Corey and Oats in…
Monstrous Mayhem at Universal Studios
Note: This is a double special story because it is not only a halloween story but also it is a guest story featuring guest star Kathy Bates, it is made to commemorate her in general because she has announced she is going to do one last tv role before she ‘retires’.
Corey and Oats went on many adventures together including to different places around the world and sometimes on crazy adventures to realms of their choices but they were planning something very special for this adventure, it was September 10th 2024 and they were gearing up for a series of halloween adventures.
Mel saw some videos of Halloween Horror Nights mazes and it gave her an idea for an adventure, she thought she would take the duo and their friends on a Universal Studios adventure, she used a special item from the bedroom (a skull themed glow wand she was given last year for halloween) which she used to open up a portal in the wall.
The duo along with Aiyvan the monster, Wailleo, Anglo, Mel, and Piff among others jumped through it and when they came out of it they had arrived at Universal Studios which made all of them excited Corey looked around as what appeared to be advertisements for Halloween Horror Nights.
Oats looked around and he looked at the lots, the lot that used for ‘Whoville’ in the live action adaptation of the Grinch was no longer there because it had been taken down back in 2020 but the Psycho set or the ‘Bates’ motel as it was called was still there, they all decided to head off to the Bates Motel to go and take a look.
Anglo used his light to guide them and when they all entered, Oats began to feel a little bit afraid but Mel protected him and everyone from the monsters in the motel, they had just come across a series of clues that lead to a hidden area and they walked into the bathroom area.
Mel decided to look around for a bit as did Oats, but she jumpped back a little when she saw a masked killer (wearing a mask that resembled an executioner’s mask) trying to stab her in a way mimicking the famous shower scene. ‘Aaah!’ ‘Oh did I scare you guys? I am sorry, where are my manners?’ the masked killer pulled off the executioner mask to reveal none other than Kathy Bates underneath it. ‘Mel..am I seeing things or is that Kathy Bates?’ ‘No you’re not seeing things, i’m here.’ Kathy responded, chuckling.
‘You nearly scared us to death there.’ ‘Aaaw, I was just having fun. And you know how me and the other American Horror Story ladies are around this time of year.’ ‘Oh yeah, we know what you’re like.’ ‘So what is the special occasion?’ ‘Well you may have heard I am retiring.’ ‘Retiring, oh so it is not so.’ ‘Well retiring after my last TV show that is.’
‘I have to say that it does seem fitting that you picked the Bates Motel set as your halloween hangout this year.’ ‘You and Norman wouldn’t happen to be related, would you?’ ‘Well apart from both of us having the same last name, not really. Annie Wilkes would totally get along with Norman though, and she knows it.’
Kathy showed the duo around, showing them all the rooms including the ones the group had just been through, and even where the monsters were…’As you can see, I went out a lot to make this place as horrifying as possible for my guests.’ She showed them some props and even some of the items she kept. ‘Wow, you still keep that sledgehammer around.’ ‘Well yes I do, just in case some people want to hurt me.’ ‘Why would anyone want to hurt you, if anything they’d be afraid of you doing it to them.’
‘Yeah…I get that a lot. And also James Caan’s spirit talks to me, he says he has forgiven me for making him bedridden and for nearly breaking his legs!’ ‘Glad to see you have made up.’ They all explored the motel and encountered various monsters and surprises in each room.
There was a room near one of the bedrooms in the motel which had a supernatural element to it, Mel found herself turning into a demoness while Corey became a vampire bat-like creature and Oats turned into a ghostly horse-person resembling the Pokemon Spectrier, Piff and Anglo becoming Gillman-esque fish-monsters with traits of their fish species while Kathy grew gray and white fur on her hands and her fingernails lengthened, the fur crept up her body as her hair grew longer and her ears became pointed, her eyes remained the same but she took on a humanoid feline appearance with canine teeth resembling fangs, a gray nose and whiskers, making her look like a cat-woman.
‘Kathy, that is a purrfectly cute monster look for you.’ ‘Yeah, you look like a big friendly turtoise-shell cat!’ ‘We always do transformations like this every year, the best part is we get to be ourselves.’ Wailleo smiled and laughed as they all walked through the motel and solved the riddles.
‘I must say that since I first met you and the other women from American Horror Story I have not been disappointed by your halloween surprises, you are truly a mistress of Scaremonies.’ ‘Oh you guys are so kind.’ ‘No problem, you deserve all the praise you have gotten over the years.’
Mel had always admired Kathy (as did Nathan and That Werebelushi In Shades) and to see her be so excited about halloween made her more than happy, she was also enamored by how convincing Kathy was at being spooky. ‘You should be considered an honorary scream queen if you are not one already.’ ‘I am considered to be one in my own right of course, i’m just different from most.’
“That’s why we love you.”
“Absolutely.”
They had lunch and after lunch they continued their little exploration of the set and even stopped to befriend some friendly monsters, when they finished up their search they had afternoon tea and bought some souvenirs from the gift shop and learned about the history of horror movies and the history of curses and haunted sets, and Mel appreciated Kathy as a halloween hostess and the quirky puns and jokes she made.
Kathy was enjoying herself and her role as a halloween hostess, Mel asked her for an autograph and she was more than happy to oblige, signing a copy Mel had of ‘Misery’ and a prop ax. She then hugged Mel and everyone joined in the hug, Anglo was happy as was everyone to have had such a lovely halloween adventure together.
When it was time for them to go home they all said goodbye to her, but not before giving one last hug before leaving the motel and heading back to the entrance of Universal Studios, they all waved goodbye as they jumped back through the portal.
Upon jumping back through the portal they had arrived back at their home in Nile Road, Corey and Oats told all their friends about their adventure and they sat down together in the lounge and waited for dinner. When dinner arrived they all had some lovely food for their meal.
After dinner they relaxed with some music and games before emailing Jill about their adventure and how they enjoyed being monsters, they turned back to normal from being their transformed states and they looked around for some more fun halloweeny places to go on for the next few adventures they would no doubt be planning.
They ended their day and evening with a trip to the bedroom as Corey put on his bat pajamas and Oats put on his pink nightgown, they brushed their teeth in the bathroom before all going back to the bedroom to pick out friends to snuggle up with.
Anglo jumped into bed as did everyone else including Mel, Mel turned off the light and they all drifted off to sleep. The bed began to move and glow as it was powered by the thoughts they all had in their heads, and they all had dreams that took them on a journey to Universal Studios where they took part in Halloween Horror Nights and made their own monster movies.
And thus their adventure had once again ended but more adventures are coming up, so stay tuned.

