After the Warehouse
Author: KawaiiPsycho101 For: SlytherinPirate Pairings/Characters: No pairings; Japanese Task Force and SPK. Rating/Warnings: Rated T for character death and brief violence. Prompt: To prevent spoilers, I’ve listed the prompt at the end of the story. Author’s Notes: Spoilers for the end of the series. I’d also like to sincerely apologize for the rushed nature of this story. I had put this off until the last minute, and I’m afraid it shows. I will take better care in the future to plan my schedule accordingly should I do something like this again. Still, I hope you all enjoy.
It was over.
After six long years, Kira’s reign had finally come to an end, although there were only eight people in the world who knew this for a fact. They were gathered in a warehouse near Daikoku Wharf known as the Yellow Box. Their names were Touta Matsuda, Kanzo Mogi, Shuichi Aizawa, Hideki Ide, Hal Bullook, Stephen Loud, Anthony Carter, and Nate River (although he preferred to be called ‘Near’). The bodies of the serial killer known as Kira, Light Yagami, and his loyal follower, Teru Mikami, had just been taken away by the paramedics. A pile of gasoline-soaked notebooks lay at the group’s feet. Near lit a match and threw it on the pile. It went up instantly. They all watched the fire burn and listened to the flames crackle in silence.
Once the notebooks were nothing put a pile of ashes, a tall broad American man put out the blaze with an extinguisher.
“So,” Aizawa said, “That’s it, then.”
“Yes,” Near nodded, “It’s over.”
“What are we going to tell their families?”
Matsuda visibly stiffened.
“I’ll leave that up to you, just as long as it’s not the truth; the events of today must never leave this room, no matter what.”
“He’s right,” Ide muttered, “Even if we did tell, no one would ever believe us.”
“True.” Near gathered his finger-puppets and stood up. “We’ll contact you if we ever need your assistance again. Goodbye.”
And with that, everyone parted ways.
****************************************
“Well, that’s the last of it.”
Stephen sealed the last of the boxes containing all the information the SPK had gathered during their side of the Kira investigation. Near had asked him and Hal to clear out the headquarters and their computers while he and Commander Carter went back to the United States. They were probably just now reaching the airport.
“Finally,” his companion sighed, exhausted. “I’ll take these boxes and you can take those. We should be able to do it in one trip.”
“Right.”
Together, they made their way to the elevator, arms loaded with boxes and suitcases. As the doors closed behind them and the small shuttle began its descent from the twenty-seventh floor of the hotel, Hal turned to her colleague.
“Stephen?”
“Hmm?”
“I was wondering-”
SNAP!
She never got to finish her sentence.
The elevator plunged down the shaft, reaching speeds that made the passengers of the inside of the chamber experience what almost felt like weightlessness. The two dropped what they were holding and held onto the railing tightly. As the ground floor neared, Stephen reached out and grabbed Hal, pulling her towards him. He wrapped his arms around her, hoping that maybe she would survive if he absorbed most of the impact for her.
In the end, it didn’t matter.
It would take the authorities a few days to identify the remains, and they would later deem the accident the result of a one-a-million malfunction.
**************************************
While Hal Bullook and Stephen Loud were on their way to the elevator, Hideki Ide was unlocking the front door of his house. He and Mogi had just finished clearing out the Japanese Task Force’s own headquarters for the Kira investigation while Matsuda and Aizawa went to break the news of Light’s death to his mother and younger sister, along with his fiancé and former second Kira, Misa Amane. They had all decided to tell them that Light had been killed by Kira, while Mikami’s few friends and friendly would be told that he had committed suicide after suffering a nervous breakdown. It wasn’t very far from the truth.
Ide had admired the way Matsuda had volunteered to be the one to inform them of Light’s demise. He had reasoned that since he was already a well-liked acquaintance of the family, it only seemed natural that he be the one to tell them, even though it was clear to everyone that it was the last thing on Earth he wanted to do. Aizawa had probably sensed this as well, for he quickly volunteered to go as well.
Bzzzt-bzzzt.
Ide was knocked out of his thoughts by the vibrations of his cell phone in his front pocket, which he quickly answered.
“Hello?”
“Ide? It’s Fukawa,” Akira Fukawa was the current chief of the National Police Agency. “There’s been an accident at the Plaza Hotel. Apparently one of the elevators malfunctioned and fell over twenty stories. At least two people are dead. I want you to go over there and check it out. I know you’re off duty, but you’re the closet one to the Plaza right now.”
