you were sitting in the private jet, it would be a few hours till you’d land in the philippines. you looked to the back to see alexia sleeping with ana marie cuddled into her.

ana marie was the exact carbon copy of the two of you. she had your eyes and nose, but she had alexia’s hair and mouth shape. you softly smiled seeing the cute scene, alexia was the one who suggested to visit your home country for the first time.

after all, your daughter is reaching her sixth month. and her grandparents are so excited to see their little heiress, it was decided that ana marie would inherit your parents company.

you protested not wanting her life to be controlled, but your parents had agreed that she could live her life how she wants it. if she wanted to pursue a sport then she could, but she’d also have to run the company at the same time. quite hectic, is it not?

your thoughts were cut out as you heard someone calling you, it was your mother.

“anak, asan na kayo? [child, where are you now?]” your mother asked, as you hummed.

“nasa eroplano pa kami, ma. [we are still on the plane.” your mother hummed.

“ma, it’s not needed po. i can drive there naman.” you talked with your mother for a few moments before she hung up as she had to go to work.

you opened your laptop preparing to do some work, and in that amount of time, the jet has landed. the pilot exited his cockpit, as you stood up packing things away.

“mahal?” you called out, wondering if alexia was awake. she was as she gently carried ana marie in her arms.

“vamos.” alexia said as you chuckled at her behavior, the bags were already placed into your car, as you opened the passenger seat for alexia who gave you a soft kiss on the cheek.

the trip to the house wasn’t that long, there would usually would be traffic as you lived in metro manila but for some reason, there wasn’t any which you were thankful for. traffic in the philippines was such a hassle, you didn’t want your child waking up in between.

as you pulled up, you noticed the silhouette of your parents waiting at the porch. alexia was the first one to get out, greeting your parents along with a certain mini you.

while you had gotten the bags from the trunk, you were pulled into a hug as soon as you were in your parent’s view.

“anak, miss ka namin. kamusta naman sa barcelona? [child, we miss you. how is it at barcelona?]” your mother said, as you hummed.

“it’s really great, ma. parehas lang yung weather. [the weather is the same].” your mother hummed as she pulled you all inside.

you slowly went up the stairs, careful not to trip or fall. it was just as you remembered, the posters filled on the wall.

the medals you won from football tournaments during your studies in the states. you’ve joined your middle school, high school and college varsity team. you also played for a youth team as well.

the different colored medals were on display, the trophies had a specific shelf and the academic awards were also there.

“it’s still the same, huh.” you said, before joining your parents in the living room. alexia was chatting with them, while ana had just woken up from her nap.

the whole time of the trip, you’ve gotten to introduce alexia to the filipino culture, the crusine more specifically dishes like sinigang also known as sour soup, adobo which is braised pork, and etc.

you also visited a few clubs like stallion laguna fc or kaya-iloilo, clubs that your national teammates play in. they were quite surprised when they saw alexia knowing she’s considered as la reina. but it was a notable experience, alexia got to see you coach for the first time. in her words, it was extremely attractive for her.

The roar of engines echoed through the paddock as I made my way to the team garage, the adrenaline still pumping from the morning’s practice session.

Being an F1 driver had always been my dream, and now that I was living it, there was nothing like the thrill of the track. But today wasn’t just about racing; today was about introducing Hector to my world.

He’d been so excited when I invited him to the Grand Prix, and I was eager to introduce him to the other drivers—especially the Spanish ones, Carlos Sainz and Fernando Alonso.

But as we walked through the paddock together, hand in hand, I could sense a bit of nervousness in Hector.

He might be a Barcelona player, accustomed to huge crowds and intense matches, but F1 was a whole different atmosphere.

“Ready to meet the guys?” I asked, squeezing his hand reassuringly.

Fernando’s eyebrows shot up, and Carlos’s grin widened mischievously. “Hector Fort, the Barcelona player?” Fernando asked, his tone a mix of surprise and mock offense.

I nodded, but before I could say anything else, Carlos threw his hands up in mock outrage. “Oh no, no, no! How could you, Y/N? A Barca player? Of all the people you could date!”

Fernando joined in, shaking his head dramatically. “This is an absolute betrayal. Couldn’t you have found someone like… I don’t know, Arda Güler? A Real Madrid player? At least then we would actually like him.”

Hector stiffened beside me, his grip on my hand tightening slightly. I could see the flicker of insecurity in his eyes, even though he tried to mask it with a polite smile. “I didn’t realize my club affiliation would be such a big deal,” he joked, though there was an edge to his voice.

Carlos and Fernando exchanged a glance, their playful banter suddenly feeling a bit too real. Carlos stepped closer, looking Hector up and down as if sizing him up.

“Barca, huh? You know we’re die-hard Madrid fans, right?”

Hector nodded, his smile wavering slightly. “I’ve heard.”

