More Flower Rook:
🌸
(apologies for the sketchy response but that's what my brain wants to do rn I'll try to do more with these nerds eventually. 🌸Does your Rook have any siblings or close friends they see as such? Where are they during the events of Veilguard? So, growing up in Rivain, Marra's best friends were Bet (they/he) and Beryl (she/her) Bet got his nickname for his fondness for low stakes schemes and cons, simple things like shell games and the like. Beryl's mother was a Seer and she inherited her magic but didn't spend much time on learning to communicate with spirits as deftly, she managed to live up to her given name by constantly collecting gems and jewels and precious metals at any given opportunity. They're relatively safe these days, Beryl joined the Lords of Fortune at the FIRST opportunity. She was out on assignments for most of the events of Veilguard but often left notes and souvenirs for Marra when she missed her. Bet runs a semi-legitimate shop in Dairsmuid and hasn't seen Marra in a while but would buy her several drinks and ply her for stories of everything that's happened since she left if given half a chance. When Marra left to join the Dalish Clans, she made fast friends with Kellan, a rather relaxed seeming mage of no small talent, but a third mage in the clan, which already had a Keeper and First, but remained with his birth clan as they knew of no other clan in present need, so he waited for a need to arise, but as clans settled in Arlathan, such delineations became less needed. He joined the Veil jumpers with Marra out of mostly a desire to see more of their strange new home, and because Marra more or less dragged him along. They met Irevas there, a crafter and scholar who eventually became one of the group that oversaw, studied, and guarded the vaulted and archived artifacts. No mage, but a quick study and a sharp mind and a gift for deciphering how things were constructed, built and crafted. Kellan and Irevas fell in love over the years tho the trio were so inseparable it took most ages to sort out who was seeing who. Kellan was with Marra on the mission that landed her in so much hot water with Strife and lead her to joining up with Varric. He was in direct danger as he tried to soothe a wild and malfunctioning artifact and Marra shielded him bodily, throwing him out of the way when it went off. He was relegated to fetch quests and spare duties throughout various Jumper camps as punishment for trying to stand up for Marra after the incident, and she didn't get to se much of him throughout the events of Veilguard, though she made a point to find both of her friends once or twice when time allowed. enjoy

Ok mtg moots, I am so fucking excited! As background info, I'm going to a standard tournament with a couple friends on the 21st of december and yesterday evening, I looked over my decklist with one of them. We did some tweaks, finished the sideboard, but ultimately couldnt quite finish it. I said I was gonna playtest it a bit and maybe find a ratio of combo "finders" and payoffs that works. I feel like at this point is a good idea to explain what my deck does. The idea of the deck is the cheat out [Omniscience] as early as possible by milling it and then casting [Abuelo's Awakening] or by using [Kellan Joins Up] to plot a [Bramble Familiar] and then cast the [Fetch Quest] for free the turn after. With Omniscience on the field, I can do whatever I want, right, but I opted for playing things like [Atraxa, Grand Unifier], [Valgavoth, Terror Eater] and multiple [Rune-Scarred Demon]s. Now my "issue" was that I didnt just want to make a big board of flyers, I wanted to kill my opponent the same turn, so i put in [Surrak and Goreclaw] to give my stuff haste. The issue with that is that surrak and goreclaw need to be on the board before the rest of the threats, which is annoying. So I experimented with putting in [Imodane's Recruiter] so I can go demon into demon into demon into demon into recruiter. That also proved to not be very reliable though as I often just mill over the recruiter and then cant get him back onto the board. So, after some scryfall searches to find better alternatives, I had an epiphany: I can play [Rakdos Joins Up] and [Hulking Metamorph]. If i reanimate Rakdos joins up qith abuelos, then reanimate the metamorph with rakdos joins up, the metamorph can copy rakdos joins up, dies bc of the legend rule, reanimates itself, rinse and repeat until the rakdos joins up kills the opponent with its second effect. The best part about this though, is that that doesnt need to be what I go for 100% of the time. I can still just abuelos on the rakdos joins up to get like an atraxa back, or i can still abuelos an omniscience and vomit out big threats. Furthetmore, I can play more "aggressive" cards that search for my combo pieces, meaning stuff like [Founding the Third Path] with just mills and only gets back instant sorceries, not permanents like the kellan joins up or the bramble familiar. I can play such cards because abuelos is the only card i need in my hand, the rest can go to the yard. And then I askef myself, what to do if abuelos gets countered or milled over with fetch quest. While founding the third path is an obvious choice here, i also became fond of the [Daring Waverider], which can cast abuelos from my graveyard on etb for free! I cant wait to get home so I can work out the details, I'll send the decklist when i'm finished!