Pop artist Nadia Vaeh has dropped her new music video for her powerful track 'Anxiety'. The video reflects on her personal mental health struggles and how she copes with the highs and lows of anxiety. The video shows Nadia alone at home coping with what the real and raw effects of anxiety look and feel like. As an advocate, she hopes her music can inspire people to embrace the conversation of mental health and be a reminder that they are not alone.

Babeheaven, the project of West Londoners Nancy Andersen and Jamie Travis, share their latest single, 'Craziest Things', along with a video from the award-winning illustrator and animator, Sacha Beeley. The track is taken from the duo’s much anticipated debut album, Home For Now, which will be released on November 20 via AWAL, and follows the singles 'Cassette Beat' and 'Human Nature'. About the track, Nancy said: “On 'Craziest Things', I explore my anxiety and insomnia, not being able to make sense of my emotions and running around in a state of mania.”

Moscow-based multi-talented avant-pop artist Kate Shilonosova aka Kate NV has just unveiled a video for 'Lu Na', a track taken from her last album Room for the Moon. Drawing from “unlived memories of 70s and 80s Russian and Japanese pop music and film,” the project also comes with vintage and surreal conceptual videos inspired by the shows she was watching as a child. In these new Gina Onegina-directed visuals, she introduces four dancers voguing in pinky cats outfits. “‘Lu Na’ was originally planned as a dance clip consisting mostly of one repetitive loop—simple pattern where cats walk in a square one by one,” she stated. “This pattern was hugely inspired and based on [Samuel] Beckett’s piece Quad which I love. Originally I just wanted the sun to appear slowly behind those cats while they walk. All of the dancers were wonderful, they brought so much life to the characters of those cats!” [via High Clouds]

