if you have any clothes to sell, try poshmark! Amazon gives you the option to send your stuff to them to handle shipping but u get less $
thank you! unfortunately i don’t have any sellable clothes, it’s mostly books and electronics. i was thinking maybe ebay but that seems like so much work/potentially not v profitable so maybe amazon is the way to go after all for sake of just getting it done.

Why The Clip from NHL15 of the 3 Girls Taking Selfies Is Sexist: A Mathematical Explanation
So today I got into an argument regarding the fact that in the NHL 15 Gameplay trailer that was released recently, they feature a snapshot of three women taking selfies at the game:
I said it was sexist because the only fans that are shown to be taking "selfies" instead of watching/cheering for the game like the rest of the fans are female. This goes back to the whole "fake female sports fans" stereotype, where men actually care about the sport, while women are ~fake fans that don't know any of the rules and are only there because either their boyfriends dragged them along or because they want to feel ~cool and impress their friends by being A Sports Fan.
But one of my male friends disagreed with me. He said that it was unrealistic to get upset over only three instagram snapshots, because he was sure that the actual gameplay included more than just women taking selfies, and that we should wait until we had a "larger sample size" to make judgements.
I'm going to disprove that statement, using basic math and statistics.
Instead, let's focus on gathering as much statistical information as possible.
If the crowd were split 50/50 male-female, then the probability of three female fans even being "randomly chosen" (i.e. the game choosing a fan to take a selfie is an independent event, unrelated to the previous and next choice, and the probability is 50% every time - think tossing a coin and getting heads three times in a row) as the fans to take selfies is 12.5%, as shown below:
P(All 3 Fans are Female)
=(P(Female Fan) * P(Female Fan) * P(Female Fan)
=.5 * .5 * .5
=.125 = 12.5%
See? Super simple math. Anyone who's graduated middle school has been taught this math - and it's this simple fucking math that will prove why the selfies screenshot is bullshit.
Now, that's assuming that the crowd is split equally. But we know that's not the case; there are clearly more males in the crowd than females. But let's do some math anyway.
In order to figure out the probability of being a male fan vs a female fan, I took a few snapshots of the video. I found scenes where we were given clear close-ups of the fans and counted how many fans were female and how many were male. Now, in order to do this, we're going to have to make some (albeit unfair) assumptions and generalizations:
Males and females are designated so by hair length, facial features, body type, and clothing. Essentially, if a fan looks male, then he is; if a fan looks female, then she is. Clearly, this is not always the case (I could be mistaken), nor should you make these generalizations in real life, but for the purposes of this, let's just assume.
If a fan cannot clearly be identified physically as male or female in the snapshot, either because it's blurry or unclear in any way, or for any reason I am not 100% positive that the fan is male or female, then they are simply not counted.
If a fan is covered in face paint but their facial features still clearly denote a sex, then they are that sex. Fans with facial coverings that do not allow facial features to be shown (masks, etc.) are not counted, even if their general body type denotes a sex.
A fan is only included in the counts if they are, in fact, a fan. The vendors roaming the aisles are not included, even if they might be fans of the game in their hypothetical off-time, because hey, they're hypothetically being paid to be there.
Most importantly: I am attempting to be as unbiased as possible. I am not purposely choosing to show male fans are more present or female fans as absent, simply to skew the results in my favour.
In total, I ended up with nine screenshots of the trailer, and I was able to count the male and female fans within each screenshot, to the best of my ability. I've featured a gif of my counting process below (red denoted male fans, blue denotes female fans), so you can determine the clarity of my choices:
In this screenshot, I identified 9 males and 4 females.
In fact, I've uploaded ALL of the screenshots, just in case you guys didn't believe me. They all include time stamps as well, just in case you want to go back and ~check my work: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.
Counting all the fans from all the screenshots, I found 92 males and 34 females, which gives me a total of 126 fans.
That means that generally, based on my (albeit flawed) sampling, the probability that a fan will be male is 73.02%:
P(Male Fan) = Total Amount of Males/Total Amount of Fans
= 92/126 = .7302 = 73.02%
Conversely, the probability that a fan will be female is 26.98%.
P(Female Fan) = Total Amount of Females/Total Amount of Fans
= 34/126 = .2698 = 26.98%
That means that the probability that all three fans "randomly chosen" to be the fans showing off the selfie fan "personalities" of the gameplay are female would be 1.96%.
P(All 3 Fans are Female)
=(P(Female Fan) * P(Female Fan) * P(Female Fan)
= .2698 * .2698 * .2698
= .0196 = 1.96%
That means that there is less than a 2% chance that all three of the selfie fans were "randomly chosen" by the game to be female. That sounds pretty unlikely to me.
BUT WHAT DOES THIS ALL MEAN, REALLY?
What it means is that it's so statistically unlikely that it's almost statistically impossible, based on the scenarios that EA itself has created, for them to have just ~randomly chosen three fans that turned out to be females in order for the selfies shot. Only twice out of every 100 times that they choose three fans to take selfies would there be the possibility that all three fans would be female.
But what does all this math actually mean?
Abso-fucking-lutely nothing. You know why? Because this scenario isn't randomly computer generated; it is deliberate. All of this math is based on the inherent knowledge that there is no bias, but we clearly know that that's logically not the case. The PR/media team that worked to put together that video was very deliberate in all of the gameplay examples they gave. Gameplay shown to the public is a product of the thought process and motivations of the PR team, what aspects they felt would attract audiences the most. They specifically chose images that they believed would appeal to the intended audience. In fact, the entire trailer's main point is that NHL15 is attempting to stay as true to life as possible.
That means, that from the perspective of EA Sports, the truest image that was highlighted about female fans was the fact that they went to sports games to take selfies. Furthermore, of the three "different types" of selfies shown, one of the females said she didn't understand how the offsides rule even worked and another was called a bandwagon fan after captioning her picture as being there "with ma gurrlzzzz!!"
Is this what EA Sports thinks is the truest-to-life example of female fans? Out of three random female fans, one of them wouldn't understand the game and another is probably a "bandwagon" fan with immature spelling? Only the last one seems like a ~regular fan (read: the scenario could have also been applied to a male fan). Really, EA Sports?
Female fan representation within the video should be more than just "taking selfies." While men are shown to be decked out in full body paint and gear (signifying a "hardcore fan"), the only women that get full close-ups and face time are the ones taking selfies. That's just not fair.
But before you say "but Nili, women DO take more selfies, so really, it's all legit", let me say: so fucking what? Even if you do point me to some study that says generally women are more likely to take selfies than men, that doesn't mean that there AREN'T males who take selfies. In fact, look, here's a study that says that while women tend to take more selfies than men BEFORE the age of 40, men are more likely to take selfies than women AFTER the age of 40.
The fact of the matter is that female fan representation within sports is generally written off as inconsequential and a joke. Female fans are always questioned as to whether they're "real fans" (i.e. do you know every single player on your team and their stats for the last five years, as well as every rule, penalty, and nuance within the game, if you don't, then you're not a real fan) and what their motives are for watching the sport (did your boyfriend drag you here? are you here to meet guys? or are you just a puck bunny, waiting to jump on rich, attractive hockey players' dicks?). Yes, this seriously happens to female fans, all the time. We're constantly shut down, constantly tested, constantly bullied, and the only way to change that is for it become more socially acceptable for there to be female fans.
That's why it's up to the EA Sports and the NHL and all the teams to be the example and represent female fans as a legitimate section of the fanbase. We need female representation within the NHL and its games, both real and virtual, to be realistic and serious. If every time a female fan is shown taking a selfie or doing some other mundane action that alludes to them not really caring about the game/only being there for superficial reasons, then eventually male fans are going to assume that that's all that female fans care about. However, if female fans are shown to be knowledgeable and invested in the game, then pretty soon, male fans are going to start accepting female fans as "real" fans.
It's not like we're asking for a lot here. All we want is to be represented fairly and equally.

