The official X/Twitter account for the One Piece franchise has announced that voice actor Kazuki Yao will step down and "graduate" from the role of Franky in the franchise, and will be replaced. The announcement stated this decision was the result of a long discussion process.

The stage presentation for One Piece that will be held at the Jump Festa '25 event on December 22, 2024 will announce the successor to the role, and will also serve as a "graduation ceremony" for Yao.

A sad farewell has come, a separation with a person I have spent nearly a quarter of a century with. It's like an out-of-body experience, but I feel a gap has formed between me and my ideal Franky, so I've decided to depart from the Thousand Sunny for now. It's frustrating! It's sad!! I am so sorry, but I've prepared a suuuuppeeerr successor Looking forward to 12/22 JF!~♬

As sad as this news is, because of the history he has with OP and of how perfect and iconic his voice is, if the man can't go on anymore, he just can't go on.

I did! It’s sad but not surprising.

Also bc I there was discussions about the voice actors with the new Netflix anime… it might just be the fact that none of them is exactly young.

Anyway, the good man is 65 which is a good time to go into retirement. It’s sad though because he did not sound like he wants to stop working.

I hope whatever his reason is he finds happiness how he gave us happiness.

I’ve not seen much talk about it, but Kazuki Yao, the Japanese VA for Franky, Bon Clay and Jango will be retiring from these roles and his new va should be revealed soon

It really is the end of an era man, even though I watch dub, the first voices that come to mind when seeing Franky and Bon will always be his voice saying “SUUUPER” or “OKAMA WAY” I hope he has a wonderful retirement, thank you for 25 years of your amazing work Kazuki❤️
