Audio transcript of appointment between Lt. Ranger John Lawrence (ID J-JLAW_122.21-C) and Dr. Cai Qiu Yue (ID C-CQIU_824.65-D)
PPDC Mandated Counseling, Session #84 1601 HKT, December 19 2024
CQY: So, Johnny. How did the sparring session go?
JL: Don’t give me that look.
CQY: What look? This is just my face.
JL: You know about LaRusso.
CQY: I don’t know anything which you haven’t chosen to tell me for certain. But I’m sure you’re aware of how Shatterdome walls like to talk.
JL: [inaudible]
CQY: This is still easier if you speak to me, not to your hands.
JL: I said I can’t believe it.
CQY: How are you feeling?
JL: Don’t know.
CQY: Okay. Let’s set some parameters.
JL: You love those.
CQY: Sure do. Should have been in K-Science. [pause] Alright. Wikipedia’s entry on Ranger LaRusso states the following; ‘Daniel LaRusso is an American pilot with the Pan Pacific Defence Corps. LaRusso helmed the Japanese jaeger Perfect Balance alongside Nariyoshi Miyagi until the latter’s death in 2020. His exit from active service removed the last of the Mark 1 jaegers from operation’. Would you say that is accurate?
JL: No.
CQY: How so?
JL: He didn’t ‘exit service’. He pussied out.
CQY: He experienced an incredibly traumatic event. I would have thought that, of all people, you might have some understanding for how that must have felt.
JL: I didn’t take all the glory then quit when the going got rough.
CQY: No. And I would encourage you to feel sympathy about that, the next time you have dinner with Marshal Brown.
JL: [pause] Point taken.
CQY: Can you describe what happened for me? Today?
JL: He was on the mat with Miguel. He’d already been through most of the trainees and they were - fine, my kids are good, they’re great. But that wasn’t it; it just wasn’t lookin’ right. None of them were doing it wrong but I could just see how LaRusso wasn’t getting into it, was missing all these openings. It pissed me off.
CQY: Because….
JL: Because he’s a good fighter! He should have been better than that. Like, how the hell am I meant find him a co-pilot if he won’t try.
CQY: Did you?
JL: Try, or find him a co-pilot?
CQY: Take your pick.
JL: Back when me and Bobby were in Cobra, it wasn’t - it was like we anticipated each other’s moves, you know? I could just guess what he was going to do next. With LaRusso it was more like I already knew. Like it was he was already in my head, and he’d read and practiced some kinda instructions written on the inside of my skull. He knew like I did. Like some other part of me.
CQY: And yet you don’t like him.
JL: Absolute shit for brains. [pause] Wait.
CQY: Perhaps not the best insult under the circumstances. Are you apprehensive about the drift?
JL: Not my first rodeo.
CQY: I imagine Ranger LaRusso feels similarly.
JL: What, you talk to him too?
CQY: You have to know by now that I can’t tell you that.
JL: Yeah, y-
CQY: But no, I don’t. Have your seen your new jaeger?
JL: Hah, ‘new’. She’s a refurb.
CQY: Aren’t we all?
JL: I wish.
CQY: What do you think?
JL: I think she’s gorgeous. I think she’s one of the most beautiful machines that man has ever made, and I can’t wait to die in her.
CQY: I see.
JL: Isn’t this where you usually tell me to be more optimistic?
CQY: John, the last time we spoke you were a highly specialised gym instructor. Now you’re suiting up to drive a 8,000 tonne robot for the first time in over a decade. There is no ‘usually’ here, and I’m not in the habit of lying to you.
JL: You know they’re not technically robots, right?
CQY: Yes. Don’t think I don’t notice you attempting to distract me, but yes. I do know that.
JL: They’re letting me name her.
CQY: Oh?
JL: Don’t tell anyone, in case it gets back to LaRusso. Don’t want him to give me some pretentious sh- stuff. But I’m thinking Eagle Fang.
CQY: Eagle… Fang?
JL: Yeah. Like it?
CQY: I think it’s more important that you do. On different note; how is Robby?
JL: Still won’t speak to me. Still not speaking to me from the middle of the continent, though, so I’m taking the win.
CQY: Did you reach out to him like we talked about last week? Have you told him about your change in circumstances?
JL: He’s the one looking at the numbers. He’s a smart kid, he knows.
CQY: And Cadet Diaz? Have you told him?
JL: Oh, come on. He definitely knows. Have you looked out the fucking window recently?
CQY: John.
JL: Sorry. [pause] Yue, I can either keep the kids safe by putting them as far away from the action as possible, or by teaching them how to fight. Call it playing the odds. Not that mine have never been all that great.
CQY: I understand that you still aren’t open to discussing the situation with Sergeant Diaz -
JL:  [crosstalk] You’re goddamn right I’m not.
CQY: [crosstalk] But I feel obliged to state for the record that what happened is in no way your fault. She was an exceedingly competent pilot who knew the risks she was taking, same as you.
JL: Yeah sure, I knew the risks. Still ended up putting her in a fucking wheelchair. [pause] Sorry.
CQY: I’ll let the ’goddamn’ slide. Call it an early Christmas present. [pause] John, I understand that for how closely you have been involved with the training and co-ordinating the jaeger program these last few years, there is a world of difference between teaching and doing. I would just like you to be able to feel whatever it is you need to feel about that.
JL: Well, doc, that was as delightful as ever. Same time next week?
CQY: Holidays.
JL: Oh, right. Hey, think they’ll still be paying us in January?
CQY: I’ve been stealing the cutlery from the canteen for years. If I pawn it I can probably keep us going for ano- [alarm siren begins sounding, recording ends abruptly]

Bob Iger Returns To Chairman And Chief Executive Officer Of The Walt Disney Company Due COVID-19 Crisis At Disney
Bob Iger has taken CEO responsibilities back from Bob Chapek at The Walt Disney Company.
"A crisis of this magnitude and its impact on Disney actively treat and help Bob Chapek. Especially for the company that lasts 15 years."
The former C.E.O. thought he was riding into the sunset. Now he’s reasserting control and reimagining Disney as a company with fewer employees and more thermometers.
The Walt Disney Company turned franchises like Marvel and “Star Wars” into the biggest media business in the world, and last fall it was putting the finishing touches on the image of a storied character: its chief executive, Bob Iger.
In late September, Mr. Iger, 69, published “The Ride of a Lifetime,” an engaging work of self-hagiography. The handsome executive, who seriously considered running for president this year, spent the next month on the kind of media tour that Disney is known for: he reveled in the successful start of a streaming service that immediately rivaled Netflix, was hailed as “businessperson of the year” by Time and described as “Hollywood’s nicest C.E.O.” in an article in the The Times by Maureen Dowd. Even his friends wondered if the soft-focus Instagram ads produced for his MasterClass on leadership were a bit much.
It all went so well that Mr. Iger decided it was time to do something he had postponed four times since 2013: retire as C.E.O.
In early December, Disney executives say, he told his board that he was ready to leave. Around that time, a handful of people in Wuhan, China, began developing mysterious coughs.
At the end of January, a few days after Disney was forced to close its Shanghai theme park as the coronavirus spread, Mr. Iger and the board stuck with their plan, agreeing that he would step back to become executive chairman and that the low-profile head of the parks and cruise business, Bob Chapek, would take over immediately as chief executive. They finalized the arrangement even as the stock market began to shudder. And on Feb. 25, they shocked Hollywood with the news that Mr. Iger’s 15-year run had ended.
The seemingly abrupt announcement prompted intense speculation about the reasons for Mr. Iger’s exit. “Sex or health?” one media executive who knows him texted another that night. Two weeks later, a different question emerged: Had Mr. Iger, with his deep ties to China and legendary timing, seen the coronavirus about to devastate his global realm? Did he get out just in time?
Mr. Iger, who has always carefully managed his image, told me in an email, there was no more than met the eye.
“No surprises … nothing hidden … nothing different or odd to speculate about ….,” he wrote, ellipses and all.
In fact, people close to Mr. Iger and the company said in interviews that the real question wasn’t whether he saw the crisis coming — but whether his focus on burnishing his own legacy and assuring a smooth succession left him distracted as the threats to the business grew. No big media company is more dependent on its customers’ social and physical proximity than Disney, with its theme parks and cruise lines. Few have been hit harder by the pandemic.
And now, Mr. Iger has effectively returned to running the company. After a few weeks of letting Mr. Chapek take charge, Mr. Iger smoothly reasserted control, BlueJeans video call by BlueJeans video call. (Disney does not use Zoom for its meetings for security reasons.)
The new, nominal chief executive is referred to, almost kindergarten style, as “Bob C,” while Mr. Iger is still just “Bob.” And his title is “executive chairman” — emphasis on the first word.
Mr. Iger is now intensely focused on remaking a company that will emerge, he believes, deeply changed by the crisis. The sketch he has drawn for associates offers a glimpse at the post-pandemic future: It’s a Disney with fewer employees, leading the new and uncertain business of how to gather people safely for entertainment.
“It’s a matter of great good fortune that he didn’t just leave,” said Richard Plepler, the former HBO chief. “This is a moment where people first and foremost are looking to an example of leadership that has proved itself over an extended period of time — and Bob personifies that.”
The story of the Walt Disney Company since Mr. Iger’s predecessor, Michael Eisner, took it over in 1984 is one of astonishing growth that has become the model for the modern, global media business. The company turned its tatty icons like Mickey Mouse into cash cows. Mr. Iger has spent more than 40 years working for companies that are now part of Disney, and has earned his reputation through bold acquisitions. He bought Pixar, then Marvel, then Lucasfilm, for single-digit billions, and quickly created many more billions in value with them. Mr. Iger had the greatest job on earth, ruling not just a company but a “nation-state,” as California’s governor, Gavin Newsom, described Disney recently.
But Disney’s much-imitated model was almost perfectly exposed to the pandemic. The shift from on-screen entertainment into in-person experiences helped Disney become the biggest media company in the world. But those businesses have been impossible to protect from the pandemic. The company’s largest division brought in more than $26 billion in the year ending last June by extending its brands to cruise ships and theme parks. Those are all shuttered now. It has three new cruise ships under construction in Germany, their futures unclear. The jewel in its second largest division, television, is ESPN, which in a sports-less world is now broadcasting athletes playing video games. The third group, studio, had expected to bring in most of its revenue from movie openings in theaters, which are now closed.
