Polywise Review
Tumblr media
When I first learned of non-monogamous, I seeked out as many resources as possible to learn if I really was it. Some of the most important resources were a few books. The communities I found made it seemed like you were not even allowed to have a license to be polyamorous unless you first read certain books. At that time, the holy bible of polyamory was More Than Two and before it was The Ethical Sluts. These were the books everybody recommended as a must-read if anybody wanted to learn more about polyamory, no matter what aspect of polyamory they wanted to learn more about. These books were hyped up like they would cover everything. Those books have fallen out of favor now a days and are hardly ever recommended and when they are people are quick to jump in to talk about their controversies as a reason why nobody should read them for them anything. So a new book had come along to become the new holy bible of polyamory. That book was Polysecure by Jessica Fern. How do I feel about Polysecure? I think it is a good book that is over-rated and over-recommended. Unlike the previous bibles, I do not see Polysecure as a polyamory 101 book. It does not get into the very basics of polyamory at all. It is much more of a polyamory 102 book, a book to read once you are ready dig deeper and study the more advanced topics. I think it is great we have 102 books! I am glad that every polyamory book out there is not just an introduction to polyamory. I often mention that "Love's Not Colorblind" by Kevin Patterson is a fantastic polyamory 102 book! Polysecure feels more focused on attachment theory than polyamory honestly to me. It is really interesting stuff to read but I never really felt like it applied much to my relationship, I rarely felt insecure in my relationships. I had other problems that needed working on in different ways.
So all that to say that Jessica Fern had a second book come out. And despite having some issues with the community worshipping the first book, I was ready to give the author another chance. It sounded like this book was going to be more of what the community makes Polysecure out to be. And yeah, I am happy to say it is accurate. Now I still don't think this is quite a polyamory 101 book. If you want an introduction to polyamory that covers all the basics there are other books I would recommend like "The Smart Girl's Guide To Polyamory" by Dedecker Winston or "Ready For Polyamory" by Laura Boyle. But Polywise is more of a 101 book than Polysecure is. Maybe Polysecure is really a 103 book with Polywise being 102.
Whhat do I have to say about the contents of Polywise? Honestly not much despite everything I prefaced it with. The book is good and i liked quite a bit! But like the last book, it is meaty intellectual topics that make your brain think. Which makes it a bit hard to summarize and untangle in a simple review without going page by page. I do like how much focus is put on how many little tiny things change when going from monogamy to non-monogamy that you wouldn't think of or plan for. Also the whole book has an angle of not just monogamy to non-monogamy but also one form of non-monogamy to a different form of non-monogamy. It is very thought-provoking. From my favorite chapter was on codependency & differentiation. It was amazing to have words for these phenomenons I had personally observed serveral times but didn't know what to call it. I feel like that chapter in particular will be really useful to a lot of people. Finally there was a lot of unpacking old habits that were once useful but are now harmful. It really shines a spotlight on the shift to non-monogamy being a really big change that I don't think a lot of newbies often understand.
I highly recommend Polywise: A Deeper Dive Into Navigating Open Relationships by Jessica Fern & David Cooley. I think it is a better book than Polysecure. My caveat is I don't know if it should be the very first book you read about Polyamory.

☁️ Cloudlands AU ☁️
Fairly OddParents
A serious deep-dive into FOP's worldbuilding, with a focus on sewing seemingly conflicting canon together to create consistent lore. Heavy emphasis on non-human biology and complex magical cultures.
#ridwork guides
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What Is Cloudlands AU?
An FOP series ft. detailed lore and character relationships. The goal is fanfics that expand on the show's canon without conflicting it if at all possible, even if that means wild explanations.
Why does Crocker's portal to Fairy World have a completely new design every time it appears? Who's that anti-fairy kid Jorgen claims H.P. and Anti-Cosmo raised together? What's up with the Sacred Silver Pencil Sharpener of Canada? And are you telling me Cosmo and Wanda were assigned as godparents to Erg 40,000 years before they were married, presumably while Wanda and Juandissimo were dating? What was that like? We talk about it all!
A carefully considered magic system does a lot of heavy lifting. ❤️
AO3 Series: 130 Station, Rainbow Train, and Other Arcs
FOP blog tag - #FAIRIES!
Tone
Mostly drama with fluff and angst mixed in.
Characters
Mainly Pixies (H.P. & Sanderson), Anti-Fairies (Anti-Cosmo, Anti-Wanda, Foop), & the late modern kids (Poof, Goldie, Goldie's counterpart Anti-Marigold).
Cosmo, Wanda, Timmy, Chloe, and other humans (such as Denzel Crocker, Kevin Crocker, Gary, Betty, and Ed Leadly) also have arcs and messy backstories.
Ships
Canon-compliant, but expanded on. Ex:
- Anti-Cosmo married his childhood betrothed while Anti-Wanda was dating Anti-Juandissimo.
- H.P. and several OCs across his long life. Those romances go... great!
- Shout-out to Mark/Vicky, Poof/Goldie, Foop/Anti-Marigold, Foop/Anti-Coriander, Timmy/Molly & Chloe/Kevin (My beloveds...)
- Also worth mentioning that I treat Wanda/Juandissimo as a sincere and pleasant part of their backstories. They went their separate ways, but had a non-abusive dating life. They were friends :)
- Sanderson has a ton of will o' the wisp dating life issues, but we don't have time to unpack that right now.
Setting
Most works take place in the cloudlands, which include Fairy World, Anti-Fairy World, and Pixie World. Some works takes place in Dimmsdale. Rarely works take place elsewhere, such as alien planets or Unwish Island.
Is It For Me?
This AU is highly detailed. It clings to canon to the point of being ridiculous. It can be tough to get into due to long works and a heavy focus on less popular characters (such as Pixies), but there's a lot to read.
This AU focuses more on magical beings in the supporting cast than it does the main cast, but there are still notable pieces about the mains.
For a breakdown of detailed lore, see the Orange Train post
Major Themes
Growing up, making mistakes, pushing through hard times, recovery, revenge, forgiveness, growth, change, and letting go.
Plot Highlights
- Origin of the Pixies - A young H.P. contracts the real-world bacteria Wolbachia pipientis, which causes wasps to reproduce asexually. Now he's caring for an exponentially increasing amount of pixies he never wanted in the first place, on top of drama like his wife accusing him of cheating and him being kidnapped by Cupid's family because he's the holotype of a brand new species.
- Frayed Knots - Anti-Cosmo, raised in the anti-fairy baby ban era, experiments with Anti-Fairy biology in the hopes he'll discover a loophole to achieve his dream of being a father. In doing so, he finds a breakthrough that could possibly flip biology around so Anti-Fairies are the hosts and Fairies are their reflective counterparts bound to their whims... and he becomes obsessed with fathering a generation whose biology is exactly that.
- 130 Reasons Why I'm Fairy Trash - Happy Peppy Gary and Betty were raised as Pixie tools since they were 10. At age 18, Betty opts to wipe her magical memories, cut ties with Gary, and move to Brightburg. Gary, blindsided and desperate, throws himself down a trainwreck of bad decisions in an attempt to retrieve her memories from Fairy World. Everybody clap for him. (And other stories.)
- Come What May - Kevin Crocker spends the spring with an uncle and grandmother he's never met. Ghosts, the popular kids, an anti-fairy, and his uncle's talking cat make it their personal mission to bother him. It's a good thing he's dead inside.
Ongoing?
This long-term passion project began in March 2016. It is ongoing with intent to wrap up the existing projects in the next several years. Updates tend to come in bursts with breaks in between.
- Want AO3 emails? Subscribing to both the Rainbow Train & 130 Station series will cover everything in Cloudlands AU.
- Or, subscribe to specific plot arcs. Find the list HERE.
Warnings, notes, and explanations below so readers can learn more about this AU. Proceed with caution. Don't like? Don't read.
- There are abused children, neglectful adults, and non-human characters in fanfics for the show about abused children, neglectful adults, and non-human characters?? Scandalous. (Seriously though, this one's a doozy)
👀 Take a Peek
New here? You might like to start with these:
- "Mama's Boy" (G - 3000 words) - A back-and-forth comparison of Cosmo's upbringing against Anti-Cosmo's. Quick and easy read, and definitely a fan-favorite.
- "Make You Proud" (G - 4700 words) - Anti-Wanda is excited that she won a gold medal at the Fairy World Games. She tries to get Anti-Cosmo's attention while he's distracted with the event. Fluffy, silly character study.
- "Step Back" (G - 5600 words) - Foop gets overwhelmed at a party with his extended family. A brief glimpse into Anti-Fairy World and who Foop is shaping up to be as a person. Foop is my favorite to write character studies for and this is an oldie, but a goodie.
- "Solo" (T - 6000 words) - A young pixie answers phones as part of his coming of age trial. Things go awry when Gary and Betty call for help from Florida and the inexperienced pixie is at a loss about how to get them back to California. Takes place during the S4 episode "Baby Face." Huge personal favorite of mine; this is where plot really kicks off. Good introduction to the drama you can expect in a lot of my work.
- "Sentry" (G - 6000 words) - The start of a 3-part arc about Poof, Foop, and their pixie classmate (Finley) at boarding school before transitioning to spring break. The arc starts with Poof getting in trouble for fighting, then moves to Poof reflecting while on the bus, then moves to the three kids spending time with their grandparents.
- Very soft drama with some fluff; a good taste without getting overwhelmed. Also, this arc is more recent than the pieces above, which were posted in 2016. - Takes place at the end of 130 Prompts Arc 2, so it does contain very minor plot spoilers.
Start Reading
Recommended ways to get into the full AU
🌄 First Written - Baby, You're a Rich Man
H.P. and Sanderson got their hands on a baby clown. Now they just have to get him safely back to Pixie World when they've been deprived of magic and damaged their truck.
- Based on the Season 4 episode "School's Out! The Musical" - An introduction to magic basics, biology, and world lore through Sanderson's eyes. - Throws readers directly into the thick of things with Sanderson's meandering thoughts and extremely unhealthy fixation on H.P. and/or taking over as Head Pixie someday
🗑️ 130 Reasons Why I'm Fairy Trash
The 130 Prompts project is a series of one-shots that explores my FOP character ideas and worldbuilding.
- "Excitement" (G - 7500 words) - The first piece written for my series 130 Reasons Why I'm Fairy Trash. It's about the Pixies traumatizing 10-year-old Gary and Betty at an amusement park so they'll cling to safety in the future. From here, you can read the 130 Prompts series in recommended order if you like.
If you're new to my worldbuilding, I recommend reading the prompts in the suggested order instead of chronological order. This way, you'll be given worldbuilding info in order instead of jumping to a piece where that info is assumed.
📅 Chronological Start - "First Things First"
A 10k-word piece (G-rated) about nature spirit OCs, featuring cameos of canon characters like Mother Nature, Father Time, and the Grim Reaper. This piece sets up lore for the Fairy zodiac, which plays a role in Frayed Knots especially.
- Each piece in the 130 Prompts series has Previous and Next links so you can either read in recommended order or you can follow the chronology from start to end. - Reading chronologically is not recommended unless you're already familiar with the worldbuilding - Full timeline chronology (Entire Cloudlands AU)
🗺️ Worldbuilding - So, You're Studying the Cloudlands...
A collection of worldbuilding and meta essays covering subjects like biology, culture, history, holidays, magic, maps, and a handbook on new godkid assignments.
You may also like my @riddledeep blog, where I first posted this meta. I'm currently moving things to the guide linked above. This way, the content is backed up and accessible to those who don't use Tumblr. Posts will remain on the blog.
📋 AU Notes & Warnings
Author writes villain encounters & villain backstories about complex non-human societies and does not inherently condone any viewpoints presented by characters or the societies they live in.
- This series focuses heavily on Pixies, Anti-Fairies, and cloudland or Fae culture. There is less focus on human godchildren or the main characters in the show (like Timmy, Cosmo and Wanda).
- This series is built so that many intricate storylines and worldbuilding elements weave together. There's no shame in skipping pieces you don't want to read, but you may miss plot or worldbuilding details important to the larger story. It can be intimidating to get into such a big project.
- This series does have fluff, but relies on drama. Content may be upsetting, and the order you read things may limit the chance for mental breaks.
- Lots of drama and complicated things going on. I recently changed the rating of my longfics to Not Rated & Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings due to the sheer variety of things, such as:
- Fantastic racism (Fairies, Anti-Fairies, Pixies, genies, and others disliking each other)
-> Show canon heavily implies these races have conflict. Jorgen faced no pushback for calling Norm a "filthy genie" on international TV. Jorgen and others refer to Pixies with rude terms such as "cone-headed freaks", etc.
- Social ladder/caste system (Cupid's ancestors organized fae in a list many generations ago to help Fairies find species with heat cycles that overlapped theirs, but the system has been corrupted into legal discrimination)
- Biologically assigned status (Male Fairies who eat a lot of jelly at a young age will develop into gynes: big, tough, freckled Fairies who fight with each other to defend their turf and drone companions. Think how H.P. and Big Daddy have unique body shapes compared to the other Fairies. They're gynes!)
- Some young bees are fed royal jelly so they develop into queens. The name for these "princesses" is gynes, so I yoinked that
- Most of the pixies are drones, apart from a few gynes. Vice President Longwood is due to succeed H.P. as Head Pixie someday, which Sanderson (a drone) absolutely despises.
- Fairies lick each other in greeting to spread pheromones, mirroring a hive of eusocial bees that gather near the queen to lick her
It's basically a non-sexual A/B/O dynamic, which was completely unintentional and I got a good laugh out of it when I realized what A/B/O was years ago. Convergent evolution...
- Mpreg - It's canon in the show that male Fairies give birth. I don't have anything to say about it; just that it's canon in my work too and treated with the same sincerity as everything else.
- Injury - Includes long-term injury, temporary injuries, and self-harm (Ex: Cutting your palm to stop using magic so you won't age). I don't consider this series bloody or gory. Fairies do have rainbow blood that's mentioned occasionally, but they're very elastic and heal quickly. The humans don't really have bloody moments.
- Character death - Most common when gynes fight to the death, but I've written other deaths as well, such as one where the Pixies caused a car crash on purpose because it benefited them.
-> Fairies are very resilient. Anti-Fairies regenerate if they're killed, as they can't die if their host counterpart (the Fairy) still lives. Death isn't overly common in my 'fics, but I'd feel weird warning for other things and not mentioning this one.
- Sexism (Anti-Fairy World tends to look down on women; Anti-Cosmo in particular tends to parrot the sexist beliefs he grew up with and gets annoyed at pushback)
-> Male bats often mate with many females (up to 30 sometimes). I built Anti-Fairy society around the idea that females outnumber males, but males see it as a sign that many women should be subservient to them because "it's nature." Anti-Cosmo is a product of his culture. Diversity loss! The villain has harmful views!
-> Anti-Fairies tend to be less racist and more sexist than Fairies while Fairies tend to be less sexist and more racist.
- Honey-lock - Anti-Fairies get flooded with hormones and magic 3 months after their counterparts mated. The pair are driven to locate each other, mate, and produce children in reflection of their counterparts.
-> what do you mean that's traumatizing? Dang, you guys live like this?
-> Anti-Cosmo's underlying goal in Frayed Knots is to beat the system so the next generation of Anti-Fairies will be born without the honey-lock's effects.
- Sociosexual Anti-Fairy culture - Anti-Fairies have a touch-based society themed around bonobos because I thought it would be interesting, particularly in a society where pregnancy is out of your control anyway (i.e. you can't accidentally get pregnant- It's in your counterparts' hands).
-> I do think "It feels good and we have few consequences, so why not?" is a reasonable direction for their culture
-> I'm not sure I would make that same choice years later, as it can be quite off-putting, but I'm glad I got to worldbuild with such unique building blocks. I enjoy it, but it's not for everyone.
- Infidelity (Anti-Cosmo cheats on his wife before Anti-Wanda and is implied to sometimes cheat on Anti-Wanda)
-> You're telling me the sexist sociosexual culture has infidelity and the evil villain fell into it? Bummer...
- Iris Virus - Having colored eyes in Anti-Fairy culture is played as an STD that's ceremonially passed to new individuals (because... sociosexual culture).
-> Also, what was I supposed to do with almost every Anti-Fairy having red eyes but Anti-Cosmo, Anti-Wanda, Foop, and the occasional background Anti-Fairy have other colors? Genetics? No way! 😃👍
-> RIP Anti-Cosmo. I'm sorry I find it hilarious that you cheat on all your partners and then sob like your trust's been shattered when your wife chooses to pass the virus on to secure allegiance with a valuable ally. Her body, her choice, dude.
- Child, physical, emotional, and sexual abuse (Frayed Knots in particular is not a hunky-dory story; Anti-Cosmo was often hit as a child. Some characters are cruel to Anti-Cosmo and he is cruel to others as well.
-> There are abuse themes in the Fairly OddParents 'fics?? The TV show about abused kids? what won't they think up next.
-> Cosmo's mother is doting in canon, so I portray Anti-Cosmo's mom as abusive to him.
-> Living in a sexist sociosexual culture sometimes leads to sexual abuse?? Also, belonging to a species that is magically forced to reproduce when your counterparts do even if you didn't consent is probably also sexual abuse? wild.
-> In Origin of the Pixies, H.P. was kidnapped by a will o' the wisp in his younger years and pressured into sex while she was producing milk for newborn Sanderson.
-> H.P. is emotionally distant and not the best at coping with what happened to him. He doesn't necessarily pursue help or get the best closure to this story. Don't hold the villains up as role models.
-> Foop has an alternate personality. This is canon; here's a compilation video I made of his appearances in the series (Note, this compilation includes Foop's Terrific Twos and some scenes where his alter is implied with eye highlights and a high voice to be there, but not confirmed). It's heavily implied he gained this personality due to being isolated in Abracatraz since the day he was born.
-> Cupid's family kills any children that aren't born triplets due to a sacred oath his ancestors took to uphold love all hours of the day. Tradition requires three children to split the magic by way of Morning, Afternoon, and Evening.
-> I would say it's also child abuse that Jorgen was raised with all the pressures of being Keeper of the Rules from the moment he was born, including being pressured to cut off his own wings in line with the tradition of "noble self-sacrifice."
- Young characters & implied offscreen sex - Are you seriously telling me the popular teens might've had sex when they were something like 150,000 years old and they'd been together since childhood? What on earth.
-> In Anti-Fairy society, you're recognized as a full adult at age 150,000.
-> In Fairy World, you're recognized as an adult when you moult your juvenile wings and grow your adult wings. This is generally between ages 140,000 and 180,000.
-> In Pixie World, you're recognized as a full adult at age 250,000. H.P. keeps age of majority high to encourage his pixies to establish themselves in Pixie World instead of leaving. These are non-human cultures that each have their own views.
-> Poof and Goldie have an arc about Goldie having Harm OCD over the fear that she'll fall into her will o' the wisp species stereotype and take advantage of Poof. Meanwhile, Poof has panic attacks because he's pretty sure she did, but blames himself for not being more self-aware. 😬
-> Foop gave his lover Anti-Marigold the iris virus when they were considered young adults in Anti-Fairy society (but still in school) to see if his dad would notice. Years later, he has a breakdown over the fact Anti-Cosmo never did, nor does he seem to care if his son is being reckless.
-> The sexual part of the Celebrity Kids arc is kept off-screen throughout the 130 Prompts. This arc is about the stress of being high schoolers treated like celebrities, ambassadors, royalty, and sports stars.
- Implied incest in H.P.'s family line before he was born (In the old days, it was common to marry cousins to preserve money. This custom has ended in modern times, but comes up on rare occasion)
-> It's implied this family history led to the genetic mutation that gave him wasp biology; that mutation plays a big role in his story.
-> H.P. talks about how he admires his counterpart, whom he considers a cousin. Sometimes other characters mock his admiration because of his infamous family history. It's not even important in his present-day life; it's just that my 'fics are full of jerks.
Some topics may make you uncomfortable. You don't have to read them, but that's part of fleshing out these very detailed, long-lived cultures and their messy underbellies. They're Fae. Were you expecting giddy fluff?
- Summaries for my multi-chapter FOP 'fics
- Summaries for 130 Prompts (with emoji guide)