Kississippi, the increasingly pop-minded project of the Philadelphia musician Zoe Reynolds, have released a new single, 'Around Your Room'. Kississippi got their start making wispy and hypnotic folk reveries, which opened up into more muscular fare on their debut full-length, 2018’s Sunset Blush. 'Around Your Room' is their most unabashedly pop song yet, a strobing synth that pulls from Lorde’s Melodrama providing the main thrust for Reynolds’ gauzy lyrics about memory and its inexorable pull. Reynolds cowrote 'Around Your Room' with Sarah Tudzin of Illuminati Hotties, according to a tweet from Tudzin. “This song tells a story of yearning and infatuation. It’s about being hopelessly enamored in a way that took me back to my youthful perception of love,” Reynolds said in a statement. “It represents those moments where you’re fully infatuated with someone and they’re all you can think about. I’ve written about love in a cynical manner in the past and this song was written as a reminder of the magic and euphoria that comes with it.” 'Around Your Room' is the lead single from a new Kississippi album due out next year, Reynolds’ first for Triple Crown. Watch director Josh Coll’s video for the song above. [via Stereogum]

Tank and The Bangas have announced a new EP called Friend Goals. Due out November 20 via Verve Forecast, the six-track, guest-heavy release is being previewed with the track 'Self Care'. The New Orleans-based group are known for their collaborative habits, having this year teamed with the likes of Jacob Collier and Fantastic Negrito. Friend Goals, as the title might suggest, brings together a number of artists Tank and The Bangas have befriended over their career. The follow-up to last year’s Green Balloon LP features guests like CHIKA ('Mr. Insta'), Duckwrth ('Fluff'), PJ Morton ('TSA'), and Pell on the title track. Lead single 'Self Care' actually touts three collaborators: Jaime Woods, Orleans Big, and Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph. The track itself is exactly what we need in 2020, an ode to being with yourself and being damn okay with it. “Chillin’ all by myself/ Netflix, eatin’, cheatin’, by myself, all by myself,” Tarriona “Tank” Ball spits, clearly enjoying her alone time. “Nobody else/ New people to the left/ What is there left but myself?” “‘Self Care’ is THE quarantine song to get you moving,” Ball said in a statement. “It shows that some of the best things can come out from solitude, especially when the beat hits this hard.” Take a listen above via the song’s Fat Happy Media-directed video. New Zealand’s platinum sensation BENEE unveils the official video for her latest single 'Snail'. For the visual, BENEE and director Anita Fontaine deliver a lush and larger-than-life fantasy befitting of the track. In the colorful clip, BENEE wakes up to feed her giant snail roommates and slides around their slime trails before heading to work in her secret elf lab. Soon, she’s cycling out of her home—a concrete replica of her own head—out into a storm. After being struck by lightning, our heroine turns into an elf and cruises through a mushroom wonderland under the glow of an aurora borealis-style blanket of colors across the sky. Reflective of her personality, it pops off as her biggest and boldest video to date. Of the inspiration behind the video, BENEE says, “I knew I wanted the vid to be a weird fantasy story involving snails! I said to Anita that I wanted to be an elf with long braids riding a bike and have giant mushrooms somewhere in the vid...She came back with the treatment, and I loved ittttttt! Her imagination is supa whacky in the best way, and I’m so happy with how ‘Snail’ turned out!”

Bebe Rexha has returned with her new anthem 'Baby, I'm Jealous', which features Doja Cat. 'Baby, I'm Jealous' is Bebe Rexha's first single of 2020, following on from last year's Maleficent: Mistress of Evil track 'You Can't Stop The Girl'. The new track marks the debut collaboration between Bebe Rexha and Doja Cat, and is accompanied by a Hannah Lux Davis-directed visual that stars Charli D’Amelio, Nikita Dragun, and Avani Gregg. Bebe Rexha says the new single is "about embracing my insecurities", and adds, "It’s about the way social media has heightened my jealousy which can affect how I feel about myself. We are constantly flooded with the highlights of other people’s lives, and at times I find myself comparing my worth and beauty to others. It’s part of the human process to experience jealousy - ultimately, this is an anthem to embrace those feelings as a form of empowerment." [via Line Of Best Fit]

