Do you have any new gelphie pairing faves or analyses from your Great Wicked Watch?
OOH THANK YOU FOR ASKING
things are still In Progress, so really the only true conclusion I've reached so far is one I already could have told you: the earlier gelphies are way less gay. Like, mad respect bc they were what we had at the time and there's still plenty there to dream on, but compared to how later actresses play them it's really NOT that queer of an interpretation of either role, and isn't as much to my taste. Chenzel just doesn't Do It for me; Megan Hilty's Glinda is deeply affectionate but it's in such an obvious "hey soul sister" way I don't see My Glinda in her.
some random thoughts in no particular order:
I was very taken with Julia Murney and Kendra Kassebaum's chemistry, though I didn't find any one performance of theirs where I felt like it sustained throughout both acts the way I'd like.
I can now say with confidence it's no WONDER I didn't realize I was a Glinda Girlie in my youth, bc my first live Glinda was Jennifer Laura Thompson and her Glinda is among the colder ones (though not as cold as Kate Reinders SHE DOESN'T EVEN TOUCH ANA GASTEYER ONCE IN FOR GOOD GIRL WHAT GIVES). like it does make me LAUGH when, for example, Galinda says "but that was the milkflowers' fault" as though it ends in "you moron" but it is not my Preferred Reading
(on the other hands Nessas who embrace being a self-absorbed cunt start to finish are fabulous and I love them)
I've surprised myself with how fondly I latched onto Shoshana "Smol Bean" Bean's portrayal of Elphaba bc I usually prefer my Elphies far more acerbic, but her view of the character is so crystal-clear and consistent throughout I can't help but be taken with it
more Elphabas should do the "I'm melting" pose during "so happy I could melt" the way Stephanie J Block does
it is very hard to find a good Fiyero who actually has chemistry with BOTH girls, but a bad Boq will lowkey ruin the show in a way a bad Fiyero honestly doesn't
more Dr Dillamonds should refrain from touching their students sir you are a PROFESSOR, SIR--
my inventing something post was inspired by Annaleigh Ashford's first Popular, which I feel really captured something critical in how it unfolded of like... it's like you can almost watch Galinda start getting addicted, it's this compulsion, how the touches become more frequent and more intimate and she doesn't understand why but can't seem to control herself, and it's such a classic pre-gay-awakening "I don't know I just think she's REALLY COOL and want to be her BEST FRIEND" take on it that I loved
our rewatch has just entered the Katie Rose Clarke era, and as someone who started with her and Willemijn it's fascinating to go back to her first tour with Carmen and see how genuinely she WAS trying to play the scenes with Fiyero straight which she eventually gave up on lmao
okay I could probably keep yammering but I'm gonna cut it off there for now

Okay… real talk now, just between us girlies.
Aaron, if you’re reading this, you’re one of us and you’re always welcome in.
Tumblr media
We joke, argue, and moan a lot about the J/C stuff - especially now with Prodigy being the latest new canon story. We all know, at the end of the day, they’re not real. However, what they represent and the impact they have on the audience is very real.
I watched Voyager back in the day when I was in primary school. My emotionally undeveloped self quickly picked up on the J/C stuff, and soon I found myself watching the show more and more, hoping that today’s episode would be about them or at least feature a lot of scenes with them together. I vividly remember the heartbreak after watching "Endgame" and being so confused on what I had just witnessed. I remember expecting the next episode, which never came, and feeling so confused. I felt betrayed by the show and didn’t want anything to do with it anymore. I was just a kid - exactly the target audience that Prodigy aims to reach.
Now, as an adult, that kid in me still feels that betrayal. I’ve always leaned on imaginary characters as a coping mechanism. As a girl who never quite fit into traditional gender roles and was often criticized for not being "girly" enough or not aligning with societal expectations, I found solace in the reversed gender norms between Janeway and Chakotay. At the time, I didn’t realize that this was what appealed to me so much.
What I’m trying to say is that making Janeway and Chakotay canon, no questions hanging, healthy relationship and all, is an incredible narrative tool to show that women can be in the position of power, having a career while also being in a loving, supportive relationship. It would teach younger audiences, especially girls, that they don’t have to choose between career and relationship and, more importantly, that they don’t have to strip down parts of who they really are to fit into a gender role box to be accepted as a proper woman.