You can create works based on this AU. Please cite me and/or the AU as appropriate (i.e. for things very specific to this AU). You are free to expand on ideas you've thought of thanks to my AU as a jumping off point. I'd love to reblog or link things to my AO3 works if I see them!
I write drama content with morally gray characters. Please don't portray my story events or worldbuilding out of context with intentional malice. In other words, I request you do not post things created for the specific intention of mocking me or the AU. It's not to everyone's tastes, but it's built with sincerity and it is loved <3

TEASER BELOW THE CUT (APPROX. 500 WORDS)
Tumblr media
“It’s a warm morning out,” your mother murmured, then quickly added, “hey you.” She knocked her hand against your arm.
“Hm?” You asked as you finished up Alice’s braid and tied it off with the blue Cinnamoroll hair tie she’d chosen. You patted her back with your hand. “You’re done.”
Your little sister hopped to her feet. “Thanks!” She dashed away and out of the room—to where, you had no clue. You figured she knew where the food was if she was hungry.
You angled your body to squish your side against the couch cushions and face your mother. “What were you saying?”
“Ah, I was going to talk to you about the Joshua Hong boy.”
Joshua Hong. You didn’t realize you could hear a man’s name so often within twelve hours.
You made a gesture with your hand. “What about the Joshua Hong boy, Mom?”
“Well, isn’t he a handsome one?” She asked you enthusiastically, straightening. It was alarming how bright her face just got. “I spoke to his mom while Kevin and I were walking just now, and he’s only a few years older than you, you know.”
You heard a metaphorical record scratch. What? There was so much in that one sentence that you needed to unpack. You raised your hands to signal her to pause. “Wait, since when do you and Kevin take walks together?” What could they have been talking about? You knew Kevin was an exceptional conversationalist, but never in your time at the lake had you known of this interaction.
Your mother blinked. “Oh, we started the tradition when you didn’t come up with us that one year.”
“Tradition?” So this happened more than once? You didn’t know why you were so scandalized by this information—it was just Kevin after all. You knew your parents, and even your siblings, were all fond of him—of course they were. You were arguably even more fond of him, but that wasn’t the point. You hoped she hadn't said anything about you and him as an item at any point in time… you trusted that Kevin could handle that though; that was what the pact was for, after all.
“Why are you making such a big deal out of this?” She arched a brow. “But anyway, yes, so we bumped into Josh’s mom on the last leg around the lake, and she mentioned that he’s majoring in chemistry and planning to go into medicine. You guys might have something in common."
You pursed your lips. Perhaps the two of you might have something to talk about, but your track was pre-veterinary rather than pre-med. There was probably a middle ground though... Maybe you were just being stubborn.
“Just make friends or something,” she said to you while standing up from the couch. “You need more of those.”
Your eyes shot wide open. “Hello? Mom?” Now that was simply uncalled for.
She chuckled impishly as she walked away and disappeared down the hall, leaving you to yourself. You were lucky neither of the twins were here to hear that burn.

