Hey aftg folks do you want some twinyards angst? I can offer some twinyards angst all I need you to do is accept the premise of surrealist baseball. Click here to accept premise:

EXCELLENT! You are now subject to my Infodump.

Surrealist baseball refers in this case to Blaseball, a surrealist horror fantasy baseball simulator that ran for about two years and generated a decent body of fanworks in that time. For this particular flavor of twinyards angst I’ve borrowed from one of my all time favorite Blaseball fics, “good grief”.

The things that were in Blaseball:

Each team had a ‘Shadows’ with players who were never active during games.

For most of the first era of the games the shadow roster was entirely hidden; it was only explored more later in the game.

There were two notable players who died relatively early on named Dominic and Randall Marijuana

The things that were Blaseball fanon (keeping in mind there wasn’t really a canon other than how games went, so the fanon was basically all we had):

Being in the shadows impaired you from interacting with the real world in some way

Dom and Randy Marijuana were brothers

Lenny Marijuana, who later left the shadows of one of the teams, was their father, and being in the shadows prevented him from interacting with them

The things that “good grief” did:

Lenny Marijuana is instead short for Eleanor Marijuana, and is instead Dom and Randy’s younger sister

Being in the shadows specifically means still being able to interact with the world around you normally, but people forget about you as soon as you leave their vicinity.

This effect is more severe on active players to the point where while games are happening you Cannot See the shadows even if they’re right in front of you

And so the twinyards angst in my Blaseball AU:

Aaron and Andrew grew up together

Aaron was interested in Blaseball, but Andrew wasn’t, but still signed on to give Aaron the chance to play

Aaron got signed onto the shadows and Andrew got signed onto the active roster

Andrew, with his eidetic memory, can tell that something is being Erased, but he can’t tell what :)

Aaron eventually figures out that Andrew isn’t just ignoring him but there’s a solid three months where it’s nothing but Aaron yelling at Andrew who doesn’t react at all :)

(As an aside, I’ve made Katelynn into someone similar to Chorby Soul here. What does that mean you ask? Shh. I’ll explain eventually.)

When Kevin Day gets resurrected thanks to the Lottery Pick (long story), the Palmetto Foxes wind up with an overfull pitching roster, and Andrew Minyard Retreats to The Shadows.

Good news! Aaron and Andrew can remember each other now.

Bad news: the three years separate, plus all the tumult of Blaseball, have irrevocably damaged their previous relationship

If I were to write a fic about this it would be about them gradually getting back to a place where they can like. Not hate each other.

(Neil is a Special Boy (related to The Monitor (giant squid who keeps watch on dead players)(it’s Stuart in this case)) who can see and interact with the Shadows normally)

Because of @sadboyayeron ‘s evil ways I’d like to write I how I think the twins (or at least Andrew) react to the awkwardness that finding this out would make anyone feel.

When Katelynn got pregnant there had been a quiet discussion where Aaron and Kate told Andrew about the babies before Nicky because they didn’t want anything to get out just yet because Kate’s family has always been prone to tricky pregnancies and they didn’t want to get everyone’s hopes up when Nicky told the whole wide world. Andrew looked both horrified and as excited let himself show and honestly, Aaron felt the same. Neil was sitting on the couch next to Katelynn with his hand on her baby bump, the pair had become friends in the last couple years and were constantly talking, Kate always told him it was because they both spoke minyard that they go along so well.

Everyone had been drinking, besides Katelynn, and the vibe of the room was more or less relaxed as they talked about doctors visits and when they should be able to tell the sexes. Andrew’s face was quick to turn to less exited and doubly more horrified when “According to genetics you’re technically as much as the father as Aaron because you have the same DNA,” slipped from Katelynn’s lips and Neil struggled not to laugh as both Andrew and Aaron went completely still “Not in the sociological sense but you do share the same DNA, obviously you’re different, Andrew has a better ass and you have different finger prints,” Neil was full on belly laughing and Aaron looked offended. Andrew thoughly objected to the whole thing stating that “I may have been high off my entire ass during the years I had to take bio, but I would fucking remember something like that.” as Aaron explained he knew twins were monozygotic but he never really thought of it when it came to him and Andrew.