I get frustrated watching interviews with Kate because whenever she asks why fans want the J/C relationship to become romantic, she never gets a good answer. I understand her pushback to some extent because I don’t think a man could ever give her an answer that truly resonated with her. Men don’t think about the constant criticism that women face about not being "womanly" enough. Kate gets told that fans want the relationship because she deserves it and that is the problem. It’s not about what she deserves - it's about the women who have been constantly told from a young age what is “appropriate” for them and that if they don't change they'll end up alone cause no man will want them. They’re the ones who truly deserve to see that they can have both, represented in a strong character like Janeway, whom they’ve admired be it for a year or over 20 years
Men do face their own set of pressures though, like being told they aren’t “man enough,” which can contribute to toxic masculinity. However, Prodigy has addressed this issue beautifully through Chakotay. He’s a wonderful example of strong, non-toxic masculinity, embodying the true essence of what it means to be a man. Season 2 did a fantastic job showcasing this with both Dal and Chakotay. I just wish we could see that same level of depth and growth for Janeway, particularly for young girls who look up to her. Right now, the message feels as if you have to choose between pursuing a career or pursuing a relationship.
Truth be told, I think a big part of the issue is that Kate views Janeway as Prodigy’s lead character, which might make her feel that maintaining the “will they or won’t they” tension is necessary to keep the audience engaged. That perspective might be true if the show were solely focused on Janeway like Voyager was, but Prodigy is so much more than that. The core of Prodigy is really about the young crew and their journey. In fact, younger viewers are likely more interested in the relationship between Gwyn and Dal. I truly believe that making J/C canon wouldn’t hurt the show - instead, it could provide a positive example for the young crew and their audience to look up to. Find solace in them just as I have when I was their age, minus the horrible heartbreak thanks to Endgame lol

Kenneth Branagh’s 1996 Hamlet is terrible (I want to apologize for this post as it is a bit all over the place)
1. While Branagh might be a fine stage actor (I have never seen him perform live so this is based on what I’ve heard), he doesn’t understand how to translate a performance from stage to screen. One of the fundamental differences between performing live vs on film is that theatre needs to be over the top and larger than life so that people in the very back of the audience can see. This style of performing doesn’t look good on screen because film allows the audience to appreciate the subtleties of a more natural performance. Branagh’s performance as Hamlet is far too over the top for film. Everything from his facial expressions to his vocal inflections are too grand for the films close up’s.
2. This may be more of a criticism of Kenneth Branagh as a person but I cannot get over the fact that Kate Winslet was cast as Ophelia at about 17 and played the role when she was 20. If you have seen the film you might know about a certain scene a 36 year old Kenneth Branagh decided to add. In general I find that scene unnecessary and I can’t help but feel weird about it knowing that it isn’t in the original text and how young Kate Winslet was. I know this is common in the film industry, unfortunately, but Branagh has a bit of a bad history with women. I do want to add that Kate Winslet as Ophelia was honestly the best part of this movie, she is incredibly talented.
3. Hamlet’s death in this film is painfully awkward. When reading the play everyone in my class imagined Hamlet dying in Horatio’s arms, when you look up “Hamlet’s death” on google every image is of him dying in Horatio’s arms. From what is in the text, it seems like Hamlet physically takes the cup of poison from Horatio and almost every production I’ve watched of Hamlet has had similar blocking. However, Kenneth Branagh decided to go in a completely different direction. Instead of Horatio holding Hamlet, he has Horatio stand awkwardly at a distance. Instead of Horatio quickly trying to drink the poison and Hamlet throwing it away, Branagh has Horatio awkwardly shake while holding the cup as Hamlet screams at him. There is no tenderness, no camaraderie between two close friends, Horatio doesn’t comfort his best friend in his final moments. Horatio’s actor, Nicholas Farrel, does the best he can with the direction he was given. He looks heartbroken, but the blocking really doesn’t work. I’m not sure why Branagh decided to do this especially because if you look at photos from when he played Hamlet on stage, Hamlet died in Horatio’s arms. I feel like this decision reduces Horatio’s character to simply a loyal servant. In my opinion it gets rid of a very beautiful moment. No matter how you read Hamlet and Horatio’s relationship, it’s undeniable that they are an important part in one another’s lives and deciding that that isn’t the case shows a clear misunderstanding of the text.