Who speaks the most languages? Also who has the best French?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
well this just might be my most ambitious ask in a while :) shout out to the 1.5 francophones who may or may not follow this blog. And also for those 1.5 francos...
*cependant, selon le Lego, mon éditrice n'est même pas considérée québécoise haha >>;
more info below!
I already expect this piece to get less engagement because it's (mostly) not in English, and I'm afraid I'm still going to be more annoying and not provide a translation. As previously I will lean into making a statement Windex-style by purposefully not translating what I've written above into English just because the point of celebrating Franco-Albertan heritage month is, well, acknowledging the unique status of French in this country and how there is an expectation to conform to English in this province that needs a little challenging. I hope if nothing else, it strikes your curiosity enough to painstakingly type it into google translate so you can get half of the banter.
Another question that languished at the bottom of the box for over a year! This was because I felt I should make a real effort to write in French, of course, but also because I struggled with the wording of the question and ultimately didn't answer it. The "most" or the "best" are very loaded terms, so I avoided answering them entirely particularly because we have several languages that risk losing native speakers and because there's a lot of bs wrapped up in what "good" french is that I'm not skilled enough to unpack (though you can read what Windex wrote on this matter earlier on this blog... And here as well).
I have to strike a balance between representing the gang here as individuals (and immortals to boot) who have a lot of time on their hands and some interest and investment in learning languages on one hand... but also as representations of "average" people on the other. Francophone travellers aren't going to find many French speakers outside of airports, national parks, or government services in this province, but it still might surprise you considering all the "everyone outside of Quebec hates French" rhetoric that politicians like to fling around. It's more complicated than that, obviously, but I can mostly talk about my own personal experience with French here. I tried to represent both the reality that Franco-Alberta exists (represented by Ed) and the stereotypical resistance to French here (represented by Calvin, though clearly he understands enough to respond here. I also just think he tries to play dumb on purpose so that others underestimate him, it's all part of the image!)
Finally, I don't speak any of the languages (Michif, Tagalog, Punjabi, Cree) represented here so I hope they pass muster for the purpose of this little comic! ;~;b I have also represented Calvin speaking Mandarin previously on this blog!
oh yeah, and that "english and business" quote is from kevin o'leary who is from montreal so make of that what you will.

Eddie being rejected before he could reject his date. Buck making light of his death and Bobby's eyes almost popping out of his head they got so wide. MADDIE SINGING. Casual Kevin reminder. Ravi discussing some top tier trauma with chimney. Hen and Athena bestie-ism. Hen navigating letting Denny's biological father into their life. MADDIE AND CHIM SINGING TO JEE. Comphet Eddie Diaz. Some potentially devastating foreshadowing that I don't even have time to unpack. Chim showcasing the exceptional leadership skills we (Bobby) all knew he possessed. Hey! So I'm back with another Fifi (Kevin Fiala) request, I saw this prompt in a list around and I thought that it would be amazing if you could write him: "They had very different approaches to problem solving and it took some time to figure out how to accept that without getting into fights every time they disagreed on something.
Like they fight over a situation got mad at each other, maybe spend a few days like that, but when they start missing the other its time to make up, and the reconciliation it's just filled with love, passion and desire.
Thank you ! 😘❤️
- 🇧🇷
Alrighty love, my apologies for the delay! Christmas kept me quite occupied; Anyway, I hope you like this Fifi story 🤍 I aimed for a gentle and warm vibe, hoping it didn't contain too much angst or sadness 😅😉 as always, feel free to let me know what you think 🥰

We spent the late nights making things right between us I Kevin Fiala 🖋️
Tumblr media
"Hey, schätzi, I'm back home..." Kevin Fiala announced wearily as he trudged through the front door, holding a gym bag in one hand and a bag of take-out in the other.
"Perfect timing," you said with a smile, meeting him in the hallway while adjusting your earring. "Do you need about 5 minutes to freshen up before we go out? Put on a new shirt perhaps?"
Kevin looked at you, slightly confused.
"Go out? Where to?" he asked. "I've just returned home..."
"Yeah, well, we're meeting Linsey and John before the gallery event... Remember I mentioned it this morning before you went for training?" you tried to explain without sounding like you were nagging, as you had already informed your boyfriend about the plans, which he appeared to have forgotten.
"I'm not going anywhere tonight," the man in front of you sighed deeply, dropping his bag on the floor, kicking off his shoes, and heading to the dining room.
"What do you mean you're not going anywhere?" you questioned, with a slightly firmer tone.
"Babe, I've had a 12-hour day, with practice, meetings, and workouts... I'm not up for navigating a crowd at a gallery..."
You struggled to contain yourself as his words sank in, disappointment filling your body and mind.
"Kev, we've planned this for months... we can't just bail now."
"Just go without me?" he said casually, unpacking his dinner.
"But I don't want to go without you..." you tried to explain, your voice rising slightly as his overly casual attitude started to irritate you, as if he didn't care about your evening plans at all.
"Come on, what's the problem?" Kevin chuckled lightly, grabbing a plate as he prepared to enjoy his meal, not even considering your dinner plans. "This is clearly something you want to do, and I'm just too tired... so, just go..."
But you found nothing amusing about it.
You'd marked this event months ago on the calendar. You'd reminded him multiple times, before and after the road trip. Sure, today had been a long day for him with hockey, but that was his job, and you couldn't understand why he couldn't make this one effort for you.
"What's the problem?" you asked rhetorically, echoing his question. "My problem is that we had plans for tonight, together, and now you suddenly don't want to go because you're 'too tired'... you were aware of tonight, and all I'm asking is for you to put on a clean shirt and join me for a couple of hours for something I'd like to do. Can't you do that for me? Not just this once..."
Your tone had raised a little more as you felt stunned by his response to the situation. He was behaving so carelessly, and you simply couldn't handle it.
"It's just an event at the gallery..."
"Just an... yes, precisely, Kev! It's ONE event... ONE evening I'm asking you to do this for me... EVERY DAY is about YOU and hockey... And I always support you through it – I'm at games until late at night despite having to work the following day, or I always have a meal ready for when you get home!"
"I'm not asking you to do all that for me..."
Anger surged through your body as you explained your disappointment, feeling completely content in confronting him. But the audacity he had to question your loyalty and his justify his unwillingness to do something for you in return.
"Alright then... then maybe I will go without you," you huffed, slowly realising that he wasn't going to change his mind. "You enjoy your takeout... and by the way, no, I wasn't hungry. I already ate the dinner I made for us – leftovers are in the fridge, but thank you for asking," you spoke sharply, before heading back to the hallway. There, you finished getting dressed, put on your heels and coat, slammed the door firmly enough for Kevin to notice, and made your way to your car.
**
This wasn't the first time such a situation had happened. Since moving in with Kevin a little under a year ago, it had happened a couple of times before. He'd return home late, or later than expected, forgetting plans you had, leading to an argument.
The first time, he had relented and joined you for the evening you'd planned.
The second time, you had to cancel on your girlfriends last minute. It was just before a road trip, and Kevin had expected you to stick around since he wanted to spend time with you.
And in both cases, the tension had eventually dissipated as you relaxed in each other's company, knowing your love for each other surpassed everything.
But this time, it felt different.
You had been eagerly looking forward to this event, and so had Linsey and John, two of your closest friends, and you were all set to meet up and attend tonight's gallery event. Naturally, you had expected your boyfriend to join since it meant a lot to you. Yet, as had happened multiple times before, he was simply tired after a long day at the rink. Seemingly, he was too exhausted to spend even a few hours with you.
Disappointment surged through you as you navigated the streets towards your destination, struggling to hold back the tears slowly welling up.
However, you refused to let it ruin your night. Despite understanding how important Kevin's career was to him (and to an extent, to you), you couldn't grasp why he wouldn't make an exception this time. But dressed in your best dark green pantsuit, a piece you bought specifically for the occasion, empowering you to feel like a true boss lady ready to conquer the world, you confidently stepped out of the vehicle, flaunting your new heels, and greeted your friends.
And although the evening unfolded magnificently, there lingered a thought about your man back at home. And you couldn’t help but wonder if he, too, was thinking of you. Yet, quickly brushing off these thoughts, and you refocused on the engaging conversations with your friends.
But amidst the laughter and enjoyable chats, your occasional moments of distraction didn't escape the notice of your best friend. And eventually, you caved in and confided in her about the fight with Kevin.
"He's probably just stressed about the season..." John offered reassurance with a warm, friendly smile.
"Yeah, like last week's 3-2 loss in overtime... that's a tough one to swallow," Linsey added sweetly. You knew both your friends were just trying their best to uplift your spirits, even if they couldn't entirely grasp the challenges of being an NHL girlfriend.
"Thanks, guys, but I'm afraid it's more than just that," you sighed deeply, feeling slightly overwhelmed by different emotions. "I feel like I support him through everything... but he NEVER even tries to find the time and energy to do something for me..."
And as if the gates were sudden completely open, you continued expressing the difficulties of dating a professional hockey player, trying to align your social life with his career. As you heard your own words echoing, eventually running out of breath, you stopped talking, releasing a deep exhale.
"Perhaps, babe," Linsey's gentle voice interjected again, "it sounds like you could really use a break... not just when he's away on a road trip, but in your own space, where you can gather your thoughts."
Her words resonated, 'your own space,' a place free from thoughts of Kevin or hockey, where you could truly unwind and relax, away from your shared house.
It didn't actually sound like a bad idea.
And you knew just where to go.
Then offering a nod in agreement and a soft smile, you decided to continue with the night's event and not dwell on thoughts of your boyfriend and his career.
Meanwhile, back at home, Kevin was feeling awful. Well, not entirely awful, as he was genuinely just tired and happy that he’d chosen to have stayed in the comfort of his sofa and home.
But the intensity of your fight still lingered in his mind though. Your expressions of disappointment and anger weighed heavily on him, and he felt terrible about how things were left between you.
Despite the fact, that it was a familiar pattern in your fights.
You would get visibly agitated and annoyed, while he would adopt a low-key, casual, occasionally passive-aggressive stance. It seemed as if all his anger and energy were expended on the ice, leaving him with nothing to give during disagreements with you. He simply often ended up wanting to let things go, which would sometimes infuriate you even further.
At times, you wished he would just match your level of frustration, show his true emotions, and argue back. But instead, he would often brush it off and act nonchalant, which didn't resolve any issues but simply swept them under the rug.
And as the evening wore on, Kevin's feelings of sadness gradually dissipated, and exhaustion took over, causing him to doze off while watching reruns on the television.
**
Morning arrived, and Kevin slowly woke up still on the sofa.
The TV had been turned off, probably by you as you’d come home, but his initial thought wasn't about that. He wondered why you hadn't woken him up to say goodnight.
And even worse still, when he then glanced at the coffee table, where he saw a small post-it note signed by you.
"Morning love, hope you slept alright ❤️ I've gone over to my old apartment, just to have some time to myself and finish up some work - didn't want to wake you as I know you need the rest. Love you, y/n/n"
Reading your note, Kevin felt a pang of disappointment and sadness. However, it was sweet, and you had used your nickname, which indicated that perhaps you weren't entirely mad. But he couldn't understand why you’d suddenly left without waking him, nor saying anything in person. You had just returned home, slept, left a note, and departed from your shared house.
And he knew you well enough that when you needed space, it was better to respect that.
So, he merely let out a deep sigh, got up, and prepared for the day, filled with training, media coverage, and another round of workouts in the evening.
But, to his surprise, you didn't text him all day, which, even after a fight, was highly unusual. And by his second workout, Kevin grew concerned and felt the urge to call you.
"Hey, you," you greeted him over the phone. Your voice lacked excitement, yet he didn't sense traces of annoyance either.
"Hey, schätzi, I just wanted to check in with you," he spoke with genuine curiosity and concern.
"Kev, I'm all good, I just need some time for myself... just for a day or two," you softly explained, still feeling the sting from your recent argument.
"Oh okay... but we're okay, right?"
"Yes, babe, we're just fine."
At first, he didn’t entirely believe you, but decided to let the matter go, and ending the call after exchanging 'love you's.
And as the day progressed, Kevin did his best to trust your need for space. However, he could also feel himself gradually feel a growing need to see you again, particularly on the following day, when you planned to spend more time alone working on your project and didn't attend the home game where the Kings faced off against the Islanders.
Feeling a sting of heartache, Kevin began to fear that your relationship might be closer to its breaking point due to your recent fight. Your valid point about him not investing the same level of time and energy into things that mattered to you, despite your unwavering support for him, weighed heavily on his mind. Yet, he tried to maintain composure, convincing himself that all you needed was a bit of time.
Meanwhile, as you watched the game from your old sofa across town, feelings of longing filled your body and mind each time Kevin's name was mentioned and number 22 flashed on the screen. Despite relishing the wonderful solitude you'd found, being able to wholly concentrate on your work and personal needs in your sublet place that sat empty at the time, you began to miss your boyfriend more than anything.
And as you reflected on the intensity of your recent argument, you acknowledged your justified frustration but also had to admit it might had been somewhat exaggerated.
You loved Kevin deeply, and that had been evident since the day he had so boldly asked you out on a date without much knowledge about you. His humble confidence had intrigued you, and soon, you found yourself immersed in the world of hockey players and their significant others almost every night.
So, as the match concluded with a satisfying 2-1 win for the Kings, you decided it was time to head home and await your boyfriend's return.
And spotting your car in the driveway as Kevin pulled up filled him with a sense of happiness. However, upon closing the front door behind him and entering the hallway, he was met with an eerie silence and darkness.
Had you come back home and left again? he wondered.
Perhaps you’d changed your mind and went to a friend's place instead?
Once again, the fear of the potential breaking point of your relationship crept into his mind.
But then suddenly, he heard noises coming from upstairs, seemingly from your bedroom. And carefully placing his bag by the door, Kevin removed his coat and shoes before walking slowly up the staircase.
A faint glimmer of light caught his attention, emanating from your bedroom. And feeling a surge of relief, he knew it had to be you, so he proceeded down the hallway with cautious steps and entered, noticing the light filtering from the en suite bathroom.
Approaching the doorway, Kevin stood still, observing you standing over the sink, your head slightly bowed, dressed in a satin robe. He then caught a faint sniffle before your eyes met in the mirror, revealing a trace of redness, indicating that you had shed some tears earlier.
And as you both paused, locking eyes, a surge of warmth and relief enveloped you. Seeing Kevin again definitely had you now more convinced than ever that you had missed him deeply and never wanted to be apart from him, if it wasn’t necessary.
So, releasing another deep breath, you turned around and slowly walked towards the Swiss player, who instinctively enveloped you in his large frame, wrapping his arms around you, and drew you close.
In that embrace, all the tension suddenly seemed to dissolve, leaving only unspoken love between you, as words felt unnecessary.
Then, as you gazed up at him, you delicately lifted your hands to encircle his neck, gently pulling him down for a soft kiss. Kevin quickly reciprocated, as he was also yearning for your touch more than anything.
The days without you, despite being in the same city, had been agonising for him, as he had feared that it might had been the end of your relationship. However, as you both stood in the bathroom doorway, sharing a heartfelt kiss, those fears vanished entirely.
As the kiss deepened, Kevin's hands gently cradled the back of your head, his fingers entwined in your hair, while his tongue delicately explored past your lips, engaging in a tender exchange with yours. You couldn’t help but lean into it as well, surrendering to the lustfulness of the kiss you had initiated.
Then as you gradually pulled back, both of you needed a moment to catch your breath. And while locking eyes once more, Kevin whispered softly, "Please don't leave me," his face and body exuding humble gratitude, almost welling up with emotion.
"Never, Schätzi," you reassured him, gently shaking your head. "Kev, I know sometimes I say things that might sound like I don't want this life with you, but I do, I really do."
A tear trickled down your cheek, mirroring the sadness in Kevin's eyes.
"I understand. I'm just... I'm constantly afraid," he confessed, the vulnerability evident in his voice. "I know I need to pay more attention to what you like and make time for that too..."
"Hey, I think we both need to work on it, babe," you added, attempting a timid smile. "I need to stop overreacting, and we should try and communicate better. I knew what I signed up for when we started dating, but it means we need to be better at discussing things and planning together."
"Yeah, you're probably right," Kevin sighed deeply.
You knew you had your differences in approaching situations, but you also knew that you were in a good relationship, which also meant that meeting each other halfway was key.
"Join me in a bath, baby," you then softly suggested, and Kevin couldn’t help but softly smile and nodded as he gently removed the robe from your slender frame.
And as you then both settled in the warm water, with you leaning against his broad chest, gently caressing each other's hands, you discussed the little improvements and changes you could think of you both could make. You respected each other's boundaries but also recognised the need to occasionally push those lines just a little.
It was a good conversation that lifted a weight from both your hearts. And then snuggled into bed, smiles adorned your faces as you drifted off into a much-needed deep sleep, feeling lighter and more at peace.

