1941 11 30 They Fough With What They Had - John Shaw
Late November, 1941, Clark Field, Philippine Islands…The U.S. Army Air Corps prepares for days of infamy ahead. As P-40 aircraft take to the skies, the crews of new B-17 Fortresses of the 19th Bomb Group prepare for the day’s practice missions. Mere days after this scene, Clark Field and other nearby U.S. bases would be savaged by enemy surprise attacks. Many would be taken prisoner, and some of those shown here, such as Colin Kelly and Harl Pease, would gain tragic fame. Among this gallant group were some of the first to inspire America at war, doing so much with so little, fighting with what they had.

My moist playlist! This man has energy and pizazz and a whole lot of stress. This is probably the Discworld playlist I listen to most cuz it's got lots of fun songs in it. Good for walking at a quick tempo to. Reasoning for the songs under the cut
Moist has massive massive ADHD (and keeps getting handed random drugs because everyone can tell he should be medicated but no one knows what with):
A Song for Joshua Hayward by Jessica Law
Senses Working Overtime by XTC
Hyperactive! by Thomas Dolby
Endicott by Kid Creole and the Coconuts (in the way that moist can't comprehend or function in a "normal" life very well)
Don't Stop Me Now by Queen
Limelight cover by Ninja Sex Party
Seven by Sleeping At Last
Applause by Lady Gaga
Moist and Adora vibes:
Sweet Tooth by Scott Helman
One Week by Barenaked Ladies
Mexican Wine by Fountains of Wayne
The Villain I Appear to Be by Conner Spiotto and Molly Pease
Death of a Bachelor by Panic! At The Disco
Voulez-Vous by ABBA
Once In A Life Time by Talking Heads
Take a Chance On Me by ABBA
Short skirt/Long Jacket by CAKE (massive adora vibes, truly)
C'mon by Fun.
Problems by Mother Mother
The Masochism Tango by Tom Lerher
Moist is also incredibly stressed and freaked out all the time:
I'm Scared by bill Wurtz
The Show Must Go On by Queen
Old Pine Box by TMBG
Money!!! :)))) and the fact that Moist doesn't really understand it even tho he's so good at getting it:
Stress by Jim's Big Ego
Why am I anxious? By Tom Cardy
Money by Bill Wurtz
Redesign your Logo by Lemon Demon
Selling Out by Tom Lerher
Money Money Money by ABBA
Money by Pink Floyd
How Bad Can I be from The Lorax (not gonna apologize for this)
Crime and cons!!! :)))) and it's consequences:
Black Friday by Steely Dan
Facade from Jekyll and Hyde
I Fought the Law by The Clash
Fox on the Run by Sweet
A Crow's Trial by Vane Lily
Sinnerman by Nina Simone
Smile! No One Cares How You Feel by The Gothic Archies
Moist avoids identity issues by not staying in any one identity long enough to become attached :
The Next Day by David Bowie
All Time What by TMBG
The Bidding by Tally hall
A Mask Of My Own Face by Lemon Demon
Grace Kelly by Mika
The Great Pretender by Freddie Mercury
Liar by the Arcadian Wilds

The Aragon/Cleves Curse: A History
INTRODUCTION
This is kind of a joke and kind of not. The Aragon/Cleves first cover combo has proved to be quite problematic for our alts! Today, I’ll be detailing every actress affected by this “curse” in any capacity.
VICTIM #1: SHEKINAH MCFARLANE West End Alternate, 15 August - 12 October 2019
(pic 2 - @/89samwithacam, pic 3 - @/bonniebritainphotography) Shekinah initially had second and third covers in her contract but only had enough time to rehearse her first covers because she was already casted as principal Cleves for the second UK Tour. Just the first of many who were denied debuts...
VICTIM #2: ELLA BURNS Australia Swing, 25 January to 5 March 2020
(pic 2 - promotional material, pic 3 - taken by cast member) Ella did cover all six roles, but she only got to debut Aragon and Cleves before the production shut down due to COVID-19. She also ended up being the only swing that didn’t return when the production re-opened. This example seems out of step with the others in this list, but it’s too big not to mention.
