وقد أشار ابن مفلح المقدسي رحمه الله إلى أن المحبة للقبيلة والأهل والأقارب، التي لا يحصل بسببها ظلم للآخرين، ليست من العصبية المذمومة، فقال: "ولأحمد وابن ماجه عن واثلة: قلت: يا رسول الله، أمن العصبية أن يحب الرجل قومه؟ قال: ((لا، ولكن من العصبية أن ينصر الرجلُ قومَه على الظلم)

Dalam banyak riwayat, pernah ada pasukan nabi palsu Musailamah Al Kazzab yang ditanya, "Apakah engkau mengimani Musailamah?"

.

Mereka menjawab, "Demi Allah kami tahu bahwa Musailamah itu pendusta, namun pendusta dari suku Rabi'ah lebih kami sukai daripada orang jujur dari suku Mudhar."

.

Karena itulah Islam sangat melarang fanatisme. Diriwayatkan dari Imam Ahmad dan Ibnu Majah, seorang laki-laki bertanya pada Rasulullah, "Wahai Rasul, apakah seseorang mencintai kaumnya merupakan fanatisme?"

.

Rasulullah menjawab, "Tidak. Yang dimaksud fanatisme adalah ketika seseorang menolong kaumnya dalam kezaliman."