Would you agree that Rakdos was underutilized in the OTJ story? It seems to me that with a wide cast that some of the side characters were just 'present'. Tinybones and the Cecanis each had a role, but what did Eriette contribute that wasn't related to Kellan?
I've been privately saying that the heist crew was far too wide during the story progression, and I still believe that. A good chunk of the characters are only relevant when a keyhole shaped exactly like them happens to show up, and do nothing else.
Rakdos in specific is kept back for most of the action because of the stark raw power difference between a giant demon Ravnican Parun and a random wizard.
With that said, it's not just a subjective thing. Every bit of material except the story and showcase frames supports that it was written for a much smaller crew. The trailer, promotional art, card art with the entire crew, and line up of "X joins up" enchantments all focus on a much smaller group, which was probably the intended one. Annie, Kellan, Vraska, Tinybones, Rakdos, and of course Oko himself as ringleader.
Half the size, and probably would have been much more manageable, the other characters felt mostly included as a wink to have the "Hey, you've heard that name before". (or add an irrelevant connection to the start of the arc, in Eriette's case).
As much as I like the Cecani, that same side story of theirs would have worked just as well if it hadn't been connected to the main plot.

Edmund accompanied Rosalyn on a walk through the garden, unsure what to make of the request from his parents. He presumed they were trying to find him a companion with a similar upbringing because he never brought any home, making the notion more peculiar and slightly discomfiting.
Rosalyn walked beside him at her own pace. Edmund’s steps fell into hers and he shifted as she shamelessly studied him. Finally, she disrupted the tension by speaking. “I was nervous at first when Daddy sent me over here, but you’re quite easy on the eyes.” She glanced at him once more due to his silence. “Something the matter?”
“No, Miss Kellan.”
“Hm… I was beginning to wonder about your manners… You can call me Rosalyn.”
“You said your father sent you here? To meet with my father?”
“No. I was sent to meet you.”
Edmund frowned. “I don’t understand.”
The coy smile on Rosalyn’s lips fell with a sigh. She ceased walking and spun to face him directly. “You haven’t the faintest idea of why I’m here?” He replied with his silence. “Our fathers are trying to arrange us… together.”
Edmund would’ve laughed at the implication if not for her sobriety. “Why would they do that?”
“Daddy wants me to marry soon. It seems yours does, as well…” Her eyebrows creased at Edmund’s bewilderment. “Your parents didn’t tell you anything? You didn’t wonder why we’ve been sent on this walk?”... “Your ignorance is baffling. It’s good you’re handsome.”
“You’re misunderstood-”
“I am not.” She was almost offended. “Your daddy’s bank’s tanking is what everyone ‘round here’s hearing. Owens Banking didn’t take too much of a hit during the crash, but regional stock exchanges are closing and limiting trading. The only reason it’s still standing is luck.” Her words carried a lightness to them, which was okay because Edmund took her words just as lightly.
“Where are you hearing this nonsense from? Your father tell you all that?”
Rosalyn sneered. “Nonsense? You and your daddy don’t talk business? It’s all we talk about.”
“You’re lying.”
“Why would I lie to you? I don’t know you.”
“That’s exactly it. We don’t know each other. Why would we marry?”
Rosalyn grew mildly agitated with how little he knew. “Marriage is a partnership whether it’s love or business,” she declared. “When we wed, our families’ companies merge and improve profitability. If it’s love you’re focused on, I’m sure you’d fall for me over time, of course, but I’ve been preparing to marry for the sake of my family’s management since I was a child. I’m stunned you haven’t. Your father is interested in joining the railroad industry - I hope he’s told you that much - and he’ll need Daddy to do so. I’m aware ya’ll don’t talk business. Perhaps you do talk money? You know how much money that’ll make him?” She enunciated her words slowly as if she were talking down to him - as if he was a child.
“We’re well off.” Edmund’s assertiveness faltered at her mocking laugh.