Ide wanted to tell the Chief to find someone else to do it, that he’d had his fair share of death for one day, but since he couldn’t, all he did was sigh and say that he’d be there as soon as he could. As he headed back to his car, he noticed two small boys playing a game of soccer in the front yard of the house across the street from his. One of them kicked the ball too hard, sending it into the street. The other one ran blindly after it, unaware of the truck speeding down the road.
Before he knew it, he was sprinting towards the child. The last thing he saw before the truck struck him was the boy’s body being hurled back onto his lawn from the force of Ide’s push.
********************************************
Kanzo Mogi chucked back his fifth shot of scotch with a grimace. He was sitting in his second-floor bedroom, trying to get the image of a bleeding and screaming Light Yagami out of his head. So far, it seemed that it would take all the alcohol on the planet just to dim the picture a little. He decided that maybe a bath would calm his nerves a little.
As he was undressing, he heard his phone ringing in the other room.
“Of course,” he muttered to himself before going to answer it. He looked at the caller ID and saw that it was Matsuda. “What is it, Matsuda?”
“Mogi, there’s been an accident! Ide’s in the hospital!”
“What?!”
“He got hit by a car saving a little kid. We were just leaving Light’s house when we heard. We probably won’t get to the hospital for another fifteen minutes.”
“I’m closer. I’ll meet you there.”
“Right, thanks.”
Mogi quickly redressed and ran down the stairs.
It can be argued that what happened next could have been avoided had he not been drinking, but considering the rush he was in, it probably would have happened anyway, stone-cold-sober or not.
In his hurry, Mogi tripped and toppled down the stairs, splitting his head open on the bannister. Somewhere during the tumble, there was a snap! and when his body came to a rest at the bottom of the staircase, his neck was bent at an unnatural angle as a pool of blood formed around him.
************************************************
“He said he’d meet us there.”
“Great.”
Touta Matsuda and Shuichi Aizawa didn’t say a word as they drove towards the hospital, instead opting to listen to the radio. According to the weather forecast, there was a nasty storm heading their way, which they both thought was rather fitting; for this had to be, without a doubt, the worst day of their lives.
As they crossed the last intersection to the hospital, the space right in front of them was struck by lightning. Temporarily stunned and blinded by the bright flash of light, Aizawa swerved into a nearby gas station parking lot, hitting one of the fuel stations and knocking one of the nozzles out of its slot, which began to pump out gasoline. After they took a moment to recover, Matsuda breathed a sigh of relief at having come out of the little misadventure unscathed, and thanked God that lightning never struck twice.
**********************************
KRRRACCK-BOOOM!
Near, who until a second ago had his face pressed against the passenger-side window of the plane, jumped back in shock and bumped into Anthony Carter. Up until now, he enjoyed looking out the window during take-offs and landings, watching the ground and buildings grow smaller or bigger as the plane flew higher or lower. This time had been no exception. But the sudden lightning strike was a bit off-putting.
“Are you alright, sir?”
“Yes,” the boy quickly recovered, “Just surprised is all.”
He looked out the window again, watching the city of Tokyo disappear from his sight.
Then there was a second lightning-strike, and for a brief second, Near could’ve sworn he saw an explosion out of the corner of his eye. Due to the distance, it appeared to be very tiny, which in reality meant that it had been quite large where it happened. He blinked, and he was suddenly too high up to tell if he had seen anything to begin with.
A few hours later, Near noticed a tension in the air.
Something was wrong.
The way the stewardesses and crew nervously scuttled about told him so.
There was a muffled boom! from outside the plane, followed by another, and another. Red lights and alarms started to go off as the oxygen masks dropped from the ceiling.
Nate River paid no attention to the chaos unfolding around him, for he knew at that precise moment he was going to die. He didn’t know if there was anything after death, and he sincerely doubted there was.
But still, he thought for the last time, it would be nice to see Mello again.
Prompt: Everything is the same, but everyone dies at the end.

kawaiipsycho101 replied to your post “sorry for asking, but how did you use your autistic traits against...”
I know what you mean. I've used my autistic 'quirks' once or twice to take advantage of people (mostly just to see if I could). I'm not proud of it either. I try to hide my physical 'ticks' (wrist-flapping, bouncing, etc.) whenever I'm in public. Although, I've been told that I'm a terrible liar.
