A lot of Mio's interactions with Yuuko and Mai in Nichijou really make a lot of sense when you read the later volumes of the manga and realize that the three of them have only been friends for about a year.

Doubly so because Mio at first wanted to avoid Mai and Yuuko because she found them too weird and figured they'd be nothing but trouble but couldn't ignore just how weird the two of them were.

This isn't a unit of friends who've been together for a long time (like other friend groups), this is literally just three girls who are brought together because of a combination of coincidence and convenience. Of course it'd be kind of rough around the edges, even if they generally get along well.