Kevin: I don't think this is a good idea...
BB: When do I have a good idea?
Kevin: ...
Kevin: At least in that you don't disappoint.
Ivy and Daniel scream in the background while BB looks dumbfounded.
BB: I got out witted again.
BB: Say Four eyes whatcha thinking about Robyn?
Kevin: What do you mean? She is my best friend!
BB: Are you sure that's all?
Kevin: Uh...yeah?
BB: What if I say that she likes you?
Kevin: Yeah I know that.
BB surprised: You do?!?
Kevin: Why else would she be my friend if she hated me?
Daniel: Just give up BB.
BB: Never.
Kevin: How could I improve my dueling skills?
Ivy: Practice more!
Daniel: Learn new spells!
Robyn: Be more confident!
Lottie looks at BB.
Lottie: What do you advise? You are the fastest spell caster after all.
BB grimacing: Look you have skills. But man you are a chicken. I advise jumping out the window 5 times then move to wandering in the Forbidden Forest for a week then spit on Cassandra's shoes and avoid her thunderbolts and then finally piss off some dark wizards. Trust me if you do all this dueling will seem like ancient texts do to Hermione Granger.
Everyone: ...
Daniel: I know you enough to know that you actually did all of this.
BB: I did worse actually.
Kevin: Can I get more advice except from BB?
Kevin running from the Frey twins.
Kevin: BB! I'm so happy to see you.
BB: You want something.
Kevin: How did you know?
BB: No one is happy to see me unless they need something.
Kevin: As much as I would like to unpack that could you fend off the twins? But I would be fine with climbing into your bag.
BB sees the twins approaching.
BB shouting loudly in the courtyard: What?!? The Frey twins are in love with Cassandra?
Colby: What? No that's not-
BB still loudly: What did you say? You worship her?
Fischer: No, stop we don't-
BB: You wear her skirts when she is not around?
The twins start to chase BB around while trying to hit him with various curses.

FINAL THOUGHTS ON MIDNIGHT IN THE GARDEN OF GOOD AND EVIL! UNPACKING ALL OF THAT!
Tumblr media
this guy, his girlfriend, and their third, the most stunning woman you ever saw who brought the picnic basket
So I was saying as I was watching that this is an odd duck for several reasons, the main gist of it being that it's at once kind of blander than I have a feeling the book is (or indeed the real events were), but also stunningly weird to watch in 2024:
kevin spacey as a rich dude who shoots a young, vulnerable (but also extremely volatile) hustler under somewhat mysterious circumstances, given we don't actually know too much about their relationship beyond the facts given to us by this rich guy and a couple of brief snapshots of the final night -- and he gets away with it (and then he immediately has a heart attack and it's suggested it was the ghost of the young man getting his revenge... alas not all meta is reflected 100% in reality....)
a movie that features a trans woman, who's playing a version of herself, because she was at the original events, but she's also just giving the best performance in the movie + it lowkey ends on the three of them kinda bein a thing (that is, a romantic couple and she is also there and she's the one who brought the picnic basket!) -- which like. you barely see anywhere and certainly wouldn't expect to see in a movie directed by clint eastwood
this not 2024-specific in its interest, but its general depiction of a community which is clearly so interesting in its contained ways, allowing a myriad of people to simply be, whether it be a trans woman or a suggested wider queer community (although for sure that acceptance is Conditional and not held by all), or a guy who ties live horseshoe flies to himself with string, or a guy who walks an invisible dog, or its respected practice of voodoo (i cannot speak to how well this film depicts voodoo, only that it does and as a part-time american gothic, also highly suggests the ghosts are alive and amongst us)
on the flipside of this we've got:
feels like almost all the leads are fully phoning it in. john cusack is truly the fish out of water in that he just doesn't belong here, nor is it clear why he's so interesting to anyone (why do y'all wanna have sex with this man???) -- and he's in practically every scene, yagotta... yagotta have someone you want to follow for two and a half hours here......
the pacing is meeessy, in that "oh yeah this was based on a book and didn't know what to keep and what to leave out and generally how it would work onscreen" kind of way, which ultimately does very few characters a service (except, again, for The Lady, for she pops up, has a great time, and then we wait around for her to pop up again). it does make me want to read the book!
it also just. should have revelled more I think. this is partially casting, partially scripting, but also I think cinematography and directing, it's so at arms length most of the time, like it doesn't really know how to present this community or the gothic parts of the story, so it ends up being a bit hammy and a bit point-at-the-weirdness and go "well that's weird." AGAIN the exception truly is Chablis, she's the realest character in the story, and AGAIN I'd hazard it's because of the fantastic decision to have her in the film playing herself, all the camera needs to do is point and shoot, she's got the rest on lock! the car conversation! the emceeing! the dancing! the courtroom Ensemble! the showing up with a picnic basket! but yeah, the rest of the film seemed a bit... the word that's coming up for me is timid. a bit dull. a bit lacking in guts
ultimately really happy I finally watched this one, I wonder if it would be possible to do a tight edit that cuts off roughly 30-45mins (keep all the Lady Chablis parts, naturally), but I do think it wanted also to just be more open and possibly also to make some more concise decisions on how it wanted to present this story, because I get the feeling the screenplay didn't know how to engage with the original book + it's got some serious 90s "This Is A Movie" elements to it
there's a part of me that thinks this one is actually worthy of a remake (Angelica Ross anyone???) but also what would that be without at least a cameo from The Lady herself? maybe we just need more American Gothic Crime Dramas with trans women doing cool shit in them. the answer is always more!
some highlights beyond The Lady Chablis
the garden itself -- the graveyard that is -- was quite eerie, especially in the opening and closing scenes
the opening and closing generally I was very into, that vibe wasn't sustained so much by the rest of the movie unfortunately
I liked the scene where the rich guy dies, it was a really cool Moment, especially the way jude law smiles -- he got what's coming to him
I did like parts of the courtroom drama part of it, I think that part was relatively well-paced
I liked the woman in the graveyard, who also bookended the whole thing. I liked the minor characters generally
good times! that time clint eastwood gave us the opportunity for one of the most sympathetically and interestingly portrayed trans women in a mainstream movie i guess???