“Not well enough, apparently.” Her eyes sized him up before she released another sigh. “We’d need complementary skill sets, of course - especially if you plan to inherit your father’s assets, which you’ll have to do when you marry me. I’m an exceptional speaker with a remarkable understanding of Daddy’s business. I learned everything from him. You don’t go into your father’s office very often, do you?”
Edmund withered. He knew his father’s bank was doing exceptionally - at least he believed so. His father was planning to fund the construction of the second Owens Banking in a neighboring town. He wasn’t sure how she’d come of this news, whether her father was lying to her, or his father hadn’t told him everything. What he did know was that before this conversation he had no concerns for the future of his family’s enterprise.
Rosalyn sensed his internal conflict, and he was well aware. “Why don’t you talk to your father? Although, I suppose he’s ashamed if he hasn’t spoken to you about it already.”
He’d never been so discouraged before, nonetheless by a woman who was younger than him.
“I hear you’re going to college,” she remarked. “Burying your nose in those books may prepare you to run your family’s legacy. Might I suggest you use that time to come to a decision?”

Got tagged by the awesome @onthewaytosomewhere
I was a bit trepidatious because this was categorized as smutty and I don’t typically write smut…😏😏😏 Buuuuut as fate would have it, I have a project that I’m working on that just so happens to have a smutty scene in it. Cheers, yall!
Any day that started with a threesome was a great day for Alex. Granted, that was how he ended the previous night, getting off work at Maxine’s and leaving with a couple from California. The girl Marie and her partner Kellan spent the entire night hitting on him. What else could he do? After texting one of his roommates his whereabouts, he joined them in their room at the Hotel Hale on Bathhouse Row. It felt decadent, falling asleep in a $300-a-night room and waking to a blow job from a randy tourist. He looked down to find Kellan hard at work (pun fully intended). Marie curled up against his side and gave him a sultry kiss.
“Morning, handsome.”
Alex reached between her legs and found her already slick. Teasing her with his fingers, he asked, “Did you two start without me?”
“Perhaps but you can finish with us,” she moaned against his lips.
Yup, today was going to be a great day.
Alex is such a slutty (affectionate) chaos gremlin in this story, and I cannot wait for yall to meet him.
Tagging @priincebutt and anyone else who wants to play!

Early Spring 1892
Diary Entry of Edmund Stallings - Reflection of Winter 1891
January 5, 1892
While winter break began with a quiet promise of rest and reflection, I found it more stressful than it should have been. On December 15, I returned home for the break. I had spent the last few days eagerly packing for home. I was excited to see my family again. Kellan had been sitting with me in my room while I packed. We spoke of trivial matters—classes, the upcoming holidays, the dullness of school. Kellan had seemed unusually quiet and not as loud during our discussions, although he normally loved gossiping about our classmates.
I had just pulled on my coat and invited Kellan to join me on my short walk to the station when I felt the mood shift. He stood there for a moment while I grabbed my bag. I repeated my question but he didn't seem to hear it, like he was miles away. Without a word, he stepped closer and pulled me to him. I grabbed onto him to steady myself when he pressed his lips to mine. It was fleeting, barely there for a second but long enough that I knew what it meant. I felt warm from head to toe but before I could decide what to do, he pulled away. He quickly left the room with only a whispered apology in his place. Leaving me alone with only my thoughts and cold feeling rattling me.
I just made it to the station in time to catch the train home. When I arrived back at my house, Mayme was there to great me. There was no sign of her husband or her children, which was not like her but they had been through a great deal lately. She had started wearing her hair up and had resorted back to the bows she had worn during our childhood. Perhaps all the stress was messing with her.
The rest of the break had gone well, despite the dread looming over me like a cloud. My family’s holiday celebrations were as splendid as ever. Mother and Father had not changed, radiant with seasonal cheer as usual. We exchanged our gifts on Christmas and no one commented when Mayme's gifts were smaller than last year.
I was stuck in the motions. Every question about college made me think of Kellan. Every present reminded me of Kellan's interests. I found my thoughts pulling back to him. How was he spending his time with family? Was he thinking about me?
I welcomed the new year thinking about Kellan. I had to get answers when I returned to campus. There was nothing to do now other than enjoy the rest of my time with family.
