peeta tried to save him and katniss by saying she had a baby, because he knew that would pull at the capitals heart strings. In a dystopian society, peeta mellark knew the capital would care more about a fetus than the real dying children . this sounds oddly familiar

I love the idea of comparing Neil Josten to Katniss Everdeen but they really are the same level of incredibly smart but also clueless
I feel like many people have a fundamental misconception of what unreliable narrator means. It's simply a narrative vehicle not a character flaw, a sign that the character is a bad person. There are also many different types of unreliable narrators in fiction. Being an unreliable narrator doesn't necessarily mean that the character is 'wrong', it definitely doesn't mean that they're wrong about everything even if some aspects in their story are inaccurate, and only some unreliable narrators actively and consciously lie. Stories that have unreliable narrators also tend to deal with perception and memory and they often don't even have one objective truth, just different versions. It reflects real life where we know human memory is highly unreliable and vague and people can interpret same events very differently

i wonder if there was a games where the victor didn’t survive to the hovercraft from the games. like we know peeta’s heart stops TWICE on the hovercraft back to the training center. haymitch was convulsing on the ground when the other tribute’s axe flew back at her. i feel like it’s not unrealistic that there is at least one victor who still died in the end.

Like, it doesn't matter if he loves her "more" or "less" than he did before, it matters that he FELL IN LOVE WITH HER AGAIN
”peeta will never love katniss as much as he used to post-war” SHUT UPPPPPPP

the fact that the hunger games becomes consistently more and more accurate to real life is terrifying and Suzanne Collins should be the only political analyst ever

Do you think Peeta realises how hard Katniss is on herself?. We know from reading her inner monologue how deep her self loathing is but she doesn’t necessary wear that on her sleeve.
hey anon! i think i’ve been sitting on this ask for awhile so thanks for your patience :p
i think the victory tour probably gives peeta a lot of insight into this. realizing she has nightmares multiple times a night, the way she responds to the man’s death in district 11 like she killed him herself, the overall despair in her mood until snow confirms it wasn’t enough i think would give him some idea. also, i think her willingness to self-sacrifice so he could win the quell is a little telling, and her suicide attempt after assassinating coin, too.
this is somewhat complicated because of the nature of their relationship and general outsider’s perspective. her actions on the victory tour can be seen from a response of anxiety/fear without factoring in the self-loathing. coin’s assassination has so many possible explanations that self-loathing could be ignored. also, katniss’s greatest self-loathing happens in mockingjay where peeta is largely absent/hijacked. i imagine after the war when they are growing back together he takes notice of it.
side note: this reminded me of my deep deep deep desire to know peeta’s thoughts about katniss trying to sacrifice herself for him. like what does he think is her reason why?

Hello 👋
I actually live near where the hunger games were filmed (about an hour away)
Katniss is most definitely indigenous and to pinpoint specifics, she most likely to be Cherokee. Cherokee people are Appalachian people. We have been here for a millennia.
And to point about the Seam and reservation parallel, guess what, there is a Reservation in the Appalachian mountains, and its an hour away from where the movies were filmed.
Another I found the other day is the clothing the people from the Seam wear.
It’s literally native inspired clothing
Ex. Maude Ivory

The two are me wearing traditional clothing.
It’s very similar.
Here Lucy Gray is quite literally wearing a ribbon skirt. Tho the Cherokee didn’t come up with ribbon skirts, the Covey traveled around so they most definitely got it from out west

Just curious abt ur opinion on this! So, im half Native and have always read Katniss as Indigenous, because of her physical features and where she comes from, the Seam. The Seam reminds me of reservations in the US and Canada, which often have very poor conditions and were created with the intent of extermination. Plus, I love the idea of an Indigenous girl being the one that ignited the take down of the fascist regime of Panem. But yeah! Just wanna hear ur thoughts if u have any :)
I always read Katniss as indigenous too! Of course, with Prim being blonde haired/blue eyed like most of the merchant class in 12, she is definitely mixed. I think that it adds a lot to the story for Katniss to be non-white, as non-white people have historically been change makers. Also yes, I think the Seam definitely reminds me of a reservation, and also has some aspects of an Appalachian holler. I live in the Western US and am more familiar with the style of Reservations in New Mexico and Utah (especially the Navajo reservation) so I have never particularly seen the Seam as a reservation (mostly because it’s forested and I tend to think reservation=desert, but that is definitely I bias based on my geographic location) but I really like the idea! Especially because of the quote “District 12, where you can starve to death in safety” because that is very reminiscent of the US government promising those on reservations “protection” while denying them adequate access to healthcare and education, and creating food deserts for an already vulnerable population in areas with often no arable land. Anyway, I see Katniss as indigenous and I’m so glad you do too!

Katniss is such an unreliable narrator. She says "Then something unexpected happens. At least, I don't expect it because I don't think of District 12 as a place that cares about me" girl you deliver strawberries to the Mayor, you hunt and trade for the district, when you fell at Prim being chosen someone caught you, when you went to Prim people parted for you, when you volunteered EVERYONE stopped. Idk how to tell you but I think you're a pillar of the community.