Let's unpack the last interview with the executive producer of Loki. He said it was never their intention to portray some romance between Mobius and Loki and I want to believe them... really. But I remember Eric Martin, the head writer, was very aware of the ship even before the second season was made. Then, he made a weird comparison between lokius and spirk, the mother of all the ships. So, there's no way Martin didn't know people ship Spock and Kirk in a romantic way.
But what is more funny to me is that they also say that Loki and silvye were a thing in this season... Because I don't see it. Sorry. Like , yeah maybe Loki loves her, but we never saw that Sylvie reciprocated his feelings. Like, this fucking writers aren't good at romance. I have to laugh. Even casual viewers noted that they toned down their romance. Then they were good at writing a "platonic" relationship.
And I thought this was because they're men. Like, they don't know how to write a romance (at least consciously). What a woman search in romance (sorry but even if there wasn't incest in the middle of this ship, Sylky still is the most boring ship of all the time). And above that, this season Sylvie was in the background. Like, they didn't know what to do with her. I even though maybe people above them told them to not put much of her on the screen. Like, I remember people hated the first season because it was more about her than the main character, Loki. But people loved Mobius and Loki together (and let's not forget that Kevin Feige told Eric to put Loki and Mobius in the episode 3 when the episode was leaning too much into ravvona and Victor timely).
I think they're good in "platonic" relationships because men only love men. And only want women for sex. Maybe I'm overreacting. But that's why they don't see it. They wrote a love story between Mobius and Loki, but because Mobius is a man, they can't see it.
And finally, I don't care if they aren't canon because guess what... Lokius is still the most popular ship of Loki, here on Tumblr and also in TikTok. That will haunt them forever. 🤭
And when the executive producer mentioned Loki's bisexuality I had to laugh. They don't want to piss the LGBT fans of Loki. Suddenly he remembers Loki's sexual orientation. And of course they didn't do anything with that because they don't care. They're just cishet men. 😮‍💨
Sorry, this is all over the place. And yes English is not my first language so...

kevin and allison are both very blunt, confident characters who are prone to dramatics, concerned with their image, and disinterested in “playing nice” for lack of a better term. and they both act this way as a result of a childhood in the spotlight. there are some differences between them, obviously, but they’re right next to each other on the “asshole spectrum.” overlapping each other even.
the point of my ask was for you to elaborate on which traits make allison and kevin so dramatically different to you, and i felt the need to ask about it because i think a lot of fans struggle with perceiving certain behaviors differently when displayed by a male character vs a female character due to their own unconscious biases. like i said, unconscious. i don’t think you’re some kind of raging misogynist because of an aftg take i just think those biases might be where your take comes from 😭 Which is normal! We all have some unconscious beliefs to unlearn. I’m sorry if my ask came off as aggressive. and depending on how you make the distinction between kevin and allison, your take might not be based in misogyny at all! Which is why i sent the ask. to give you a chance to explain that
my point i guess is that if Katelyn acted “like kevin,” she would be perceived the same way allison is. because she is a popular, attractive young woman and that’s the main difference between how kevin and allison’s personalities are perceived.
My post wasn't about dissecting the differences between Kevin and Allison, though. And tbh I don't feel like spending an intensive amount of time going in depth because I think it's a boring topic to write about.
I think you should create your own post though!! Honestly, you have a lot of good points about their upbringing and I'd read it if you tagged me. Plus, I got another ask telling me, "that anon ate you tf up." 🤣 so I think you'd do well.
Anyway, it wasn't that deep from my perspective. I just wanted to get headcanons about Katelyn as her own character, without being compared to the only other mean girl in the series. Not to get asks requesting me to unpack my misogyny or lack thereof. ur cool tho

Chapter 5:
Trying something new! I screenshotted quotes this time & we'll have some typed quotes to spice things up.
Now, welcome to what I’ve dubbed; Neil gain’s a big brother and Andrew wants to fuck him so bad he looks stupid
Tumblr media
I know Neil isn’t TRYING to be funny, he’s a comedian.
As much as Neil hated coming across as a pushover, he didn't have a choice. He couldn't let Kevin or Andrew see the real him.
^^ he says, as if Andrew doesn't walk him him like a dog.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This physical exam is my roman empire. More in the end notes.
Matt shrugged and looked around. "Where are the monsters?" "Probably razing Fox Tower to the ground as we speak. You met Neil?"
I just know Matt is using this as an endearment. I KNOW it. In my BONES. that's a Monsters (affectionate) (I am delusional and clinging to the found-family coding like my life depends on it)
Tumblr media
I'm going to pre-emptively say Matt is an eldest son in whatever home environment he comes from. I don't know his backstory or if we ever even learn it, but I'll elaborate on this in the end notes as well.
"They're interesting." Neil said "Interesting." Matt repeated. "That's the tamest description of them I've ever heard."
I need more of these two. Desperately.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's a lot to unpack here. Which I will do in the end notes.
Tumblr media
I will think about the sentence eternally. All the time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I dunno who looks more gay in this whole situation. Andrew, who was so desperate for info on Neil he dug through his bag, or Neil. Also coming back to that leash bit in chapter six.
Tumblr media
Matt said "I've spoken to this man ten minutes but he is my BABY BROTHER and if you TOUCH HIM I will END YOU especially if you are ALSO MY BABY BROTHER. " love you Matt this is such oldest brother behaviour (guy with two older brothers)
notes:
Abby and Neil. There's this palpable distance between Abby & Neil, a physical barrier that Neil's put up that he hasn't done with Wymack. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that Neil had a maternal figure, even if she was a bad one. He's not lacking a mother. He thinks about his mom near constantly, she's this constant dull mantra in the back of his head. Therefore, if he doesn't put a lot of distance between him and Abby, he risks overriding that very important, very essential love he had for his mom, and I don't think he's quite ready to unpack his relationship with his mom. It's also clear Abby wants to take care of Neil, as much as she does all of the Foxes. Wymack & Abby, whether they willing took on the role or have just stumbled into this, view the Foxes as their kids. Dysfunctional, delinquent kids. But kids.
I have already gone on multiple essays on Andrew AND Kevin, so I won't this chapter.
Let's discuss; Matt.
Matt is kind of this defacto co-captain next to Dan. He helps keeps things in line, and not that people necessarily respect or listen to him, they do trust him. I mean, Matt had Kev in a chokehold and Andrew didn't even swing on him and that speaks a lot to the role he holds amongst the Foxes. Despite Kevin's demanding nature and everyone's apparent wariness of Andrew, Matt is the alpha. He's not in your face, people don't notice him, but he is holding this ship together in a way. It also says a lot about his character that he took Neil under his wing in record time. One look at him and he was quite literally throwing hands in his defense. This guy deffo has at least A younger brother, if not multiple. If he doesn't have a backstory I'm inventing him one as we speak. Deadass.
Neil's code in the way he folds his clothes takes us deeper into his own paranoia ad hyper-vigilance. Yes, it aided him in this scenario with Andrew searching his things, but it also doesn't help, as we saw earlier in this chapter when he wouldn't leave his bag in the dorm without a lock and key long enough to help Matt bring his furniture up AND when he had to hype himself up to go to the store without it. I completely understand WHY Neil is the way that he is, but I need him to get. help. Jesus Christ. Mandate this child some therapy or so help me god.
Lark Liveblogs Literature Part ???: All For The Game Series - Nora Sakavic
I'm doing something a little bit different with this one! In the business of full disclosure, I read TFC (and about a chapter of TRK) in April this year, decided "I can't mcfucking do this" and then gave up. And then didn't stop thinking about Neil Josten for the next eight months and now we're BACK. So, instead of properly 'liveblogging,' unlike most first-reads I do, I'm actually annotating this one because it's too good to NOT.
That means I have a customized (so totally legal mhm) word doc, highlight/unline privileges, and audacity.
Here's what I knew before I read back in April (stolen from my beta version of this post);
Andrew Minyard: Gay(?), funniest bitch alive if Tumblr brackets are to be trusted. Murderer? Has Boyfriend???
Sports. Maybe. Yes? sports.
Drugs are involved. Somehow.
Now, here's where I am going in now;
Ranking the Foxes goes; Neil, Aaron, Dan, Kevin, Andrew, Renee, Matt, Nicky
I have no idea how exy works, I do don't plan on figuring it out.
Do not remember if I read TRK but what I remember happening is far too much to be just the 230 page doc that is TFC so I MUST HAVE right?
Do know his real name's Nathaniel because I did read that scene reveal and get JUMPSCARED by my brother's name.
How this is going to work is that I'm going to put in my annotations for each chapter. Enjoy!
Chapter 1:
"You can't be serious." "Very serious, and very out of time,"
"were a team of talented rejects and junkies because Wymack only recruited athletes from broken homes...nice in theory, but it meant his players were fractured isolationists who couldn't get along long enough to get through a game."
"God damn it, Minyard. This is why we can't have nice things."[1] "Oh, Coach," someone said over Neil's head. "If he was nice, he wouldn't be any use to us, would he?" "He's no use to us if you break him." "You'd rather I let him go? Put a band-aid on him and he'll be good as new."[2]
[1] This is why we can’t have nice things, darling. Because you break them. I have to take them away
[2] Andrew I’ll kiss you
"blond and five feet even"[1]
blond? wrong. five foot even? correct.
"They were champions, and Neil was a jumble of lies and dead-ends."[1]
[1] Neil your self-loathing is showing
"It's not a good idea." "Your opinion has been duly noted and dismissed,"
"It was proof he existed, same as this game they both played. Kevin was proof Neil was real."
"It's about second chances, Neil. Second, third, fourth, whatever, as long as you get at least one more than what anyone else wanted to give you." Neil had heard Wymack referred to as an idealistic idiot by more than one person, but it was hard to listen to him and not believe that he was sincere
"It sounded like a dream; it tasted like damnation"
notes:
nothing much to say on chapter one--- it's a standard introductory chapter to a contemporary(ish) novel.
Wymack sets up the series' key theme with his line, "It's about second chances, Neil. Second, third, fourth, whatever, as long as you get at least one more than what anyone else wanted to give you."
Kevin's demeanor in this chapter is very similar to the Kevin we see up until Raven's come into play--- He's very good at acting very standoffish and tough.
The shift in Kevin when Riko comes into play was actually so dramatic I didn't recognize him here, I was afeared
some of the quotes I've added here are obviously because I thought they were funny exchanges--- others are me English Majoring(tm), and others are just me marking plot, characterization, facts, etc.
admittedly what i've put here is about half of what is actually highlighted/underlined in my doc.
I want to study the dynamic between Neil & Wymack under a microscpe

