Residents of a small town in Egypt are in shock after a local pond filled with acidic water.

The pond, located near the town of El-Kawm in the governorate of Asyut, has reportedly been filled with acidic water that is causing significant damage to the surrounding area. The acidity of the water is so high that it is burning the skin of locals who come into contact with it.

The cause of the pond's acidic water is still unknown, though some locals have speculated that it may be related to the nearby El-Kawm oil field.

Local authorities have warned people to keep their distance from the pond and to avoid contact with its water. They are also conducting extensive tests to determine the exact cause of the pond's acidity.