There has been a glimmer of good news in the introduction of Disney+. The company’s troubled share price jumped about 7 percent in after-hours trading last Wednesday on the news that the streaming service had attracted 50 million subscribers. But the project is still an investment, years away from generating revenue that could replace a big movie opening in theaters. And the service is desperate for new content — at a time when television and film production has ground to a halt.
This all means the company is losing as much as $30 million or more a day, the media industry analyst Hal Vogel estimated in an interview. The company borrowed $6 billion at the end of March, a sign both of its desperate plight and lenders’ confidence that it could rebound.
In an emergency like this, Mr. Iger said, he had no choice but to abandon his plan to pull back.
“A crisis of this magnitude, and its impact on Disney, would necessarily result in my actively helping Bob [Chapek] and the company contend with it, particularly since I ran the company for 15 years!” he said in his email.
That realization appears to have hit just after the company’s March 11 annual shareholder gathering in Raleigh, N.C., which served as Mr. Chapek’s debut and was staged as a carefully scripted handoff.
“I’ve watched Bob [Iger] lead this company to amazing new heights, and I’ve learned an enormous amount from that experience. I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to work closely with him during this transition,” Mr. Chapek said at the meeting. (A Disney spokeswoman declined to make Mr. Chapek available for an interview.)
The men flew from there to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., to meet executives worried about the effect of social distancing on their business; they announced the park’s closing the next day. Then, they flew back to Los Angeles and on the way, said a person familiar with their conversation, they discussed the depth of the crisis. Mr. Iger made clear that he would remain closely involved.
The next day, March 13, was their last in the office. In early April, Mr. Chapek sent a bleak internal email announcing a wave of furloughs. He pushed immediate cuts and freezes on everything from development budgets to contractors’ pay.
The company employed 223,000 as of last summer, and won’t say how many workers are furloughed, but the numbers are huge. It includes more than 30,000 workers  in the California resort business alone, according to the president of Workers United Local 50 that represents some of those workers, Chris Duarte. Another 43,000 workers in Florida will be furloughed, the company confirmed on Sunday. All the workers will keep their benefits, but their last paychecks come April 19.
The mood at Disney is “dire,” said a person who has done projects with the company. “They’re covering the mirrors and ripping clothes.”
Mr. Iger, meanwhile, is trying to figure out what the company will look like after the crisis. One central challenge is to establish best practices for the company and the industry on how to bring people back to the parks and rides while avoiding the virus’s spread — using measures like taking visitors’ temperatures.
Mr. Iger also sees this as a moment, he has told associates, to look across the business and permanently change how it operates. He’s told them that he anticipates ending expensive old-school television practices like advertising upfronts and producing pilots for programs that may never air. Disney is also likely to reopen with less office space. He’s also told two people that he anticipated the company having fewer employees. (Mr. Iger said in an email on Sunday evening that he had “no recollection of ever having said” that he expected a smaller work force. “Regardless, any decision about staff reductions will be made by my successor and not me,” he added.)
Mr. Iger’s own narrative had been written to a neat conclusion. Now, his legacy will probably be defined in the unexpected sequel of one of the great American companies fighting for its life.
And Disney’s endlessly troublesome question of succession — which had finally, for a couple of weeks, seemed settled — may be open again. One person close to the company said Mr. Iger assured Mr. Chapek that the extraordinary circumstances would be taken into consideration in the board’s evaluation of Mr. Chapek’s performance. But in reality, two hard, unpredictable years will determine if he can hold the job. Two other executives who were passed over for Mr. Chapek — Kevin Mayer and Peter Rice — remain at the company. Nobody knows when Americans will go to the movies again, much less get on cruise ships.
And nobody knows when — or whether — Mr. Iger will have another moment to leave on top.

LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN
November 9, 2020
Heather Cox Richardson
I had hoped that the days when the news came like a firehose were over, but so far, no luck.
This morning, the stock market jumped 1200 points in its first day of trading after the announcement of Biden’s election. Over the course of the day it was up as much as 1600 points, then ended for the day with the Dow Jones Industrial Average up 834.57 points, or 2.95%.
The strong market is at least in part because pharmaceutical company Pfizer and the German drug company BioNTech announced today they have a coronavirus vaccine which appears to be about 90% effective. The Trump administration immediately tried to take credit for the vaccine, only to have Pfizer note that it has not taken federal money under Trump’s Operation Warp Speed for rushing a coronavirus vaccine. Don Jr. promptly suggested that the delay in announcing the potential vaccine until this week was designed to hurt Trump’s reelection, but it seems Pfizer is likely distancing itself from Trump to avoid any suggestion that the vaccine is about politics, rather than science. In the past, the administration has touted a number of treatments for Covid-19 that have turned out to be ineffective, and the pressure for a vaccine before the election threatened to weaken public faith in one.
The pandemic continues to worsen across the country. Today we learned that Ben Carson, the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, has tested positive for the virus; so has David Bossie, the Trump adviser in charge of the campaign’s legal challenges to the election loss. Both men were at the election night watch party at the White House, along with White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, who was infected at the time and did not wear a mask. Aides told PBS NewsHour reporter Yamiche Alcindor that they were worried the event would be a superspreader, but felt pressured to attend.
President-Elect Joe Biden started his presidential transition today, beginning by announcing the makeup of his coronavirus task force. It’s an impressive group of doctors and scientists, including Dr. Rick Bright, a whistleblower fired by Trump officials. “Please, I implore you, wear a mask," Biden told Americans. "A mask is not a political statement…. The goal is to get back to normal as fast as possible.”
New leadership and the rising infection rates are shifting the conversation. Last night, Utah’s Republican Governor Gary Herbert announced a state of emergency. He has imposed a statewide mask mandate indefinitely and a ban on social gatherings outside of households for the next two weeks. He has limited extracurricular activities at schools. Businesses that don’t follow the mask mandate can be fined; organizers who ignore the social gathering rule can be prosecuted and fined up to $10,000.
Not everyone likes the idea of new leadership, though. In an unprecedented move, Trump is refusing to acknowledge that he has lost the election. He has launched lawsuits challenging the ballot counting in a number of states, and his surrogates—including White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany—are accusing the Democrats of cheating. Tonight, Attorney General William Barr legitimized the idea of voter fraud by permitting federal prosecutors to investigate such allegations. Barr’s move prompted the head of the Election Crimes Branch of the Department of Justice, Richard Pilger, to resign.
But what’s so weird about this is that they are losing all these lawsuits. Indeed, some of them they’re not even trying to win: they’re not bothering to fill out the correct paperwork. It seems clear that they are simply stoking the narrative of an unfair election, but it is not at all clear to me to what end.
It is certainly possible that Trump and his people are launching a coup, as observers warn. And yet, this would not be an easy task. Biden’s win is not a few votes here or there; it is commanding, and Trump’s aides are telling reporters they think the game is played out. The military has already said it wants no part of getting involved in the election, and the courts so far are siding against the administration entirely. Even key Republican leaders, such as Georgia’s Republican lieutenant governor, are denying there has been any problem with the vote.
Maybe what’s at stake is that last Tuesday’s election left control of the Senate hanging on two runoff elections in Georgia. Today the Republican candidates in those races tagged on to the cries of voter fraud to call for Georgia’s Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to resign. Raffensberger is the top elections official in the state. He is a Republican. There is no evidence of any irregularity in the 2020 Georgia election, and the two senators did not offer any. But if they can get Democratic votes thrown out, Senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler might avoid the runoffs that look like they might well result in Democratic victories.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is determined to keep control of the Senate, and ginning up a conviction that the election was rigged could do that. McConnell defended Trump’s challenging of the election today, although he did not explicitly say he believed the election had been fraudulent. Trump’s attacks are working: new polling shows that 7 out of 10 Republican voters now think that the 2020 election was illegitimate. Barr met with McConnell before he signed onto the idea of voter fraud by announcing that federal prosecutors could go after it.
Still, while control of the Senate is likely driving McConnell, it seems highly unlikely that Trump cares about it. Perhaps the president is simply deep in a narcissistic rage, unable to face the idea of losing.
But there is something else niggling at me.
Trump’s refusal to acknowledge Biden’s win means that the current administration is denying him the right to see the President’s Daily Briefing (the PDB) which explains the biggest security threats facing the country and the latest intelligence information. Trump can keep Biden from seeing other classified information, too.
Today, Trump fired Defense Secretary Mark Esper (by announcing the firing on Twitter), and replaced him with a loyalist, Christopher C. Miller, who will be “acting” only. Trump also selected a loyalist and Republican political operative, Michael Ellis, to become the general counsel at the National Security Agency, our top spy agency, over the wishes of intelligence officials. Ellis was the chief counsel to Representative Devin Nunes (R-CA), a staunch Trump loyalist. Trump is also reportedly considering firing FBI director Christopher Wray and CIA director Gina Haspel. Last week, he quietly fired the leaders of the agencies that oversee our nuclear weapons, international aid, and electricity and natural gas regulation, although the last of those officials was moved to a different spot in the administration.
In other words, Trump is cleaning out the few national security leaders who were not complete lackeys and replacing them with people who are. It’s funny timing for such a shake-up, especially one that will destabilize the country, making us more vulnerable.
Today Washington Post diplomacy and national security reporter John Hudson noted that a source told him that the “Trump administration just gave Congress formal notification for a massive arms transfer to the United Arab Emirates: 50 F-35s, 18 MQ-9 Reapers with munitions; a $10 billion munitions package including thousands of Mk 82 dumb bombs, guided bombs, missiles & more….” This deal comes two months after the administration’s Abraham Accord normalizing relations between Israel and the UAE opened the way for arms sales.
The UAE has wanted the F-35 for years; it is the world’s most advanced fighter jet. They cost about $100 million apiece. The president’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, has secretly been pushing for the sale of the arms to the UAE in the face of fierce opposition by government agencies and lawmakers.
The administration had announced a much smaller version of this deal at the end of October, in a sale that would amount to about $10 billion, but Congress worried about the weaponry falling into the hands of China or Russia and seemed unlikely to let the sale happen. In 2019, it stopped such a deal. Trump declared a national emergency in order to go around Congress and sell more than $8 billion of weapons to the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Jordan. He later fired Steven Linick, the State Department’s inspector general looking into those sales, but when the IG’s report came out nonetheless, it was scathing, suggesting that they put the U.S. at risk of being prosecuted for war crimes.
