Kevin Day is Babygirl.

The upperclassmen want Neil to be Babygirl so badly that it literally kills them that he’s not. He’s just not. Nothing about him gives Babygirl. He only exudes feral street cat who was given a can of tuna on a good day and stuck around vibes. They hate it. They want him to be Babygirl so badly.

Eventually, though, when they finally accept it, and Neil has literally done everything possible to fend them off, they realize Neil is not Babygirl. But then, from out of the shadows, emerges Kevin Babygirl Day. They’d been so busy trying to make it work with Neil they had been missing what was right in front of them this whole time. They’d failed to see what the monsters already knew. Kevin Day is The Babygirl.

Of course, the only person who acknowledges this fact within the monster circle is the monster himself, Andrew Minyard, but once it’s been seen, it cannot be unseen. Kevin goes from being Andrew’s Babygirl to the team's Babygirl. And Kevin not knowing but responding positively to it anyway makes it so much better. The sudden praise and care that comes with it? The attention and affectionate indulgence? He’s unsure why everyone’s started being so nice to him, but he’s not complaining.

Don’t get me wrong, when Kevin gets in a mood, they all steer clear, and they still fight with him when they want to, but he’s just so precious. How could they ever stay mad? And the crazy thing is that Kevin is better for it. He’s happier and softer around them. He learns to feel not only safe but comfortable and relaxed with them. His bad moods don't last so long and he's genuinely a lot happier. He doesn’t need Andrew or Neil by his side to feel protected anymore.

The upperclassmen’s inside joke unintentionally becomes what helps Kevin heal and open up as a person rather than remain the hollowed-out shell from The Nest. Kevin thrives under their attention and praise, so much so that he starts to seek it out subconsciously. He gets mopey and upset when they don’t acknowledge him. It actually hurts his feelings when they ignore him. He actively becomes a better person, someone who is healing because they so positively love him. All because they jokingly Babygirlified him.

So anyway. Yeah. Kevin Day is Babygirl.

if there's one thing you need to know about me it's that i'm always going to give Jeremy Knox trauma. i don't care if that boy is sunshine personified. i don't care if he's healing Jean Moreau. i don't care if he's supposed to be the sane & normal side of Exy. babydoll's got the Grey's Anatomy equivalent of a dark past. he's a wreck. he's reckless. he's plagued. he's got that special lore. his backstory is a locked tomb.

No cause why the fuck am I now finding out that there was a time period where kevin was hated??? Wtf??? I joined the Fandom like half a year ago and I am now finding out that people hated my precious meow meow, my sweet darling asshole princess?? Wtf??? That god for @dayurno for being one of the first people that I found here so that I wouldn't have even thought of that, (even though I loved him from the beginning). The most frustrating thing ever is when writers create the gayest character ever who is so gay that you can see the rainbow a week before the rain but the writer is so deep in denial that they then put the gay character in the most diabolical, jail worthy straight relationship

one thing though that i thought was very interesting in tsc was how jeremy and kevin swapped some key personality traits the fanon associated with them. kevin being a grounded, stable pilar vs jeremy being (though well-intentioned & kindly) pushy and falling into codependency with jean like many of us assumed would be the inevitable outcome of kevin and jean reconciling. quite surprising!

thinking about kevaaron falling in love. except there’s nothing big or catastrophic about it. no big fallouts or misunderstandings. they fall in love quietly. kevin, so used to andrew’s unwavering attention finds himself suddenly having to contend with neil taking up so much of it. aaron, who lost that attention years ago, barely felt like he had it in the first place, has been desperate for it for years. they look at each other. they smile at each other. they relate to each other. they speak about how they feel about andrew, aaron’s simultaneous love and hatred and kevin’s dependence. kevin’s starts to feel like kevin in front of aaron, not kevin day, son of exy. aaron starts to feel like aaron not aaron minyard, andrew’s brother. they’re friends, they break down each other’s facades, they understand each other in a way no one else can. loving what has only ever hurt you. and then one day they kiss. and it doesn’t feel wrong or shocking or anything bad at all. it only feels right. they kiss again.
