, I will fucking shank you.

And as for Yoongi, when my bff first introduced me to BTS she said “oh you guys are so alike, he reminds me of you a lil too much” and I was like sure Jan at first, but then the puzzle pieces started making sense??? Down to the “raised by strict parents and starting to hit their stride once closer to their 30s” thing.

nearly every single person in my life i hold near & dear to me has at least one pisces placement in their big 3. i love u pisces they could never make me hate u 🫶🏻

you sound a lot like my best friend. she is very confrontational and will always, always stand up for what she believes in and thinks is right. gets labeled as aggressive a lot. has a lot of things to work through. but she’s the type of person you want in your corner, 100%. she would walk through hellfire for the people she cares about.