🌃 City Lights AU 🌃
Fairly OddParents: A New Wish
An FOP series with a focus on exploring characters, relationships, and Dimmadelphia as a setting. Draws largely from "A New Wish" canon, but not beholden to it.
#ridwork guides
Tumblr media
What Is City Lights AU?
An FOP: A New Wish-inspired series centered around character relationships... Namely, friendships, adventures, and traumas regarding the humans in A New Wish (alongside studies of Cosmo, Wanda, and Peri as they adapt to life in Dimmadelphia). Magical lore and Fairy culture exist in the background, but are not the focus.
🌃 City Lights AU follows an internal canon. While not necessarily compliant with A New Wish, all pieces within it are compliant with each other. They may build on each other to create larger storylines. You may also like Off the Rails: my AO3 series for misc. FOP AUs (Ex: Random one-shots based on A New Wish that don't comply with City Lights).
AO3 Series: City Lights AU
Blog tag - #City Lights AU
Tone
Mostly Angst, Drama, Romance, and Fluff.
Think "We talk about Dale's trauma, Dev's sadness, and Peri's stress, but we also see Cosmo and Wanda or Hazel's parents flirting while Hazel has a great time with her friends."
Pretty up and down, back and forth, like the show itself.
Characters
Heavy focus on the A New Wish cast. Limited appearances by OG series characters. The ones most likely to return in this AU are folks like Goldie Goldenglow and Sammy Sweetsparkle (Classmates of Poof and Foop in the OG series).
- Peri goes by Poof in backstory 'fics since Cosmo and Wanda seem to hear his new name for the first time in "Battle of the Dimmsonian." (Same deal for Foop-Irep). - Foop's alt personality may be mentioned by the name of Hiccup, as that's his name in Cloudlands AU.
Potential appearances from my existing OCs like Anti-Marigold (Goldie's counterpart), Finley (Pixie kid attending Spellementary alongside Poof and Foop), or Anti-Coriander (Foop's betrothed in Cloudlands AU), but maybe not! We'll find out together.
Most notable OC for this AU is definitely going to be Ed Leadly's daughter, Hadley, whom I set up with Dale back in 2018 (Cloudlands AU) and I think it's really funny to keep that canon in City Lights.
If Anti-Cosmo and Anti-Wanda appear in this AU, they'll be referred to with those names since that's how their voice actors are credited at the end of "The Battle of Big Wand."
Timmy, Chloe, Kevin, Molly, Tammy, and Tommy will likely appear, but I don't expect them to be a focus. Time will tell.
Ships
This AU is not specifically Devzel-oriented, but not in an anti-Devzel way... More like "We don't have time to unpack whether or not they'd work together" / "What do you mean- SWEET GOODNESS!!"
I'm not opposed to Devzel, but there's a very specific story beat I feel is a dealbreaker for both of them. We'll find out together! Leave comments as I post works in this series and share whether you think they can work it out :)
Cosmo/Wanda - Retired, mostly chilling, very much love their son and definitely very good at being human.
Dale/OC - Hadley Harrington comes out swingin'! (Cherry lemon ship tag, my beloved...)
Peri/Goldie Goldenglow dating drama that's remarkably less traumatizing than it is in Cloudlands AU, but not necessarily... great. Mostly Peri groveling for her to take him back because I think it's funny if the kid who had everyone fawn over him during school because he was popular ends up struggling with relationships he has to put effort in <3
Mark/Vicky because I love them and I am not taking criticism at this time. You can pry them from my cold, dead hands.
"Are you going to bring their child OCs over to this AU?" - I... don't know. I think it would be hilarious. So, probably! In Cloudlands AU, she joins Mark on Yugopotamia as queen, but I'm equally fascinated by the possibility that Mark left his royal life to stay on Earth, which I think is 100% in line with his character. I'm into it. Let's do it.
Jorgen/Tooth Fairy - I have kid OCs for them that are very far-future in Cloudlands AU, but due to the way Fae age in City Lights, I think I'll bring them in and let them be baby... Italy and Fang, my beloveds...
Angela/Marcus because I think they're cute :) Probably nothing super focused on them, but they sure do exist.
I'm sticking with my Cloudlands AU ships of Timmy/Molly & Chloe/Kevin; they presumably live in Dimmsdale. Kevin and Molly are step-siblings in this AU too.
Leaning towards Irep/Sammy Sweetsparkle dating life fluff/drama because I want to :) Not sure if that's present-day or in their past. That said, we also might not go that route. We'll see!
Honorable mention to Dev and his many squishes. I don't think he knows what's going on either, but I support him.
Setting
Largely takes place in Dimmadelphia with references to Dale, Cosmo, Wanda, Vicky, Crocker, A.J., and others having Dimmsdale history. Some 'fics take place in Dimmsdale.
Fairy World, Anti-Fairy World, and Pixie World may make appearances, and so could alien planets. However, this AU centers around humans and is mostly grounded in Dimmadelphia... hence the title City Lights!
This series will follow a specific AU timeline, meaning birthdates will be picked for some characters. They might be contradicted in future seasons, but this is an AU, so that's fine.
Is It For Me?
- Pieces can range from G to E (Childhood silliness vs. trauma vs. Dale having a very hard time working up the courage to father a kid).
More info in the AU Notes and Warnings section under the cut.
- Heavy focus on Dale recovery, Cosmo and Wanda settling into Dimmadelphia, Hazel adjusting to moving (and occasionally reflecting on her past), Dev's upbringing, and Hazel's interactions with her godparents and friends.
- If you like 'fics that feel like grounded-in-reality character studies and lean into trauma, you might like this series!
- Limited exploration of magic and Fairy World. For now, this AU uses the same magic system and Fae culture vibes I've already made for Cloudlands AU - Click the Keep Reading for details - but I don't plan to delve into it. It just exists as a backdrop.
Major Themes
- Trauma!! How it haunts you... Letting go... Oooouggggh.
- Relationships! Growth, strain, ups and downs, self-care, break-ups, meltdowns, humility, forgiveness, toxic co-dependent friendships that haunt you long-term... The usual.
- Emphasis on friendship, family, adventures, and kindness... and the unbearable lightness of being a child in Fairly OddParents media.
Nobody has ever been okay in this show or any time after I've gotten my hands on them, but it's fine; that's just how it is, sdklfj...
Plot Highlights
- Dale and Vicky were friends when they were kids... Little by little, their dynamic starts to shift.
- Dale and his betrothed work through courtship and married life... also, Dale works through trauma. Newborn Dev is here too.
- Cosmo begins training to take over as Keeper of Da Rules after Jorgen. Long road ahead, but whatcha gonna do?
- With Cosmo's new position hanging over their heads, Cosmo and Wanda retire from godparenting. They enjoy a 10k-year vacation and settle in Dimmadelphia... disguised as humans and struggling to pass. I hope they pay rent.
- Peri vs. his strained relationship with Goldie Goldenglow.
- Hazel's early explorations of Dimmadelphia and friend-making.
- An exploration of the Peri-Dev dynamic during the 4.5 months between "Lost and Founder's Day" & "Operation: Birthday Takeback."
- Whatever Mark and Vicky are up to. Probably being their flirty, violent selves... Mark adapting mostly well to human life except for when he isn't. Actually, the same could be said of Vicky.
- Background Timmy/Molly and Chloe/Kevin married lives. Shout-out to Timmy/Molly still together because I love them and refuse to divorce them in more than one AU sldkfj.
- Probably not a lot of Hazel content at first, but I'll plan more for her when we find out if we're getting a Season 2. Leaving myself wiggle room for now.
Ongoing?
This AU guide was posted in September 2024 and this AU is very new. Works will be posted over time.
No update schedule- Just wherever the vibes take us~ But my plan is to post the story beats in the Dimmadome arc first (in the "50 Words" style) and then we'll circle back to "present day." In other words, we're gonna hit the ground running, fly through the timeline until Dev's an adult, then loop back for more detailed 'fics and fluffier childhood days :) You'll find out where we're going and then we'll work through how we got there! I post FOP 'fics on Fridays (if I have something to post; any AU)

Dead dove warnings, so prepare yourself mentally. I am once again exploring child trauma in 'fics for the show about child trauma and bad decisions.
👀 Take a Peek
New here? You might like to start with these:
- "You Deserve It" - Dale - freshly escaped from Vicky - attends a fancy dinner party with his dad... and reunites with fellow rich kids from his childhood.
- "50 Words of Dale and Hadley" - 50 prompt snippets about Dev's parents (before his birth).
- "50 Words of The Dimmadomes" - 50 prompt snippets about Dev's early upbringing.
- "An Old Wish" - Dev, Peri, and a series of comedic magical attempts to win Dev's parents' love (including time travel, memory manipulation, and raising the dead).
These 'fics are early in the timeline and fairly tame :) At the time of scheduling this, they're unrevealed on AO3, but will be up soon.

