Took my fife to the McClelland Sculpture Park and Gallery. Huge long walk around the huge spacious park full of huge amazing sculptures, and I stopped to improvise a little motif for the vibe of each sculpture. Doot doot tiny flute 🪈

Favourite sculpture was Colin Suggett's "National Anxiety Index". Such a powerful piece!

Extremely close second is Ken Unsworth's "Annulus". Whole bunch of stones hovering in concentric rings, suspended by dozens of wires. That sculpture is so darn cool! Especially in the middle of the day when you get really strong clear shadows beneath the stones, which enables you to see their pattern.

Most fun sculpture was Terrance Plowright's "Tubular Resonance". I sat beside it and used my fife to sing along with its random toots and groans for two or three cycles of its soundscape.

After not touching my fife for like a year, this was such a fun exercise to re-familiarise myself with the instrument. Can't remember any of the melodies I taught myself last year, and I still can't play in its second octave, but I had a lot of fun nonetheless. 😊

Artwork by Ken Unsworth Born: January 1, 1931 (age 90 years). He came to prominence as a sculptor in the 1970s, when he combined performance or body art with highly conceptual sculptural forms. Some of these performances, in particular 'Five secular settings for sculpture as ritual', involved using his own body as a kind of minimalist sculpture.