-Edmund

CHARACTER INFORMATION
face claim: Lily James
full name: Kacey Newman
nickname(s) / goes by: Kace, Kay, Kiwi
pronouns & gender: she/her & cis woman

birth date: December 24th, 1990
birth place: Merrock, Maine
arrival to merrock: Local
housing: Downtown
occupation: Photographer
family: siblings - Kellan and Cage (older), Clementine (younger), Husband (separated), Daisy Clarke (daughter)

PERSONALITY
In contrast to some, Kacey is reserved and practical. Her brand of love is simple and unfiltered, but kept close to her chest. Her reticence isn't built from a lack of confidence though, and she has a deep pride for Merrock, her family, and the farm. She is typically the voice of reason in any conversation, but can be taken in by her passions like anyone else.
WRITTEN BY: Clare (she/her), est.
BIO / BACKGROUND
triggering / sensitive content: parental death
As far as early Christmas gifts go for young boys, Kacey hoped she was ranked somewhere between action figures and lego sets. She arrived at the Newman farm without fuss and into an expanding family. Love was plentiful growing up, as immeasurable as the blueberries they sold during high season. And, while Kacey existed in the middle of it all, she never fully joined the chaos. When she was still very young, her mother passed. What was left were memories blurred at the edges, sepia bleeding over the colors. She grew a little faster and a lot quieter after that day.
In school, Kacey was an excellent student. She received some ribbing from classmates for being a teacher's pet, but nothing that she couldn't shake off. After all, she had two bigger and louder brothers. For her eighth birthday, on the advice of a friend and in the hopes that his 'Kiwi' would open more, Kacey's father bought her a camera. She wasn't an unhappy kid, far from it, but she had the tendency to clam up when things got rough. The silent treatment, paired with a steady glare, could unnerve grown men.
It turned out to be the right move. There was a whole new language between a lense and a subject. Where the girl had been bordering on timid before, she bloomed into the worst kind of tyrant. Her favorite and first subjects were always her siblings and soon enough she wore them thin with requests. A posed shoot in the blueberry fields, or by the coastline, or in front of the post office, or even when they were brushing their teeth. In time, she was fluent in aspect ratios and cases, and had converted half her closet into a makeshift dark room.
In high school, she was the photographer for the school newspaper. It was at a football game that she first connected with Samuel Clarke. He was a trombone player in the marching band. She slipped a photo of him, instrument in hand, between the grates of his locker and the rest was history. Those who didn't know Kacey were were ripe in the belief that she was dispassionate. In truth, she could be as resolute and stubborn as a brick wall. She decided before graduation that Sam was going to be it for her. Even when she got into art school and moved two state lines away, she worked hard to keep her relationship steady.
That resolve placed her at a magazine in Portland straight out of college. It saw her through buying a condo and getting married. Though she lived away from Merrock, Kacey was a constant visitor. When the first blueberries ripened in April, she'd be there to help with the harvest. When Kellan was on the field she'd was there with her camera in hand, when Clem graduated she was in the stands cheering, and when her nephew was born she snapped some of the first photos. Newborn photography would, in time become a staple of her career. But for a while she reveled in being young and married and living in the biggest city in Maine. It was only when Sam and her decided to start a family that things changed. After a decade living elsewhere, Kacey knew there was only one place she wanted to raise her kids.
Her daughter Daisy was born, twenty-nine years later, in the same hospital room as Kacey. Mixed into those happiest of days was the loss of her father. All her life, she'd known him as a lighthouse. Without him there as a guide things started to slip. Motherhood was a slippery thing beyond even her own iron grasp. She felt like a failure when she couldn't soothe her child or understand her tears. She poured more effort into her career and opening her own studio. She started photographing weddings and births and retirement parties. At least in this, the steady click and focus, she had control. She confided in her siblings, leaned on them and in the midst of it all her relationship began to slide.
They held on for years but, not long after a disastrous third birthday party for Daisy, they agreed a trial separation was for the best. Sam moved into an apartment a few blocks away. Thirty-two years on, Kacey finally had to admit she'd bent to the chaos.

BASICS
Character Name: Kellan Griffin
Character Age & Birthday: 33 years old, October 26th
Hometown: Boston, MA
Pre-2024 Occupation: Finance Bro
Current Role: Guard
Current Time with Group: Nov 2024
Immunity Status: Immune and knows it but doesn’t know what it means
DETAILS
PAST
Kellan grew up a typical rich kid from Boston. His family was close enough but it was mostly his brothers keeping him out of too much trouble and in line with the family plan: everyone being part of the family firm. His parents gave various positions but Kel never felt quite suited to the suit and tie life. Still, it was easy enough to fall in line because of the lifestyle it provided. Before the end of everything, he would bide his time from one boring meeting to another before letting loose at company-sponsored dinners and exclusive access to the best spots in town. Of course, living this way would eventually bite him in the ass.