I could feel the tension building between them, and I hated seeing Hector doubt himself. He was usually so confident, but this situation was clearly getting to him. I decided to step in before things got too uncomfortable.

“Come on, guys,” I said, trying to keep the mood light. “He’s here as my guest, not to debate football rivalries. Besides, he’s a great guy. Give him a chance.”

Carlos looked at Fernando, who shrugged as if to say, “We’ll see.” Then, with a dramatic sigh, Carlos finally broke into a grin. “Alright, alright. Maybe we can overlook the Barca thing… for now.”

Hector’s shoulders relaxed a little, but I could tell he was still on edge. As we walked away from Carlos and Fernando, heading toward my team’s area, Hector glanced at me, his expression troubled.

“Do you think they really don’t like me?” he asked quietly, his earlier confidence completely gone.

I stopped walking and turned to face him, placing my hands on his chest. “Hector, they were just messing with you. Carlos and Fernando are both huge jokers. I’m sure that they didn’t mean anything by it.”

He sighed, looking down at me with uncertainty. “I don’t know… It felt like they were really bothered by it. What if they never accept me because of the team I play for?”

I reached up and cupped his face in my hands, forcing him to meet my eyes. “Listen to me. Anyone who really gets to know you will see what an amazing person you are. If they don’t, then that’s their loss. But I promise you, Carlos and Fernando will come around. They’re just protective of me, and they love to tease. Give it some time.”

Hector looked into my eyes for a long moment before nodding. “Okay… I trust you. But if they keep making comments, I might need you to step in again.”

I smiled, brushing a quick kiss against his lips. “I’ve got your back, don’t worry.

As the day went on, Hector slowly began to relax. He watched me during the qualifying session, cheering me on from the stands, and later we joined the other drivers for a casual dinner.

Carlos and Fernando, true to form, continued their light-hearted ribbing, but this time, Hector seemed to take it in stride. He even started dishing it back, which seemed to earn him some respect.

By the end of the evening, Carlos raised his glass in a toast. “Alright, I admit it. You’re not so bad, Hector. Even if you do play for Barca.”

Fernando nodded in agreement, a rare smile on his face. “Yeah, you’re alright. Just don’t expect us to start rooting for your team.”

Hector laughed, visibly relieved. “I wouldn’t dream of it.”

As we left the dinner and headed back to our hotel, Hector wrapped an arm around me, pulling me close. “I guess I won them over after all,” he said, his voice filled with relief and warmth.

I leaned into him, smiling up at him. “I told you they’d come around. You just had to give them a chance.”

He kissed the top of my head, his earlier worries now completely gone. “I’m lucky to have you by my side, you know that?”

“I know,” I teased, glancing up at him with a grin. “But I’m even luckier to have you.”

Walong taon na rito sina nanay at tatay subalit ito pa lang ang unang pagkakataong naisama nila ako. Nagkaton kasing nagbago ang school calendar ng unibersidad na papasukan ko. Sa halip na sa nakasanayang Hunyo ay sa buwan ng Agosto pa magbubukas ang klase kaya sinamantala namin ang mahaba-habang bakasyon mula sa Abril hanggang huling linggo ng Hulyo upang sa halip na sila ang umuwi sa Pilipinas ay ako ang pinapunta nila sa Barcelona, isa sa pinakakilalang lungsod sa Espanya.

     Sa isang malaking hotel sa Barcelona nagtatrabaho ang aking magulang. Bago pa ako dumating ay inayos na nila ang oras ng kanilang pagpasok upang lagi akong may makasamang isa sa kanila. Magkaiba ang kanilang shift sa trabaho subalit nagawan nila ng paraang tuwing Sabado at Linggo ay maging libre sila pareho para makasama ako. Dahil dito, napasyalan namin ang magagandang lugar sa mga lungsod ng Madrid, Seville, Toledo, at Valencia. Sa apat na buwan ng pamamalagi ko sa Espanya at pamamasyal namin sa iba't ibang lungsod dito ay marami akong natutuhan at naranasan sa kanilang mga kaugalian, kultura, at tradisyon.

Klima at Panahon

    Sa unang buwan ng aking pagbisita (Abril hanggang Hunyo) ay nakaranas ako ng katamtamang panahon. Subalit sa buwan ng Hulyo gayundin daw sa buwan ng Agosto (na hindi ko na inabot) na itinuturing na tag-init sa kanila ay sadyang napakainit ng panahong maihahambing sa ating nararanasan sa Pilipinas sa mga buwan ng Marso at Abril. Sa mga panahong ito'y napakaraming turista ang dumarayo sa Espanya lalo na sa Lungsod ng Barcelona upang mapasyalan ang kanilang magagandang dalampasigang nasa baybayin ng Dagat Mediterranean.

