JOJOLands Theory: A Case for Acca Howler as Part 9's Main Villain

Chapter 21 of Part 9 (and every chapter release in general) has changed my brain chemistry and I need to talk about it desperately

Spoilers for The JOJOLands Chapter 21 (and all JoJo parts) below the cut!

Howler as a Budding Villain

As of JOJOLands chapter 21, Acca Howler has had a very interesting yet not very impressive showing for the audience. He's nothing like any other JoJo antagonists, even the secondary mid-part antagonists.

He lacks the imposive and authoritative aura that the others have. In fact, he appears more like a naive and spoiled brat (fun fact: he is older than Pucci). He does not remember who he's hired to do his bidding, and seems to have even less backbone than his subordinates (compare this to the likes of DIO and Diavolo, who incited loyalty and struck fear into their underlings). Key West has to basically tell him "stop being a little wimp and lock in, you're supposed to be the final boss."

Howler's introduction is also him being instantly put on the backfoot from the main gang's actions. Compare this to the introductions of any part's major antagonists; even one of the less intimidating villains like Red Hot Chili Pepper from Part 4 immediately killed Keicho, showing him as a force to be reckoned with.

Right now, Howler is a manchild who is already folding under the first bit of pressure from the protagonists. He is not worthy of the title of main part villain; he's barely even worthy of being a mid-part antagonist. By the end of the story, however, I believe he will certainly be one of the two. He just has too much backstory and importance just for him to be discarded within the next few arcs.

Howler will need to go through a lot of pains and trials, but I think he still has strong potential to become Part 9's main villain. Araki's plans for Jodio involve his "journey of growth" into the more heroic figure of a Joestar from his current state as a "scumbag". Howler could develop in parallel with him to become worthy of the status of "Final Boss".

Howler with an ACT Stand?

To complement a possible character development arc for Howler, it would be perfect for him to have an evolving Stand; specifically, an ACT stand.

ACT Stands have historically been used in JoJo to demonstrate major character growth over time in their users. Both Koichi and Johnny started out weak-willed at the beginning of their parts compared to their Stand user contemporaries, but by the end become among the bravest and most selfless of them.

I believe that Howler, as of now, has too weak of a will to be the owner of a powerful Stand. That may be why it only manifested partially in chapter 17 in response to his strong emotions (like Koichi in early Part 4 summoning egg Echoes).

It will take a massive turnaround on Howler's part if he has to turn from a manchild to someone who can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with villains like DIO. Not only would Howler having an ACT Stand be the perfect way to visualize that development, it would also serve to continously raise the stakes for our protagonists.

SpeKculation for Howler's Stand Name

What name Howler's Stand will have is unpredictable. It could be a King Crimson (KC) song since Howler is a reference to them, but Part 9 has been 50/50 so far with character's names matching musical references with their Stands.

(honestly this section is partly me coping for another KC reference and mostly an excuse for me to talk about KC lmao)

King Crimson's 80s era released a trilogy of albums, the first two of which have already been referenced in Part 9 (Matte Kudasai from Discipline and The Howler from Beat). Thus it stands to reason to complete the trilogy of references with the third album: Three of a Perfect Pair. There are two JOJOLands theory videos by BatuTetric (1 and 2) that talk more about this; they are interesting and I recommend that any Part 9 fans watch them.

On that third album is the track Larks' Tongues in Aspic, Part 3, the third installment in a five-part series of songs spread out over KC's discography. It would be a great name for an evolving Stand, going from Part 1 all the way to Level Five.

This additional fact may just be a funny coincidence, but Howler also does seem to have an obsession with feeding himself and his flight attendants/lovers fancy dashi stock (broth). Aspic is broth set into a gelatinous form (usually with other foods placed inside it). The name Larks' Tongues in Aspic evokes the vibes of some exotic and expensive dish, which seems like the type of name that a rich brat like Howler would pick.

Ghiaccio's White Album is probably a really convenient Stand to have around with Grateful Dead. I imagine he could keep the rest of the group from aging so it can specifically kill the target while keeping the members of La Squadra safe from harm's way. (I kinda wonder what the Grateful Dead fight would've looked like with Ghiaccio there or what missions would look like with him and Prosciutto paired up instead. There would be no need for the freakout over losing ice cubes and Bruno's group would probably try to use the freezing ability as refuge only for Ghiaccio to go "Ha! No, sucker!" and reverse the effect or just start freezing them to death or something)

It’s time for a theory, a Game Jojo Theory

In Part 5, there was originally a plan for Fugo to instead of leaving the group, betray it and try to kill them. This plan never went through, and it was ultimately for the better, since we got Purple Haze Feedback out of it. However, there’s a trend I’m noticing.

2 stands in Part 9 are named King Crimson. Part 9 is AU Part 5. King Crimson was the main villain’s stand of Part 5. So far, the two KC references are from the Discipline Ära. Mattekudasai, the stand of Usagi is a reference to Discipline, and Howler, who is being set up to be the main villain of the part, is a reference to Beat. There’s one more album, Three Of A Perfect Pair, about how there’s always two perfect matches and a third thing missing to fully complete something. Do you see where I’m going with this?

