JOJOLands Theory: A Case for Acca Howler as Part 9's Main Villain

Chapter 21 of Part 9 (and every chapter release in general) has changed my brain chemistry and I need to talk about it desperately

Spoilers for The JOJOLands Chapter 21 (and all JoJo parts) below the cut!

Howler as a Budding Villain

As of JOJOLands chapter 21, Acca Howler has had a very interesting yet not very impressive showing for the audience. He's nothing like any other JoJo antagonists, even the secondary mid-part antagonists.

He lacks the imposive and authoritative aura that the others have. In fact, he appears more like a naive and spoiled brat (fun fact: he is older than Pucci). He does not remember who he's hired to do his bidding, and seems to have even less backbone than his subordinates (compare this to the likes of DIO and Diavolo, who incited loyalty and struck fear into their underlings). Key West has to basically tell him "stop being a little wimp and lock in, you're supposed to be the final boss."

Howler's introduction is also him being instantly put on the backfoot from the main gang's actions. Compare this to the introductions of any part's major antagonists; even one of the less intimidating villains like Red Hot Chili Pepper from Part 4 immediately killed Keicho, showing him as a force to be reckoned with.

Right now, Howler is a manchild who is already folding under the first bit of pressure from the protagonists. He is not worthy of the title of main part villain; he's barely even worthy of being a mid-part antagonist. By the end of the story, however, I believe he will certainly be one of the two. He just has too much backstory and importance just for him to be discarded within the next few arcs.

Howler will need to go through a lot of pains and trials, but I think he still has strong potential to become Part 9's main villain. Araki's plans for Jodio involve his "journey of growth" into the more heroic figure of a Joestar from his current state as a "scumbag". Howler could develop in parallel with him to become worthy of the status of "Final Boss".

Howler with an ACT Stand?

To complement a possible character development arc for Howler, it would be perfect for him to have an evolving Stand; specifically, an ACT stand.

ACT Stands have historically been used in JoJo to demonstrate major character growth over time in their users. Both Koichi and Johnny started out weak-willed at the beginning of their parts compared to their Stand user contemporaries, but by the end become among the bravest and most selfless of them.

I believe that Howler, as of now, has too weak of a will to be the owner of a powerful Stand. That may be why it only manifested partially in chapter 17 in response to his strong emotions (like Koichi in early Part 4 summoning egg Echoes).

It will take a massive turnaround on Howler's part if he has to turn from a manchild to someone who can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with villains like DIO. Not only would Howler having an ACT Stand be the perfect way to visualize that development, it would also serve to continously raise the stakes for our protagonists.

SpeKculation for Howler's Stand Name

What name Howler's Stand will have is unpredictable. It could be a King Crimson (KC) song since Howler is a reference to them, but Part 9 has been 50/50 so far with character's names matching musical references with their Stands.

(honestly this section is partly me coping for another KC reference and mostly an excuse for me to talk about KC lmao)

King Crimson's 80s era released a trilogy of albums, the first two of which have already been referenced in Part 9 (Matte Kudasai from Discipline and The Howler from Beat). Thus it stands to reason to complete the trilogy of references with the third album: Three of a Perfect Pair. There are two JOJOLands theory videos by BatuTetric (1 and 2) that talk more about this; they are interesting and I recommend that any Part 9 fans watch them.

On that third album is the track Larks' Tongues in Aspic, Part 3, the third installment in a five-part series of songs spread out over KC's discography. It would be a great name for an evolving Stand, going from Part 1 all the way to Level Five.

This additional fact may just be a funny coincidence, but Howler also does seem to have an obsession with feeding himself and his flight attendants/lovers fancy dashi stock (broth). Aspic is broth set into a gelatinous form (usually with other foods placed inside it). The name Larks' Tongues in Aspic evokes the vibes of some exotic and expensive dish, which seems like the type of name that a rich brat like Howler would pick.

Ghiaccio's White Album is probably a really convenient Stand to have around with Grateful Dead. I imagine he could keep the rest of the group from aging so it can specifically kill the target while keeping the members of La Squadra safe from harm's way. (I kinda wonder what the Grateful Dead fight would've looked like with Ghiaccio there or what missions would look like with him and Prosciutto paired up instead. There would be no need for the freakout over losing ice cubes and Bruno's group would probably try to use the freezing ability as refuge only for Ghiaccio to go "Ha! No, sucker!" and reverse the effect or just start freezing them to death or something)

Świętujemy rok utrzymania wagi!!! 🎉

Dla przypomnienia:

Tak wyglądałam kiedyś, a tak wyglądam dziś po roku od zakończenia diety. (tak mam nadal tę koszulkę, bo to ona zainspirowała mnie by w końcu coś że sobą zrobić)

Bloga o 0dchudzaniu już nie ma niestety i tak z pamięci nie mogę wam podać jak to dokładnie czasowo wypadło. Ale pamiętałam ilość dni na liczniku więc dziś minęło ich 365 - rok. Samo chudnięcie też zajęło mi prawie rok.