4. Once again, while I don’t know why Branagh decided to block Hamlet’s death like that, I can’t help but feel it’s because he wanted Hamlet to seem more masculine. Branagh has a tendency to overdo the masculinity in his films. His Agatha Christie films, for example, all have added unnecessary action scenes, action as a genre is typically very masculine. Hamlet doesn’t have too much added action aside from the absolutely ridiculous blocking in the final act, but I feel like Hamlet is masculinized in other areas, his death possibly being one of them. Another is his more aggressive nature than that of other Hamlet portrayals. A core part of Hamlet’s character is his “femininity.” While one could argue that Branagh’s Hamlet’s over the top display of masculinity could how he decided to show Hamlet’s struggle, but considering Branagh’s choices in other films he has directed I don’t think I can give him that much credit.
5. The cinematography and editing in the film is terrible. This is apparent in every Kenneth Branagh film, it’s especially painful in Hamlet and Murder on the Orient Express. In Hamlet the shots are awkwardly set up and the editing doesn’t help. I will never get over the nauseating shot where the camera circles the characters.
6. A lot of Branagh’s direction is incredibly showy. If you need to rely on cheap stunts to draw in an audience, you shouldn’t be directing Shakespeare. It’s a hard sell for sure, but people who like Shakespeare know how exciting his works are. Hamlet is a masterpiece, if Branagh seriously thought the work alone wasn’t enough why on earth would anyone let him make his own adaptations. He doesn’t even trust the source material!
7. In an interview Kenneth Branagh said something about how you need to be older to understand how to play Hamlet and I already made multiple posts about how stupid that idea is so I won’t go over that again, yall should check out my other posts though.
8. Back on Hamlet’s death: the Jesus motif is so… so Kenneth Branagh. I think in general Branagh believes he has a deeper understanding of Hamlet than he actually does. Hamlet is not a god, he’s a scared and stupid kid (A 30 year old can still be a stupid kid shush). He sees Hamlet as a far more grand story than it really is. It’s similar to how people don’t understand Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet is not a love story, it’s a tragedy. Hamlet is not your traditional hero’s journey, it’s a tragedy. Tragic hero’s are not the same as hero’s you would find in something like an epic or an action film, they aren’t larger than life hero’s they’re just people. Shakespeare’s tragedies are meant to explore human emotions by exaggerating them and creating extreme scenarios that would lead the characters to act in the way that they do. Hamlet is about grief and what it can do to a person. A tragic hero is helpless, what makes it a tragedy is not punishment for a characters actions but something that is completely undeserved being thrown upon the character. This concept is something I just don’t think Branagh understands.
I have more to say about this film but I think that would require a rewatch for me to get everything down. I also apologize if I didn’t get my points across very well, and feel free to disagree with me on any of these. I will say I am very biased. As a long time Agatha Christie fan I have absolutely hated his takes on her books for a while now. I went into this film with an opinion on him but this film did not help.
Anyway, I think any and every interpretation of Hamlet is valid but Kenneth Branagh’s is the incorrect one.

Would love your take on kates authenticity plant please. It was discussed on a UK show a few weeks back and authentic was the word I kept hearing. The host had kids in Thomas's when the then Cambridges went and everyone loved kate there
Oh boy, this is where I lose the Kate stans.
Let me preface this by making two points. First, I wasn’t always a Kate fan. I thought she behaved very well during the courtship (particularly during the breakup) and I loved the wedding (particularly the Halo tiara), but I was disappointed during the first years of the marriage when they weren’t working full time, and she seemed to be hopping from project to project haphazardly. That was not what I expected from a woman who had graduated college, who seemed to have a serious interest in photography and art history, and who had handled the intense press scrutiny of her dating years with dignity and effectiveness. I was very critical of her at this point.
And so were others. I don’t think Kate was perceived as “authentic” back then, as evidenced by the brutal Hilary Mantel essay that compared her to a mannequin and the reaction to her National Gallery portrait. The woman in the portrait was mature, self-assured and professional, and that was simply not the image Kate was projecting at that time.
But it is the image she’s projecting NOW. This Princess of Wales we are seeing now with the professional suits, ambitious projects, polished family image, and artistic patronages is what I expected to see from the disciplined, family-oriented, savvy St. Andrew’s graduate who married Prince William. I think this is the authentic Kate, finally growing into her role. It’s amazing to me that the artist captured that so perfectly way back then.