Kultura at tradisyon

    Isa sa ipinagmamalaki ng mga Espanyol ay ang kanilang mayamang kultura at tradisyong nag-uugat pa sa malayong nakaraan. Napakarami nilang museo at mga teatro kung saan masasalamin ang kanilang kasaysayan. May mga araw at oras silang nakalaan para sa libreng pagpasok sa mga museo.     Ang isa sa pinakamagagandang bagay na nakita ko sa Espnaya ay ang kanilang mga gusali. Marami na ring makabagong tahanan at gusali subalit ipinagkakapuri nila ang mga gusaling naitayo pa noong gitnang panahon at nagpapakita ng mayamang kasaysayan ng kanilang lugar. Ilan sa mg aito ang Palacio Real sa Madrid, ang Toledo's Ancient Rooftops sa Toledo, isa sa pinakamatandang lungsod sa Espanya kung saan matatagpuan ang lumang bahay at makasaysayang mga gusali, at ang hindi pa natatapos na Basilica de la Sagrada Familia, isang UNESCO World Heritage Site na sinasabing sinimulang gawin sa pamumuno ng tanyag na arkitektong si Antoni Gaudi noon pang 1883. Ang lumang gusaling dinisenyo rin ni Gaudi sa Barcelona tulad ng Casa Vicens, Casa Battlo, Guell Pavillions, at iba pa ay isa-isa rin naming pinasyalan. Relihiyon o Pananampalataya

    Ang isa sa mga bagay na kapansin-pansin sa Espanya ay ang pagkakaroon ng naglalakihang Simbahang katoliko sa halos lahat ng dako kaya't ang dayuhang manggagawa tulad ng aking magulang na naghahanap ng masisimbahan ay tiyak na hindi mahihirapan. Nakararami pa rin sa mga Espanyol ang Katoliko na nasa humigit kumulang na 80% hanggang 90% ng populasyon subalit marami na ring ibang relihiyon o pananampalataya ang laganap dito tulad ng Islam at ng ibang pananampalatayang Kristiyano gaya ng mga Protestante, Jehova's Witnesses, Mormons, at iba pa. Gayunpaman, sa aming pagsisimba ay napansin kong di tulad ng ating bansa, hindi napupuno ang mga simbahan. Ayon sa aking magulang, kahit malaki ang bilang ng mga Katoliko ay marami sa kanila ang hindi regular na nagsisimba at nagsasagawa lamang ng mga ritwal ng simbahan tulad ng pagbibinyag, pagpapakasal, at pagbabasbas sa namatay.

Ang Kanilang Pagkain at Iba Pang Kaugalian

Umuuwi lang sila upang matulog kapag maghahatinggabi o lagpas hatinggabi na. Sa mga araw na walang pasok ay inaabot sila ng ikatlo o ikaapat ng umaga sa labas ng tahanan at bago umuwi ay karaniwang kumakain uli sila ng churros o tila pahabang donuts na prinito at binudburan ng asukal. Isinasawsaw nila ito sa mainit at malapot na tsokolate. Naiisip kong ang hilig nating mga Pilipino sa pagkain ay namana natin sa mga Espanyol na sumakop sa atin subalit kahit anong gawin kong paggaya sa kaugalian nila kaugnay ng pagkain at pagtulog ay hindi ko talaga kaya. Maging ang magulang kong walong taon na rito ay hindi rin magawa ang nakagawiang ito ng mga Espanyol lalo na ang oras ng pagtulog dahil na rin sa regular na oras ng trabaho nila sa hotel.

Like lakompake. Dito ko lang na-realize yung importance ng get to know each other. Siguro kung ibang babae to, g na agad. Haha Pero almost 1yr din (given the pandemic pa) na ligaw. But hats off sa consistent calls (kahit na madalas di ko masagot kapag di ko feel makipagusap sa mga tao) and openness? Tsaka efforts like bumisita sa bahay minsan since malapit lang golf course? Or siguro kaya ganun siya ka-eager to pursue me kasi he told that he finds me challenging, weird, and too critical? Idk.

Anyway, one more realization, kahit anong asset meron isang tao sa real world (kahit na un ung at par sa standard ng society), kapag inisip mo siya in long-term, kung walang trust, walang peace of mind, walang security, di aligned sa feels and values, or not mutual, wala din talaga. Mahirap ipilit. Di ka din magiging masaya kapag dumating pa sa mundane or even worst-case situations.

Or iba lang talaga yung confidence ko in being capable to provide for myself. Strong independent woman ung peg. Like 6-digits na @ 23? Hahahahaha o diba? Asawa na lang kulang. Charot. Or maybe I just learned how to be happy and contented with what I have. I mean I’m okay with just enough (and I’m sooo thankful to God’s blessing); and having more material things are not important as having your real great love for the rest of your life?

But seriously, don’t settle with a “dreamy” love life, kasi deep down alam mong hindi sya Great love.

I’m still friends with Rissy even if they (Pao & Rissy) broke up months ago.
