how do we know Gerards girlfriend was named Kat ive heard references about her but like how do we know her name

okay first off sorry im so late to answering these <3 I actually had to do a little research for accuracy

how do we know his girlfriend was named kat?

we know "kat" or "katmandu" is at least an alias of gerard ex-girlfriend due to a few references

bullets liner notes - gerard writes "to k: i'm sorry i wrote all this stuff about killing you. i hope the last song makes up for it."

three cheers liner notes - to katmandu: love to you and take care of olivia while i'm on the road

according to all references, they were together for a total of six years

who is olivia?

this is honestly super unclear, but i'm gonna lead with what I think the most likely explanation is:

a dog - according to this comment thread, olivia was the name of the dog that kat and gerard shared. this comment thread mentions the dog was a chihuahua.

unlikely explanations:

kat/olivia are the same person - this post seems super convinced that kat and olivia are the same person. they provide very little evidence but the comment section provides an interesting perspective

kat's daughter - someone posted a rumor that olivia is kat's daughter from a previous relationship. this seems unlikely and this tumblr post is the only reference I can find to this

other random references to "kat"

famous last words/gerard interview - there's an interview floating around somewhere where gerard says the creation of famous last words led to him breaking up with his long-term girlfriend. this would've been kat, at the time. i can't find the interview right now (comment if u find it) but this and this comment mentions it

cancer rumor- there is a reference to kat on this verita-venom post where she writes about a rumor that gerard left kat after she was diagnosed with cancer. i have no other evidence to back this up. verita is a notoriously unethical/biased source so i'm personally not convinced

meghan mayhem post - apparently a friend of eliza's called meghan made a post about kat on buzznet that now seems to be deleted/lost. there's a reference to it here and here (scroll). i don't know what the post said, but the sources I linked have mentioned the following:

* kat is not is her real name, just an alias * gerard is rumored to have cheated on kat with eliza (her fanfic i mentioned the other day alludes to this) * kat was allegedly not a good girlfriend (essentially was emotionally abusive)

all of this seemed to be posted in retaliation to fans shit-talking eliza and gerard. this is just some random drama stirred up by eliza's friend, not really credible information at all