JANUARY 2024
Kel was on a golf course in Palm Springs (yes, that golf course), drinking with some buddies and prospective clients. He was doing quite well too (best he’d played all week). But then people started attacking each other and it all went to shit. Somewhere at the back of his mind was the thought that his parents would be pissed he ended up killing a prospective big fish, but it was the least of his concerns at the time.
He swung his golf clubs when the rabid fucker came for him and then got the hell out of dodge with a buddy, absconding with the golf cart as ZOMBIES trailed after them. Thankfully they were slow but what he didn’t count on was a guest’s dog! To come racing after them, rabid as fuck. It bit Kellan in the leg before his friend killed it. Practically crying (think Draco Malfoy with the Hippogriff LOL), thinking he was gonna lose his leg, Kel and his friend hid out in one of the staff quarters of the resort.
No one was more surprised than Kellan to wake up the next day. But he did and the journey continued. He and his friend stole a Range Rover and loaded up the back with whatever they could grab before more zombies continued after them. And off they went. Their goal was to get out of Florida, especially when they encountered their first zombie alligator.
Over the next year, Kel traveled far and wide, somehow surviving despite all odds. A spoiled rich asshole, with no practical life skills and a talent for stirring strife, he didn’t prefer working with other groups but he and his friend quickly realized that it was best to join up when they could, sneaking away in the middle of the night with whatever they could grab.
Throughout these months Kellan was unlucky enough to get bitten not once, not twice, not even three but four times by zombies at different encounters. Each night, he swore it would be his last and then he’d wake up the next day and think maybe they didn’t bite him hard enough.
In November 2024, he and his friend didn’t realize that they’d been trailed by zombies (and a scarlet beast that had been tracking them) , eventually leading them to a small group of survivors (a) that they encountered and convinced to take them in. This led to most of the group dying, including Kel’s friend. As ever, he dipped when things got dicey, fighting his way to the nearest car (having lost the Range Rover a few months ago) and getting away before anyone could stop him.
Shortly thereafter he met the group (b) and showed them all the supplies he had to share (courtesy of group a stocking the car), and was brought on when he told his story of woe (they’d been asleep! Some people were sick! And suddenly there were zombies everywhere! Not: oh we were too busy playing FMK with probably-dead celebrities that we didn’t notice the small group of zombies that trailed us or the fucking scarlet beast that was hiding amongst them!)
NOW
Now, Kellan has been in the group for about two months and he’s a scout. For all his failings, he’s quite good at seeing opportunities and assessing risk versus reward when it comes to supplies. He’s kept his close calls private, feeling like maybe it’s not best to talk about how he’s gotten bit a bunch of times (mostly because he doesn’t want people to think he’s useless and not at all because he thinks it’s a concerning fact that he’s survived). He also doesn’t say that he and his friend were responsible for a bunch of people dying recently. If anything, he pretends to be a team player since this is the most organized group he’s found and having experience assessing risk vs reward, Kel thinks that sticking with them will be worth it in the end. Especially if it gets him to LA and one of his family’s luxury apartments.
PERSONALITY
Kellan knows what he wants and thinks and doesn’t shy away from it. He’ll assert himself from the start, even taking risks if necessary. He’s direct and to the point, a bit blunt and rude at times but mostly he’d rather just speak his mind and if someone can’t handle it then that’s too bad. He is, however, quite unpredictable in his actions and in his mood, oscillating from pleasant and laid back to short-tempered and sharp. He’s tampered that down of late but sometimes people really test him and he has to work harder.
WEAPONS
Golf Club - he’s got his clubs but uses his driver most. It’s been pretty effective in bashing in zombie heads.
Beretta M9 – he found in the glove compartment of the car he stole from the last group he was with. (he’s had other guns but this has become a recent favorite)
RELIC
Family ring that he got on his 18th birthday. It’s been useful in fights with people.
CONNECTIONS
Tate Stone – A chaotic friend who reminds him of the friend he lost. Neither knows the other is immune, but they’re both unluckily lucky and fall together in that sense. Also, they’re both telling lies so kinda shady there.