And I think that’s why she is getting the (well-deserved) accolades now. The post-2011 fairy-tale princess in bouncy curls, stiff coatdresses and matchy-matchy clutches never seemed quite real, but the post-2021 princess in boot-cut slacks (so like her college jeans) and pussy-bow blouses (just like in her portrait) with her tote bag and Starbucks cup seems very real. This Kate—with her Norfolk country house, Range Rover public school runs, cozy family pics, and adorably unruly youngest son—is exactly what we thought she would be.
She’s the same Kate we saw from 2004-2011. She’s family-oriented, disciplined, self-controlled, discreet, stylish, and reserved, and she doesn’t pretend to be anything else. She likes the country, photography, skiing, and tennis, and those are interest she has genuinely held for decades. She sticks by her family and supports her siblings. She still wears the same Penelope Childers boots. She still skies in the same French resort with her family. She has had the same nanny for more than a decade. She wears the same designers. The only deviations I have seen in my years of royal watching is that Mustique is not a preferred beach vacation spot anymore (I guess because the in-laws have their own resort) and there have been a distressing lack of Kiki purchases lately. Otherwise, she has stayed true to type.
Now, that’s real authenticity.

Genderbending Sophie
tldr hamliet watches Bridgerton for the vibes and the fandom dissolves into shambles and now I'm mad at the horrible things people are saying with their full chest (on both sides, but definitely one more than the other) so I'm going to write about it.
I actually have some criticisms of the Michael/Michaela change. And not all criticism of this is homophobic in nature. My main one is that Michael's personality is going to be extremely hard to make work as Michaela in the established world of Bridgerton, what with its misogyny as kinda a major plot point in every single female character’s storyline so far. Michael’s “merry rake” personality makes him the character I personally saw as least fitting for a gender switch.
Tumblr media
That said, I am interested to see what they do with this switch—maybe Michaela will be a “fallen woman” or something of the sort. And while I am sad about losing the infertility plotline, I do think there are other ways to incorporate it. Yet it is a new story, so fans who are disappointed are allowed to express that.
But I’ve long been a proponent of genderbending Sophie, or at least having gender-nonconforming Sophie, both of which seem entirely possible. Benedict’s story works so well with queer subtext—the fact that to be with Sophie, he has to literally choose to leave society in other to be with her and retreats to the country so they can live happily because society will never accept them, and he chooses not to need that acceptance—all of this works really well with a gay love interest. And a gay Cinderella story would be a fun twist.
Yes, in the novel Sophie's role as an illegitimate child and servant girl does play a significant role, but I don't think it plays a role we don't already see in the series. The main issue of Sophie's societal rejection is class, not her gender (though that exacerbates it). Being queer would also potentially exacerbate this, albeit in a different way.
It's also worth noting that lesbian relationships were never explicitly illegal in England. Male homosexuality, however, was very much illegal. Sorry, but I can definitely see this being an interesting aspect to explore. A lot of plot points for Sophie's story easily adapt to this storyline with subtext that works even in today's world (being attacked by strong men who see a weak opponent? being arrested for grasping at happiness when you can find it?), forcing the world of Bridgerton to confront this head on in a way that echoes through the misogyny text of literally every other Bridgerton story.
And that said, I do think it's valid for people to want female!Sophie and to be disappointed if she is genderbent without being homophobic. Because it would be a different story. (I for one really don't want them to give Eloise a female love interest.) But...
The sheer vitriol, the silencing of any opinion that disagrees, the TERF talking points about how ciswomen's perspectives are being erased? Girl, get outta here with that. There are literally SO many ciswomen characters on this show whose struggles with how their genders are perceived have been explored and will be.
Daphne, whose gender-induced ignorance about sex leads to her committing assault (not that the show handled this remotely well). Mary Sharma, who had to flee society after marrying a poor man. Edwina, who is only accepted by her grandparents if she marries well. Kate, who pursues happiness for her sister at the expense of herself, because she is already a class outsider. Violet, who begs Antony to tell the doctor to listen to her when he's told to choose mother or child to save in childbirth. Penelope, who struggles with balancing her passion with her prospects for the future. Prudence and Philippa, whose wellbeings reside in their abilities to bear sons. Portia, who schemes to scam the ton in order to save her daughters and herself. Cressida, whose own internalized misogyny and helplessness leads to her inflicting it on others. Eloise, who is resentful of having no options. Francesca and Michaela's stories will certainly address this. Marina, who had to marry someone she doesn't love. If we get them, Lucy, Hermione, and Hyacinth's stories will also tie into this.