When you remember that Trump’s strong suit has always been distraction, and that he has always used the presidency as a money-making venture, I wonder if we need to factor those characteristics in when we think about his unprecedented and dangerous refusal to admit he has lost this election.

Definitely not garbage. It makes me smile every time you write something new, or reblog something that I missed the first time around. You're an incredible writer and bringing a little light and joy (and thirst) to the world, which is good. We need that sort of thing. Especially these days, something to think about and distract ourselves with when things look horrible out there.
i saw this ask this morning and honestly i had a really hard time coming up with words to actually reply to this.  For a short answer, thank you so much. you have no idea what this means to me. I really love writing and that and you all are some of the only things keeping me sane atm. i can’t believe you even took the time to even write to me - thank you so so much (i laughed at thirst lmao). i love you
For a longer answer: check under the cut (TW: death, mourning, covid)
its been a really hard month for me. between the unexpected loss of my nephew, trying to be there for my sister and my family, starting my new legal internship, friend problems, and then the larger problems of COVID-19 and the murders of innocent African Americans - i feel like i’ve been put through the wringer and back again. i’ve been slowly attempting to put what remains of my heart back together again.
i’ve been so angry for so many different reasons. At COVID, for making me miss half my nephew’s life. At the universe, for taking my nephew. At the people who haven’t been there for me. At the police and the criminal justice system in general - b/c if the system fails one of us, it fails altogether. At myself - for being a bad aunt and not visiting my nephew more before COVID happened, for being a shitty person, for not being able to write, just a lot of things.
i’m trying to channel that energy into something productive - helping my family, writing, working at my internship (which has been so fulfilling if not difficult to focus at times). But the last few days i’ve been blocked - its really been the last straw for me. writing is the only way i can escape atm (besides too many hours of acnh) and i find its difficult to even find words.
but this message meant so much to me -- and these kind words that let me keep writing. keep creating. keep going. i appreciate it so much. and if i make you happy in any way - that’s honestly my only goal. even when i was a kid, i wanted to do things to make people laugh or smile and that is still is true today.
i can’t lie and say things are great right now. in world at large and for me personally, but things always get better. this too shall pass. in the meanwhile, expect more content and some more funny posts about me yelling about star wars or whatever other fandoms i’m in.  i’m not giving up on the world. we will make change happen. and things will get better.

Alladin was always right
Pairing: Catra/Adora - Catradora Word Count: c.680
There were little things in this world that Adora loved more than a good run. She’d been active her whole life - track, swim team, basketball, football, martial arts - you name it and she likely had a trophy for it. She started weights at some point in high school and grew large enough shoulders to have the American Football couch barely begging her to join by junior year. But running had always held a certain appeal. Maybe because it was the closest thing to flying.
Catra thought no one should run unless they were being chased.
And so she was stubbornly fast walking after Adora who was running around Disney saying they were going to get too big lines is Catra didn’t hurry up. This was also bullshit. Because Catra worked there and knew the people on the lines and therefore could 100% get a fast fast pass called “I got you through your last date Lonnie you fucking own me” or “I will break every single bone in your body if you ruin this for me Kyle”. But telling Adora that was the same as trying to tell an over-excited puppy they could only go for a walk after.
But it was fine. Adora would occasionally run back to try and pull Catra along before she got distracted with something else. But she was so happy it was almost worth all the kids puke and the creepy men who wanted to take a lot of pictures with Pocahontas. It was almost worth how insulting the whole movie was. Maybe not but Catra need the money either way. And she got to give Adora a proper date for basically free so.
The only thing she had to do was avoid Rogelio. He was a cool guy. But he also organized her part of the park and there had been cast members getting sick recently and she couldn’t be called to substitute today. Anytime but today.
Which is a funny thing to say as she spotted Adora after an unusual amount of time talking to Rogelio. Because the universe hatted her. She slowly inched through the crowd to where Glimmer (Tinkerbell) and Bow (Peter Pan) were being their devious selves with a few kids. “I thought you’d keep an eye on her” she whispered to Glimmer who continued smiling as Catra pretended she was very interested in a rock “I tried - She’s slippery.” Peter-Bow gave an evil-ish Laugh and had the kids attack Catra then which called the attention of Adora who had already been looking for her.
And that in itself was scary enough because Adora, her maybe girlfriend, and Rogelio, her for sure boss, were walking over both equally excited. But Catra couldn’t stop thinking how weird this character was for Bow. It always amazed her how truly mischievous he became in the costume. They had even got into the habit of differentiating them into Bow and Peter-Bow. And how not fair it was. Because he had a good fun character. And how Adora seemed to be nodding at Rogelio’s words which was never a good sign. Rogelio was the originator of 60% of the ideas that made Catra’s life hell. The other 40% were mostly Adora thought Glimmer and Bow had been gaining ground.
So it was with about 5 kids for 4 to about 19 (Bow was an outlier and should have not been counted) climbing over her back and holding into her legs that she found out she had a new John Smith. Because the old one had to move and the second actor was very sick and had made the other Phocaontas very sick too.
And it’s like yeah Catra had asked the universe once or twice for a really good excuse to kiss Adora every day. And hold her hand. And all that lovey shit. But she was thinking Girlfriends. Not colleagues. And definitely not with Adora in a short Fake Blonde awful John Smith wig.
And so this was the summer Catra realized Alladin was right all along. Make your fucking wishes specific kids.
Fucking Alladin was always right.

WWE NXT 9/18/19 Review
Well, it is finally here, our first NXT episode that aired live on USA. It was stacked, and they put on a hell of a show. I wasn’t that much of a fan of one part of the show, but plenty matches were awesome. The show felt like a genuine sport, the way they went from match to match without a promo at all. That style is perfect, and I think that they will do well in the upcoming Wednesday Night Wars. Here is my full review of this weeks NXT.
Io Sharai vs. Bianca Belair vs. Candice LaRae vs. Mia Yim for #1 contendership to the NXT Women’s Championship: When things started out, everyone just got a change to hit some of their signature offense, with lots of huge moves and breaking up pinfalls. We saw some awesome power moves from Belair, flying from Sharai, some crafty shots from Yim and a lot of heart from LaRae. We cut to commercial after a huge Moonsault from Sharai to Yim and LaRae on the floor. When we came back, we saw a huge power of doom spot, with Yim superplexing Belair, Sharai German suplexing Yim, and LaRae powerbombing Sharai. We then saw a shower of finishing moves over and over, with Yim hitting a Code Blue, and Belair nailing LaRae with a KOD, but Sharai broke it up. Sharai went for a moonsault to LaRae, but Yim pushed her off the top rope and into Belair on the outside. Yim then got LaRae on her shoulders, before LaRae nailed a poison rana and hit the lionsault for the win.
After the match, Shayna Baszler came out with her cronies. They all surrounded LaRae, and just kinda intimidated her.
Grade: A-. This match was so good that I could hardly keep up with my notes. Everyone was flying around and killing each other with unbelievably awesome moves. We saw some awesome character work in this match as well, showing how desperate everyone in it was for a title shot. That belt is a hot commodity, and everyone should care enough to want it. LaRae was also the best choice to win this. They need a white meat babyface who is just lovable and awesome to beat Shayna. I love this booking, and this was an awesome first match for NXTV. Match of the night
Sean Maluta vs. Cameron Grimes: Grimes nailed the double foot stomp right away as Maluta charged him and got the win.
Grade: C+. Squash? ... Squash? SQUAAAAAAAAASHHH!!!!!!!!!!
Roderick Strong vs. Velveteen Dream for the NXT North American Championship: The two started things out with some technical exchanges, with Strong looking to put Dream on the mat right way. Dream showed off some of his technical prowess as well, and also seemed to be firmly in Roddy’s head. As the match wore on, Strong started to work over the back and the ribs of Dream by driving him into the apron and barricades. Strong then worked Dream over in the corners, with some hard strikes and various backbreakers in the middle of the ring. The two then dueled for submission holds, with Strong trying for the Stronghold, and Dream going for a sharpshooter. The two then battled to the outside before brawling back into the ring, with Dream hitting a nice comeback sequence for a near fall. Dream then hit the DreamDT for another near fall, and it looked like he was getting desperate. Strong fought back into the match with a brutal high knee to the face, and then tied him up in the ropes, nailed a series of hard forearms, a huge back breaker and then a tiger driver for a near fall, with Strong reversing the kickout into a Stronghold. It was tense and took a while, but Dream got to the ring. After that sequence. The rest of the Undisputed Era came out to get Strong’s back. They all talked trash, and Strong pushed Dream into the ref and took him down. Dream then hit a Dream Valley Driver, and started to fight off the Undisputed Era, only for Roddy to nail a high knee and End of Heartache, but Dream kicked out! Dream then hit another Dream Valley Driver, and went to the top rope for the Purple Rainmaker, but Bobby Fish distracted the ref and allowed Adam Cole to superkick Dream off the top rope and Roddy to hit another end of Heartache for the win.
Grade: B+. This was a really good match, with a lot of drama towards the end and a finish that wasn’t too screwy, so it’s still acceptable. Dream and Strong put on a really good match with a lot of exciting spots and good looking hits. Strong deserved this win, because the Undisputed Era deserved to hold all the gold. Undisputed Era controls NXT right now, and it’ll be interesting to see how things proceed from here.
Pete Dunne vs. Arturo Ruas: Ruas and Dunne immediately went to the mat and tried to get good positioning. Ruas quickly tried to lock in an armbar, but Dunne got back to his feet and started to pick away at Ruas’s limbs. Ruas did hit a nice looking sequence of a knee to the chest followed by a kick to the face. At one point, Dunne caught one of Ruas’s kicks and started to attack the toes and feet, and he used that to take control. Dunne nailed an awesome release German suplex, stomping on the hands and then a kick to the head for a near fall. He then nailed another kick to the head and an x plex for another near fall. Ruas then fought back with a kick to the face and a german of his own, but also a near fall. Dunne then took Ruas down with a triangle, and bent the fingers until Raus tapped out.
Grade: B. Good stuff here, a fun technical match that went into some striking to keep things fresh. Of course the outcome wasn’t in doubt, but Ruas could be a solid talent in the future. The division is too star studded now, but I see him in the future. I’m interested in seeing where Dunne goes from here, whether that is the midcard or the main event.