gimme a D E P & T plz
the dept of meredith bein a nerd here we go
D - A pairing you wish you liked but just can’t (again: be nice)
oh gosh. lots. most. not any kind of active dislike though? i just don’t ship a lot. i’m a pretty tried and true friendship and found family person so i’m usually just quietly going ‘sib-lings sib-lings sib-lings’ where no one can hear me but like i can def get hype with someone when they get excited about their ships bc hell yeah
E - Have you added anything cracky/hilarious to your fandom, if so, what
i don’t think i’ve added anything, but maybe all of our turn shenanigans can be termed cracky bc it is a serious show abt serious spies. i once added a bangin fanmix with all EDM to the 100 if that counts i’m still proud of that fanmix
P - Invent a random AU for any fandom (we always need more ideas)
i really want the sensates as jaeger pilots which is super cliche but i want it a lot. also give me any of my fandoms with more swash and buckle like a musketeers or pirates of the caribbean au there’s like none of those in fanfics
T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending, about anything at all (gender identity, sexual or romantic orientation, extended family, sexual preferences like top/bottom/switch, relationship with poetry, seriously anything)
i will go to my grave fightin bitches about 2 things:
1. james potter is not white (and also a good person but the tide has swayed over in his favor thank the lord baby jesus)
2. steve rogers is bisexual
#khalstyles#also tentatively on the last one that wolfgang bogdanow is a Good Person and Not Your Bad Boy Assassin Cliche#but it depends on how much i get riled up over the next months abt it

of the hockey players to like those are a+ ones in my books, dang. who is your cousin?
I'm glad it's the good ones!! My cousin's Chris DeSousa, so all the fights happened during their OHL days. Now he plays for PEI, I think, but he may try to go for NHL next year (I have no idea how it works, but I can't help but hope he doesn't make it because a) I'm petty and b) I don't want his face on my dash).
#khalstyles#superficialgarbage#i can't help but creep him every once in a while#just to see if his chances of getting in are changing#and for family stuff#i hate my aunt on that side of the family#she's a typical aggressive yelling hockey mom except her kid is a goddamn adult#anyway#it's always fun to see people you don't care for getting punched by actual professional athletes