So don't you dare say that ciswomen and their struggles are being erased.
Tumblr media
And that's really something that's bothering me--that people who have genuine questions or disappointments about any gender swapping are lumped in with the loud, screaming mobs that are thinly veiling their homophobia (and in this case racism). Many of them are being respectful and don't deserve to be accused of something so serious.
Yet the reason for others being extremely kneejerk defensive is a because most of the talking points I've seen are TERF-related or homophobic, as in they only want to see suffering for gay people and can't fathom them having a happy ending in Regency England. When while there are challenges, they absolutely can, especially in a world as haphazard and vibey and escapist as Bridgerton's. Like if you're watching for deep plot and themes I don't know what to tell you.
Also, the books will always exist. If you love Michael or Sophie (if they change her story), the book is still there for you to love. They're not erasing it and saying you can never prefer it or read it again. And you can be disappointed and express that in a way that isn't God-awful.
Lastly, the way people talk about the queer showrunner (who is a ciswoman herself) is kind of horrifying. She's writing "self insert fanfic," she should "know her place," she's ruining everything--y'all sound like The Fandom Menace. Maybe consider not insulting a queer woman in a way that implies she's overstepping, and keep it to the plot changes and workability thereof? And again, you can have criticisms of how she ran the show--I have writing issues with season 3 (and 1 actually)--but why do you need to make it a personal attack on her as a human being?
Anyway, popular franchise has toxic fanbase, and water is wet.

I wasn’t a huge fan of Meghan — didn’t even know who she was when the KP statement came out, even though I had been into Suits the first season — but I fell more in the camp of “Harry seems happy so she must be cool! Let’s support her!”
They announced the engagement and I was still on board. Even told my boss that I’d be taking some time off in the spring (thinking they’d do the royal thing and marry on a Friday). Watched the engagement interview, thought they were cute together, they were having fun with it. Cool, cool, cool. Realized I would be in London two months after the wedding, got super excited, planned to buy some of the memorabilia.
But then they announced they were marrying on a Saturday, for the Americans back home, and it’s starting at 12pm too, for the Americans back home…that’s kinda weird, prioritizing a television broadcast for 300 million strangers over family traditions but you do you, I guess.
Then the perfume ads with the $60K see-through gown that she’s never worn again showed up and I noped out of there faster than a bank robber in a getaway car.
Which is about the same time I discovered the Daily Mail comments section, kept reading about these “three blind mice” on tumblr and fired up the old blog to find out what was going on and found my people. Then they started getting weird too and I found the calmer, more critical-thinky, more rational side of *waves hand at everything* with Plant and Soap, who eventually led me to you, Empress, Honey, Helena, and a few others.
(Also I didn’t buy the H&M memorabilia when I was in London, and I even did the Windsor Castle, KP, and BP staterooms tours. I remember walking into the one of the gift shops and the shelves were so overcrowded with H&M wedding stuff. It was so obvious nothing was moving and no one was buying. One of the shop girls told me that the Royal Collection had overestimated the interest in H&M - the projections were based on Will and Kate’s collections with adjustments for US sales because of Meghan - and the RCT was really scrambling to sell it off so everything was like 80% discounted. Eugenie and Jack got a much smaller order of their collection and was actually selling better than H&M’s, even full priced.)
Then the perfume ads with the $60K see-through gown that she’s never worn again showed up and I noped out of there faster than a bank robber in a getaway car.
You KILLED me with this! DYING laughing. My dog got worried i was laughing so hard hahahaha!
Since I didn't like her straight away but it was hard to find people that felt the way I did at the time I actually googled "people who hate Meghan Markle" and Tumblr popped up. I created a blog (shut that one down and created this one) and the rest is history as you say.
I will say 2017-2018 on here was WILD!