Making her grand return to the scene with a striking new single is Brighton-hailed singer Fable, with her new tune 'Thirsty'. With otherworldly tones and harmonising vocals, the singer serves us with a sumptuous genre-bending tune that has us headbanging at every chorus. Known for her bold and atmospheric sonics, the singer accompanies the song with an attention-grabbing video with juxtaposing images of ethereal nature and mental destruction. Speaking on the single, the singer said, “'Thirsty' is about taking the beauty of life for granted. How overtime we write off profound stuff as mundane because it’s a constant; the sky’s always there, but it’s weird and beautiful that we even exist under it. It’s playful at heart but it’s about my realised depression and learning how to reset my perspective through mindfulness,” Having disappeared from the scene back in 2016 due to a personal tragedy, the singer has reconnected to her artistic side and is ready to step back into the spotlight. With the enticing line-up of Joe Lonie (Supergroove), Milan Borich (Pluto), Jol Mulholland (The Reduction Agents) and Morgan Leary (Cindy), Tāmaki Makaurau supergroup Kathy Bates Motel share their latest ear worm 'Cool Your Heels'. The class act's second single, following up debut track 'Damaged Goods', is dangerously catchy, with killer harmonies from vocalists Lonie and Leary. 'Cool Your Heels' will have you moving your feet and hankering for a dance, a need so perfectly met by the Footloose inspired, Joe Lonie directed visuals. Everybody cut foot loose, the weekend and 'Cool Your Heels' have arrived. [via Under The Radar]

Up-and-comers Wargasm recently dropped their fifth single, ‘Backyard Bastards’, and now they’ve released a video to go with it. Shot and edited by Olli Appleyard, the video sees sees Sam Matlock (guitar, vocals) hunting down Ryan Cornall (session drummer) on a manic murder spree that finds its peak in an epic showdown between the two, all the while being cheered on by Milkie Way (bass, vocals) and her dancer squad. You can check out the video for ‘Backyard Bastards’ above. [via Dead Press]

Atlanta-based glam punk rockers Starbenders have released an energetic and evocative music video for their new single 'Can’t Cheat Time' off most recent album Love Potions. 'Can’t Cheat Time' is available now as part of a bundle featuring the original single and an acoustic version. 'Can’t Cheat Time' perfectly pairs frontwoman Kimi Shelter‘s incredible vocal shapeshifting abilities with electrocuted guitars and heart-pounding rhythm for this stand out rock ‘n’ roll anthem. Speaking to the inspiration for the single’s music video, Shelter adds: “‘Can’t Cheat Time’ is a personal favorite amongst the band. This single has a wicked string arrangement reminiscent of Jeff Lynne from ELO’s production style. It was so rewarding hearing all of it come together with the live string players. The accompanying music video is a love letter to the mom and pop businesses that have shaped and supported our very existence. These businesses along with the touring industry have been devastated by the pandemic. We filmed in locations around Atlanta which include the local greasy spoon diner, the record shop, the independent guitar store, the watering hole, and the divey small music venue. While mega-retailers did not close down for even one day, 60% of small to medium-sized businesses in the USA that closed will never reopen. These places are vital to the social and economic health of our cities. We encourage our friends to go to saveourstages.com. Sign up to push legislators to help independent venues though the updated Heroes Act. So many are hurting and on the verge of financial ruin from lighting to sound engineers, musicians, DJs, security, bar staff and venue operators. Our hearts are with you all.“ [via The Girls At The Rock Show]

