From Avengers Academy #20. Written by Anthony Oliveira, art by Carola Borelli and Frank William.
I wasn't expecting to cry while reading Avengers Academy today, but this hit a little too close to home given... *gestures vaguely at the world*
Thanks, Oliveria.

Hazmat is captured and thrown into the cell where she reunites with Ken Mack (a.k.a Mettle), her boyfriend who was thought to be dead since Murderworld incident. Actually Mettle was sold to Emplate by Arcade, and he was somehow brought back to life to be used by Emplate as food source. While imprisoned by Emplate, Mettle's human face grew back over his iridium skin. Thus, Mettle was stuck in the dungeon for a long time. As Hazmat reunites with Mettle, they start kissing until they get interrupted by DOA who wants to take either one of them to feed Emplate. Thanks to Hazmat, Mettle regains his confidence when he powers up and beats DOA to the pulp. Mettle does not look like Red Skull anymore, instead he has a different look as he has iridium hair and face. Even though DOA is decapitated by Mettle, he still survives as a severed head.

Hazmat in Avengers Academy vol. 2 #16 by Anthony Oliveira, Bailie Rosenlund, & K.J. Diaz Hazmat finally learns about the new Avengers Academy and while she has some choice words for Carol (perfect phrasing, 10/10, no notes!), she eventually decides to be the RA that Carol wants her to be. I'm all for this development! Plus, hopefully, this will lead to Mettle coming back. Right! ... Shut up, I can dream! I'm glad to see SOMEONE actually make use of her trauma effectively. It only took, what, 10 years! God, and that's why I'm largely against killing off C-Listers for Cheap Drama. It's cheap and isn't actually used effectively until at least a decade later!

if i had a nickel for every time avengers academy got me hooked on a mixed-race couple and a couple adorable lesbians, i'd have two nickels. which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.

In the recent release of the FNAF movie, I just want to put out some head cannons about Avengers Academy. The comic Avengers Academy, not the game.
Tumblr media
These guys. I really like the team here and it genuinely hurts me that there is not a lot of stuff about them anywhere, specifically where it explores their journey outside of the Academy, except for X-23 and a handful of others.
This would take place before the end of the comic series, where everyone is still part of the Academy.
Reptil is 100% a FNAF fan who watched Markiplier & popular gamer Youtubers, played the games and subscribed to Game Theory Pre-FNAF era. He became obsessed with the game when he was a preteen and it took over his life for a few years. He watched all the content, listen to the fan made music, watched the FNAF musical, and read the books to delve into the mysteries to distract him from the absence of his parents. He largely kept his interest mostly to himself, mainly because most of the others weren’t fans when they met and was thrilled when the movie was announced. In the months leading up to the release date, he organised a month long event where he would watch/play through all the available FNAF games (or watch the Markiplier's versions if he was tired), write down some of his own theories and draft up a timeline, then watch Game theory to see if there was anything else he would look for and before finishing off with the Musical. The month took into account to any world ending events that might take place while also making room for training. Basically set up a cinema experience in the biggest spare room on the campus
Finesse was one of the first of the group who learned about Reptil's FNAF obsession whilst they were in the midst of their situationship but wasn’t all that interested in it. She didn't find it too appealing because it was obvious to her that there were than a few retcons placed in whatever narrative the creator thought up and thought it was a waste of time. She did however, humour Humberto by allowing him to talk about whatever details were frustrating him.
Mettle got into FNAF when he walked in on Reptil playing through one of the games and a jumpscare scared him. He was aware of the games because of the Markiplier memes but wasn't interested enough to actually play through the game to see what the hype was. After a while of seeing Humberto playing through each of the games, he decided to take a crack out of it. It couldn't be that hard if he played the games blind, right? It was. It was a very humbling experience when he jumpscared again and broke his computer after he tossed it out the window. After that he decides to just watch a few play throughs and talked to Humberto about it. He got very into it, and Humberto eventually got him to watch Game Theory as well. He doesn't understand what's happening but is just there for the vibes.
Hazmat doesn't care to know anything about the games or the fandom. She didn't care for before until she saw Mettle destroy his computer when she walked in. Kind of forced to learn about it when overhearing Mettle and Reptil's conversations and be somewhat disturb by how much they've gotten into it. She mildly enjoys the meme and only laughs at compilation videos. This is the same with Lightspeed, White Tiger and a few of the other kids in the Academy.
Striker is one of the few who hates the game. He genuinely find the games stupid, mainly the fact that no one seems to know anything that's going on. If the reason why the games are so popular than what's the point of making it into a film and catering it to one group of people.
Veil was into FNAF when she was younger but lost interest in it after the fourth game. She thought that was a good stopping point in the series and didn’t pick it up until after. She has some old merch back and hears a few things about FNAF from time to time.
X-23 was surprisingly interested in the FNAF. It happened around the time Mettle got interested and started talking about it with Reptil. With her interest peaked, she decided to use it as a way to fine something to talk to them about. But she did not expect to really get into it. Finished watching the playthoughs and reading the books in a few days before coming to Mettle and Reptil about it. She is mostly confused about the relationship between the book and the games but she's very interested in it.
Everyone in the Academy more or less got involved in watching the reviewing all the FNAF content. in the month before the FNAF film came out, most if not everyone at the Academy set up for the FNAF Viewing in the common area with snacks, comfy cushions and blankets and everyone in their pajamas. The other members of the Academy don’t really know what its about but came any. They all ended up going to watch the film with him when the Academy later disbanded not long later.
Giant Man, Tigra and the other teachers are mostly unaware of FNAF but find. Quicksilver was annoyed to find the team’s leader was distracting himself and the others with something so childish. Tigra and Giant Man didn’t mind it as Reptil did take into account to space it for a month and saw it as a group bonding exercise with everyone taking part in the reviewing. Jocasta didn’t really care so long as it didn't clash with their training schedules or missions. Hawkeye and the others were alright with it but was disturbed when he walked in on Reptil explaining the Bite of 83 and the Springlocks in extreme detail to everyone in the room. But they did find it hilarious when Wolverine called them asking why the hell X-23 spent nearly four-hundred dollars on FNAF merch.
Lastly, on their way over to watch the FNAF film, Reptil, Mettle and X-23 wore FNAF cosplayed. Both Reptil and Laura wore security guard uniform, Humberto as the Purple Guy while X-23 was in grey with a white mask strapped to her security belt, as Vanessa/Vanny and Mettle cosplayed as Golden Freddie.