The whole situation was completely weird for both twins but Neil and Katelynn looked like the situation was the funniest thing in the goddamn world. The whole situation got even weirder when “So if Andrew got some girl pregnant then the your kids and his would be more of half-siblings than cousins?” Andrew tried to shut down the line of questioning as soon as he heard ‘Andrew get a girl pregnant’ with “I thought we all knew I was gay? Stop with the theoretical children, Neil.” The conversation only moved on after Aaron and Andrew had joint existential crises and Neil and Katelynn had almost pissed themselves laughing. They had to have planned this. They were both too calm and unfazed about the whole thing. Andrew and Aaron where going to find a way to get back at them for springing this on them and effectively short circuiting their brains.

Aaron never really hung out with the ‘athletic’ kids in school and pretty much was known as one of the skater kids by like his 7th grade year

Andrew secretly fucking hates that Aaron skates because he can do all these tricks and shit and Andrew despises how cool he thinks it looks bc he’s not supposed to show his feelings™️

Ok so Aaron had to cut his hair when he and Andrew started up the twin act because he had this darker than is natural color blonde, hair to his shoulders thing going on and that’s how people told him apart from Andrew for awhile.

Aaron Minyard Has A Tony Hawk Shrine

Aaron wore this raggedy ass tony hawk hoodie for like all of forever until Andrew found another one he wouldn’t grow out of in the same discountinued style on eBay

Aaron is also the long boarder dude who long boards around campus. Like he long boards to all of his premed classes and they’res a few ppl like ‘hm skater doctor’ and then everyone is like ‘it’s college fuck it, where’d u buy that?’

Neil has no fucking clue what a kickflip is exactly but he really likes telling Aaron to do them

Aaron has like super cool boards he designed himself and then he has another one with a straight up almost completely naked anime girl on it and Katelynn is just like fml as she roller skates around the skate park near the outer edges of the park

Kate and Aaron are like that couple™️ and Aaron teaches Katelynn to long board after study sessions sometimes and promises to teach her to do tricks on his other board one day

Aaron isn’t a greasy skater boy, I mean he was but that was more because of his living situation. He’s the skater boy that rolls his beanie and cuffs his jeans and shit and it pisses Andrew off but at least he’s not coming for Andrew’s goth aesthetic

Aaron Minyard has a Tony Hawk shrine and all the foxes know about it and there’s like Jesus candles with Tony Hawks face taped over the other face

Yessss, I can imagine the chaos of that group chat but, but just imagine how they meet Aaron.

So Aaron obviously knows that Andrew coaches little league, Aaron has also never met this team in his life because he usually only visits Andrew in the off season (summer) and Andrew visits Aaron in the Winter. Aaron also knows that the team has never seen a picture of Aaron Minyard in their life despite knowing that a brother does exist because Neil has told both parties these facts.

And one day Aaron gets some free time, and Katelynn is visting her sisters or old cheer squad members and decides to go visit his brother, and with the accidental aid of Neil (who he is definitely friends with now okay?) who told Aaron their routine. So Aaron shows up to their exy court before practice and is trying really hard to avoid Andrew because he wants to surprise him.

But ofc he runs into kids, and he’s fairly surprised by the smiles and the greetings they give coach Minyard, and while he’s sneaking around the kids are having some struggles of their own.

Jaime: “have you seen coach?”

El: “yeah he’s down that hall.”

Jaime: “Kay” *runs off*

Luke: no coach was just in the change room

El: no I just saw him walk down the hall

*the arguement escalates once someone is called a liar and then name calling is introduced and everyone is assigned laps by Andrew once it dissolves into a fight that resembles the early foxes*

Sometime on the third lap Aaron has appeared and someone notices both twins standing on like opposite sides of the exy court. Screams of terror can be heard that there are 2 coaches. Andrew clues in and realizes that his twin is the cause of all this chaos.

Somehow Aaron ends up running laps to appease the children (and because it amused Andrew). (Aaron forgot how much he hated running by the second lap)

And Neil regrets missing the whole thing

Imagine Andrew retiring and becoming a coach for a little league or something and for some inexplicable reason all the kids *love* him and call him “Dad” and he acts like they’re all annoying (but ofc they all know he likes them, even if they cause trouble)

One day he just says to Wymack, “this is how you felt, huh?”