Dlaczego:

Utrzymanie wagi - ważna cześć odchudzania. Nie jestem już od dawna "pro" ani nie mianuję się "motyk1em", więc wiedziałam, że muszę kiedyś odchudzanie zakończyć. Ale mając za sobą historie 3D wiedziałam też, że proces gubienia zbędnych kilogramów i coraz mniejsze numerki - działają jak narkotyk.

Nie wybrałam ścieżki 3D tym razem, choć różne myśli mi krążyły po głowie.

A skoro krążyły, to po zakończeniu odchudzania, konieczność zakończenia redukcji i zwiekszania kalorii szła mi opornie.

Lęki, cele i granice:

Zwiększałam kalor1e o 50 co dwa tygodnie. Tempo oczywiście było zdecydowanie za wolne co owocowalo dalszym spadkiem wagi. Gdzieś tam podskórnie oczywiście nie miałam nic przeciwko. Wszak DawnooTemu też podobało mi się, że jestem bardzo szczupła i to się nie zmieniło. Ale tym razem wychudz0na być nie chciałam.

Wiedziałam, że dla dobra własnej głowy i ciała muszę zostać w granicy normalnego BMI. Takim magicznym numerkiem jest dla mnie BMI 19.00.

Później widząc, że w@ga dalej spada i oczywiście bojąc się jeść więcej zaprzeglam technikę liczenia głównych posiłków, a brakujące kalorie dobijałam pijąc olej lniany i jedząc migdały ( bez liczenia). Wiele razy byłam krytykowana za ten sposób, ale nadal szukałam złotego środka. Cały czas poziom leku był ogromny. Jak tylko aplikacja pokazywała coś koło 1800 to zaczynałam panikować.

Największy przełom nastąpił chyba w styczniu tego roku. Jeszcze raz policzyłam swoje całkowite zapotrzebowanie (2100 kc@l) i stwierdziłam, że nie będę się oszukiwać, że chce w@żyć 65 czy 67. Postanowiłam trzymać się widełek 58 kg (dolna granica mojej wag1 normalnej) - 61kg. Po środku tego wszystkiego jest właśnie BMI 19. Przy kategorycznym, wewnętrznym zakazie schodzenia poniżej BMI 18.5. Przeorganizowałam też bloga i zaczęłam się skupiać na całości dziennych kcal w apce zamiast poszczególnych posilkach. Wcześniej jak jakiś posiłek wychodził mi powyżej 400 kcal to miałam takie myśli: "obżerasz się" - teraz już na to tak bardzo nie patrze.

To jest możliwe:

Pułapka odchudzania bez końca w przypadku 3D to norma. Nikt nie zatrzymuje się na swoim UGW bo sam proces jest fascynujący i wciągający. A jak już osiągasz te swoją ekstremalna UGW to nie ma opcji, że nagle zaczniesz jeść więcej. Pojawia się następne UGW i tak bez końca.

Dla mnie to też, była nowość - spróbować wagę utrzymać. Jeść więcej i normalniej. Mniej liczyć kalorie (niestety nie w ogóle), a bardziej zdać się na to jak zmieniłam swój sposób jedzenia. Pozwolić sobie od czasu do czasu na coś więcej. Żyć normalniej. No i co - udaje mi się? Myślę że przez większość czasu tak. Choć oczywiście swoje lęki nadal mam. Boję się tycia i nawet w tej swojej dozwolone granicy krzywię się za każdym razem kiedy w@ga rośnie. To muszę być z wami szczera.

Efekt jojo:

Czemu ludzie tyją po diecie? Trudno nie utyc wracając do starych nawyków. Kluczem jest podczas odchudzania nauczyć się nawyków nowych, a po zakończeniu diety nadal się ich trzymać. Wiem, że łatwo powiedzieć. A tak w ogóle to...

