Spotify Wrapped Prompts
Hello everybody!
It's almost the end of the end of the year, which means that Spotify Wrapped is available! This includes your favorite songs, artists, and genres.
Here's ten songs (shuffled from my top 100) I chose, which I hope you could use to inspire your work!
"Και σ’ αγαπώ, σ’ αγαπώ, σ’ αγαπώ κι είναι στιγμές που πικρά μετανιώνω"
"And I love you, I love you, I love you and there are moments I bitterly regret it"
"我知道我要的那种幸福 就在那片更高的天空"
"I know that the happiness I want is on a higher slice of the sky"
"Kalbimiz temiz diye Harcadılar bizi de yine"
"Because our hearts are pure They wasted us again"
"Φύγανε παιδάκια στην Αμέρικα Χέρια γκαρσόνια μαγέρικα Κι ήρθε απόψε η νυχτιά Και τους άναψε Ποιας νοσταλγίας φωτιά"
"Young bloods, they migrated to America: Deck hands, waiters, line cooks. And as this evening darkened into night, It ignited in them Such a nostalgic fire!"
"I forgot the world outside and I lost my needs and pride So how can I be reproached when I've found freedom?"
"Κι αν ξυπόλυτη χορεύω, με σημαία μου μια φούστα είναι γιατί σε λατρεύω, και σου κάνω όλα τα γούστα"
"And if I dance barefoot, with a skirt as my banner it’s because I love you and I accomplish all your favours."
"Ni do zadnjeg leta, ni do kraja sveta Sudbina je moja kleta"
"Not until the last flight, not until the end of the world My fate is cursed"
"I am the unknown fighter A dark horse coming for you"
"But in your sacred air I am full of light Your loving arms are the true delight To which I'm lost..."
And, my most listened-to song...
"Her love makes me bulletproof."

1993 Millstreet - Number 18 - Kaiti Garbi - "Ellada, Hora Tou Fotos"
youtube
Here is the start of a long and very illustrious music career. Katy Garbi was selected to represent Greece at Eurovision in 1993 having release four increasingly critically applauded and popular albums. She managed to maintain Greece's early 1990s success, finishing in the top 10 at 9th with Ελλάδα, χώρα του φωτός (Greece, Country of Light)
The song, which might appear to be a tourist advert for Greece mentioning Plato and Aristotle (repeatedly) and casting modern Greeks as their descendants, is instead a sort of warning of bad times ahead, possibly because of clash between cultures. The young and the old. The traditional and the new. Indeed there were complaints in Greece about this performance - notably because the dress Katy wore, slit down the side. It didn't reveal much, but it acted as lighting rod for those who enjoy a complaint.
Perhaps for that reason, there are some interesting camera angles at play. Unlike most of the other performances, there are few full-length shots of the performance. The camera is either a longshot or fixed on Katy's face for huge periods of time. Almost a minute goes by as Katy swings her hips and beckons with her arm, and all we can see is her face, her smile and her bongo player giving her a sideways glance while he plays. It's hardly dynamic.
The song itself is a mix of tradition but with a modern, upbeat accompaniment. There is only two short verses, but the chorus gets repeated multiple times between them. Hypnotic.
Katy went on to have an enormously long and successful career in the Greek speaking pop music world. She's had 20 studio albums, plus multiple other releases up to the most recent in 2017. It's clear the controversy didn't harm her one bit.

hey vic!!!!! thanks so much for the ask and i'm so sorry that this has taken me approximately forever to answer. also, hell yeah, happy gary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
anyway! five songs i really, really, really like to listen to:
Honey by Magic Man - this was my top song last year and i still listen to it a bunch this year. it's just such a good song in generall and at this point it's a huge comfort song (i'll play it on loop to calm down, etc.)
Haircut by Chaz Cardigan - this song makes me feel seen and also reminds me that i can change any time i want
Molotov Girls by The Zolas - i am a huge fan of drums in my songs and imo this one is very good for this and has a lot of other fun/nice instrumental parts
Tha Melagholiso - Otherview Remix - MAD VMA 2019 - by Katy Garbi, Alcatrash, Otherview - i like to listen to greek music to feel more connected to the culture and this is by far my favorite. it's an all around great song and gets be hyped/motivated if i'm feeling down
Naatu Naatu by Rahul Sipligunj, Kala Bhairava - this is from the tollywood movie RRR (highly recommend watching it!!!) and this song just goes so hard and i do play it to get myself motivated, similar to number four, lmao. also, the telugu version of the song is so much better than the hindi version, i don't make the rules
(tbh, this was so hard because i listen to a lot of music and i'm so bad at picking faves and such but it was also so much fun, thank you!!!!!)

