A friendly reminder to fellow dog owners: PLEASE make sure your pup has a tag with readable contact info! This is the second time this summer that a hot and thirsty dog has wandered into my studio with no way to contact the owner. The dog in the pic had a tag, but the names and phone numbers had worn off. Fortunately the owners drove by and saw me with her. Today's dog had a collar with no tag, and wandered off before I could give it water or take a pic. Dogs get out - it's happened to me plenty of times, and without that call from a friendly stranger, they might never have come home. This is a tough weekend for many four and two-legged family members in America. Here are four easy tips that could help you help your four-legged family members through it. Have a safe and happy weekend! 1) Put a collar and name tags on your dog even if they have a microchip. You never know what could happen out of the ordinary when there are crazy noises outside that could cause your dog to flee. A name tag with 3 phone numbers will get your dog home to you faster than a microchip. 2) Exercise...A LOT... during the day. A tired pup will have less energy to pace and panic. 3)Turn on a TV or radio. Turning your devices on can drown out the noises and sounds from the fireworks. 4) If you leave, put your dog in a crate. At the very least, put your pup in a room with no windows. You might be surprised what a panicked dog can tear up when they are scared and trying to flee. So this happened today...while walking today with my on foot crew we encountered 2 dogs off leash that ran right into our pack and caught us all by surprise! Luckily nothing happened. However we where fortunate nothing happened it could've gone horribly Bad! While these dogs where nice we did not know them, we saw them go into a nearby backyard and figured that's where they lived. Nobody was outside supervising them... thankfully for us they didn't follow us and no harm came to our crew.