Xia Li vs. Aliyah: Vanessa borne was out with Aliyah. Li showed her agility right in the beginning by flipping around to avoid Aliyah’s offense and then taking her to task with some kicks. At one point, LI went for a spring board dropkcik out of the courner, but she botched in and fell to the mat. She then beat Aliyah down with a series of kicks, before taking her down with a windmill kick for the win.
Grade: C. This would’ve been a C+, but the botch lowered it a bit. It was mostly a squash, and I was happy to see Li get a win. Sucks that she messed up though.
Kushida vs. Denzel something: before the match happened, Imperium showed up and attacked Denzel. It was just Alexander Wolfe, Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel, until they nailed Denzel with a Doomsday European Uppercut. Walter then walked down to the ring, much to the delight of the crowd. Walter then got on the mic, and vowed to destroy anyone who didn’t respect the tradition of the ring. However, Kushida came out to interrupt him. Kushida got on the mic and yelled at them for taking time away from him. They tried to attack him, with Kushida holding them off for a while, until Wlater got a hold of him. Kushida was able to nail a kick on Walter, and then booked it to the back.
Grade: B. The segment felt a bit sloppy here and there, but I am really excited to see Walter on NXT proper. He is awesome, and so is Kushida. I would love to see that match. It seems totally awesome, and Kushida just may have a shot at winning. Kushida is just as big of a deal as Walter, so it’d be interesting to see if Kushida is out next UK Champion.
Lio Rush vs. Oney Lorcan for #1 contendership to the WWE Crusierweight Championship: Lio Rush is back! After Bobby Lashley ditched him, he is back to being an awesome wrestler. Right at the bell Lorcan destroyed him with a huge European uppercuts in the corner, and eventually a blockbuster for a quick near fall. Rush then countered out of the Half and Half suplex, before nailing three suicide dives in a row. Rush hit some nice offense on Lorcan beore scoring a near fall. Lorcan quickly forced his way back into the match and locked in a half crab, but Rush kicked Lorcan away. Lorcan then hit Rush up with chops, and a huge slam for a near fall. Lorcan then tried to throw him into the ropes, but Lio bounced off the bottom rope and nailed a stunner for a near fall. Rush then went for a frog splash, but he landed on his feet and tweaked his knee, allowing Lorcan to nail a powerbomb and lock in a single leg crab again. He then transitioned into an STF, but Rush made the ropes after a long sqeuence. Lorcan then went for a chop to the face, but Rush countered with a series of strikes, only for Lorcan to fire up and nail several chops to the face. Lorcan went for a running move, but Rush caught him in a standing spanish fly. He then hit the frog splash and got the win.
Grade: B+. I was a bit unsure about this match, because Rush didn’t start out by moving as fast as he normally does. But I can attribute that to some ring rust, because they ended up putting on a really really good match. Rush is a good babyface in peril, even with Lorcan remaining a face throughout. Lorcan looked badass, but Rush looked resilient. Great way to convey their characters, and it was a really fun match. Welcome back Lio.
Matt Riddle vs. Killian Dain in a Street Fight: They started out with some violent power moves from Dain, but Riddle answered him back with some suplexes of his own. Dain quickly grabbed a kendo stick and beat him down on the floor off to the side of the stands. The two fought outside, and Walter decided to just run out and attack Riddle. Imperium joined in, and then like everyone in the tag division ran out and started to brawl. Dain and Riddle got back into the arena, with the locker room following them. Security started to try to separate Dain and Riddle, but a bunch of the wrestlers beat down the security. During the scuffle, we saw Killain Dain give a crowd a suicide dive. Then the show just ended.
Grade: D. I’m not into getting a whole bunch of adds that made it seem like there would finally be a resolution to this feud, and then a bunch of randos got involved and stopped the match from happening. I’m sorry, I love Riddle and Dain is good too, but the booking here was garbage. They need to settle their differences eventually, and it should’ve been tonight.
Overall grade: B-
Pros: fatal 4-way; north american championship; dunne vs. ruas; imperium attack; cruiserweight match
Cons: there were so many commercials in the first hour; li vs. aliyah; main event

1) How many works in progress to do you currently have in progress?
one actual wip and like... 5 more that just sit and wait their turn? //sweats
2) Do you/would you write fan fiction?
rip that’s all I write too... tbh I used to write original fiction before but I find myself much less constricted by fanfic? I can explore the characters here more than I can in original fiction where worldbuilding takes most effort
3) Do you prefer paper books or ebooks?
oh definitely paper! if I could I’d buy printed out fanfic too!
4) When did you start writing?
I was about 12 I think? it all started with harry potter, like everything else has, and I regret not a second of it!
5) Do you have someone you trust that you share your work with?
sometimes when i get very excited about what i’m writing i’ll tell my fandom friends about the specific AU that i’m writing about but in terms of reading the full length fic, i don’t have anyone that i let read before anyone else. it’ll be on ao3 for everyone at the same time.
6) Where is your favourite place to write?
my desk, my pc. I can write on my phone but I like to edit as I go and it’s hard to do on the phone.
7) Favourite childhood book?
do I even need to say it? harry potter
8) Writing for fun or writing for publication?
for fun, but with the aim of possible future publication maybe?
9) Pen and paper or computer?
always computer. i have only recently begun writing fics on my phone because i’ve been traveling a lot and i don’t always have my laptop on my person, but it’s still much more comfortable to sit down and type on a proper keyboard.
10) Have you ever taken any writing classes?
at my uni, yes. and it completely sucked bc they didn’t teach anything, just had us write random shit for 3 years so eh
11) What inspires you to write?
everything? like, any random thing or thought I’m instantly trying to weave into my writing, turn it into a prompt. every new experience is just a basis for me to write on.
but if you’re asking WHY I write: I don’t even know, I’ve never thought about it? it’s kind of like asking why I breathe ahaha I just do? it’s a part of me? idk man idk

7/7/7 tag
The rules are as follows: Go to page 7 of your WIP, go to the seventh line, share seven sentences, and tag 7 more writer-bloggers to continue the challenge.
oh wow ok this is a difficult one bc I don’t think I even have a wip 7 pages long //sweats let me see... aha, okay, I found one! from back in march when I asked people to send me over some numbers for one of those writing memes and @theexitgarden I believe (??) sent me the prompt “I don’t think anyone could be as lovely as you” for victuuri and I kind of got a blind!victor au from it?? wELP here’s the fragment of it:
His music is vibrant in a way that he couldn't play on his piano alone and the clap of the blades that he can hear from the speakers of his TV makes him only more certain – this boy, Yuuri Katsuki, is skating to the sound of Victor's soul as if it's his own.
He never notices the tears that well up in his eyes until they roll down his cheeks and Makkachin presses against his side, whimpering in concern. Victor runs a trembling hand through her soft fur and takes a deep breath. And then, he decides.
"Yasha," he says when his former coach, his father in all but blood picks up Victor’s call. "I want to do this."
And he does it.
tagged by @endlesscloudsoftime again, boy you spoil me ahaha

I’d jump from side to side of it to try and rock it a bit and see if I can flip it over and get out that way? idk man what is this question lol
10. Would you count manga as a piece of literature? Why or why not?
ofc I would? honestly, some manga have even better storylines than written fiction why WOULDN’T it be counted as a piece of literature
11. compliment yourself. (joey, you’re just to freaking good to at making up questions).
oh man... //sweats umm??? good job me on not breaking down yet bc the renovations keep being awful and you’re handling it well?? maybe lol

THE COVID TREASONOUS ACTS EXPLAINED
“18 USC §2339C, funding and conspiring acts of terror. Ladies and gentlemen, since he took his position as the highest-paid Federal Employee in our country, Anthony Fauci has had $191 billion that have passed through his fingers – $191 billion of your money has gone through his fingers to build and finance terror…dead to rights, he’s done it.
“18 USC §2331 and following, acts of domestic terrorism resulting in the death of American citizens. Ladies and gentlemen, Section 802 of the Patriot Act makes it abundantly clear that you cannot legally compel a population to do anything out of fear or coercion.
“Anything. That includes losing your job, that includes not going to school, that includes not going to your churches, that includes not being the leadership of churches that is blackmailed into saying that it’s OK to take a bioweapon, because ‘God said it was OK and what would Jesus do?’ You cannot do that!
“Conspiring to commit acts of terror includes people who allegedly claim ignorance. You know that you cannot claim, in a Federal Criminal Case, ‘I didn’t know what I was doing.’ You know what? You DID know what you were doing and you are liable for what you did.
MONETIZING AN ACT OF TERROR
“18 USC §1001 – Lying to Congress. Hey People, if you do one thing from this meeting, please do the following: Do NOT donate another dollar to Rand Paul and I’ll tell you why. Rand Paul has, on three occasions had the criminal evidence against Fauci in his possession. I know, because we had it delivered to him. That’s how I know he has it.
“And three times, he has actually cross-examined Anthony Fauci. He has actually gotten Anthony Fauci to lie to Congress – and not one time has Rand Paul delivered a knock-out blow, by presenting the felony evidence and getting the Capitol Police and the FBI to cuff Fauci and walk him out of the Congress.
“Guess what? Rand Paul is using his faux fight with Fauci as a way to raise money for his campaign. That’s monetizing an act of terror. That’s not being a Patriot.
“And if you want to get really clear on this, send the Rand Paul Campaign a little not that saying, ‘Happy to donate when you deliver the knock-out blow.’
“Little side note on 18 USC §1001 – and this is an important one: In October of 2020, while we were all talking about masks or social distancing, whether or not a vaccine would ever be developed and all of that kind of nonsense, while we were being distracted, the Department of Health and Human Services was required by Congress to send a report to Congress, in which NIH was supposed to disclose all of their financial interests in COVID-19 patents. For those of you who are listening, there are over 4,000.
“Listen, over 4,000 patents derive from US Government-funded research and under the Bayh-Dole Act, those patents have margin rights for the US Government and financial interest to the agencies that gave those grants. Got it? In October of 2020, when that report was delivered to Congress.
“Francis Collins and Anthony Fauci lied to Congress in a written report failing to disclose – not some – failing to disclose 100% of their financial interests in COVID-19.
“They lied to Congress and you know what no one did? Nobody held them accountable! Guess what you can do? You can actually encourage every one of your elected- and appointed representatives, you can encourage everyone you know to either act – or keep harassing them until they DO act, because this information is your responsibility, now, because now you know it. You cannot plead ignorance, either.