VICTIM #3: CASSANDRA LEE UK Tour Alternate, 24 October 2019 - 9 March 2022
(pic 2 - @/daisygalforgphotography, pic 3 - @/paigeleigh_photography) For the three years she was in the show, Cassy somehow only played her first covers despite both her fellow alternates on tour Jennifer Caldwell and Harriet Watson hitting swingo. This, allegedly, was by her own choice.
VICTIM #4: PAISLEY BILLINGS West End Alternate, 16 November 2021 - 16 October 2022
(pic 2 - @/daisygalforgphotography, pic 3 - @/snappy_six, pic 4 - @/mattpartphoto) Paisley is the first Aragon/Cleves alternate to debut a second cover: Parr. That was the only other cover she got to debut, however, and she was the only swalt to leave at cast change. Her fellow alternates, Roxanne Couch and Danielle Rose, got to do 5/6 and a swingo, respectively. Note that this was Paisley’s first musical theatre gig and it might have been her choice to stick to 3 debuts.
VICTIM #5: KELLY DENICE TAYLOR Broadway Standby, 22-27 June and 17-23 July 2022
(pic 2 - unknown, pics 3 & 4 - taken by cast) This is a tamer example, but Kelly (of the Aragon Tour) had gone on standby on Broadway two separate times. This first time, she only covered Aragon and Cleves. She never needed to go on that time. The second time around, she covered Aragon, Cleves, and Seymour. That time she ended up having to go on -- as Seymour.
VICTIM #6: GRACE MELVILLE UK Tour Alternate, 10 March 2022 - 23 April 2023
(pics 2 & 4 - @/isaacgrinnellphoto, pics 3 & 5 - taken by cast member) Our most recent victim is Grace, who is the first Aragon/Cleves alternate to debut both second covers - those being Boleyn and Parr. She, unfortunately, hit a snag early on in the tour with Aiesha Pease’s departure. In the time that Grace had to serve as temporary principal Cleves, Leesa already debuted both of her second covers! Grace had time to catch up when Jaina left and Leesa had to pull temporary principal Howard duty for a time, but eventually she still ended with 4/6. With Grace having played her last scheduled show just a couple days ago, yet another swingo has been denied.
POTENTIAL VICTIM #7: MONIQUE ASHE-PALMER West End Alternate, 18 October 2022 - Present
(pic 2 - @/snappy_six, pic 3 - unknown, pic 4 - @/myheartofstonexo, pic 5 - taken by cast member) And so I bring you to our latest A/C Alt, Miss Monique Ashe-Palmer of the West End cast. She actually has the most decent chances so far of subverting the curse, as we’re about halfway through the current cast’s run and she has debuted both second covers. However, she still does lag behind fellow newcomer alternate Leah Vassell in terms of debut dates and she has the least amount of shows performed among her cast. Time will tell how the curse treats our northern queen!
CONCLUSION
Now, I’m not calling Six racist, but something has to be said when every doomed A/C alt has been black. Six tends to typecast black women as Aragon and Cleves and that’s totally on them, but the curse part is obviously a series of unusual coincidences and not anyone’s fault -- I think. Regardless, it’s been very interesting to track these sorts of things and I might make similar posts like this in the future.

