you should absolutely read the song of the lioness series it is soooo fun. i adored the books as a child and reread within the last year and i think they were still very enjoyable. i feel like the first book might have more of a juvenile tone than the first book of the protector of the small series but she definitely matures by the end of book 1 if that’s off putting to you. alanna was 100% the fictional character i aspired to most as a child because she’s cool and magic and a swordswoman and has purple eyes etc. etc.

My current BG3 run is a good time. Playing a trans dude Drow Durge who’s a Devotion Paladin and who DESPERATELY wants to believe that he can use his Oath and his Paladin-ness to fix whatever this “sickness” is inside him.

Kellyn (Kel) is also very desperate to believe that Astarion is 100% telling the truth about wanting him SOO desperately, that he means it when he says “my love,” so on and so forth.

Kel is in Act 1. We’re just doing the tiefling party. Bless his little cotton socks, he is deluded. But if his Magical Healing Pussy can fix Astarion, maybe he can also fix??? Himself???

Anyway the act 2 confession (I’ll be running things so he gets the post-Yurgir “nice, simple plan” scene instead of the Araj scene) is going to be a huge wake up call for him. GOOD TIMES.

Heeeeeeeeeeeey guys, how's it going, is everyone getting cautiously stoked for Veilguard I'm getting cautiously stoked for Veilguard BUT IN THE MEANTIME I finally got Baldur's Gate 3 over the summer and have been very busy injecting that directly into my veins while not saying a word about it on this blog because every time I sit down at my laptop and go "okay I'm gonna play a little BG3 and then maybe I'll do some other stuff like edit and post some screenshots of my BG3 OCs" I instead play BG3 for a minimum of three hours and then am shocked, shocked to discover I haven't gotten anything else done.

BUT, right now I PHYSICALLY CANNOT play BG3 because Patch 7 is downloading, which has freed me to to Other Things on Computer, sooooo here are some Tavs! Well, two Tavs and a Durge.

Saffria, she/her, first Tav and still the Tav of my heart. High half-elf, wild magic sorcerer, Urchin background, Chaotic Good (look I don't care that the game doesn't give you an official alignment I'm a veteran D&D player I'm aligning them). Generally pretty noble/heroic but not above a bit of light chicanery, especially when it comes to cool magic items. Or food. Your unattended food items are not safe around her. Noteworthy talents include being able to talk anyone into anything (she has too much Charisma, someone stop her, lives have been ruined), having just so many hilarious wild magic surges at the worst possible moment (ask her about the time she turned everyone into dogs while Shadowheart was dying), and being the perfect height to receive forehead kisses from Halsin. Romanced Astarion and Halsin, post-game she and (unascended) Astarion go adventuring together looking for a way for him to be in the sun again, but will occasionally go check on the vampire spawn in the Underdark or drop in on Halsin and stay with him for a while.

Briony, she/her, high elf, Oath of Ancients paladin, Outlander background, Neutral Good. Second Tav I made because a) I wanted to play as an Ancients paladin (one of my very favorite D&D subclasses) and b) I wanted to romance Halsin with an Ancients paladin. Managed to actually develop a pretty close friendship with Astarion despite being a goody-two-shoes paladin. Enjoys annoying the shit out of evildoers shortly before she smites them. Post-game, she settles down with Halsin but maybe still goes off on the occasional adventure now and then.

Kelimar aka Kel aka MY SPECIAL BOY (ish), he/they, my first and so far only Durge. Half-drow, archfey warlock, Haunted One background, starts out fairly Chaotic Neutral but as the game goes on they're TRYING to be good. So, so pretty. Stole Scelaratis's hat after [SPOILERY DURGE EVENTS] and is never going to take it off because every time I see him in it I giggle uncontrollably. Currently taking a little breather after [SPOILERY DURGE EVENTS] while I figure out how I want their endgame to play out. Romanced Astarion and look, LOOK, this was GOING to be the run where I DIDN'T romance Halsin but then Kel confided in him about the whole constant urge to kill thing and Halsin said *gestures at screenshot* THAT and called him a good lad and WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH THAT I AM NOT BHAAL'S STRONGEST SOLDIER so yeah now I'm three for three on romancing Halsin.

(I also have a half-elf bard Tav and halfling druid Tav who I've made mostly to play around with other classes and maybe, MAYBE explore some of the romance options that, y'know, aren't Halsin and Astarion over and over again, but they're both still pretty early in their respective games so I shall perhaps say more about them another time.)

It only took like three scumsaves because of bad rolls, but look who's finally started on a romance path!

Even if there is no such thing as half-elven grace while trying to mimic her wizard crush's easy, fluid motions while he's teaching her how to touch the Weave.

I might headcanon her, given her urchin rogue backstory, to be a little rough around the edges, a little tougher, more spitfirey -- but I think she's fallen hard for the guy who fucked a goddess. ;)

I mean JUST LOOK AT HER.

And I like to think Gale's falling juuuust as hard for this little kleptomaniac who either crit successes or miserably fails her persuasion checks.

And I have jumped into Baldur's Gate 3! Meet Deviali -- a half-Wood Elf rogue with the urchin background. So far I'm thinking she'll romance Gale (is he the same voice actor as Alistair from DAO? I get those same vibes from him!), but we shall see!

Finally finished Shadowheart's quest yesterday, and Astarion's today, and OMG LARIAN HOW DARE YOU MAKE ME FEEL SUCH THINGS.

Commentary

Summary: Everyone else in the party can see Gale and Devi pining over each other, and they're this close to locking both wizard and thief in a closet until they figure it out.

Munching on a piece of bread, Karlach considered the camp, and her new companions. She'd seen some weird shit in Avernus, but it all paled in comparison to what she and the others were going through now. Still, she was away from Zariel, and free for now, and the Blade of Frontiers (Wyll, as he'd insisted on being addressed) had been convinced to let her live. And there were wildflowers here that she could pick and smell on a whim!

Tadpole notwithstanding, this was a vast upgrade from Avernus.

She sat back, watching her companions. Shadowheart and Lae’zel had claimed spots on opposite sides of the fire, where they could malevolently watch each other. Astarion was sipping from a bottle of wine, probably wishing it was blood. Wyll had finished his dinner, and was eyeing the length of his rapier, probably seeing if the blade needed any maintenance. And Devi and Gale were sitting nearby; Gale was seemingly trying to explain a concept of magic to Devi, who was blinking the blink of someone who absolutely didn't understand a single word she was hearing, but was trying to be polite about it.

Karlach hadn't had many opportunities to observe other people outside of combat in the last decade. But she was pretty sure that there was something between the half-Elf kleptomaniac and the wizard. It was an unusual match – a powerful archmage with an uneducated thief, and she was pretty sure there was a decent age gap between the pair. But Karlach did think it was cute. 

She looked up as Astarion flopped inelegantly onto the log beside her, gesturing with his bottle of wine to where the resident thief and wizard were sitting. “Ugh. Just look at them,” he muttered. “It’s nauseating.”

“I think it’s kinda cute,” Karlach responded with a grin, munching on her piece of bread. “You know what they say about opposites attracting, yeah?”

Astarion snorted. “Except these two opposites are both idiots. I don't think she's realised he's pining over her.”

Karlach contemplatively chewed on her bread. “And I don't think he's realised she's checking him out,” she commented, her mouth still full. “Wanna bet that's why she's still listening to the lecture he's giving?”