Yeah, I’ve talked about to this to several autistic people before and it’s apparently not that uncommon! And I think both being an excellent and being a terrible liar (my sister, fro example, haha) is pretty typical.

Hi there! ^^
I’m KawaiiPsycho101 (KP101 for short).
A friend of mine recommended DN to me back when I was a freshman in high school (so around the fall of 2010) and I’ve been in love ever since. I wrote some fanfic in my early days, which mostly included tales of a Wammy OC and a sort-of crossover with The Princess Bride (which is now discontinued). I picked it up again a few years later (around 2016-17 I think), and I’ve been here ever since.
I’m currently going to school to get my Associative of Arts degree (second to last term, which means I’m almost done!). I enjoy reading, writing, & watching TV in my spare time among other things (pretty much anything that’s sorta pointless/wastes time).
I have an RP blog, if you wanna check that out.
Here’s a link to when I did this last year, if you wanna know more about me.
Here’s my AO3 profile, if you wanna read my writings.
I’m also on Discord too (same name as I use here).
I’ve met so many wonderful people and seen some incredible art/fics throughout my time here. This fandom has helped me through some really rough patches of my life and I cannot express how grateful I am for you love and support.
Here’s to another wonderful year in the fandom!

Name Game

Gift for: https://peppermint-soup.tumblr.com/
Prompt: AU/Adopting a pet
Author’s Notes: I had a lot of fun writing this and I hope everyone enjoys it! ^^ I’m sorry that it’s a little short, but I hope the fluff makes up for it. Other Notes- Super-Ultra-Mega Happy Ending AU! Mello never died! He also swallowed his pride and admitted his feelings to Near! This story is set a few years into their relationship where the two are happily living together in a cute little house somewhere where no bad guys can find them. =D
Name Game
“Are you sure you want to do this?”
“I am.”
“Okay,” Mello smiled, “I’ll make the call.”
The Next Day…
“Nervous?”
“A little.”
“Do you want to hold my hand?”
“I’m not a child,” Near huffed, but entwined his fingers with Mello’s anyway, “I’m ready.”
The two walked into the building where a woman was waiting for them. Once pleasantries were exchanged, she asked them to stay put while she got something from the backroom. Near gently squeezed his partner’s hand and Mello squeezed his in turn. The woman came back with a medium sized box with three holes cut into each side. She started to give the package to Mello, but stopped when Near reached up for it and handed it to him instead with a soft smile. He held it tightly, but not too tight.
“We greatly appreciate your patronage,” the woman beamed, “Is there anything else I can help you with?”
“No, we’re good.”
“Then I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day.”
The two returned the sentiment before heading back to the car.
The ride home was mostly silent, Mello driving while Near cradled the box in his lap. Occasionally the box made a sound, which Near tried to quiet with gentle reassurances.
“Shhhhhh…It’s okay. We’ll be there soon.” He caught Mello watching him out of the corner of his eye, a smirk on his face. “What?”
“Nothing.”
They reached their home and went inside. Near set the box on its side in the middle of the living room floor and lifted the tabs of the former top halves. Inside were two eight-week old kittens.
One had thick black fur with clear sky-blue eyes, while the other was white as snow with bright emerald eyes and a tiny pink nose. They were curled up together in the back of the box, quivering at the sight of the human before them.
“Hello, little ones,” Near held his hand palm-up a small distance away from the box, giving them plenty of space. “Do you remember us?”
The pair had first discovered the kittens at the shelter about a month before, and had made two other visits since then. They had originally planned to only adopt one cat, but when the woman working there told them that the babies were orphans that couldn’t stand to be away from each other, they immediately knew what they had to do.
“How are they doing? Not too scared, are they?” Mello joined him on the floor with small trays of water and wet-food, placing them next to the box.
“No, they just need time to adjust.”
Slowly, the black kitten began to poke her head out, sniffing Near’s hand cautiously before headbutting it with gusto.
“Seems she remembers you,” Mello chuckled. Near merely hummed in agreement, too wrapped up in petting the small creature. For a few seconds, Mello just watched the two begin to play, until he was interrupted by a tiny squeak. He turned at the noise and found the white kitten halfway out of the box and staring up at him with wide eyes. “Hey, sweetheart.”
“Mew.”
He offered her his hand to inspect the same way Near had with her sister. She didn’t even sniff it, rubbing herself against his fingers right away before coming closer and placing her front paws on Mello’s knee.
“You want up?”