ANDREW LORD NAMED ECHL COACH OF THE YEAR
Fourth-year bench boss becomes first in both franchise and Greenville hockey history to receive recognition By: Mark Binetti, Greenville Swamp Rabbits GREENVILLE, SC—The ECHL announced today that Andrew Lord, Head Coach/General Manager of the Greenville Swamp Rabbits, a proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings, received the John Brophy Award as the ECHL's Coach of the Year. Lord, who finished as runner-up for the award in his first season in 2021, becomes the first coach in both franchise and Greenville professional hockey history to receive the league's honor. The John Brophy Award is presented annually to the ECHL coach who has contributed the most to his team's success. The coach is chosen by ECHL coaches, broadcasters, media relations directors, and media members. The trophy is named for John Brophy, who won a record three ECHL titles with Hampton Roads in 1991, 1992, and 1998 and was inducted into the ECHL Hall of Fame in 2009. This season, Lord guided the Swamp Rabbits to a 44-23-4-1 record and 93 points in the standings, claiming the organization's first South Division Championship in over a decade with a second straight 40-win campaign. Additionally, the Swamp Rabbits earned their 30th win of the season in just 42 games, the fastest pace ever in Greenville professional hockey history. They won eight straight road games from November 14th to December 9th, a new franchise record. By holding the highest win percentage in the Eastern Conference before the Christmas break, Lord was named one of two coaches of the ECHL All-Star Team for the 2024 ECHL All-Star Classic in January. "I'm extremely honored to receive this award from the ECHL. It's truly humbling," said Lord. "A recognition like this is a true testament to the organization that we have here in Greenville. From Assistant Coach Kyle Mountain, Video Coach River Pease, our support staff in Alec Muise and AJ Smith, our players, front office, and ownership, this is a collective effort and a true reflection of our culture and determination to be better both on the ice and in the community. I'm grateful to Jeff Dickerson, our owner, Todd Mackin, Tim Vieira, our President, and everyone who made this season possible. It's a true honor, and I'm thankful for the ECHL's recognition." Over four years in the Upstate, Lord has compiled a 155-94-30-9 record in 288 games, a 0.606 win percentage. He's led the Swamp Rabbits to the Kelly Cup Playoffs each season, reaching as far as the 2021 Eastern Conference Finals in his first campaign. "I couldn't be prouder of Andrew in receiving this honor from the ECHL. It is very much well deserved," said Todd Mackin, President of Spire Holdings. "It was apparent during our hiring process four years ago that Andrew had what it takes to transform our team into one of the most competitive in the entire ECHL. He tirelessly works with his staff to build a team that's worthy of representing our community and competing amongst the best in the league. Back-to-back 40-win seasons, postseason qualification each year, and over a dozen players promoted to the American Hockey League only scratches the surface of where his career trajectory will take him. We are grateful for everything he's done for our team, both on and off the ice. I look forward to watching him continue this excellence as he pursues our first Kelly Cup Championship as an organization." Before joining Greenville before the 2020-21 season, Lord led the Cardiff Devils of the Elite Ice Hockey League to nine separate titles, including three Conference championships, two Challenge Cup championships, two League titles, and two Playoff championships. As the winningest coach in Devils history, he led the team to a 221-75-22 record across his six seasons as head coach. Before entering the coaching ranks, Lord enjoyed a lengthy professional hockey career out of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). He spent ten seasons in the pro ranks, totaling 462 games. His best work as a pro was done in the EIHL, where he scored 173 points in 216 games, all with Cardiff. "Coach Lord epitomizes what it takes to be the best at his craft. The accountability and urgency he brings to our team make us better as an organization, not only on the ice, but off the ice and in the community," said Tim Vieira, Swamp Rabbits President. "Working with him is an immense privilege. His leadership of our men on the ice and our support staff has been evident from the very first day we worked together – and this recognition is a culmination of that dedication since day one. From coaching the ECHL All-Stars, to setting team records, and elevating everyone around him, there is no one more deserving of this honor." I can’t stop thinking about this scene:
Every time I watch it and Harry shouts “go buddy!” All I can think about is Kelly Rowland’s Motivation, specifically the first verse.
Now, I’m going off of memory here, so a word or two might be wrong.
“Go, go, go, go!
One lover, don’t you dare slow down.
Go longer, you can last more rounds.
Push harder, you’re almost there now.
So go lover, come on and make me proud.”
(Now, if it wasn’t obvious, if you aren’t at LEAST 15, pease don’t look this song up.)

I’ve seen your discussions on non-reveal Cleves costumes lately and how some of the cruise Cleves costumes were built as non-reveals, and I have a clarification question: do you know who had reveal costumes vs. who didn’t especially among the principal Cleves costume (knowing the black and silver Cleves costumes are non-reveals already). Thanks, and loving the blog!