“15 USC §1-3 – Conspiring to criminal commercial activity. This is where it gets a little deep but stay with me. 125 years ago, we were worried about names like Rockefeller and Carnegie and all these other names. We were worried about them. because it turns out that 70 people…ran over 80% of the businesses in America. We said that this wasn’t OK.
“And we developed two very important laws: the Sherman Act and the Clayton Act. Anti-trust laws. We used those laws, by the way to go after organized crime in the 1920s, along with the Internal Revenue Laws we also used to go after organized crime.
“But 15 USC §1-3 – Conspiring to criminal commercial activity; that since 1999, Anthony Fauci, Ralph Baric and Peter Daszak have all been engaged in this. They can be arrested tomorrow, if any single member of law enforcement actually is paying attention to their sworn oath and their duty to uphold the Constitution.
MODERNA: ‘DARWINIAN CHEMICAL SYSTEMS’ TO RE-WRITE POST-EXTINCTION HUMAN DNA
“15 USC §8 – Market manipulation and allocation. Does anybody remember in April of 2020, when Anthony Fauci sat in the President’s Oval Office and talked about Moderna was going to be the mysterious savior of the world, despite the fact that Moderna had never produced a safe commercial product in its entire operating history. Anybody? Do you remember that?
“What you don’t remember was in 2010, when Moderna was started, it was the tenth anniversary of the funding that actually started Moderna – and you don’t know what the funding that started Moderna is, because nobody talks about it. Because the funding that started Moderna was the National Science Foundation grant called – and I’m willing to deliver the bad news to you – ‘Darwinian Chemical Systems’. That’s where Moderna comes from!
“Let’s go back and take a little time machine journey 22 years in the past. Let’s jump into that grant application and let’s ask the question: Darwinian Chemical Systems. ‘Hey Dave, why would someone want to invent Darwinian Chemical Systems?’ Well, let’s read it, shall we?
“If we open up the grant and we read the grant, it says that, ‘In a post-extinction event’ – anybody comfortable? You guys all good with post-extinction events?
“‘In a post-extinction event, we want to see if we can get mRNA to write into DNA the code to start human evolution again’. That’s the ten-year grant that started Moderna!
“So every fact-checker at Politifact and Reuters and USA Today and any fact-checker anywhere in the world overlooks a very inconvenient reality. The inconvenient reality is Darwinian Chemical Systems was to use RNA to write into the DNA of life!
“And now, you’re told, ‘Oh, no, no, no, Dave, that cannot happen! The thing we inject doesn’t write into life.’ Except for the fact that the 20-year funding record at the company that’s actually doing it proved that that’s what happened.
“Is anybody uncomfortable with a bioweapon that’s known to write-in to life an extinction event of life? That feels uncomfortable to me!
“And I think if we actually went into every vaccine location, and actually put up [a sign that says] ‘This is actually not a vaccine, this is a bioweapon,’ and added, ‘By the way, this is a bioweapon formed for a post-extinction re-write of the human genome,’ I think a few people would actually pause for a second and go, ‘Oh, I didn’t know that. I thought I was doing my patriotic duty, getting my flu shot!’
“You’re not! You’re actually getting a bioweapon engineered by and for post-extinction humanity!
“I’m all about not post-extinction humanity! I can’t get an ‘Amen’ ’cause I’m not a preacher but I think there’s a time for an ‘Amen’ and this would be one of those! We are not in post-extinction conversations. We’re in pre-forget-about-extinction. We’re in today.
“And let’s do the last one. 15 USC §19 – Interlocking directorates. This is one that says you are not allowed to get companies that actually have competing interests to get together and fix prices. That’s racketeering. It’s all those nasty things and guess what we have? We have Pfizer and Moderna and Anthony Fauci, all of them, financial interests in.
“We have Justin Trudeau. ‘Oh, Dave, you’re not going to be mean to a Canadian!’…Well, yeah, I am going to be mean to a Canadian, ’cause here we go: Justin Trudeau, who actually failed to disclose to any Canadian that the Canadian government gets a kickback for every one of the Pfizer and Moderna shots, because Acuitas and Arbutus pharmaceuticals, both out of British Columbia are the ones that invented the lipid nanoparticle that is licensed to inject the pathogen into everybody.
“Canada wins every time there’s a shot. Which may explain why Justin Trudeau ordered 10 times more vaccine than there are Canadians – including the moose. Why would we need ten times more doses than the sum total of all of Canada, plus the moose?
“Well, it turns out, that’s racketeering, because, if I’m getting a kickback for every dollar I spend, guess what I get to do? I get to pocket a whole lot of money from all over the world, which is exactly what happened…
“21 CFR §50.24 – Ladies and gentlemen, you cannot give consent if you are coerced. Did you hear what I said? You cannot give consent if you are coerced…You can’t do that, because it’s illegal to do it. So even if you did try to do it, you’d be breaking the law.
THE CRIMELINE
“A bioweapon was created for infectious replication-defective, targeting the human lung epithelium in 1999 by Anthony Fauci. In 2003, the CDC patented the genome – the entire genome. The nature genome. The illegal patent granted to CDC in 2007, after being thrice rejected by the patent office as illegal.
“You heard me say that. The CDC three times had to fight to get an illegal patent granted and when, in 2007, they got that patent granted, they actually controlled the provenance of anything that had to do with SARS Coronavirus from that day forward. We the People sat and did nothing.
“How about in 2012 and 2013, when mysteriously, six viral models were uploaded, in violation of biological and chemical weapons laws in this country. Uploaded to a server from China, because they were collected from six miners in China.
“They were uploaded to a server, in violation of our domestic terrorism- and our bioweapons laws here, in the United States and we had by written confirmation from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 2015, we have Ralph Baric in his own writing stating that he uploaded the bioweapon information that came from China and started manufacturing it here, in the United States.
“Did you hear what I just said? At this point, it’s really important to point out I haven’t done a lot of research, I’ve been following this particular crime, as it has unfolded since 1999. You are looking at the face of the guy who was investigating anthrax in September of 2001. That’s when I started this. I’ve been at this game longer than most people even knew there was a game to be at and certainly longer than anybody who’s actually said that they are ‘really deep into COVID’.
‘STRAIGHT-TO-HUMANS PROTOCOL’ = PRE-MEDITATED MURDER
“So, to quote the actual Associate Vice-Provost of one of the leading medical institutions here, in America, she was told when the institutional review board at her institution in California was asked to review the protocol for this particular vaxxine and she asked, ‘Where are the animal data?’ she was told, and I quote: ‘This is a straight-to-humans protocol.’
“Did you hear what I just said? It’s killed every animal study it’s ever gone into. It’s killed every animal trial that’s ever been done and this is a ‘straight-to-humans protocol’.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, call it what it is: It’s premeditated murder. Stop dancing on the side of this thing and jump in the pool!
This is a crime and we need to start treating it like a crime, instead of watching a bank robber walk out of the bank and calling the Uber for them. This is about getting Anthony Fauci cuffed and perp-walked. That’s what this is about!

In the midst of his sophistry, he made another humiliating appearance at position C With many flaws, Guo refuted the New York Times to reveal his ugliness again
For fear of being forgotten, for fear of losing attention and completely lost to cheat the market, a few days ago Guo Wengui alarmism predicted "72 hours will happen", now 72 hours in the past, the world is still peaceful. It was the New York Times' Nov. 19 article, titled "How Guo Wengui and Bannon Are Pushing the Conspiracy Theory on the Origin of the Novel Coronavirus," that made guo's heart beat.
In a tone rarely seen in western media, the article looked at how Guo and Bannon combined their deep pockets and political influence to form an anti-Communist party alliance and help so-called whistlers, including Yan, to achieve their political goals. The article begins with the story of Dr. Yan Limeng, who fled from her Research office in Hong Kong to the United States and then broke the news to the American media. The author's analysis: "Yan and her baseless claims provide a powerful tool for those who want to overthrow the Chinese government. For American conservatives, it allows them to pander to rising anti-China sentiment in the West and distract attention from the Trump administration's failed response to the epidemic." This panoramic article, which presented facts and presented evidence, was published in the New York Times, a mainstream media in the United States. Many people looked again and again, combined with the actions of Guo Wengui in recent years, finally see guo Wengui in the name of the so-called "democracy and freedom", "anti-China" banner, to achieve his political status, and then cheat money. After reading this article, several Chinese who decided decisively to pull out of G series investment said: "My family and I have been questioning The conspiracy theory of Lao Guo. How could Yan Limeng, an ophthalmologist, have access to the virus data, and no virologist in the world publicly supported her view. It turned out that it was true that Guo was anti-China, and it was also true that he cheated money." According to people familiar with the matter, In recent days, many Series G investors have demanded to withdraw their money, making Mr. Guo furious and ordering his staff to fire back at the New York Times to restore their trust. As a result, the New York Times published two articles, namely "Verifying the Revolution of Spreading Revelations in disguise and Dr. Yan Limeng" and "A Discussion on the Conspiracy Theory of virus Origin". These two articles, is deep guo the essence of "make the funeral wedding" : thanks to the New York times disguised spread fact revolution, CCP virus to the truth, thanks to the New York times reporter spend time fee energy following Revelations of revolution and conscientious written so long notes, although for the spring and autumn period and the brushwork of occupational habit, the article seems to be some sweetly. With your "recognition", we will continue our efforts. However, the truth of the debate more clear, spotlight, Guo's alleged conspiracy loopholes ‍ more clear. The New York Times refuted yan's claims that her mother had been arrested by the Chinese government. Contacted on her mobile phone in October, Yan's mother said she had never been arrested and was desperate to get in touch with her daughter, who she had not spoken to in months. How to fight the New York Times? Guo's writers took pains: "As a Western media outlet that the Communist Party calls" anti-Communist, "the easy access to Dr. Yan's private wechat information and even the contact information of Dr. Yan's family members reveal the special status of the New York Times." Unfortunately, this statement does not stand up to close scrutiny. As we all know, in the age of highly developed information, Yan's private wechat account is no secret. Before it was reported by the New York Times, it had been captured by screenshots and spread many times. It's even easier for a flagship newspaper like The New York Times to get the phone number of Ms. Yan's mother. It has long been said that it takes five people to get in touch with the PRESIDENT of the United States, let alone a reporter from the New York Times. As for yan's mother being threatened, it is even more ridiculous. Threatening a white-haired man is beyond the reach of the New York Times. The New York Times is not a patriotic Chinese media. Mr. Guo, the matter has come to this point. As a fugitive from the Red Link who is heavily in debt, you should keep silent and abscond in the United States with a very low profile. Why do you jump up and down like this, spare no effort to promote conspiracy theories, and be rejected by the world? Does his scandalous face, which is anti-China and insulting to China, make the Chinese people around the world angry and the Chinese government angry? What's the point of deceiving a few simpleton ants and harvesting the last wave of leeks from them?

