Standing Tall! The #KenFowser #Quintet live from the @thedjangonyc at @theroxyhotelnyc in #Tribeca. • #TheDjango is one of the best #Jazz bars in the City. Great location, great food, great vibe. Hang for dinner and a show, then chill at the Roxy bar for drinks and a hang. We just have to convince @tonyfant to keep the place open until 5am with a small fare snack menu and the place would be complete. Maybe add a pool to the roof, then it’ll really be complete. 😂😉. If there were ever a picture to define the frustration of the Jazz community around the world, it would be this picture of @jbruneau #JoshBruneau . No, that is not a unique custom bent horn akin to a reverse subtle Dizzy. This was Josh not playing for a long time due to the pandemic, and when he picked up his horn again, he felt like he had lost a part of it. Frustrated, he slammed his horn on the ground. I can write a short film vignette just out of that description.

Tonight, he sounded better than ever, with one of the best rhythm sections on the planet backing him up playing with @kenfowser. The stoic bottom of @gbasscleff #GeraldCannon and @straightswingin68 #WillieJonesIII with #RickGermnason keeping it there while #KenFowser and Josh work it in.

Josh tonight was playing with a fire of revenge in him.

That horn is the symbol of every tired and frustrated creative on the planet. For the most part, creatives need to be out there, need to play, need to be heard, need to be seen, need to show, need to breathe the air in a room with hundreds.

I had the absolute pleasure of popping by for two set at @thedjangonyc in the @theroxyhotelnyc for the #PatMartino (@martinopat) tribute concert. If you don’t know Pat’s story, it’s one of amazement. The cliff notes … he had a seizure and the emergency brain surgery left him with amnesia and he forgot how to pay guitar. He then taught himself to play again by transcribing his old solos so he could learn to play like himself again. Just WOW! • The blistering set put out by some of the best guitarist in Jazz is one for the record books, wish these pictures had sound. #PeterBernsteinGuitar, @markwhitfieldtheguitarist @paul_bollenback @dave.stryker @carmenintorrejr @patbianchiofficial running into the wee hours of the night in Tribeca. These guitar players left it all on that stage. When @kenfowser set out to book opening night at @thedjangonyc for April 1, 2021 more than a year after it closed, I thought it was an April fools joke. But this band is no joke. A night at the Roxy. • @theroxyhotelnyc is one of the few rooms open and doing it right. Helmed by the musical direction of @kenfowser and his booking prowess, there is a nightly band playing in a great atmosphere. Fantastic food and wonderful staff. With many unannounced #Jazz Legends and Greats sitting in. • The #RoxyHotel formerly the #TribecaGrand has been a beacon of hope during many tragic times here in NYC. On September 11 it opened its doors for months to residents who had been displaced or lost their homes. A night at the Roxy has a whole new meaning. Here, you see some of the people that helped keep the dream alive during one of the most difficult times a generation has experienced. At the epicenter of what was the most devastated place on earth. We banded together and kept the music alive, from some of the best musicians on earth, to the fans and promoters of the music. • @bbjazziii calling people to come play a piece of astroturf at @terremotocoffee to @nycjazztour getting the word out, @kenfowser getting the rooms going when we could get back indoors, fans like @claudia_tebar coming by every show she could make it to, @veronicaswiftjazz playing any room that had a mic and a piano drawing the crowds and keeping people in awe. With superstars like @markwhitfieldtheguitarist @griffinfink @christiansandsjazz @tonyglausi @antoinedrye and the list of musicians is too long to list and probably fit in this picture that have made a trip to @thecraftsmannyc @theroxyhotelnyc #terrmotocoffee @loulou.nyc and the list goes on to the places that kept the music going when the world seemed like a bleak place. It seems like we may be headed that way for a short time. But as long as you hear the trumpet play... you will know there is hope. As in the days of the military... in war... the sound of the horn was sign to charge. Cannot thank my two brothers from other mothers enough for the tremendous support to get this directorial debut done. Never thought my first would be a #Jazz Live performance. Always knew my first would really be a live performance film. But to combine it with Jazz... Too cool! • Those two guys @y_kontrol and @_ramos_solis_ that have had my back for a combined 30 yrs. through thick and thin, would have been impossible without.
