Internet of things

Eerder in de lessen multimedia kreeg ik de opdracht om een filmpje te bespreken rond het thema ‘Internet of things’. Ik vond dit thema zo interessant dus zocht ik er nog wat verdere info rond.

Technologie bestaat in alle aspecten van ons leven. Via gsm, tablets, laptops, televisie, … hebben we meerdere malen per dag te maken met technologie. Internet of Things is de benaming voor de evolutie waarbij in een onnoemelijk aantal voorwerpen technologie en het internet geïntegreerd zullen worden. in 1999 bedacht Kevin Ashton de term Internet of things.

Via the Internet of things kunnen we communiceren met al onze apparaten alsof het levende wezens zijn. Vergeten waar je je tandenborstel liet slingeren? Vraag het je huis! Via de technologie is het mogelijk om heel wat gebruiksvoorwerpen ‘slim’ te maken.

Internet of things, verre toekomst? Helemaal niet! Een voorbeeld van de hedendaagse technologie is ‘Nest’. Nest maakt thermostaten en rookmelders met iPhone-connectiviteit. 

Via de instellingen die je zelf maakt via je thermostaat leert Nest welke je voorkeuren precies zijn. Zo kan het apparaat automatisch de temperatuur instellen naar je eigen voorkeuren.

  Internet of things is dan wel actueel, het zal nog een heel eind duren vooraleer het in deze wereld ingeburgerd zal raken. Vele applicaties staan nog in hun kinderschoenen en hebben nog veel verbetering nodig. Ook zijn vele van deze verbeteringen heel erg duur.

The Internet of Things is zeker op komst, maar de vraag is of onze generatie al deze toepassingen nog zal kunnen meemaken… Ik hoop van wel!