In the midst of his quibbling, he made another humiliation in position C Guo refutes the New York Times for showing its ugly face again
For fear of being forgotten, for fear of losing attention and completely lose the fraud market, a few days ago Guo Wengui alarmist prediction "72 hours will happen", now 72 hours early past, the world is still peaceful. It was an article in The New York Times on Nov. 19, titled "How Guo Wengui and Bannon Promoted the Novel Coronavirus Origins Conspiracy Theory," that took Guo's heart out.
With a perspective and tone rarely seen in the Western media, the article looks at how Guo and Bannon combined their deep pockets and political clout to form an anti-Communist alliance and promote so-called whistleblowers, including Ms. Yan, for political ends. The article begins with the story of Dr. Yan Limeng, who escaped from her research lab in Hong Kong to the United States and then leaked to the American media.
The author's analysis: "Yan Limeng and her baseless claims provide a weapon for those who want to overthrow the Chinese government. For US conservatives, it allows them to pander to rising anti-China sentiment in the West and distract attention from the Trump administration's failure to respond to the epidemic." This panorama article, presenting facts and evidence, was published in the New York Times, a mainstream media in the United States, and was again frying in the crowd, especially among overseas Chinese. Many people looked and looked, combined with the past few years of Guo Wengui's actions, finally see Guo Wengui under the name of the so-called "democratic freedom", "anti-China" banner, to achieve his political status, and then cheat the purpose of money.
After reading the article, several Chinese who decided to pull out of the G Series investments said: "My family and I have always questioned Lao Guo's conspiracy theory. How could an ophthalmologist Yan Limeng have access to the virus data, and not a single virologist in the world publicly support her opinion. Lao Guo said a lot of hype, so it is true that he is anti-China, cheating money is also true." In recent days, a number of G-Series investors have demanded the withdrawal of their money, according to people familiar with the matter. Guo became furious and ordered his staff to quickly hit back at the New York Times to regain investors' trust. As a result, two Xedi articles were published successively in New York Times: Verification of the Revolution of Dissemination and Dr. Yan Limeng in disguised form, and An Introduction to Conspiracy Theory on the Origin of Virus in New York Times.
In your "recognition", we will continue to work hard. However the truth more argue more clear, below spotlight, the loophole of old guo so-called conspiracy theory ‍ more clear. For example, Yan Limeng once said that her mother had been arrested by the Chinese government, but the New York Times rebutted it through its investigation results. In October, the reporter contacted Yan Limeng's mother by mobile phone. The woman said that she had never been arrested and that she desperately wanted to get in touch with her daughter and had not spoken to her for several months.
How do you fight the New York Times? Guo's writer took great care: "As a Western media called 'anti-Communist' by the Communist Party of China, it is easy to get private information of Dr. Yan Limeng's WeChat, and even get the contact information of Dr. Yan's family, which exposes the special status of the New York Times." Unfortunately, this statement does not stand up to careful scrutiny. As is known to all, in the era of highly developed information, Yan Limeng's private WeChat was not a secret long ago. Before being reported by the New York Times, Yan Limeng's private WeChat had been screenshot and spread many times. Finding Yan's mother's phone number would be easy for a flagship newspaper like the New York Times. It has long been said that "only five people can get in touch with the President of the United States", let alone the reporters of the New York Times. Naturally, there are a large group of people who are willing to expose Guo to them. As for Yan Limeng's mother being threatened, it is even more ridiculous. The New York Times is not so low as to threaten a white-haired old man, and the New York Times is not a patriotic media in China. Is it necessary to ruin the reputation of Yan Limeng for many years in order to write a smash-hit article?
Lao Guo, the matter has come to this, as a red fugitive with a lot of debt, you should keep quiet, very low profile abscond in the United States, why you so high and low, spare no effort to promote conspiracy theory, the world spit on? Does his scandalous face of being anti-China and insulting China cause the anger of Chinese people around the world and the anger of the Chinese government? What's the point of deceiving a few unwitting ants and harvesting the last wave of leeks from them?

Black and Hispanic communities are confronted with vaccine misinformation. Here’s what you need to know: Buffalo Bayou Park in Houston last week. Some experts have raised concerns about intensifying the spread of the virus while the vaccination process is underway.Credit…Mark Felix for The New York Times HOUSTON — Orders requiring masks and limiting the occupancy of restaurants and other businesses were lifted across Texas on Wednesday, a move that some medical experts said was premature while the state was still in the throes of the coronavirus pandemic. Businesses are still allowed to require employees and customers to cover their faces and limit the number of people they allow inside. Cities can choose to keep limits in place in municipal facilities, and they remain on federal property. When Gov. Greg Abbott announced the changes last week, he argued that he was pushing back against the economic devastation wrought by months of limitations on movement and commerce. In a news conference at a restaurant in Lubbock, Mr. Abbott, a Republican, noted the hindrances for workers and small businesses. “This must end,” he said. “It is now time to open Texas 100 percent.” Moments after Mr. Abbott’s announcement, patrons at Barflys in San Antonio removed the plexiglass dividers separating themselves from the bartenders. At Barflys on Tuesday, an hour before the mask mandate was to expire, Amber Jowers, 32, was the bartender on duty. She welcomed the policy change. From now on, she will no longer wear a mask at work, she said. “And we’re taking the sign down at midnight,” she added. “We have to get back to normal now.” Barflys is a softly lit pub with a pool table, dartboard, and a slot machine. Metallica, Salt-N-Pepa, and the Texas Tornados play from the sound system. On the smokey back patio, Sophie Bojorquez, 47, sat at a table with friends. She is a vaccinated nurse and a self-proclaimed anti-masker. “I’m happy about the governor’s decision. The masks impeded the herd immunity we need. Now they want to vax so fast,” she said, shaking her head. The patio bartender, Britt Harasmisz, 24, said that most of her customers didn’t wear a mask even before the mandate ended. And though her employer decided that Barflys would no longer require face covers, she said that she would continue to wear one while working. “A lot of people have been vaccinated, Governor Abbott was vaccinated, but a lot of us on the front lines have not,” she said. “I’m going to wear a mask everywhere I go.” The move to open Texas has faced intense resistance. The governor’s medical advisers have said that they were not involved in the decision. And some experts have raised concerns about intensifying the spread of the virus while the vaccination process is underway. Texas, which is averaging about 5,500 new cases a day, has one of the lowest vaccination rates in the country. Lina Hidalgo, the county judge in Harris County, which includes Houston, has argued that lifting the mask mandate means workers must be the ones to enforce rules in retail establishments and restaurants. “We know better than to let our guard down simply because a level of government selected an arbitrary date to issue an all-clear,” Ms. Hidalgo, a Democrat and a persistent critic of Mr. Abbott, said in an op-ed column published this week by Time magazine. “I am working to clearly explain to the residents of my county that we will spare ourselves unnecessary death and suffering if we just stick with it for a little bit longer.” Bert Rossel, 39, stopped in for a drink at Barflys on Tuesday evening. He said he had known the pub’s owner for many years and worked for him at one time. Mr. Rossel is in the insurance business nowadays. He said he believed that the pandemic had been hyped on social media as another distraction, or as he calls it, “the latest hot topic.” “It’s survival of the fittest,” Mr. Rossel said. “My B.M.I. is higher than normal. Obese people are more susceptible to corona, but it’s been over a year. I would have gotten it already.” As the evening advanced, the patrons at Barflys drank beer and downed shots, smoked and gossiped, enjoying each other’s company. No one paid attention when, at midnight, Ms. Jowers pulled the sign from the front door that read, “MASKS REQUIRED UPON ENTRY.” — Rick Rojas, James Dobbins and Dave Montgomery United States › United StatesOn March 9 14-day change New cases 56,507 –13% New deaths 1,885 –20% World › WorldOn March 9 14-day change New cases 414,200 +11% New deaths 10,062 –10% U.S. vaccinations › President Biden attended vaccinations at a medical center for veterans in Washington on Monday.Credit…Doug Mills/The New York Times When President Biden pledged last week to amass enough shots by late May to inoculate every American adult, the pronouncement was greeted as a triumphant acceleration of a vaccination campaign that seemed only weeks earlier to be faltering. But the announcement was also a triumph of another kind: public relations. Because Mr. Biden had tamped down expectations early, the quicker vaccine production timetable conjured an image of a White House running on all cylinders and leaving its predecessor’s efforts in the dust. The Biden administration has taken two major steps that helped hasten vaccine production in the near term. His aides determined that by invoking the Korean War-era Defense Production Act, the federal government could help Pfizer obtain the heavy machinery it needed to expand its Kalamazoo, Mich., plant. Crucially, Mr. Biden’s top aides drove another vaccine manufacturer, Johnson & Johnson, to force a key subcontractor into round-the-clock operations so its vaccine could be bottled faster. At the same time, Mr. Biden benefited hugely from the waves of vaccine production that the Trump administration had set in motion. To Trump administration aides, the new president’s crowing rings off-key. “They criticize what we did, but they are using our playbook every step of the way,” said Paul Mango, the Trump administration’s deputy chief of staff for health policy and a senior official in the vaccine production effort then known as Operation Warp Speed. He said President Donald J. Trump’s team oversaw the construction or expansion of nearly two dozen plants involved in vaccine production and invoked the Defense Production Act 18 times to ensure those factories had sufficient supplies. Beyond the nuts and bolts of production, the Biden White House has pursued a starkly different messaging campaign than Mr. Trump’s: underpromise, and then try to overdeliver. Mr. Trump routinely boasted of imminent achievements, including a vaccine rollout before Election Day, only to fall short. Carefully calibrated goals “avoid losses,” said David Axelrod, the senior strategist for President Barack Obama’s campaigns in 2008 and 2012. The Biden administration, he added, “must have learned that lesson from watching Trump.” Katie Rogers contributed reporting. Kitty Bennett and Susan Beachy contributed research. Covid-19 information pamphlets with a mask and disinfectant kit distributed in San Jose, Calif.Credit…Ulysses Ortega for The New York Times Black and Hispanic communities are confronting vaccine conspiracy theories, rumors and misleading news reports on social media. The misinformation includes false claims that vaccines can alter DNA or don’t work, and efforts by states to reach out to Black and Hispanic residents have become the basis for new false narratives. “What might look like, on the surface, as doctors prioritizing communities of color is being read by some people online as ‘Oh, those doctors want us to go first, to be the guinea pigs,’” said Kolina Koltai, a researcher at the University of Washington who studies online conspiracy theories. Research conducted by the nonprofit Kaiser Family Foundation in mid-February showed a striking disparity between racial groups receiving the vaccine in 34 states that reported the data. State figures vary widely. In Texas, where people who identify as Hispanic make up 42 percent of the population, only 20 percent of the vaccinations had gone to that group. In Mississippi, Black people received 22 percent of vaccinations but make up 38 percent of the