Recommended ways to get into the full AU
🌄 First Written - "50 Words of Dev and Hazel"
51. Horror - Okay, so maybe that movie had been a little spookier than he'd prepared for... But even if flesh-eating mermaids haunted his dreams for a year, setting up that chocolate board, pillow fort, and brownie bar for his and Hazel's ultimate horror binge-watch was totally worth it.
50 scene snippets about a snotty rich boy (self-improvement in progress) and an anxious newcomer to the big city (Livin' big and lovin' life) - Set during "The Treble With Rivals" and the week following.
OR, Dev and Hazel go to Tokyo, say hi to Dev's mom, and Dev picks on orchestra kids because #Band For Life.
(G - 5,000 words)
📅 Chronological Start - Lemonade and Papercuts
Dale backstory 'fic that alternates between his extreme childhood trauma and adulthood stress (Especially regarding business deals, his wife's pregnancy, and Dev's birth).
Not yet written, but very likely E or Not Rated for excessive trauma, uncomfortable arranged-marriage honeymoon, the intimacy leading up to Dev's birth, pregnancy, and probably a childbirth scene. Will update info when confirmed! Btw, I'll be posting Dale's character profile on the sideblog soon- Both that and the summaries page are a great place to get "Who is City Lights Dale as a person?" vibes if you want to read my take on his personality, but don't want to read this intense 'fic. I expect this to be the most intense of my dead dove longfics in terms of upsetting or sensual content as this one won't have started on FFN (with its restrictions), and also... Look at him. He was just handed to me with my favorite trope in the world: "Overwhelming intimacy issues that make bedroom life a cesspool of nerves and doubt" <3 Cupioromantic asexual instinct to strip him to his bones and take his mind apart...
I don't recommend starting the AU with this 'fic unless you're ready, but it IS the beginning of the chronology.
There are several tamer pieces in City Lights AU that touch on Dale's past with Vicky and Hadley if you'd prefer to start there.
🗺️ Worldbuilding - So, You're Studying the Cloudlands...
A collection of worldbuilding and meta essays covering subjects like biology, culture, history, holidays, magic, maps, and a handbook on new godkid assignments.
I'm not planning to change my worldbuilding because it's very detailed and I don't feel like starting from scratch. However, City Lights AU is not likely to deep-dive into magic and culture. Because... the cloudlands are heavily featured in Cloudlands AU. We live on the ground now.
You may also like my @riddledeep blog, where I first posted this meta. New Wish short bios and full character profiles can also be found on the blog.
I'm currently moving lore posts from the sideblog to the guide linked above. This way, the content is backed up and accessible to those who don't use Tumblr.
📋 AU Notes & Warnings
Notable lore tweaks (i.e. not canon-compliant with A New Wish)-
- I've heard rumor that Dimmadelphia is "canonically" not in California. However, in this AU it is because there are many Dimmsdale characters and references (such as the sign pointing towards Dimmsdale, implying it's near). -> In the OG series, Timmy's parents seemingly went to Dimmadelphia to look for Timmy in "Channel Chasers" after he ran away from home (They went inside the Dimmadelphia Cable building), further justifying it being nearby. -> In City Lights AU, it's in California (but you still have to go to Dimmsdale to climb the Rainbow Bridge from the bottom, as we know from OG canon that it touches down there). - This AU will most likely be replacing Hazel's 1 million wishes in "The Battle of Big Wand" with a fairyversary plot, because it just makes more sense to me. - No pasta puberty. My lore is very biology-based, so insect people producing spaghetti from armpits doesn't work for me (Plus, that episode was rough on my hemophobia and it simply does not spark joy). -> In City Lights AU, Hazel had something else going on that fell halfway between human puberty and having a ton of magic in her, kind of like the Terrible Twos from the OG series. - Dale is trying to keep Dev alive. I'll probably keep the part where he knocked Dev over in "The Battle of Big Wand" because it's interesting, but I'm playing him with a "My son needs to be my heir" angle. He will still talk about loving boots more than his wife and son, but he sure doesn't want his heir dead. - "A child must always get what they want" is not in Da Rules. That's not a smart thing to put in the laws that hold the universe together… Why even have a rulebook at that point? - Minor detail tweaks for world consistency - Ex: The people who show up at the school concert or stand near kids in lines likely have connections to them; this influences family headcanons. -> Classroom has consistency - Ex: In the show, Kev tends to disappear so Dev and Hazel can be portrayed onscreen at the same time, but there's no need for me to do that in 'fic. -> I've seen a lot of cool Dev heterochromia headcanons, but in this AU, his eyes are consistently blue. My thought here is that Dev's and Dale's eyes look green under harsh yellow lighting, but blue is what I'm drawing/writing them with.
Morally gray characters abound - No one is "purely cruel" or "purely good." Since I expect to post a lot of Dale trauma content, I want to be clear that he will neither be portrayed as extremely abusive towards his son nor excused from his wrongs.
I'm playing Dale from a neglectful angle where he tends to assume Dev is doing "just fine." He doesn't go out of his way to cause harm, but we don't excuse the harm he does. There's a lot of "Hadley comforting and supporting Dale" themes because... she's his wife and she was there when he was fresh out of his abuse. Just keep in mind that even if Hadley and Dale think they're good parents, we know they're not.
Idealization of abuse & neglect - City Lights Dale cared a lot for Vicky, denied and excused a lot of what she did, kept hoping she’d change if he was "a better friend," and had a hard time adjusting to life after she stopped telling him what to do. He has to work through a LOT of trauma.
Also, general vibes of Dev looking up to his parents and making excuses for them. Lots of rose-colored glasses in this family... Dale definitely did the same for Doug and Pearl.
Themes of guilt and shame - Dale blaming himself for Vicky abusing him… Doug insisting his son keep quiet about his trauma lest people start to talk.
Shout-out to the au pairs beating themselves up over their failures in canon: a trait I will totally be expanding on in this AU. Dale, do you wanna talk about that?
Fairy & Anti-Fairy counterparts consider each other family. They colloquially refer to each other as "cousins," but biologically, they're the same person (one soul split in separate bodies, with many believing they'll reunite as a single person after death).
It's fair game for them to attend family reunions, remark that they're relatives, or reference their shared soul. If that's a squick for you, you'll also want to avoid my Cloudlands AU. Example one-shot - "Scarred" - Stream of consciousness narration where Poof discusses his social and mental relationship with Foop. This is Cloudlands AU, but these vibes apply here.
Peri is a gyne: a biological "queen bee" whose freckles and pheromones lure in drone Fairies (who require preening to stay satisfied). Will he find any of his own in this AU? I don't know... Maybe in this AU, Cavatina doesn't try to kill him. That would be fun!
For reference, H.P. and Big Daddy are gynes in my lore; Peri will have the same bulky shape when he's older. Why is he one? He's an insect person who ate too much jelly as a baby- That's biology!
"You're not gonna explore a different-?" -> No, Irep's still got his pilot stripes (i.e. mustache and goatee), so I have no choice <3 "But he doesn't show freckles-" -> They're still in the pale white stage (and Irep's will still be purple like Foop's are in canon). Peri is still young and his freckles won't darken until he's older.
Poor Peri has a stronger scent than other Fae due to those pheromones. Even humans can whiff him without much effort.
As a "queen bee," Peri is wired to fight other gynes to the death if he gets agitated and loses self-control. I don't plan to delve into this in City Lights since that's what Cloudlands AU is for, but it might be referenced now and then, especially since Goldie thinks it's hot.
In City Lights, he still grew up as Finley's roommate (with Finley the dominant one). Peri is under the usual gyne lore: drones are drawn to Finley over him, but Peri's pheromones start picking up when he's in a place where he's the dominant gyne... like the Dimmadome household. Unless Dale and Dev spook him so much that he stays submissive, which is very funny, actually.
Violence, threats, and spooks - Canon-typical threats and commentary of the villain variety, keeping in mind that I write semi-realistic physics which can make these things more upsetting than the cartoon.
- Vicky's many weapons. OG series confirms she's left scars all over Mark and he interprets them as courtship signs. OG series Vicky often threatened Timmy and others with blades. - OG series H.P. put shock collars on Cosmo and Wanda and thought shocking them even when they did nothing wrong was hilarious ("Wish Fixers"). - OG series Vicky ate meatballs while believing they were eyeballs and claimed a severed arm served for dinner was "been there, done that" ("Timmy's 2D House of Horror"). - Bad luck can get messy. In canon, stepping on a crack breaks your mother's back. People get roughed up. People may experience burns, scrapes, and general injury. - Harassment charges and potential jailtime (e.g. "What if Tootie never toned back as she grew up?" & "Hey, maybe there should be consequences to Dale stalking a little girl.") - Foop's always had a thing for poisonous spiders and flames
Grossness & Gore - Messy, but always for a purpose.
- Vomiting (Magical backup, pregnancy, allergic reactions, general sickness) -> It is very likely Dale will have an eating disorder (or more than one). Will edit with specifics when I've finalized plans. I've always played Foop's alt personality with body dysphoria and bulimia, but it's never been shown onscreen. we'll see what happens. - Yoo-doo doll damage (Limb loss, smacks, cuts, burns, bite marks, and similar damage that can be inflicted on a doll) - Unpleasant descriptions of decaying bodies and bones. - Heavily implied (and possibly portrayed in L&P) cannibalism (Would that be messed up if I took Vicky's "2D House of Horror" comments literally or what? why did she say she's eaten multiple severed human arms? hey. what. Am I supposed to be normal about that? When will I ever get that 'fic opportunity again.) - Some characters go hunting (For birds, big game, etc.) Other characters (like Chloe, the Pixies, Gary, and Betty) are opposed to hunting. -> Dale (raised by Doug), Hadley (raised by Ed Leadly), Timmy (Pappy & Timmy's Dad grew up in the woods and Sparky is a good hunting dog), and Chester are all hunters (In canon, Chester and his dad eat things they've hunted or foraged iirc).
Detailed discussions of trauma, neglect, child abuse, and misery - Especially regarding Vicky, Crocker, and their influence on other characters.
'Fics are tagged. Trauma is discussed much more in the 'fics with high ratings. Trauma is glossed-over, sillier, or not mentioned in Gen and T works for this series.
- Dale, Peri, Timmy, and Irep in particular have issues with Vicky (Weapons, yelling, bullying, etc.) but that's par for the course. - Peri's Hocus Poconos trauma, such as in a possible post-"Lost in Fairy World" 'fic where a nervous Peri hovers over Dev. - Canon-typical miserable children in the miserable children show.
Character death - I'm committing to my "Doug is dead and Dale misses him" theory. If that gets disproved in later seasons, that's fine; this is an AU.
- Expect a 'fic of Dale witnessing Doug's death. Even if he doesn't, Doug's absence will be mentioned multiple times. - There will probably be minor character (OC) deaths in high-rated 'fics. I've not finalized plans, but it's likely. - Other character may also be mentioned as dead (Ex: Assorted ancestors, Cosmo's dad... Big Daddy could show up and imply he's doing shady things). - Beyond that, I don't have plans to kill canon characters at this time. If I do, I expect it to be in a far future piece where characters are in their old age, or when Fairies have moved on and are reminiscing on the past.
Break-ups & strained relationships - Peri/Goldie are strained for sure. They have a very on-and-off dating life that plays into the popular kid vibes the OG series set up for their school days.
Things are tense, but less traumatic for those two here than in Cloudlands AU (We're not mirroring their dubcon arc over here- They have new young adult problems now like learning to live alone and cook real food)
- Difficult family relationships (Ex: Dale & Doug, Dale & Dev) - Potentially some Irep/Sammy (or Irep/OC, especially if I go the route of betrothal drama). Undecided! I write a lot of Foop/OC in other projects and I think I'd enjoy the Irep/Sammy character exploration. - I don't have infidelity themes planned, but it could be discussed (Ex: My lore is that Big Daddy had an affair with a non-fairy - hence Anti-Wanda's round ears instead of pointed ones - so there's that, but I don't think that will come up in this AU). -> Dale's wife is super paranoid that he'll cheat on her because he hangs out with a lot of rich and powerful folks who are nice to him... but I cannot express enough how spooked of people City Lights AU Dale is and how much he would Not Do That. -> Now that I think about it, I feel like Dev is the kind of person who would try to set his mom up with someone else. Maybe I'll write that. She's a happily married woman, but I respect the hustle.
Sexuality and Consent Themes (Ex: Aspec- or trauma-themed dubcon)
Dating life, married life, aphobia (especially of the internalized kind), and sexual themes... written by an aroace person who enjoys playing with the ideas of attraction, anxiety, and consent [in fiction]
-> Think "Dale trusts no one, but has a kid- Let's talk about it!" and characters with thoughts like "Oh, maybe I'm not as comfy with this as I thought. Good to know!"
-> Imagine internalized aphobia along the lines of "Some of these characters grew up in the amatonormative 90s or early 2000s and don't consider that not getting in a relationship (or not having sex / children) is a genuine option they could pursue, or that there's even a word for their feelings or lack thereof."
- I write a wide range of aspec characters who each have their own preferences (some interested in relationships while others aren't). If you want a peek at these portrayals, I discussed many of my asexual headcanons HERE. - As with all themes, do not come to this AU expecting everything to be hunky-dory. Author deeply loves being aroace, but we raise a glass to drama... especially of the "just realized I'm aspec and not necessarily at a good time" variety. lol.
- I don't have rape themes planned, but it's on the table as something that could come up. Ironically, I can confirm it won't be for any of the characters who have rape/non-con trauma in Cloudlands AU. I do not expect it, but I would hate to not warn and then have it come up. As always, AO3 tags exist for a reason and there's nothing wrong with not reading 'fics that aren't for you- No pressure!
Themes of childfree life - And steps taken to prevent accidental kids. Not described in detail, but very relevant to some characters.
Ex: Dinklebergs are big on childfree life, all male witches are infertile, my OC Finley will die if he loses that much magic, some characters just don't want kids.
Themes of memory, including memory loss or manipulation - Godkids losing memories, Dev and Dale after "Battle of Big Wand," and so on. Peri [Poof] never got to say good-bye to Timmy.
Timmy and Chloe do not remember Cosmo, Wanda, or Peri. They've grown up to live normal, happy grown-up lives. They're chillin' with their partners (Molly & Kevin, respectively). I'm playing this as a positive thing, but it's worth warning for those who don't like AUs where Timmy loses his memories. Alas... the average kid stays average to the end, and no one plays the game forever...
That's everything I can think of right now. This AU is still in the early stages, so things might be added later. Works will be tagged appropriately on AO3. Please let me know if you think of anything I missed!
You can create works based on this AU. Please cite me and/or the AU as appropriate (i.e. for things very specific to this AU). You are free to expand on ideas you've thought of thanks to my AU as a jumping off point. I'd love to reblog or link things to my AO3 works if I see them!
I write content with morally gray characters. Please don't portray my story events or worldbuilding out of context with intentional malice. As in, I request you do not post things created for the specific intention of bashing me or the AU