Ciężka praca:

Jeśli myślicie, że utrzymanie wagi to luzik i spacerek po parku, a odchudzanie było trudne, to muszę wam niestety uświadomić to, że tak nie jest. Nadal trzeba się pilnować z jedzeniem. Kalor1e też trzeba liczyć... chociażby na oko. Kontrolować w@gę i w to w przypadku obu opcji - zarówno spadku jak i wzrostu. Ale są też

Zalety i fajne rzeczy:

Przede wszystkim można odpuścić sobie nadmierna kontrolę wagi. Teraz ważę się co dwa tygodnie. Dłuzszy okres daje wymierne wyniki. Przez dwa tygodnie można zobaczyć czy się coś spieprzyło ale też sporo naprawić. Oczywiście normalna ilość kc@1 daje większe pole do popisu jeśli chodzi o różnorodność i wielkość posiłków. Nie trzeba żyć na samej trawie (choć ja w sumie zawsze jadłam "na bogato"). Nie trzeba już tak obsesyjnie licząc wszystkiego. Ja na przykład mam teraz takie podejście do warzyw, wiecie już nie zamęczam się o te 100g brokuła.

Dni Bez Liczenia i Cheat Day:

To jest mój autorski pomysł na powrót do względnej normalności. DBLK na początku był tylko raz w tygodniu (obecnie jest ich osiem, a będzie więcej) i dwa razy w miesiącu Cheat Day by uspokoić wewnętrznego żarłoka i zjeść coś niezdrowego, zakazanego raz na jakiś czas. W Dni Bez Liczenia staram się jeść tak jak w dni kiedy liczę - różnica jest tylko taka że nic nie ważę, ani nie obliczam. Cheat Day jest teraz tylko raz w miesiącu (okazało się z czasem, że nie mam już takiej potrzeby) - liczę wtedy kc@l. Może to masochizm ale "lubię" sobie przypominać dlaczego Cheat Day-a nie mogę mieć codziennie 😅.

Co dalej?:

Dalej to samo. Nadal planuje się z wami dzielić codziennymi wpisami. Właściwie robię to już tak długo, że ciężko przestać. Ale właściwie to lubię. Posty co prawda zrobiły się trochę o dupie maryni i chyba brak już tego dramatyzmu co dawniej, kiedy kilogramy gubiłam, ale mam nadzieję że nadal znajdujecie u mnie coś ciekawego do poczytania.

It’s time for a theory, a Game Jojo Theory

In Part 5, there was originally a plan for Fugo to instead of leaving the group, betray it and try to kill them. This plan never went through, and it was ultimately for the better, since we got Purple Haze Feedback out of it. However, there’s a trend I’m noticing.

2 stands in Part 9 are named King Crimson. Part 9 is AU Part 5. King Crimson was the main villain’s stand of Part 5. So far, the two KC references are from the Discipline Ära. Mattekudasai, the stand of Usagi is a reference to Discipline, and Howler, who is being set up to be the main villain of the part, is a reference to Beat. There’s one more album, Three Of A Perfect Pair, about how there’s always two perfect matches and a third thing missing to fully complete something. Do you see where I’m going with this?

Thematically, it would make sense if there was no actual third KC stand user. I propose Usagi is AU Fugo. I propose Usagi is a traitor working for Howler Corporation. It would shatter a lot of important dynamics that are being developed. It would be tragic. Which is an Araki ass move if I’ve ever heard one

A not so astute observation about Vampires in popular media

Twilight: Vampires pining for humans. Forbidden romances, love triangles, drama, with hints of anti-racism/war themes. Was scrumptious when younger, didn't age the best. But very memorable.

Hellsing/Hellsing Ultimate: Oh yeah, Alucard basically dive-bombs with a jet into a N*zi-Occupied ship to kill other vampires. And N*zis. Alnd also, Alucard is British and works for the Queen of Fucking England.

So when you say "I like vampires in media!", Imma need you to specify which ones.

Comparing King Crimson to other powerful Stand abilities (or abilities in general) makes me think of how interesting KC is in terms of power. Its ability is kind of insane in that it can make Diavolo pretty much invulnerable to almost if not all forms of attack (unless the ability is more fate-cancelling like GER, which was literally designed by the narrative to be the only thing that could actually beat King Crimson in Vento Aureo).

At the same time, in terms of destructive power, it isn't really much of anything special, which is a stand-out to other main Jojo villain stands. It attacks just as much as it needs to kill a person fast and brutally and then it's over. If we're going by how it's animated in the show, we see KC's arm push and struggle a bit to get through bodies, unlike something like The World which can gut instantly. It is primarily designed to protect, conceal, and confuse, which is why its attack is effective, not because it has so much brute power.

In other words, while actually killing Diavolo with King Crimson would be insanely difficult to 99+% of Jojo characters, I think he would have trouble killing people like DIO or Kars if they were theoretically to get into a fight. If the character had a fast regenerative/strong resistance ability to where a simple punch through the gut wouldn't do them in I don't see how Diavolo could really win the fight unless "surviving and escaping" counts as a non-loss.