Scary Horror Movie Quotes
If you are a fan of horror movies you may recognize a few of these classic lines. And, it doesn’t only have to be Halloween when you read them - you can enjoy them anytime.
“When there’s no more room in Hell, the dead will walk the Earth.” – Dawn of the Dead (1978)
“I met this 6-year-old child, with this blank, pale, emotionless face and the blackest eyes… the devil’s eyes. I spent eight years trying to reach him, and then another seven trying to keep him locked up because I realized what was living behind that boy’s eyes was purely and simply… evil.” — Dr. Sam Loomis (Donald Pleasance) in Halloween (1978)
“I am the devil, and I am here to do the devil’s work.” – The Devil’s Rejects (2005)
“They’re Heee-re.” – Poltergeist (1982)
“You start to play it and it’s like somebody’s nightmare. And then this woman comes on, smiling at you, right? Seeing you through the screen. Then when it’s over, your phone rings, someone knows you watched the tape and what they say is, ‘You will die in seven days.'” – The Ring (2002)
“You don’t need eyes for where we’re going.” – Event Horizon (1997)
“You can’t kill the Boogeyman.” – Halloween (1978)
“Where you gonna go, where you gonna run, where you gonna hide? Nowhere… ‘Cause there’s no one like you left.” – Body Snatchers (1993)
“Heeeeeeeeere’s Johnny!” The Shining (1980)
“I am your number one fan. There is nothing to worry about. You are going to be just fine. I am your number one fan.” — Annie Wilkes (Kathy Bates) Misery
“Whatever you do, don’t fall asleep.” — Nancy (Heather Langenkamp) A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
“A boy’s best friend is his mother.” — Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins) Psycho (1960)
“Be afraid… Be very afraid.” – The Fly (1986)
“The symbol is associated with a Pagan deity named Bagul. He consumes the souls of human children. The ancient church believed that Bagul actually lived in the images themselves and that they were gateways into his realm. Children exposed to these images were especially vulnerable to Bagul’s abductions.” – Sinister (2012)
“Meat’s meat, and a man’s gotta eat.” – Motel Hell (1980)
“I’m here to kick ass and chew gum, and I’m all out of bubblegum.” – Roddy Piper in They Live (1988)
“I see dead people” – The Sixth Sense (1999)
“1 – 2 – Freddy’s coming for you, 3 – 4 – Better lock your door, 5 – 6 – Grab your crucifix, 7 – 8 – Better stay up late, 9 – 10 – Never sleep again…” – A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
“Dr. Gordon, this is your wake-up call. Everyday of your working life you have given people the news that they’re gonna die soon. Now you will be the cause of death. Your aim in this game is to kill Adam. You have until six on the clock to do it. There’s a man in the room with you. When there’s that much poison in your blood, the only thing left to do is shoot yourself. There are ways to win this, hidden all around you. Just remember, X marks the spot for the treasure. If you do not kill Adam by six, then Alison and Diana will die, Dr. Gordon…and I’ll leave you in this room to rot. Let the game begin.” – Saw (2004)
“They’re coming to get you, Barbara.” – Night of the Living Dead (1968)
“You’re going to need a bigger boat.” – Jaws (1975)
“We all go a little mad sometimes.” – Psycho (1960) (Norman Bates)