“Mew!” The kitten hopped onto Mello’s lap and started to climb up his shirt. “Mew!”
“Okay, okay!” The blonde laughed as he picked her up and cradled her to his chest, cooing at the cat, but glancing at Near. “You’re lucky I have a soft-spot for pale, cuddle-hungry fluffballs.”
The aforementioned fluffball playfully glared at Mello before letting his own kitten climb up the sleeve of his white pajama-top and eventually on top of his head, where she perched there, purring in what almost sounded like victory.
“Well, Mellanie is lucky that I have a soft spot for loud, flamboyant troublemakers.”
Mello gaped at the other.
“…Mellanie? Seriously?”
“Quite,” Near smirked, plucking the kitten out of his hair, “I think it suits her. Wouldn’t you agree, Mellanie?”
“Mrah!”
“See? She thinks so.”
There was a beat of silence before Mello decided that two can play at this game.
“Alright, then this little gal’s name is gonna be…” He thought for second before looking to the kitten in his arms. “How does ‘Nora’ sound to you, sweetie?”
“Mew.”
“Perfect! ‘Nora’ it is!”
The rest of the day was spent playing with and watching over the two newest editions to Keehl-River family. By late evening, Mello was cuddling with Near on the couch, watching the steady breathing of Mellanie and Nora who were sound asleep on top of their new cat tower.
“I love you,” Mello mumbled into the younger man’s curls, “I know I don’t say it enough, but I do.”
“I know,” Near pressed a soft kiss to his cheek…then another…and another. “I love you too.”
It stayed that way for a few more minutes, the two of them basking in the peacefulness of the moment while murmuring adoring words to each other with every kiss. Eventually, Near let out an adorable, soundless yawn.
“Tired?”
“Mmm…”
Mello gave a soft laugh, pulling Near up with him.
“Come on, time for bed.” Near merely whined and leaned into him, wrapping his arms around the taller one’s neck, causing the blonde to roll his eyes. “Fine…”
Mello picked Near up and carried him to their bedroom, pretending to make a bit of a fuss about it, but they both knew he loved it. Once they were nestled in bed, they whispered to each other, almost in unison,
“Goodnight, kitten.”

Relationship status: pretty much engaged! We haven’t done the fancy ring shit and won’t until getting married is actually financially feasible, but we’ve spoken about it and we do want to get married. Our 9 year anniversary is this month!!
Favorite color: I love mint green and pink.
Top Three Ships: The three I am currently most invested in are Mikami/Light (Death Note, obviously), Shu/Boa (Beyblade Burst) and Vader/Tarkin (Star Wars) ... with a shout-out to my roleplay crossover OTP Helena (Neo Yokio) / Dio (Virtue’s Last Reward), haha. Yes, that Helena. Shhh.
Lipstick or Chapstick: Lipstick all the way, I never leave the house unless my lips are painted.
Last song you listened to: Wanderlust by Polly Scattergood.
Currently reading: I am sloooowly fighting my way through From A Certain Point Of View, that one Star Wars anthology. It’s... pretty hard to motivate myself to finish, but...... I gotta.
Last movie you watched: A Fantastic Woman was on in the cinema a while back,so I think that’s the last movie I saw? It’s either that or Josie and the Pussycats, watched with casuistor... I don’t recall what was more recent :/

I am a Rock
Author: lawlipopsicle For: kawaiipsycho101 Pairings/Characters: Matt x Mello Rating/Warnings: Teen and Up Prompt: “Super sweet/fluffy fic in which a character is depressed/stressed out/had a bad day/what-have-you, and the other character(s) tries to make them feel better.” Author’s notes: This is my first Death Note fanfiction piece involving Matt and Mello. I struggled figuring out how to write these characters, but the open-ended prompts allowed for me to play around with many different aspects. In the end, I ultimately decided to go with a college AU. I had a lot of fun writing this fic, and I hope you enjoy it.
A gentle nudge roused him from his unexpected slumber. Matt shifted slightly in acknowledgement of the person trying to get his attention, but he kept his head down and his eyes closed. The sounds of slow-moving footsteps and idle chit-chat alerted him that class was about to start, but Matt couldn’t care less. His translucent goggles covered his eyes, making it appear that he was awake and ready to begin the day, but his intentions lay elsewhere.
“Matt. Hey, wake up.” A soft voice muttered.
Matt groaned in response and sighed when he felt the familiar nudge once more trying to rob him of his sleep.