Rory Hayes & Seraphina Sinclair - He's been flirting with them since he joined, offering his protective services if they ever need it. Needless to say, they've not taken him up on the offer but he's nothing if not persistent.
Potential Connection: Someone who survived from group A and blames Kellan/threatens to tell they group he got their friends killed.

Just finished watching American Dragon: Jake Long to commemorate the 20th anniversary (which isn't for a few weeks, but I couldn't wait!)
ADJL was a HUGE part of my life back in the day. The ADJL Fan Forum was the very first message board I ever joined and the first fandom community I joined, and the very first fanfiction I posted on FanFiction.net was an ADJL fanfiction.
The ADJLFF was a wild bunch of people. We had so much fun making OCs and creating fanfiction and fanart, coming up with theories, playing games, chatting, roleplaying...
Sigh. Fond memories.
My own OCs were Leah Bension. She was called a Supernatural (I completely made that title up. And I didn't realize there was a show called Supernatural) with healing, telepathy, and telekinesis (I didn't realize I basically made her a Jedi. I'm surprised no one called me out on that. lol). I originally made her Rose's long-lost twin, but then I realized it might be a little Mary-Sue-ish (Yeah, yeah, I know- Oh, but her superpowers aren't?), so I just made her Rose's best friend. Irony of ironies, Rose does indeed have a twin!
Another one was an actual dragon: Benjiro (Kind of regretting that name, though. Long story.) Kishi- the Japanese Dragon (Ironically, there is a Japanese Dragon on the dragon council, but it's female). He is from Bethesda, MD; his dad's job transferred the family to NYC. He became Leah's boyfriend.
One more was Michelle, a witch with a personal vendetta against the Dark Dragon, for the DD killed her family. She became friends with Jake and his friends.
I made two or three more who were loosely based on the characters from Avatar: The Last Airbender: Kate, Tibby, and Aaron.
The other OCs my friends made from what I can remember are Kellan, a.k.a. IronHand (he had a metal hand which he can use to control metal objects), also a member of the Huntsclan and Rose's best friend; Cat, Raffi, Ari, Kevin, Liam (who somehow made an annoying clone I can't remember the name of now), Travis (the Dark Dragon's son and Leah's first boyfriend), Brandon (Michelle's boyfriend, and the Floridian Dragon (Who knew Jake's mom's side of the family actually lived in Florida?! Another freakish coincedence.), Veronika, and Ashleigh, an alchemist with a curse (kind of a FullMetalAlchemist thing).
Yep. Those were the days!
Anyway, about the show itself, I didn't realize there were quite a few Star Wars references (and Harry Potter references) there were. Holy shit.
And speaking of Star Wars, when I saw The Force Awakens for the first time, and Finn was telling Rey he was taken by the First Order when he was a baby, I got Rose being kidnapped by the Huntsclan flashbacks!
And Star Wars Resistance came along. Kaz, Tam, and Neeku low-key reminded me of Jake, Trixie, and Spud! And there's Torra, the child prodigy with buns (pigtails in Haley's case), and Synara with a similar hairstyle as Huntsgirl, who left the pirates.
TL:DR ADJL was a big part of my life and continued to be even when I left the fandom.

Hart Legacy Recap - Gen 3, Part 3
Now a young adult, Holly wasted no time in getting out of her childhood home- the beautiful old tudor house in Windenburg had seen better days, but the price was fantastic and she wasn't one to look a gift horse in the mouth.
She also became a paranormal investigator, following her passion into her very first successful gig. It was easier than she'd expecting, coaxing ghosts free from this plane and destroying cursed dolls.
Although, something about her own house left the hairs on the back of her neck on edge... which she assumed must have been from the old owners, surely...?
For a while her life was a steady flow of work and maintaining the ghostly presence at home, right up until she decided every haunted house needs a black cat- whom she dubbed Pickles. She is the real main character of this story. Look at those giant eyes. I love her.
Moving on (reluctantly), Holly finally met one of the resident ghosts- Guidry- who offered his services whenever she may need them.
With his advice, she was quick to begin rising in her career, but one night of a particularly successful investigation, she headed out to drink and dance at the local nightclub and recognized a familiar face in the crowd...
She tapped Kellan on the shoulder, and was surprised when they immediately seemed to pick up where they'd left off, with Holly tentatively offering a date by the end of the evening. She was even more surprised when he said yes.
brief Pickles interlude because she aged up too. I cannot overstate how obsessed I am with this cat.