--LOOKING FOR SONGS THAT EXPRESS FASCISM AND INSANITY IN COMPLEMENTARY PROPORTIONS--
June 12, 2022
Coffee Time: 7:25 pm
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, FROM HER TO ETERNITY David Bowie, SCARY MONSTERS Joy Division, UNKNOWN PLEASURES Pink Floyd, SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS
After feeding Louie at around 3, I went back to bed. I had a dream that I was at restaurant and that I was taking pictures there. At some point, something happened that caused me to put my camera down and step away from the table. The thing that happened was some kind of panic inducing crisis (maybe to do with my car, I can’t remember) when I came back to the table, my camera was gone. Earlier in the dream, I had broken the lens hood on the lens that was mounted on the camera, which seems as though my dream had an element of foreshadowing. Anyway, the camera was missing, and some woman tried to interfere with me looking for it. She was very dismissive of the panic I was experiencing, so I had to set her straight. I said, My camera costs $3500, don’t be a c***. Finally, the host helped me, the host was the actress, Kathy Bates, she showed me that a camera club had come through and she set me up with the information to find them. I was ready to do whatever it took, but the panic, anger and fear were all still there. It only went away when I woke up.
Last night, I took a long time to get into work. Longer than I should have, but when I got there, I saw a naked woman walking and pirouetting her chubby body on NW. 16th Ave, just north of Marshall, and then I pulled in and I got a ride out of the lot, before I even wrote the mileage down. This guy was also crazy.
I don’t like taking people who approach me in the lot when I’m first starting, but this guy was insistent, and he seemed ok. He came up wanting to know how much it would cost to get a ride to the Amtrak. I told him, less than $10, but that I wouldn’t be ready for 15 minutes. I’ll wait, he said. I just took him immediately, he paid me before we were even out of the lot. I asked him where he was coming from, and he said, “that place in the desert, Las Vegas.” He spoke as if I might be confused about where he meant if he hadn’t mentioned the desert. He said he was also in LA to talk to his lawyers and then he went up to Whitefish, Montana. He said that he had diplomatic immunity because he married a woman and moved to Peru. On the way to the Amtrak, he wanted to go to the Airport Max: her referred to it as “the train.” I told him that you didn’t catch them in the same place. I might have had an opportunity to drive him all the way to the airport, but I didn’t really want to drive that far with someone so crazy. The grandiosity of his casual journeys alone were signs of delusions. I got him to Pioneer Square and told him to take the red line train. He was grateful.
After another fare, I got roped into taking one from the Motel 6 on Powell. No destination, and the hotel clerk called it in for them. Never a good sign, when a bum motel calls an order in and for someone, without a destination. Good chance to get garbage-barged[1] I pull up to the hotel and an older woman and a younger man were slumped against the wall outside the office. These were my passengers. First thing she says is, “How much to Salem, $200, $300, whatever is I want to go there.” I tell her I’m not sure, but that it’s at least $150. She says fine, and hands me 3 $50 bills.
I guess I’m driving to Salem.
I say, I need to know exactly where we’re going. She stalls me a bit, demanding I give her some time to figure it out, (I do) She’s having trouble staying on topic, complaining about how expensive the motel was (she says they wanted $200 a night to stay in Motel 6) and figuring out where in Salem she was going to go to. I didn’t want to take them, but here was cash money, that I badly needed. She comes up with a cross street, and so we take off.
She chatters all the way down, not talking to me, nor her companion who is quietly enduring her. At one point she begins to ask me to look up the phone number to all the Motel 6 locations in Salem, in case she doesn’t want to stay with the man whose camper is parked on Dearborn and Verda. It’s really not a good idea to search the net on your phone while you’re driving on the freeway or anywhere. She explained all the technical problems with her phone that’s preventing her from doing it herself, including the malfeasance of trac phone, the company. At some point she says forget it, after hearing her request. I just shrugged. It didn’t take that long, and I was already paid. When I got them to where they were going, I dropped them off at an intersection in Keizer and headed back. I thought about going to In-N-Out Burger but I’m sticking to eating only food that the SNAP program provides. On my way back to town, “L” texts me for a ride from some Pride event on SW Broadway, outside the old, ornate US Bank Building. I take him up Interstate Ave to Alberta. While he’s running his credit card, a man approaches me and asks how much it would cost to go to Hillsboro.
That’s how it went, two big fares in a row. I gave the couple going to Hillsboro a discount if they paid cash. They gave me $60 on a $64 dollar fare (the deal was worth it)
Business went extremely well. All of my superstitions were defied. Last night was the night in which I wasn’t cursed. My dreads went unrealized. Instead of being cursed, I was blessed. Instead of suffering I found mercy.
[1] Garbage-Barged: When a taxi picks up a fare that they just can’t seem to drop off, and is doubtful that they will be paid in full, or at all. Getting garbage-barged can take hours. Named for the 1987 Mobro 4000 incident in which a barge towed by two tugs, from Islip, NY to North Carolina, were refused to discharge it’s waste to be incinerated there, and then was forced to move on to find another location to offload it’s garbage, only to be refused by all of the states on the eastern seaboard, and of course the Nations of Mexico and Belize. There you have it, another Emmy nomination prediction list done. Let’s see if I can do better than last year which was, besides the two biggest categories, all over the place. I can see The Crown ending up with the most nominations, maybe with Stranger Things and Feud: Bette and Joan up there as well, with all those below-the-line crafts up for grabs. Veep will probably rule the comedy side again. We’ll see!