population. According to an analysis by The New York Times, the vaccination rate for Black Americans is half that of white people, and the gap for Hispanics is even larger. The belief that doctors are interested in experimenting on certain communities has deep roots among some groups, Ms. Koltai said. Anti-vaccine activists have drawn on historical examples, including Nazi doctors who ran experiments in concentration camps, and the Baltimore hospital where, 70 years ago, cancer cells were collected from a Black mother of five without her consent. An experiment conducted in 1943 on nearly 400 Black men in Tuskegee, Ala., is one of the most researched examples of medical mistreatment of the Black community. Over four decades, scientists observed the men, whom they knew were infected with syphilis, but didn’t offer treatments so that they could study the disease’s progression. Researchers who study disinformation followed mentions of Tuskegee on social media over the last year. The final week of November, when the pharmaceutical companies Moderna and Pfizer announced promising results in their final studies on the safety of their Covid-19 vaccines, mentions of Tuskegee climbed to 7,000 a week. Los Angeles students inside a Boys & Girls Club in August.Credit…Jae C. Hong/Associated Press The Los Angeles Unified School District and its teachers’ union have reached a tentative agreement to restore in-person instruction, clearing the way for a mid-April reopening of some classrooms in one of the last large school districts to bring students back in substantial numbers. The deal, contingent on teacher vaccinations, extensive health measures and the county’s impending exit from the state’s most restrictive tier of health regulations, was announced on Tuesday evening in a joint statement by the district superintendent, Austin Beutner, and the union president, Cecily Myart-Cruz. “The right way to reopen schools must include the highest standard of Covid safety in schools, continued reduction of the virus in the communities we serve and access to vaccinations for school staff,” they said. “This agreement achieves that shared set of goals.” The agreement is subject to approval by the district’s school board and ratification of the union’s membership. Under the tentative deal, elementary school and high-need students will be brought back in about six weeks, to allow time for returning school employees to be fully vaccinated, according to officials familiar with district negotiations. As middle school and high school teachers become inoculated, those students will then be phased in. The agreement will not immediately restore instruction to pre-pandemic levels. At most, officials said, it will be a blend of remote and in-person teaching, allowing students to come into school for several hours a week in small, stable cohorts while still taking classes online. The last day of school is June 11, and the district expects to offer summer school as it did last year. This month, California began immunizing teachers statewide, with Gov. Gavin Newsom setting aside 10 percent of new doses for school employees and channeling 40,000 doses specifically to Los Angeles school employees. About 38,000 of the district’s 86,000 teachers and other support personnel have been vaccinated, given appointments or waived the privilege, Mr. Beutner said. Most of those have been employed in the district’s preschools and elementary schools. In the governor’s State of the State address on Tuesday, Mr. Newsom said that “there’s nothing more foundational to an equitable society than getting our kids safely back into classrooms.” “Look, Jen and I live this as parents of four young children,” Mr. Newsom noted, echoing the pandemic frustrations of many California parents. “Helping them cope with the fatigue of ‘Zoom school.’ The loneliness of missing their friends. Frustrated by emotions they don’t yet fully understand.” He also noted that the state has committed $6.6 billion for tutoring, summer school, extended school days and mental health programs. “We can do this,” the governor said. “The science is sound.” Handling the Johnson & Johnson shots at a hospital pharmacy in Denver on Saturday.Credit…David Zalubowski/Associated Press President Biden will announce on Wednesday that he intends to secure an additional 100 million doses of Johnson & Johnson’s Covid-19 single-shot vaccine by the end of this year, with the goal of having enough on hand to vaccinate children and, if necessary, administer booster doses or reformulate the vaccine to combat emerging variants of the virus. Mr. Biden will make the announcement during an afternoon meeting with executives from Johnson & Johnson and the pharmaceutical giant Merck, according to two senior administration officials. The rival companies are partnering to ramp up production of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, in a deal brokered by the White House. In announcing that agreement last week, Mr. Biden said that the United States would now have enough vaccine available by the end of May to vaccinate every American adult — roughly 260 million people. But the senior officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity to preview the president’s announcement, said the administration was trying to prepare for unpredictable challenges, from the emergence of dangerous virus variants to manufacturing breakdowns that could disrupt vaccine production. The officials said that they expected the doses to be delivered sometime in the second half of this year, but could not be more specific. They said Mr. Biden would direct officials at the Department of Health and Human Services to negotiate the details with Johnson & Johnson, and that Wednesday’s announcement would be a first step. The White House had initially intended to hold Wednesday’s event at the Baltimore manufacturing facility of Emergent BioSolutions, another company that partners with Johnson & Johnson to make coronavirus vaccine. But Mr. Biden canceled his trip after The New York Times published an investigation into how Emergent used its Washington connections to gain outsize influence over the Strategic National Stockpile, the nation’s emergency repository of drugs and medical supplies. The White House press secretary, Jen Psaki, has since said that the administration will conduct a comprehensive audit of the stockpile. Emergent officials will not attend Wednesday’s session. In explaining the change in plans, Ms. Psaki said that the administration thought the White House was a “more appropriate place to have the meeting,” which it is billing as a celebration of what Mr. Biden has called the “historic” partnership between Johnson & Johnson and Merck. The administration says the collaboration will increase manufacture of the vaccine itself, and will also bolster Johnson & Johnson’s packaging capacity, known in the vaccine industry as “fill-finish” — two big bottlenecks that have put the company behind schedule. Wednesday’s announcement is in keeping with Mr. Biden’s aggressive efforts to acquire as much vaccine supply as possible, as quickly as possible. Before Mr. Biden took office, he pledged to get “100 million shots into the arms” of the American people by his 100th day in office — a timetable that seemed aggressive at the time, but more recently has looked tame. He has been trying to speed it up ever since. At the time, two vaccines — one made by Moderna and the other by Pfizer-BioNTech — had been authorized by the Food and Drug Administration for emergency use. In January, Mr. Biden said the administration would have enough vaccine to cover every American by the end of summer. Last month, the president announced his administration had secured enough doses from those two companies to have enough to cover every American by the end of July. The recent addition of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which received emergency authorization in late February, opened a path for the administration to move up the timetable yet again. But Johnson & Johnson and its other partners, including Emergent, were behind schedule, which prompted the administration to reach out to Merck. The European Union — whose 27 nations are home to 450 million people — came under criticism last week, when Italy used an export-control mechanism to block a small shipment of vaccines to Australia. The move was criticized as protectionist and in sharp contrast to the bloc’s mantra of free markets and global solidarity in the face of the coronavirus pandemic. The issue of vaccine production and exports has also created a bitter dispute between the European Union and Britain, which recently departed the bloc, prompting accusations that Brussels wants to deprive London of doses out of spite, in part because Britain is doing so much better with its rollout. The tensions culminated in a diplomatic spat on Wednesday, after a top E.U. official accused the United States and Britain of implementing an “export ban” — a charge the British government vehemently denied. Practically speaking, ban or no ban, Britain is not exporting vaccines authorized for use at home. The country has said that it would be prepared to give excess shots to neighboring Ireland but only after it was done with its own vaccination efforts. The United States has also been hoarding doses, in part through a wartime mechanism known as the Defense Production Act which permits the federal government greater control over industrial production. President Biden last week promised each adult American at least one vaccine dose would be offered to them by May. But information made public for the first time, recorded in detailed internal documents seen by The New York Times, shows that the European Union, far from being protectionist, is in fact a vaccine exporting powerhouse. Of the nearly 25 million total vaccines made in the European Union that were exported from Feb. 1 — when the export mechanism came into force — to March 1, about a third, more than eight million doses, went to Britain. And while the United States kept doses for itself, the European Union shipped 651,000 vaccines to the country last month, and made vaccines for others across the Atlantic: The country that received the second-largest number of shots made in the European Union was Canada, with more than three million doses last month, while Mexico received nearly 2.5 million. Mike Dunleavy said on Tuesday evening, making it the first state to allow all of its residents access to the vaccine. Alaska has fully vaccinated 16 percent of its population, the highest rate in the country, according to a New York Times database. Adam Crum, the commissioner of the state health department, said, “If Alaskans had any questions about vaccine eligibility and criteria, I hope today’s announcement clears it up for you.” He added, “Simply put, you are eligible to get the vaccine.” Mr. Dunleavy encouraged all “Alaskans that are thinking about” getting vaccinated to do so, adding that the vaccine “gives us the ability now in Alaska to far outpace other states.” The announcement came as other states were rapidly expanding access to vaccines, with New York and Minnesota announcing on Tuesday that they would grant eligibility to wide swaths of their populations. The pace of vaccinations in the United States has continued to accelerate, with about 2.15 million doses being given daily, according to a New York Times database. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Tuesday that about 61.1 million people had received at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, including about 32.1 million people who have been fully vaccinated by Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose vaccine or the two-dose series made by Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna. Some parts of Alaska have reached 90 percent vaccination rates among seniors, Governor Dunleavy said in a statement. In the Nome Census Area, over 60 percent of residents 16 and older have received at least one shot. “We want to get our economy back up and running. We want to get our society back up and running,” the governor said. “We want to put this virus behind us — as far as possible, as soon as possible.” The Pfizer vaccine is available to people 16 and older in Alaska, the governor said, while the Johnson & Johnson and Moderna vaccines are available to those 18 and older. Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo of New York said on Tuesday that his state would lower its age threshold for Covid-19 vaccine eligibility beginning on Wednesday, allowing anyone older than 60 to be inoculated. New York State is also opening vaccination eligibility next week to a large number of public-facing workers, including government employees, nonprofit workers and essential building services workers. Those people can begin to get vaccinated on March 17. New York will join a handful of other U.S. states that allow vaccinations for all people over 60; the majority have set their minimum age eligibility requirement at 65. Mr. Cuomo, in an appearance in Syracuse, pointed to expected increases in supply from the federal government as the reason behind expanding vaccine eligibility. Among the workers eligible to get vaccinated next week are public works employees, social service and child service caseworkers, government inspectors, sanitation workers, election workers, Department of Motor Vehicle employees and county clerks. Appointments will open for those over 60 starting at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Mr. Cuomo said. People over 65 became eligible for a vaccine in January. Elsewhere, Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota announced on Tuesday that the state would expand eligibility to more than 1.8 million Minnesotans this week, including essential workers in industries like food service and public transit, and people 45 and older with at least one underlying medical condition. The announcement is “weeks ahead of schedule,” the governor said in a statement, as the state is set to reach its goal of vaccinating 70 percent of Minnesotans 65 and older this week. In Ohio, residents 50 and older, as well as people with certain medical conditions who had not yet qualified, will be eligible to receive a vaccine this week, Gov. Mike DeWine announced on Monday. The same day, Gov. Henry McMaster of South Carolina announced that residents 55 and older, those 16 and older with high-risk medical conditions and some frontline workers were eligible. John Druschitz displays a stack of medical bills as well as careful notes he took about the timeline of his illness.Credit…Ilana Panich-Linsman for The New York Times John Druschitz spent five days in a Texas hospital last April with fever and shortness of breath as doctors puzzled over a diagnosis. They initially suspected coronavirus. But ensuing lab work was ambiguous: Multiple molecular tests for coronavirus came back negative, but an antibody test was positive. Doctors found that Mr. Druschitz, 65, had an irregular heartbeat and blood clots in both his lungs. They sent him home on oxygen, and ultimately did not give a coronavirus diagnosis because of the negative tests. He didn’t think much about the decision until this fall, when he received a $22,367.81 bill that the hospital has since threatened to send to collections. Working with a patient advocate, he discovered that his debt stemmed in no small part from his diagnosis. Not having a coronavirus diagnosis disqualified his hospital from tapping into a federal fund to cover his bills. Mr. Druschitz ultimately fell short of qualifying for multiple federal health programs that would have paid for his care if the details had been slightly different. On the day the hospital admitted him, he was 64 years old, 23 days away from qualifying for Medicare. He had mistakenly terminated his private health plan one month early. If his hospital visit had happened 24 days later, Medicare would have covered the vast majority of the costs. Because he was uninsured, the hospital sent a letter less than a week after discharge offering to “help apply for medical assistance through various government programs.” Mr. Druschitz had not yet received a bill at the time. When it did arrive, six months later, he was told that offer had expired. Another source of federal funding would have become available if the hospital had determined he had coronavirus: the Covid-19 Uninsured Program. Created last spring, the program pays the medical bills of coronavirus patients who lack health coverage. It has faced some criticism from hospitals and patients for being too narrow, and for covering bills only where coronavirus is the primary diagnosis. A patient with a primary diagnosis of respiratory failure and a secondary diagnosis of coronavirus would not qualify, for example. The Health Resources and Services Administration, which runs the federal fund, does not have plans to change that policy. So far, it has spent $2 billion to reimburse health care providers for the bills of uninsured coronavirus patients. Robbie Fairchild, a former dancer at New York City Ballet, lost his health insurance during the pandemic. He is now running a flower business to help with finances.Credit…Amr Alfiky/The New York Times Across the United States, thousands of actors, musicians, dancers and other entertainment industry workers are losing their health insurance or being saddled with higher costs in the midst of the pandemic. Some were simply unable to work enough hours last year to qualify for coverage. Others were in plans that made it harder to qualify for coverage. The insurance woes came as performers faced record unemployment. Several provisions in President Biden’s $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief plan, which passed the Senate on Saturday and is expected to pass the House on Wednesday, offer the promise of relief. One would make it a lot cheaper for people to take advantage of the federal government program known as COBRA, which allows people to continue to buy the health coverage they have lost. Another would lower the cost of buying coverage on government exchanges. Many of the more than two dozen performers interviewed by The New York Times said that they had felt abandoned for much of the year — both by their unions and by what many described as America’s broken health care system. “You never think it’s going to be you,” said Robbie Fairchild, a former dancer at New York City Ballet who was nominated for a Tony Award in 2015 for his star turn in “An American in Paris” on Broadway and who later appeared in the film adaptation of “Cats.” Unlike other workers who simply sign up for a health plan when they start a new job, the people who power film, television and theater often work on multiple shows for many different employers, cobbling together enough hours, days and earnings until they reach the threshold that qualifies them for health insurance. Even as work grew scarce last year, several plans raised that threshold. Musicians are struggling, too. Officials at Local 802 of the American Federation of Musicians, the New York local that is the largest in the nation, estimate that when changes to its plan take effect this month, roughly one in three musicians will have lost coverage. Insurance plan officials say they were left with no choice but to make painful changes to ensure their funds survive because health care costs have been rising at rates that have outpaced contributions. Comparing two author’s responses to a selected artist.
In Alone Together: Why we expect more from technology and less from each other, Turkle examines how technology having more of our intimacy than our relationships with people. While people are more connected than ever, individuals also become lonelier than ever, which is her focus on chapter 8: Always on. She illustrates how people have become so used to carrying out our emotional lives via gadgets and social networking it has led to the “emotional dumbing down” of our society. The topic raises multiple of opinions of Courrier and Stafford on aspects of identity including agreements, intermediaries, counter-argument.
People are paying more attention to their virtual self on cyberspace. Nonetheless, teenagers are not shaping their own identity on the internet at their will, communication technologies are reflecting and shaping their values. “To those who have lost a sense of physical connection, connectivity suggests that you make your own page, your own place”, said Turkle (2011, pp. 157), to live in virtual places, Second Life. Adolescents can control their perfect relationships with their moms and friended friends, hang out in ‘virtual bars, restauraunts and cafes’, role-play games that more real than themselves in physical real.
“While her argument is significantly one-sided, I do believe it holds great truths”, states Courrier (2011), a fine writer and a formidable critic, technologies are preventing people from becoming their true selves in real life, because cyberspace is where they most themselves (Turkle, 2011, pp. 159). When people have the freedom and ability of becoming whoever they want, they will take their chance and build up what they dream of.
To reduce the heat of the problem, Courrier also debates solutions to the anthropologist’s topic. He reckons it would be over-fantasizing in order to just only admire the images adolescents creating on the Internet. It would be better to turn their fantasy into motivation to strive for improvement, perhaps they can become what they dream about, and overcome their relationships’ difficulties in physical life. Cyberspace is not “real”, but it has the relationship to the real. It is undeniable that the in virtual space, people will have more confidence of showing of themselves, being who they are selectively, overcoming of fear to make a conversation. Individuals try to escape their shyness and low self-esteem. In 2015, the anthropologist answered to a interview question that she did not have intention to give up her phone (even after mentioning numerous miserable people in her books), she just needed to make use of positive advantages of it, restated Turkle (Adams, 2015).
Against the opinion of professor of MIT, Stafford, a cognitive scientist, argues that Turkle’s assumptions are old wine in new bottle. He reckons that Turkle’s argument seems to state that there was never a time human trying to escape from frailty and ambiguity, dissatisfactory relationships. “It isn’t that we are newly dissatisfied with our relationships, that we are newly struggling for authenticity. The eternal uncertainties we have of ourselves and each other are given a new light by technology” says Stafford (2011). When people have problem with their relationships or identity, they either find a way to solve it or run from it. Difference than before is, now, people having a place to do it. They transfer their problem from real life to virtual world. Of course, it is often better or fantasy version of themselves.
People have found a new way of communication and they are making the most of it. Individuals on the Internet care about their representation in order to impress other users. Hence, they keep updating things about themselves, others or news. They are not always online, they are distracted by the sense of being online. For instance, students using mobile phones and laptops in Turkle’s class, people texting in conferences, this phenomenon happens everywhere. If not for mobile, students will be distracted by their friends or things outside, they are not concentrating. It is unwise to equaling impulsive needs and habit to addiction, or converting negative reactions of people to harmful technology. Technology is not bad, bad application makes it bad. Technology does not seduce anyone, people are using it without disciplines.
However, excessively virtual living (act of spending too much time on the Internet, overconfidence of appearance and self-esteem) results in losing sense of identity in real world. Virtual space now will give them a sense of “influencer”, which is illusion of power.
On the point of the breakdown of individual’s emotional relationship with human and more of virtual intimacy. She reasons that true relationships, “between what is true and what is “true here,” true in simulation” (2011, pp.153), “the network prepares us for the “relationships with less” (less risks and pain)” (2011, pp. 154), “Research portrays Americans as increasingly insecure, isolated, and lonely” (2011, pp. 157). Turkle expects that people will start to reclaim their privacy, to turn back to their relationships with physical people; still, she reckons that the seduction of technology is a tough challenge (Lange, 2013). In another interview, she adds that she brings up and builds her relationship with her daughters not to depends on too much on technologies (Adams, 2015).
Courrier (2011) agrees with her on this because human’s virtual relationship cannot provide “surprises and the rough patches of looking at the world from another’s point of view, shaped by history, biology, trauma, and job.” Love relationship requires mutual combination of minds, physical affection, physical dedication to each other.
On the contrary, “now we wish for romantic relationships without betrayal and inconvenience, previously this is what we wished for too”, rebuts Stafford (2011). It is mighty irksome that Turkle assumes vagueness, disappointment and fear of disconnection are not a novel part of online relationships; they are part of the human condition (Stafford, 2011). Turkle’s acrimonious arguments easily lead to harsh refutation.
Technology’s nature is to help people’s lives better, hence, having the idea of refuting it is wrong. To make the best use of virtual world, individuals must have sufficient knowledge to understand how they effect on it and how it impacts back on them. Take time to use the Internet, do not let the Internet take your time.
Constant reliance on communication technologies cannot replace physical interaction in human relationship. Equivalence the downsides of cyberspace to society’s vices makes Turkle’s books pessimistic and negative to read, although they are valuable to the way we use technologies to complete our identity.