To celebrate Women's Day, here are two playlists, one featuring all my Western Queens and one with my K-pop Queens. Enjoy!
I've always found myself attracted more to female singers' music ever since I can remember myself.
First it was just songs on Greek radios with Queens like Katy Garbi or Helena Paparizou. Ever since 2004, I've been watching the Eurovision Song Contest and many icons have graced that stage and delivered the most iconic performances, from Ruslana to Sertab Erener. When I went into puberty around 2009-2010, I had access to the internet for the first time and I would religiously watch Britney Spears and Madonna's music videos on YouTube. By 2012 I was also into K-pop and now a whole new array of Queens like 2NE1 and Girls' Generation had entered my music spectrum.
No matter the continent, no matter the culture, women RUN pop music, and for that we should all be very grateful 🥲

If you get this answer with your top 5 music artists and send it to the last 7 people in your notifications, anonymously or not <3
--Savage Garden: I really like their songs for the most part, and could listen to them all day. Their debut album would go on my desert island playlist (To the Moon and Back, Crash and Burn, Violet) --汪峰 (Wang Feng): One of my favorite Chinese artists, he frequently writes songs which really cut close at you. (春天里, 北京,北京,恒星) --Kaiti Garbi: She participated in Eurovision 30 years ago; not only I love her song, but I also love her discography (Ksipoliti Horevo, Arxhiso Polemo, Doro Theou) --Idan Raichel: I love the mix of different languages and cultures involved, and some of those songs really cut deep. (Mimaamakim, Chalamot Shel Acharim, Galgal Mistovev) --Florence and the Machine: Really good and gripping music, another band I could listen to all their songs all day. (Spectrum, No Light, No Light, Queen of Peace)

Eurovision 2007 - Number 63 - Christos Dantis - "No Madonna"
youtube
There were only three acts at Ellinikós Telikós 2007, ERT's Greek national selection for the year.  After two years choosing an artist then having a song selection final, it was back to a traditional format of artists with songs.  Each artist was selected by ERT, five were considered and willing, but for whatever reason two acts weren't ready for the deadline, and so only three made it to stage.
One of those three was Christos Dantis - the writer of Greece's pride and Eurovision joy My Number One - the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2005.  He'd teamed up with one of his co-writers from 2005, lyricist Natalia Germanou to write No Madonna.
This time around though Christos wanted to be front and centre.  It's one thing winning the writing prize, but now he wanted a piece of the action on stage as well as off it.   He'd been releasing albums of his music as well as writing since the early 1990s and more recently he'd been on a tour with Katy Garbi, Greece's 1993 Eurovision representative.
No Madonna is certainly a step up in the raunch factor.  Rather than the sweeter and more innocent My Number One, Christos absolutely launches himself at the song.  No pussyfooting.  He's someone who has clearly been accused of playing around and frankly he's not in the mood to deny it.  He'd rather clap back.  Loudly.  He absolutely chews his way through this song  with a degree of indignation and fury only a man (rightly) accused of philandering in public can muster.
He's all huff and puff and not really in the mood to go, but his pride can only allow him to attempt to take the high ground and walk out the door on the relationship.  But you know next year he'll be begging to get back with her.  Performative indignation with some light undressing, stabbing chords from synths, and guitars spitting their punctuating power at full volume.
It's a screech of a song and one that Christos pretty much loses control of vocally from the start.  He's rasping, he's throaty, he's shouting, but he gets there. The singing may not be perfect, but damn he's going to make sure you know his side of the story.
Christos thought he should have won.  He didn't.  He came second of the three, though not by a long way.  However, even if he hadn't come last with the juries, he still wouldn't have made it.  He did manage to beat future Cypriot Eurovision star Tamta into third place though.
No matter, he still had another five albums in him over pretty much the next five years.  He toured a covers tour with songs from the Killers, Kaiser Chiefs, Stevie Wonder and James Brown.  He also wrote a song for the 2012 Greek national final as well. This though is pretty much his last Eurovision hurrah.  He'll always have the memories from 2005.