Near. Of course. While Matt and Near were good friends, Near was a morning person, but Matt, however, was not.
“Near, please just be quiet,” Matt hissed more rudely than he had intended, “My head’s about to split open, and you’re not helping.”
“Again? See, I told you that going to that party last night was a bad id- No,” Near shook his head, cutting himself off mid-sentence,
“Forget it. I understand you’re in a mood right now, but I seriously need to talk to you. ”
Matt slowly lifted his head and pulled his goggles down part-way, “This better be important.”
“He’s not here again today.” Near murmured solemnly before turning his head.
Following Near’s gaze, Matt’s eyes landed on the empty seat two spots away from Near. The rest of the class had already filed in, and while the other students were busy talking with each other while the professor was pulling things together for the day’s lesson, everyone was in or around their seat for the most part. Matt stared at the same spot for what felt like hours.
That seat remained empty, its occupant nowhere to be seen.
“Near.”  Matt spoke softly, although it was neither a statement nor question.
Near slowly turned his body toward Matt. Absentmindedly, Near twirled his white locks around one of his pale fingers, refusing to make eye contact, “Yeah?” he finally answered.
Matt’s body was taut like a rubber band. He sprung out of his seat and placed both hands on the desk. As he leaned in closely, the table started to shake under his quivering arms.
“I need to go talk to him. Can you cover for me?” Matt asked in desperation.
Near nodded, “I’ll do what I can; just go. Send me a message if you need backup.”
“Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.” Matt murmured as he slowly pulled himself away from the desk before rushing out of the room.
As he darted down the hall, Matt shoved his hand into his vest pocket and hurriedly searched for his phone. Once he found it, he quickly pressed the power button and waited impatiently for it to turn on.
“Come on already!” Matt growled as he pushed past some late-comers on the way to their classes.
After he was outside, Matt dialed his phone while he ran in the direction of his dormitory. The phone rang for several minutes, and with each passing moment, Matt’s fingers clenched tighter around the phone, his breath catching in the back of his throat. To his dismay, however, the call went straight to voicemail.
“Damn it all!” Matt cursed and rushed into the dorm. Once inside, he rushed over to the familiar door down the first floor hall and knocked on it repeatedly, as loud as he could.
“Mello! Hey, Mello!”
“What the hell do you want? Go away.” A muffled voice on the other side of the door snapped.
Matt frowned, “I just got here, and I’m not going anywhere. Now open up. Please, Mello.” he begged desperately.
Angry groans could be heard on the other side of the door, but there was no indication that Mello or anyone else for that matter was going to let him in. Deciding to take matters into his own hands, Matt reached into his pants pocket and slowly pulled out a silver key.
“What the fuck, Matt?  First you won’t leave me alone, and now you break into my room?” Mello growled as Matt opened the door and stepped inside.
“You gave me a copy of your room key at the beginning of the semester, remember?” Matt replied in a soft voice and closed the door behind him.
Mello only grumbled in response as he flopped back onto his bed,
“Shouldn’t you be in class?”
“Shouldn’t you?” Matt countered and walked over to him.
“I didn’t feel like going, so I asked L to take notes for me.” Mello murmured as he glanced at his roommate’s side of the room.
Matt nodded as he listened to Mello’s response, “L has classes all day, right?” he asked.
“Until four, and then he goes and studies in the library with Light until it closes at midnight. Why?” Mello muttered.
“If that’s the case, then I’m staying with you.” Matt answered and slowly climbed onto the bed with Mello.
Mello lifted his head, “What?”
“Move over.” Matt murmured as he kicked off his boots and moved closer to Mello.
“You are such a pain,” Mello huffed as he reluctantly obeyed and shifted over to make room for Matt on the bed.
With a warm smile, Matt pulled Mello into a gentle hug and rested his hands on Mello’s lower back, “Rough day, huh, Mells?” he murmured in understanding.
Mello huffed, “What the hell do you think?” he muttered.
Tightening his grip around Mello’s body, Matt nuzzled him affectionately, “I understand. Do you want to talk about it?”
Mello sighed and tried to relax as Matt gently rubbed his back. As he took a deep breath and slowly released it, Mello nuzzled his head against Matt and put his arm around him. The two teens remained snuggled close to each other in silence.
After a few more minutes of quiet, Matt spoke up, “Did you take your meds?” he asked softly.
“Huh?” Mello opened his eyes and lifted his head.
