Cute artisan keycaps for my keyboard to remember my deceased animal family members

A follow up to my previous post about artisan keycaps! I have been experimenting with artisan keycaps lately and it's been really fun. Artisan keycaps are that little bit of touch you can add to personalise your mechanical keyboard even more.

I've been using clay for them and have made a few. I originally wanted to make them as I thought it would be a nice way to remember animal family members/pets that are no longer with us. I did make a few of Studio Ghibli characters, such as Blue Totoro and Catbus.

Light brown bunny: Latte, our 8.5 year old mini lop rabbit.

Black and white bunny: Bunini, our bunny that we decided to euthanise because she had the horrible virus, Myxomatosis. A man-made pest killer (rabbits are pests in Australia) and the government in Australia does not allow the vaccine. January 2015 - February 2022.

Blue Totoro: From Hayao Miyazaki’s, “My Neighbour Totoro”. I really like Blue Totoro and would like to make Totoro in the future.

Catbus: Also from Hayao Miyazaki’s, “My Neighbour Totoro”. I am a big fan of Catbus! Sadly, I forgot to add in the little pink mice, I will next time.

Is there anything you plan on doing differently with Clay in your rewrite?

good question! clay isn't majorly different, but i think the biggest changes with him concern the end of the dragonet prophecy & his relationship to peril.

his arc is simple - it's about seeing the goodness in the world and deciding to actively fight for it, while also recognizing his kindness as a blessing rather than a flaw. this culminates at the end of the dragonet prophecy when the dragonets shelter in a mudwing cathedral after fleeing the sky kingdom.

while there, they see that there's parts of the world worth saving: friendly dragons helping each other just because they want to. not everybody is a bloodthirsty queen or soldier, and not everybody wants to hurt them. the head of the cathedral (arch-deacon analog) also recognizes them from the prophecy, but instead of making a big deal out of it she just quietly encourages them.

the dragons at the cathedral also recognize the d.o.d. as clay's sibs and address him as their bigwings! this is a replacement for clay meeting his biological sibs - i wanted to stress the dragonets' bond at the end of book1 rather than his sibs, who i don't find super interesting in canon. this way, the dragonet prophecy ends with the d.o.d. finding a real reason to save pyrrhia & clay recognizing himself as a good, capable dragon and the bigwings of his sibs.

as for peril - her and clay have a sibling dynamic! cleril is fine, but i dislike how tui handles romance & i think a sibling bond is more beneficial to peril's arc. clay is demiromantic and has no romantic interests during the story.

CLAY AND TSUNAMI BELOVEDS!!!!!!

my boy clay!!! i love him and he's my little guy. i found him really difficult to crack when i started my rewrite, because he's a somewhat simple character, but i've got a good handle on him now! i like him as this chill guy who does his best to be kind, despite all the stuff he's witnessed. also he looks soooo cool like all mudwings, i think he could use more depth in canon, buuut i also think it's good for his arc to be simple because the other dragonets have so much going on... also i'm not big on shipping him. or any of the dragonets really... i prefer him & peril having a sibling dynamic, which is how i portray them in my rewrite. no problem if you like cleril as romantic, it's just not my cup of tea! i wish this bingo card didnt say "hate" for ships LMAO

TSUNAMI!!!!!!! holy cow i have a lot for her in my rewrite & she's become one of my favorite characters through it. she's so awesome... tsutsu my best friend. i love her family dynamics, her anger, her drive to make change... i am holding her up like a kitty cat i think tsunami could use some more depth (hehe ocean pun) in her family relationships, but the lost heir is also my favorite arc 1 book so i think it's handled well enough in canon. the whole seawing royal family deserves more content though... winglet collection of seawing royal family drama anyone?! i have sooo many thoughts about her and her siblings and parents i cant wait to share them :] also i headcanon her as autistic! i myself am autistic & i put a lot of my own autistic traits into her when i write her. she has special interests in battle tactics/weaponry and seabirds!

Hey everyone, long time no post! I've been meaning to create some artisan keycaps for awhile now and I finally made some a few months ago. Made some of our bunnies, Latte and Bunini (no longer with us :().

Currently still prototyping and going through the design process. The first one I made, I didn't really measure and just wanted to play around with the painting process. I removed the cheeks as it just wouldn't fit (too bulky).

Still wanting to try a few different coating options and see what works well. Lop eared bunnies make it a little more difficult lol! I was originally wanting the ears to stick out a little more but it just creates a greater possibility for breakage.

I want to try making some different animals later on and some family pets who are no longer with us.