Hey! Yes I do! So some of the casts still use the open jacket style, but as far as the closed jacket style goes.... Has a reveal: - UK production principals - UK production alts with red Cleves costumes - US production principals + understudies Does not have a reveal: - Cruise principals or alts - Black or silver swings
There have been two scenarios where one member of a cast has reveal and one does not: - In the 2019-2021 WE cast, Lexi McIntosh received a closed reveal style for the 2020 reopening. However, Cherelle Jay and Collette Guitart were still in alt costumes, so they continued to use the usual open jacket. - In the current UKT cast, both the original principal (Aiesha Naomi Pease) and the alt (Grace Melville) received the closed jacket reveal style. However, Aiesha departed the show, and Jessica Niles replaced her. Jessica has been wearing her old Breakaway 2.0 costume with an open jacket.
So... - Lexi McIntosh, Dionne Ward-Anderson, Aiesha Naomi Pease, Paisley Billings, Grace Melville, Brittney Mack, Nicole Kyoung-Mi Lambert, Keirsten Hodgens, Olivia Donalson, Kelly Denice Taylor, and Cassie Silva have a reveal - Kennedy Carstens, Channing Weir, Sasha Renae Brown, Kayla McSorley, Natalie Pilkington (black), Rachel Rawlinson, Esme Rothero, and Harriet Caplan-Dean do not have a reveal
Hope that helps!

Six Weekly Recap for Week of 2/28-3/7
Hey! So there's definitely a lot to cover this week in terms of news.
I'll go by production.
We definitely had an eventful week at Six West End. Firstly, Esme and Rachel's Cleves and Howard debuts were cancelled, due to falling ill. Danielle also fell ill, so Roxanne Couch debuted as her second cover, Howard in her absense. Natalie Pilkington and Harriet Watson came over from the UK Tour to cover for two days. Natalie played Aragon and Harriet played both Seymour and Cleves. Courtney Bowman came back to cover Anne Boleyn for the evening show on March 6.
Vicki Manser played her final performance (for now) as Katherine Howard on the UK Tour on March 6. Lauren Drew, Maddison Bulleyment, Caitin Tipping, Shekinah McFarlane, Harriet Watson and Elena Gyasi will all play their final performance at the evening show on March 9. On March 10, Chlöe Hart, Jennifer Caldwell, Casey Al-Shaqsy, Aeisha Pease, Jaina Brock-Patel and Alana M. Robinson will play their first performances as principals for the UK Tour.
Abby Mueller and Mallory Maedke have both been on vacation, so Keirsten Hodgens has been playing Jane Seymour for the past week. On March 6, Courtney Mack debuted as Catherine Parr on Broadway, finishing her final debut for her main three covers. On March 13, Anna Uzele will play her final performance as Catherine Parr and on March 14, Joy Woods will play her first performance as Catherine Parr. **UPDATE** According to Playbill.com, Keri Rene Fuller is Jane Seymour right now…what
As far of the US Aragon Tour Alternates, I believe this is the official list of who they cover:
Erin Ramirez: Alt. Boleyn/Howard/Parr (CONFIRMED)
Kelsee Sweigard: Alt. Aragon/Seymour/Parr (CONFIRMED)
Cassie Silva: Alt. Seymour/Cleves/Howard (Howard Confirmed, Cleves and Seymour by process of elimination)
Kelly Denice Taylor: Alt. Aragon/Boleyn/Cleves (Aragon Confirmed, was seen wearing spacebuns during rehearsal, Cleves by process of elimination)

Among this gallant group were some of the first to inspire America at war, doing so much with so little, fighting with what they had.The painting was completed in 2001. It was commissioned by well-known aviation art collector Eugene Eisenberg, whose impressive collection of original military and aviation and maritime oil paintings is one of the world’s largest and finest. Mr. Eisenberg had a special interest in the individuals he desired to see depicted in this scene, even though not all are well-known names, and through diligent research was able to supply wartime photos of many of them to assist the artist in what was to become a mammoth 10’ by 5’ oil painting. Each person in the scene was created from the likeness of one of the men present at Clark Field at this time.