The date went well, and all too soon they were laughing, kissing, and singing karaoke like no time had passed at all.
Harvestfest swept in, and Holly traveled back to Copperdale to see her family- Kellan couldn't join her, both because the Landgraab's had another event planned, and because they weren't sure if they were ready to openly announce their getting back together yet. And by the end of the night, Tricia had accepted a proposal and revealed news of her own: she and Luke were expecting, and now engaged!
The rest of the year came with good news and bad- Kellan had come over to spend the night for the first time and got the Pickles seal of approval, but Lilah died just days after Harvestfest and his night over turned into staying the weekend, offering Holly a shoulder to lean on and a friend to talk with.

TASK #21 LET’S GO TO WORK
What does your character do for a living?
Wood. Cage is a trained and certified carpenter who runs and operates a carpentry and construction business that specializes in the use for reclaimed wood to make furniture and home goods and the restoration of historic / old homes and buildings.
How long have they been doing that job?
His entire life, to some degree. Cage joined a construction crew immediately after high school, but he wasn't able to open his own company and business until 2019.
What made them decide to go into that career / job?
He wanted to work with his hands. Growing up, he was constantly helping his dad on the farm, and while picking blueberries was fine, Cage found himself enjoying the stuff where he had to get dirty. He wanted to be out fixing fences, he wanted to be out mending the barns, he liked making old things new again.
What is their favorite thing about their job?
Taking something that everyone else has given up on and finding a way to make it beautiful. Sometimes that means taking an old house and restoring it back to its original shape, and other times, if it's too far gone, that means taking the wood that made it and finding another purpose for it.
Also, his storage unit. Having something full of old furniture, fixtures and pieces he wants to use again feels like heaven.
What is their least favorite thing about their job?
There's a lot. Walking through a house and seeing those fake wood, gray floors actually makes his skin crawl, for example. He also hates the stigma around old houses. Yes, it might take more money to restore them than to buy a new build, but if you do the work right, your house is going to be around forever.
What was the first job that they ever had?
Blueberry picker and dad's best boy (sorry Kellan) when it came to fixing things. Paying job, though, was when he hit the road and worked construction with a crew.
What jobs have they worked since then?
Cage worked on the road from graduation in 2004 until spring of 2009, doing odd construction jobs, traveling with crews, building houses, and generally causing a ruckus. Returning to Merrock, he worked odd handyman and construction jobs and became the lead foreman for Bardales Inc. from 2009 until he started his own business in 2019.
What was their favorite job that they’ve ever had?
The one that he has right now. It isn't just the fact that he's his own boss (although that's definitely a perk), but he has a good crew that works for him, and he gets to do something that he loves, something that he's proud of.
What was their least favorite job that they’ve ever had?
As a whole, the traveling construction gig, for about a hundred reasons. But in specific, building that ugly glass house that his ex is living in with her new husband and kids down in Connecticut.
Growing up, what was their dream job?
Cage always felt like his entire life was sort of laid out for him: graduate, marry Cordelia, have six kids, run the family's blueberry farm. The Cordelia and family part were his dream, the blueberry farm terrified him. His dream was always to build, to fix, to renew.
What is their dream job now?
Basically what he's doing now. It just took him a while to get there.
Be honest – does your character enjoy their job?
With his entire heart. He doesn't humor the idea of ever doing anything different, either.
Does your character plan on retiring as soon as they can, or will they continue working?
Cage will never retire. Cordelia is going to have to pry him off of a ladder someday. He might scale back his hours out on job sites once he's a great-great grandfather, but he'll probably always run his business as long as there are customers who want him to.
Have they ever been fired from a job?
Absolutely. There were several instances in his late teen, early twenty years where he was fired from jobs for showing up late or hungover. The work was never shoddy, so they'd always bring him back on, or it never actually impacted his career (as much as it could be on the road), but he definitely got his ass handed to him a few times. Looking back, he knows it's because he hated the work.
Do they think that their job is rewarding?
Yes. Getting to create pieces for people out of wood that would otherwise go to waste, knowing that they have something they can love for a long time, makes him feel like he's doing something good with his time. And if he can take an old house that's seen better days and remind it of them, then he feels like he's done a good service there, too. It just sometimes takes a while to get to the reward.