𝐃𝐑𝐀𝐊𝐄𝐍 loves the way your pussy looks stretched out around him, but he has to make sure you're nice and wet for him. he won't fuck you until you've cum at least twice before.
he eats your pussy sloppily and fucks his fingers into you at a stupid pace until you're overstimulated and cumming for him, making a mess all over him the way he likes.
he lays you on your back and pushes his tip into you, hissing at the tightness and warmth of your cunt.
"fuck... you're so goddamn tight baby. lift your leg a little for me; need t'get deeper."
he pushes his cock further inside you, thrusting his hips slowly. he can't decide whether to look at your pussy stretching around his cock, or the cute determined look on your face as you try to adjust to his length.
"you look so fuckin' pretty taking my cock, y'know that?"
his pace quickens and the tip of his cock gently pressing on your sweet spot with each thrust inside. your cunt squeezes him while he fucks you, earning low grunts and groans from him.
"fuck baby, keep squeezing me like that. you like when i fuck you like this, don'tcha? goddamn it, gonna make me fuckin' cum already."

From Avengers Academy #15. Written by Anthony Oliveira, art by Karen Darboe and KJ Diaz
I love how Avengers Academy has been using Emplate to explore queer anxiety around the "predatory queer" trope... Shela is so nervous about becoming a creep, but she isn't one. She simply is not the creep she thinks she is and needs Brielle to ground her to remind her of that. Emplate, the scary vampire monster, is a creep though and Shela and her new girlfriend are going to kick his ass.
Tumblr media
Good for them!!!
Tumblr media
Also, Mettle's back!!! We love this for him - and the redesign to make him not look like the Red Skull is an excellent choice.
This book remains amazing - truly one of the best things Marvel is putting out right now - and I am going to continue to talk about it until someone greenlights a physical printing of it...

Holy shit! I did not expect to see Mettle in the All-New Avengers Academy Infinity Comic. Even though Hazmat is captured by Emplate and DOA, she is happy to find that her boyfriend is alive.

I did not expect, in 2023, to ever really hear about Mettle again. Never mind Screenrant of all places extolling his virtues!

Play for Today: The Rank and File (BBC, 1971)
"I mean, the cry of a kiddie, the hungry kiddie, that means much more to me than all the laws and all the prisons in creation. I go along with Trotsky, that life is beautiful; that the future generation cleanses of all the oppression, violence and evil and - and enjoy it to the full."
#play for today#the rank and file#single play#1971#bbc#ken loach#jim allen#peter kerrigan#bill dean#tommy summers#joan flood#johnny gee#mike hayden#bert king#neville smith#ernie mack#michael forrest#charlie barlow#bernard atha#an early surviving PfT from the very first season‚ reuniting writer Allen director Loach and much of the cast of a previous bbc play The#Big Flame (shown as part of The Wednesday Play in 1969). like Flame this is realistic docudrama dealing with recent industrial action#in this case the unofficial strike at Pilkington's glass works in St. Helens in 1970. both Allen and Loach would express some doubts about#this play in later years (chiefly that it is too closely centred on the specific event that inspired it; altho a nervous bbc insisted names#and locations be changed; without a wider view on the societal issues and workers' exploitation that had caused the strike to begin with)#but personally i think both were being overly harsh: this is a searing‚ infuriating indictment of a system which robbed honest men of their#work and of their reputations‚ backed by the mass media (who falsely reported the strike had been infiltrated by communists looking to#cause mischief; in fact there's evidence the real strike was infiltrated instead by the uk security services to smear the organisers)#and failed by a gutless Trades Union Congress. as tv drama‚ this isn't the most valuable example: it is necessarily dry in places‚ and the#steady pace and narrow focus don't lend themselves to great storytelling exactly. as social document and historical record‚ however?#this is absolutely invaluable and a stirring‚ affecting piece of television that cannot fail to make rail against the capitalist system