Thematically, it would make sense if there was no actual third KC stand user. I propose Usagi is AU Fugo. I propose Usagi is a traitor working for Howler Corporation. It would shatter a lot of important dynamics that are being developed. It would be tragic. Which is an Araki ass move if I’ve ever heard one

Comparing King Crimson to other powerful Stand abilities (or abilities in general) makes me think of how interesting KC is in terms of power. Its ability is kind of insane in that it can make Diavolo pretty much invulnerable to almost if not all forms of attack (unless the ability is more fate-cancelling like GER, which was literally designed by the narrative to be the only thing that could actually beat King Crimson in Vento Aureo).

At the same time, in terms of destructive power, it isn't really much of anything special, which is a stand-out to other main Jojo villain stands. It attacks just as much as it needs to kill a person fast and brutally and then it's over. If we're going by how it's animated in the show, we see KC's arm push and struggle a bit to get through bodies, unlike something like The World which can gut instantly. It is primarily designed to protect, conceal, and confuse, which is why its attack is effective, not because it has so much brute power.

In other words, while actually killing Diavolo with King Crimson would be insanely difficult to 99+% of Jojo characters, I think he would have trouble killing people like DIO or Kars if they were theoretically to get into a fight. If the character had a fast regenerative/strong resistance ability to where a simple punch through the gut wouldn't do them in I don't see how Diavolo could really win the fight unless "surviving and escaping" counts as a non-loss.

Stands are dragons AU

It's a Jojo AU where stands are dragons. That's it. Because dragons are cool and if you disagree you're wrong and there's the door. This is random headcanons and basic info. Stream of consciousness I have no organization. This AU exists on rule of cool.

It's a soul link between master and dragon, they are hatched at the same time the master is born.

The arrows force a dragon from the soul of someone who doesn't have one. That's why they kill those who aren't "worthy"

There's no secret about being a dragon master. They're always there and everyone can see them

Grateful Dead and Purple Haze are lindwyrms. Similar species but not the same. GD has feathers on his legs creating false wings and PH does not.

The stand powers are adapted into the dragon; PH's virus is in his breath- think smoke instead of fire. Crazy Diamond's healing comes from his breath but only through his nose. He has to huff on people to heal them.

GER is. Massive. Long as a city block, wingspan of two. Tail is supper fluttery like fabric and her scales now shimmer in the sunlight. Any group she's with is a Glory because of how regal she is. Her wings are segmented and iridescent like a dragonfly.

A group of dragons is a Thunder no matter what species or size they are, because the sound of their wings sounds like thunder.

Dragons can't speak. Their masters still understand them though. It's not a telepathic speaking in your mind situation, it's just the vibes.

Suit stands are all flightless species. White Album is a drake. She has the ice powers that the stand does and her claws are specially evolved to skate on ice. She has fur around her neck and down her back, it's very warm and soft.

Colonies have a hivemind and are 2-10 little dragons that hatch from the same egg. Sometimes there's more but that's extremely rare. Metallica are 10, they look like tiny lizards. They're constantly moving around and crawling on another dragon or on Risotto.

Group of dragon masters riding their dragons go brrr... MiTM and Little Feet are the only dragons in La Squadra that can fly + are big enough to carry people. MiTM can carry two, LF can only carry Formaggio.

Babyface can fly but she's too smol. She's the size of a small dog.

Alternately almost all the dragons of team Bucci can fly and carry someone. PH can fit two if he has to, MB can fit three, and SF can fit two. Pistols are way too tiny to carry anyone, so is Aerosmith. GE can carry two, GER can carry the entire team and more. MB is the second largest after GER and it's a massive difference.

SP are small enough that they can just fly between GER's teeth if she chomps down around them. This is now they play do not worry, she is not trying to eat them.

Splat and World are two different subspecies of the same breed.

Colonies have very small differences between each dragon, like how SP has numbers and different eye patterns in canon. As dragons, they still have the different eye patterns, but also general patterns (different kinds of spots or stripes, number 5 has Okapi patterns)

The soul link between them causes the dragon to die shortly after the master does and vice versa. It's not immediate but it's within a day.

Don't ask me how WoU works I have no idea. I have to ponder. I have to read SBR and Jojolion first.

Echoes and Tusk and other stands with Acts function similarly, with the evolution to their master's soul, but previous acts disappear since the dragons themselves are shifting and changing. The physical differences are less pronounced.

KC and Epitaph are two different dragons. Epitaph is a very small breed that can sit on KC's head, settled in between KC's "crown" in a way that makes it look like they're the same.

Dragons of families are also family. IE; Stone Free is Splat's daughter. Which is... The most simple of the Joestar family dragons. GE is The World's daughter and Under World, Sky High, and BR's sister.

A not so astute observation about Vampires in popular media

Twilight: Vampires pining for humans. Forbidden romances, love triangles, drama, with hints of anti-racism/war themes. Was scrumptious when younger, didn't age the best. But very memorable.

Hellsing/Hellsing Ultimate: Oh yeah, Alucard basically dive-bombs with a jet into a N*zi-Occupied ship to kill other vampires. And N*zis. Alnd also, Alucard is British and works for the Queen of Fucking England.

So when you say "I like vampires in media!", Imma need you to specify which ones.