“Did you take your meds, Mello?” Matt repeated.
“Yeah, I did,” Mello answered, “That doesn’t matter though, Matt. It wouldn’t have made any difference if I hadn’t taken them; I’d still feel like crap anyway. They’re not some miracle happy pills either; I’m still going to have many days where I’m in a shit mood, and there’s nothing you or anyone else can do about it. So get used to it.”
Matt maintained eye contact with Mello and nodded as he spoke, “I understand, Mello, and no, I don’t expect you to stop having bad days,”
He paused before continuing, “If you need to be alone, I’ll respect that, but when you start skipping class and isolating yourself, that’s when I get worried. I just want you to know that you can always come talk to me if you need to, no matter what. Even if it’s during the middle of the night, I’ll jump out of bed and come to you.”
“And if it’s during your classes, you’ll come then, too?” Mello snorted and rolled his eyes.
“Damn straight, I will.”
At that, Mello laughed. He stretched his arms and shifted so that he was lying on his back. Mello watched as Matt moved to lie on his side and continue to stare at him.
“‘Damn bi’ is a more accurate description,” Mello challenged, “Come on, Matt. You and I both know that there isn’t a straight bone in your body.”
Raising an eyebrow at Mello’s comment, Matt giggled and playfully punched Mello in the arm, “Shut the fuck up, Mells. You’re one to talk.”
For the first time all day, Mello looked at Matt and gave him a genuine smile. He didn’t speak and didn’t offer a witty comeback; he just stared intently at Matt while still wearing that warm smile on his face.
“Feeling better?” Matt whispered into Mello’s ear before gently placing a kiss on his cheek.
Mello frowned and huffed, “Don’t get me wrong; I’m still in a bad mood. However I will admit that you can be funny when you want to be. You got me to smirk, even if it was only for a second. ”
Matt sighed, “It’s alright, Mello. It wasn’t just a smirk, either. I still managed to make you smile. And as long as I’m around, I’ll never stop trying to bring that smile back to your face.”
“Hmph. Good luck with that.”
“Is that a challenge?” Matt retorted as he playfully tackled Mello.
Answering Matt’s words with nothing but a groan of annoyance, Mello pushed back to try and move Matt off of him. When that wouldn’t work, Mello used his legs to struggle and kick. At that moment, Mello realized Matt wasn’t going to give up so easily, so for several minutes, the two of them continued to fight, their bodies becoming entangled by the black bed sheets.
All movement ceased once Mello landed on his back with a soft groan. He looked up to see Matt hovering over him, his hands pinning Mello to the mattress.
“Come on, Matt. Cut the crap,” Mello sighed, “Get off.”
“Oh? But I thought you liked it when I dominate in bed?” Matt feigned being hurt and winked at Mello suggestively.
At that, Mello couldn’t help but crack a grin.
Matt smiled warmly, “There’s that smile I love so much. I told you I’d get that smile back on your face one way or another.” he soothed.
“I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: You are such a pain.” Mello huffed.
“Noted. Now there’s gotta be something else I can do to cheer you up. I won’t settle for just a temporary fix.”
Mello yawned, “I’m fine, Matt. Really. I’m not in class right now, you’re here, and L’s out of the room. What more do I need?”
“What was that?” Matt blinked, “What did you just say?”
“I’m not in class right now?”
Matt sighed, “After that.”
“L’s out of the room?” Mello answered again.
“No, in the middle! You said something about me being here making you happy. Is that true?”
Mello blushed lightly, “What if it is? Is that a problem?”
Matt smiled knowingly and shook his head, “You were so upset when you first saw me come in here. Now you’re pleased that I came.”
“Y-Yeah? So what?”
“Nothing,” Matt murmured as he dropped the subject as quickly as he brought it up, “I’m just happy that you’re starting to feel better, and I’m happy that I was able to help, even if it was just a little.”
After that, Mello was speechless. He watched as Matt snuggled up to him silently and rested his head on Mello’s chest with a sigh of content.
Their relationship wasn’t perfect; in fact, Mello would argue that it was far from that. Current circumstances aside, however, Mello was relieved to have Matt with him now. As he watched the younger teen fall into a light slumber, Mello smiled and slowly began to run his fingers through Matt’s brown locks.
No. They weren’t perfect at all. But as Mello reached down and took Matt by the hand, he felt Matt’s warmth rush through his body like rays of golden light.
And for the moment, that was enough.