The reason she wanted the US audience was so she could have more "viewers" than William and Catherine did. Had nothing to do with her wanting her fellow Americans to tune in and everything to do with her having to have it bigger and better than Catherine. Hence the massive amounts of memorabilia left over. I bet they demanded more items or the same amount be created as for William and Catherine. Also, remember this was when Harry and Meghan were CONVINCED that they were the STARS of the BRF and everyone else was boiling with jealousy over how amazing Meghan was at her new role and she was the best pre-duchess to ever duchess and all the others were just plain ole jelly. So it stands to reason that Meghan 100% believed her face would outsell Catherine's.

Team Starkid Does Into the Woods
Narrator: Lauren Walker
She's the iconic narrator Molag in Firebringer, if I want anything narrated, I'm calling her.
The Baker: Corey Dorris
I've been on the Give Corey Dorris A Lead Role train for a while (even though I'm very new to Tumblr) so this was easy for me. Also, is "A father who's not the best person but is trying his goddamn best" describing The Baker or Bill from TGWDLM?
The Baker's Wife: Bryce Charles
I'm so hyped for her to be the star of Team Starkid's next show, and I need to hear her sing Moments in the Woods.
Cinderella: Lauren Lopez
I don't feel like I need to explain this one? The vibes are just correct.
Jack: James Tolbert
I've only seen him in Black Friday and like 2 seconds of NPMD but he has such a sincere earnestness to his performance, I think he would be a great Jack.
Jack's Mother: Rachel Soglin
She's my favourite exhausted mother in Trail to Oregon, this is the same part but meaner and without an idiot husband falsettoing in a wagon with a floor window.
Cinderella's Stepmother: Mary Kate Wiles
(She's in Working Boys so she counts as Team Starkid) She has a wonderfully dry delivery and while in Spies Are Forever, she uses it for a Jaded Hero character, I want to see her use it for a truly cruel character.
Florinda and Lucinda: Angela Giarratana and Jaime Burns
Both wonderful comedic actresses who would definitely make these relatively small parts very memorable.
Little Red Riding Hood: Mariah Rose Faith Casillas
Is this just an excuse for a (albeit not as direct) third "Corey is Mariah's Father" casting? Yeah, kinda. But also Mariah is amazing in pretty much any part.
The Witch: Jaime Lynn Beatty
This feels so obvious. Her physical acting, character work and amazing belt are MADE to play the Witch. I am always open to constructive criticism except for this one.
Cinderella's Mother: Brittany Coleman
According to the Team Starkid Wiki, she's played this part in the Baltimore Centre Stage production, so she not only would obviously slay this part, she HAS already slayed this part.
Wolf/Cinderella's Prince: Joey Richter
Hmm, who do I get to play two parts, one who's supposed to be creepy and one who's supposed to be irresistibly sexy? I dunno. Anyway, Joey Richter has such amazing range, he plays skeevy villains like Mcdoon (the bandit king) in Trail to Oregon and Wiley in Black Friday , but also is so hot and charming as Ethan in Nightmare time and as Owen in Spies are Forever. Don't know why I bring that up now.
Rapunzel: Kim Whalen
Soprano Queen, actual princess. Also, I want her and Curt to play an actual couple
Rapunzel's Prince: Curt Mega
Not to fall into the Internet Wife Guy Trap but Curt seems so in love with his wife and I think he would be so good as the prince who would do anything to be with her (God please don't pull a Ned Fulmer Curt I swear to God). Also, if you haven't seen him and Joey do Agony for Shitty Broadway, please go watch it, it's amazing.

Note
Hammon’s loyalty to the vets clouded her judgment. She blurred the lines with them. If you watched the Chelsea Gray video on the Aces’ YT channel - you’ll get what I mean. It talks about her foot injury. Hammon had a plan for her to come back around August/September. She insisted on coming back early and Hammon caved in. Anyone with eyes could see Chelsea was not healthy when stepped on that court.
Jackie Young got sick earlier in the season and when Hammon was asked if she was going to play, Becky answered with, “If Jackie said she’s good, she’ll play.” Jackie had a horrible game that night and sat out the game vs the Sparks (Martin started). She was hurt after the Olympics, and played through her injury - wouldn’t put it past her in telling Becky she can play.
Instead of saving her players from themselves, Hammon let them make the decision for her. She’s the head coach, she should have done what was right instead of what her players wanted. Gray’s age goes against her in terms of healing and recovery. I am worried that she just made it worse and am hoping that her condition does not turn out mine CP3’s did - because they had the same injury.
