Today’s #MondayMaker is (🥁🥁🥁) @moonlightmakers ! Moonlight Makers is a local, grassroots company (based in Asheville) with THE BEST (mostly food) puns, printed on shirts, towels, koozies, cards, etc. The business is run by 2 moms and a team of awesome staff. I love going in there to browse because I always laugh out loud at the stuff they come up with! This one in particular got me and I *had* to get it printed on a shirt for my husband who loves tacos. They print on site and turn around custom orders so fast! Ive almost always had a custom request printed same day. The company has donated their services to help fund @asheville_cm with printed shirts from Creative Mornings ‘manifesto’. The place is all around good vibes. If you’re not local, they sell all over the world online. Today’s #MondayMaker is @dora_cuenca ! Dora is a Costa Rican artist who’s murals struck my attention. I love her use of line and color— each piece is whimsical, bright, and full of joy. There is a detailed simplicity in her work; you can really feel the movement and expression in each piece. Today’s #MondayMaker is @cakesbygray ! Melissa Gray is an incredible pastry chef here in Asheville, NC who specializes in customized cakes. Her work is creative, polished, and diverse— she can range from cutesy cakes to very elegant, refined ones. And not only do her cakes *look* incredible, she also has a wide range of mouth-watering flavors such as strawberry basil, vanilla chai, peach bourbon, cranberry sage... should I go on? 🤤 A business owner and mother, she churns out an amazing amount of confections. She also just opened a new restaurant in Asheville called @rosabees — Hawaiian inspired small plates, cakes, and cocktails 😍. While I couldn’t decide on one photo to represent @cakesbygray ‘s work, I wanted to start with this picture of a cake she donated to Zoe through @icingsmiles. Todays #MondayMaker is the inspiring @irene.lin.wei ! It was hard to pull away from her site and instagram because she has done SO MANY unique and interesting projects. Irene graduated from RISD with a BFA in Furniture Design and a concentration in Environmental Studies. All the while she pursued Traditional and Contemporary Papermaking. As a lover of paper AND sustainability, I’m IN LOVE with these fruit papers! Irene has also made some incredible paper sculptures, pulp paintings, 3D renders and of course amazing furniture. She worked with Ms. Wheelchair Rhode Island and R.A.M.P. Today’s #MondayMaker is @bethanykrullsculpture ! I first saw Bethany’s work at @hotelhenrybflo this weekend. Today’s #MondayMaker is Chris Smith of @blueandyellowmakes ! I first saw Chris speak about seed saving, then more recently took his Seed to Stem class about using the entire plant in innovative ways (and so much more). I’ve followed his blog posts through @sowtrueseed and have taken a lot of planting advice from him! SO, I was so excited to finally get my preordered book by him in the mail! Chris is a genius; funny, inventive, and an experimenter— he’s come up with some of the most bizarre and amazing ways to use okra (think vodka, pancakes, straws...) and certainly has me growing it this year. This book (and his instagram, website, blog) are educational, inspirational and perspective shifting for any grower or aspiring grower. I follow him @blueandyellowmakes and his posts have helped me identify bugs in my garden! Whether you are an Asheville native or not, I highly recommend following Chris’s work, and whether you’re an okra lover or not, I highly recommend this book! Todays #MondayMaker is the absolutely amazing duo @thefarmershands, Sebastiaan and Arielle, who run a gorgeous homestead in Mars Hill, NC and host the most special dinners, cooking classes, and events there!! Almost every single aspect of each dinner is hyper-local: food and flowers coming from either their own homestead or small farms nearby (from homemade relishes to spices to homemade ice cream to infused oils to homemade jams...)Their dinners are 7-8 course meals, each course as divine as the next. My favorite part of their business— other than their dedication to local food and agriculture— is that both Sebastiaan and Arielle are so kind, humble, and laid-back. Stuart and I had our wedding reception here with our immediate family (oh yeah, Im married!!!!) and @thefarmershands truly made it a special experience. We are so blessed to have such a special spot in our neighborhood! I highly suggest you checking out @thefarmershands for classes, dinners, inspiration— but beware— their classes and dinners sell out like HOTCAKES so you gotta get on it! Today’s #MondayMaker is @mollyannebishop ! I have been following Molly’s work for a while now and I LOVE IT!!! Each piece she creates is so different, creative, FUNNY, and very slice-of-life (my favorite). I can relate to almost every piece, as a fellow grocery-store-loving, cracker-overeating, magic-turtle-wishing lady. I love the playfulness in her work as well as the color and seeming simplicity of the lines. You can tell that Molly takes her work seriously and cares a lot about it, and yet there is also a lightheartedness there. I also really love that Molly sticks to multiple disciplines— she is not only a phenomenal potter but a comic illustrator (and business woman/marketer!). I get a kick out of her cartoons, and love the idea of cartoons-on-plates (and bowls and mugs and stuff). You gotta check out @mollyannebishop for a laugh and life inspiration! She makes books from found and recycled objects that are SO creative, whimsical, and FUNNY! Each piece is completely unique, and she is PROLIFIC!