John Crichton for the character ask game
I'm incredibly late replying to this, sorry -- finished my Season 4 rewatch over the weekend and needed a little time to unpack my thoughts about it.
(Asks are from this post.)
Favorite thing about them
Crichton's not quite in my top tier of Farscape characters (that'd be Aeryn, Scorpius, Rygel, Pilot and -- after my latest rewatch, and much to my surprise, Sikozu), but I do like him.
Indeed, Crichton is so obviously the main character of the show (or at least the viewpoint character) that I'm not sure it's possible to really be a fan of Farscape if you didn't. But that being said, one of the things I like most about him is the extent to which the show doesn't want to position him as The Hero
In the Farscape Illustrated Companion, Rockne O'Bannon talks a bit about how much everybody involved in making the show wanted to avoid Crichton falling into the "cocky, nothing-really-matters TV hero category", and Ben Browder and others talk about the same thing on a lot of the audio commentaries.
And that's a trap I think the show could easily fall into: a worse version of the show would be … well, Andromeda, with Crichton as the Kevin Sorbo figure single-handedly fixing problems in the Uncharted Territories everywhere he travels.
But that's not who Cricthon is. As Pilot puts it in Crackers Don't Matter: he's "not particularly smart […] and not even vaguely physically or spiritually imposing." Humans aren't anything special in the Farscape universe, and Crichton is (for the most part) no exception to that. The crew don't defer to him and don't especially trust or respect him. I mean, when there's finally a vote to see who'll be named captain of Moya nobody even thinks of voting for him. Rygel gets more votes than he does.
(Okay, presumably Rygel voted for himself, but still.)
Sure, Crichton's an astronaut and a scientist and he's generally well-meaning, but he's mostly just a very unlucky guy who happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time a lot. And as the opening narration says, he's just trying his best -- which isn't always enough -- to muddle through things and get home. Horrible things happen to him out in the Uncharted Territories and he does not walk away unscarred; it's not even obvious that the galaxy is better off with him being there. And I think that's a really interesting choice, especially given when Farscape originally aired.
On a more minor note, I enjoy the running joke of Crichton not being able to remember the names of any of the aliens of the week they run into, and just how much it irritates everybody else on Moya. Sure, given the translator microbes I'm not sure it makes any sense, but it is funny. (Especially in The Ugly Truth, when we flashback to the start from Crichton's perspective and are immediately clued into the reality that Crichton's memory is not flawless from the fact that all of the crew are now also calling the Plokavians 'Plakavoids'.)
Well, maybe I'm easily amused.
Least favorite thing about them
On the other hand, sometimes (maybe a lot more than sometimes, especially in the first season), they do fall into exactly that trap, either by inserting Crichton into scenes or subplots where he doesn't really do anything but distract from somebody else in the crew, or insisting that the latest aliens of the week happen to find Crichton instantly attractive (despite his … well, see above).
More than one person I've recommended the show to has given up on it, and they've always given Crichton as the reason. The show just isn't quite as subversive as I think it wants to be.
(From memory, Ben Browder flags the scene at the end of The Way We Weren't as a perfect example of this on that episode's audio commentary. It's a touching moment of mutual recognition between Pilot and Aeryn, with Pilot's line about having been willing to do terrible things because of his desperation to see the stars echoing Aeryn's guilt over what she did to return to flying a Prowler. And also Crichton is there, for … no obvious reason?)
This is also why I find parts of Season 4 a little underwhelming, I think: for a number of different reasons -- the fact that Aeryn loses a lot of agency, the fact that wormholes are so important to the whole season, the fact that Cricthon actually gets to go home when none of the rest of the crew do -- Crichton really does become the main character in a way I think he wasn't before.
Favorite line
"I am not Kirk, Spock, Luke, Buck, Flash, or Arthur frelling Dent. I am Dorothy Gale from Kansas."
brOTP
In terms of … actual friendship? I think the answer has to be Ka D'Argo. And I do like how organically the first couple of seasons work up from "D'Argo and Crichton don't understand each other and don't want to" through "D'Argo and Crichton are reluctant allies even if they don't always get along" up to "oh, wait, they're actually friends now." But the back half of season 3 has a lot of weird fighting between them which really seems to suggest the writers haven't got much of an idea what to do with them anymore, and I don't think they really get to do much in season 4 either.
So I'm going to be contrary and say Harvey instead. Sure, he might just be a weird hallucinatory echo of a neural chip an alien implanted in Crichton's head after torturing him, and their interests might be fundamentally misaligned to the extent they've both tried to kill each other several times. But who else is Crichton going to go to the beach and have margarita shooters with?
(And ... well. Just the idea of the neural chip was such a clever way of letting Scorpius keep appearing in the show every few episodes without diluting him as a villain, so I'm not surprised the writers were so reluctant to ever get rid of it.)
OTP
Aeryn Sun!
Honestly, if this wasn't a separate question I'd have had 'being utterly crazy about Aeryn' as Crichton's best (and most relatable) characteristic.
But I mean, the Aeryn/Crichton relationship is -- much like Crichton himself -- such a big part of the show I'm not sure anybody who didn't like it could stand to watch.
nOTP
Like I said before, I think the show (and Crichton himself) is at its weakest when it forgets that Crichton isn't James T. Kirk and decides he should be instantly attractive to whatever human-looking-aliens he's just stumbled into.
Off the top of my head, just in the first season there's Lyneea from I, ET, Gilina from PK Tech Girl and of course Lishala from everybody's favorite episode Jeremiah Crichton.
But the one I think makes the least sense is Jenavian from the Look at the Princess trilogy. She's got just enough characterization to make it clear she shouldn't find Crichton interesting or attractive, and yet. Just felt weird and unnecessary.
(Okay, I lied.  I had to go back and look up all of those names.)
Random headcanon
I go back and forth on this, but I think I kind of like the idea that Stark somehow managed to transfer Tayln!Chricton's memories back to Moya!Crichton when they met up again.
(Although this is around the time the show completely loses track of Stark as a character, so who knows what the writers intended.)
Unpopular opinion
Is the Farscape fandom big enough for there to be unpopular opinions?
Song I associate with them
I don't really have any song I associate with any of the Farscape characters, so I'm going to take this opportunity to say that I really like the Farscape opening credits music (in all its iterations, though especially Season 3).
Favorite picture of them
Could've gone with a number of Crichton-staring-at-Aeryn screenshots, or Cricton's increasingly dismayed reactions to the terrible things that keep happening to him (the final shot of Cricthon screaming wordlessly on the operating table at the end of Season 2 is such a great cliffhanger).
But since I brought up Crackers Don't Matter already, let's go with a classic:
Tumblr media
"I look ridiculous, don't I?"
(Not shown, Aeryn nodding emphatically.)

Something frustrating I've noticed, especially in the early aughts shows I liked, exceptions of course existed but I'm talking as a broader whole.
GENERATOR REX:
-Dr. Holiday; The 'motherly' figure, who's super smart and figures things out but like...she doesn't DO much of anything to advance the story or plot and she's often not doing much
-Circe; An extremely satellite love interest who disappears? idk wtf happens to her, tbh. she has 0 personality
-Black Knight; The villain lady, Ice Queen Archetype. Boring
And that's all I can think of that are NAMED, APPEAR FOR MORE THAN ONE EPISODE female characters....
SECRET SATURDAYS
-Drew Saturday; Mostly a good character, but falls into the Mom trope. She's the mother/relative of our main character and so is often more supporting than active. At least she is active and complex.
-Wadi; Love Interest, bratty child one because they're 10-11 but she gets very little screen time and we don't know much about her beyond the fact that she likes to steal items & likes Zak.
-Rani Nagi; A Naga, who is evil and wants to revive Kur and is a villain with no more depth than that...
-Dr. Miranda Grey & Abbey Grey; The Grey Sisters are supporting cast and not very interesting--they just fulfill story purpose but at least they're women. Secret Saturdays is the least bad about this, but 5 named female characters appearing for more than one episode is...bad...
BEN 10;
-Main Female Lead is Cousin, who is supposedly pretty powerful in the following series though we only ever see her do support, we never see much of a focus on her as a character and she is rather static.
She remains bossy good girl cousin, the brainy one of the trio dating emotionally unavailable Kevin who needs to deal with his trauma, despite Kevin and Ben having more connection and scenes in the entire series.
Her entire character revolves around who she is related to (Ben, Their Grandfather, Her Grandmother, etc.) or who she is romantically attracted to (Kevin, Morning/Dark Star, etc.)
We never talk about Gwen's interests, what Gwen likes, who Gwen is outside of her family. Apparently she likes school but WHAT ELSE GUYS?
-Kai Green; There's a lot to unpack here; Her first name is at least Native American, but the whole introduction episode has not aged well and, just. Wow. Also she's boring and evil, I guess? Like what the hell? Oh also a love interest who is introduced in one ep and returns in the third series
-Julie Yamamoto; Another LOVE INTEREST and she does actually seem pretty cool, but then they broke her and Ben up because reasons???? Reasons.
Reasons Being That A Strong Female Character With Actual Screen Time Was Too Hard
ESPECIALLY since they had them break up OFF. SCREEN. in between series.
That is totally not suspicious at all.
-Other Female Characters; forgettable, one-shot, etc.
This is pretty much an epidemic for early 2000s cartoons & is also well exemplified in the Nolanverse Batman Trilogy
Female Characters Have A Very Limited Range To Be
They Are
1. The Mom/Sister/Cousin etc Relative Character who has some moments but is mostly support for the main cast and rarely, if ever, showcases her abilities unless everyone else is out of it. This character is only comic relief and rarely presented as pretty and is relegated to side-kick.
2. The Good Girl. Pure of Heart, Usually The Love Interest Satellite Character Who Acts As The Morality Pet/Compass to Main Male Character. 9/10 times she's also a virgin or too innocent to be overtly sexual....
3. The Traitor/Villain/Bad Girl. Almost Always Sultry and/or Sexy (bc owning your sexuality is "bad") and clearly represents temptation for our hero. Can't be evil just to be evil, must have a reason.
And that's it. I think its why I always disliked Ben 10 in many ways, the same for Generator Rex; I wanted to like these shows, but there was either too much going on to follow a coherent story (Rex) or the ongoing issues with a series made in the 2000s
Alien Force WAS SO GOOD and that is WHERE the show should've ended its run, but then Omniverse happened.
-So yeah, stop doing these three female characters please, PLEASE give us varied people in shows. It is happening, slowly but surely.
Also we were robbed
-Ben 10 (alien series)
-Gen Rex (AU alien earth)
-Secret Saturdays (Cryptids)
-Magic? MAGIC? it's been mentioned several times in original BEN 10 series that magic exists & is real, same with Secret Saturdays and its been established they share the same universe so...
WHERE IS OUR MAGIC SHOW, MAN OF ACTION?

Reboot Review
Finished the reboot and this is what I have to say about it. This is just my opinion though.
Tumblr media
Season 1: it's fun but ngl, I couldn't find a plot here. If you are looking to watch something short and funny, this is for you guys. Personally, while I enjoyed it, this isn't something I would actually take time to find and watch on the Internet or join a fandom because of it. More like, if it's already playing on TV, then I'd watch it. 6/10
Tumblr media
Season 2: it's the awkward, puberty phase. Like it's getting better and growing but it's not quite there yet. While there is a plot, the whole Vilgax arc wasn't my fav. No hate to anyone who liked it, but I just didn't vibe with it.
Characters were in the stage of being developed and the show was trying to find itself here. 7/10
Tumblr media
Season 3 : PERFECTION. Literally, from all the characters to the story of this season. The forever knights and my fav, Kevin being introduced, the plot. Everything was really well done. There isn't anything to complain about here. I'd give this season 10/10
Tumblr media
Season 4 : it's like summer break. There was cleaning up with the forever knights thing and bringing back Kevin, and it seemed like the show went into a sort of relaxation mode after that. While tbh, I don't think there was a plot besides bringing up the forever knights a bit, it was really enjoyable.it has some of the most creative episodes that were really fun to watch.
There was character development and while it didn't have a definite story line, it seemed like it was leaving hints that could be built upon in the future like Phil's lab and all that.
It wasn't aimless like season 1 though and it really seemed to work more in the area of character development, especially Ben and addressing issues he face more head on. 9/10
Tumblr media
Ben 10, 010: dont hate me, but this special could've just been a 20-25 minute episode and it would've made the same impact.
Like really, what even happened. Ben disappeared, earth under attack, Ben's called back, sent back in time, recruits 10 year old ben, back to future, fight the bad guy, won. Wohoo.
Wasn't a huge fan of all the villains turning a new leaf and OMG CAN WE PLEASE STOP LETTING KEVIN HAVE A HORRIBLE LIFE WHERE HE'S ALWAYS STUCK AS SOMETHING!
Let him be happy and content.
This wasn't really my fav, sorry. 6/10
Tumblr media
Ben Gen 10 : I like the idea, but having Rex and Ben sharing the same universe just left me confused. Like I guess they did it so rex could show up more later on, and so they wont have to start a whole new show with Rex. They could just make it one big Ben 10 series with Rex as a character in it.
I would've preferred they had Rex jump over from another world because of Hex's flute because now I'm here trying to make sense of how this works.
The special was decent. Not super amazing but it wasn't bad. Decent. 7/10
Tumblr media
Alien X tinction - now this is what you call a special. It had a good plot, ben learnt something, was actually pretty dark with max and gwen actually dying in a timeline, the fact that some Ben lost an arm due to alien X, the cross overs of other Ben's and Gwen. It had a good amount of drama and mystery all while keeping it light hearted enough to qualify as something they wanted to show their target audience. It was great, story and all. Def recommend. 10/10
Tumblr media
Ben vs the Universe - would've loved it if Kevin wasn't thrown aside in the end. Like literally, he was flung aside and then he just disappeared.
But other than that, it was a great movie.
It set up a few things that could be built upon, especially the part where Azmuth mentions he sent the omnitrix for a specific group of people. I can't remember if they addressed that but it seems like there's a lot to unpack here.
Also I don't think glitch died per say. I mean he is pretty fluid like right? I don't think ripping him apart is going to do much. Probably just lost power and will most likely be fine once charged up I guess.
But this is a really good movie. If Kevin's disappearance wasn't pushed under the rug so easily, I'd give it a 10/10.
But since it was, here's a 9/10.
Disclaimer: this is just my opinion. If you disagree, please be respectful.