My only other concern with Hammon is her loyalty and vibes in the locker room. I fear that she will keep Bell just to appease Jackie Young (FYI, Jackie is BFFs with Bell). I hope she does not protect Bell just for vibes and for Jackie over Kate because even after being 3 yrs in the W, Bell has not improved on her defense while Kate showed more in the first 26 mins she played.
Becky does not like to sign younger players because she knows they’ll demand more playing time. Her and the GM prefer to sign role players. Who’s that gonna be in FA?
If KP leaves, Hayes is the most logical replacement and Tip was more consistent than KP. Tip can also score and defend.
I hope it works out with Kitley and that her college play translates in the W because sometimes, it just doesn’t.
I did question if the coaching staff made recommendations about the rotation, because the 1st half of the season - that rotation was working. Then, after the Olympics, all of a sudden, it changed and it got even shorter during playoffs.
Her main flaw is not holding the players to the same standards. If a starter messes up, bench them. Don’t let them keep playing and keep making costly mistakes.
Stretched too thin! That’s been the name of the game for the Aces this season. And yep I did watch that Chelsea episode. She absolutely came back way too soon. That decision seemed to have been made with Paris in mind only.
Or both the fact that they were struggling majority of the first half of the season without her but they seriously rushed her back too early. And again, that falls back on Hammon. Had she had a tactical plan before this season even started, I don’t think things would’ve turned out the way it did.
“Hammon’s loyalty to the vets clouded her judgment.”
Yeah that about explains it all. The vet loyalty was basically the sole choice they had. So, her vet loyalty wasn’t an option because there was no other solution available to not have to fall back on. I mean, what could be done if Chelsea didn’t return pre the August/September timeframe? The record before then would’ve been well under .500. That clinched playoff spot would’ve been nonexistent. But it was not worth the risk of Chelsea’s full recovery and maybe further damage—but it happened anyway. I remember that Jackie illness too and the response and the performance. These decisions with giving the vets too much agency on their injuries to me has a lot to do with not having any alternatives. No bench depth will have you making or allowing irrational decisions to be made because the situation is critical.
This struggle patch/ slump and champion’s curse (like the Oscar’s curse) I hope doesn’t last multiple, consecutive seasons. It’s only a season (literally and figuratively).
On Kitley’s official playing year: she’ll be fine. The rookie bigs I use as references are Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso (especially Cardoso who did suffer an injury early on but came back very engaged on the court). They both transitioned extremely well from collegiate to pro.

background
TW: Death
Leila Williams grew up in a poor but very loving family. Her parents, in spite of their personal struggles and the responsibility that had to be thrust onto her as the eldest child, were nevertheless always very supportive of her ambitions. She worked hard, did well in school, and was eventually awarded a full ride scholarship to study pre-law.
She was thriving in college, and things seemed to finally be looking up, until halfway through her second year she received the news that her little brother had been killed in a drive-by shooting. He hadn't even been the target, only an innocent bystander struck by a stray bullet, but the killer was never caught or brought to justice. Although she did her best to carry on, Leila ended up dropping out of college and enrolling in the police academy instead, and it was during her time there that she met Tricky Gallagher.
He was a Marine fresh off his first tour, and while she had never intended on starting a long-term relationship with anyone at that age, there was something about them that simply clicked. It didn't always work, and their relationship was almost as tumultuous as their professional lives, but every time they broke things off, she always found a reason to try again. When he decided to come back for good, she was hopeful enough that things might finally stabilise between them that she agreed to relocate with him and his little brother Addison, whom she had grown very close to over the years.
Unsurprisingly, Huntsville was not the fresh start that she had hoped it would be. Not only was it a hell town straight out of a horror movie, but the problems they'd had for years didn't go away just because they moved to a new place—if anything, they only seemed to get worse. At times, Leila felt like she was carrying the weight of their whole family and it didn't take long for it to start wearing her down. She loved Tricky, but she resented having to watch him keep self-destructing, and yet even as the feelings she'd once felt faded, they simply had too much history for her to bring herself to leave.
Things finally came to a permanent end five months ago when he cheated on her and they both reached their breaking point. She was hurt, and it was a devastating way to end a relationship she had been in for more or less half her life, but she knows in her heart that breaking up was for the best. She's ready to move on, but then again, who has the time? She is far too busy with work and her many other responsibilities.
