Multiverse Diplomacy
Star Trek Femslash Week Fandom: Discovery Pair: Cornwell/ Mirror Georgiou Other Characters: Michael Burnham (POV) Word Count: 693 Rating: T Prompt: Enemies to Lovers Michael tries to keep Admiral Cornwell and Emperor Georgiou from killing each other... with middling success.
"This is not your universe, Emperor. You are not in charge here." Admiral Cornwell's voice is firm, confident, commanding, despite her small stature. Of course, the Emperor is a small woman too but Michael has already learned not to underestimate Philippa Georgiou in any universe.
"The only reason I am not in charge here is because I do not want to be," Georgiou counters. She doesn't move but her eyes flash dangerously as she holds Cornwell's gaze. "Send me home, and that won't change," she says casually, though not casually enough to fully obscure the underlying threat in her words.
Michael watches as the two women stare each other down, neither one willing to blink first. If not for her own Vulcan upbringing, she would surely be squirming in her boots. Instead, she makes an attempt at diplomacy. "Emperor, you only narrowly escaped a violent revolution in your universe," Michael reasons. "Surely you would prefer political asylum here rather than certain death there."
"I do not need your protection," Georgiou snaps. Her tone leaves no room for argument, and even though she is speaking to Michael, her dark eyes remain fixed on Cornwell's ethereal blue.
"My mistake. Next time I will let you die," Michael says coldly. Two (or rather, three) can play at this game.
The Admiral takes a few deliberate steps towards the Emperor who immediately counters and soon the two women are circling each other like rival lionesses preparing to pounce. "The resemblance truly is remarkable," the Admiral purrs, sizing the other woman up.
"I cannot say if you resemble your counterpart or not," the Emperor replies with a sneer. "She was never important enough to be worthy of my attention."
The Admiral's nostrils flare involuntarily and the Emperor's sneer turns into a wicked smile at the other woman's momentary loss of control.
"I wouldn't recommend ignoring me now, your highness. I just might be the only thing standing between you and an airlock," the Admiral snarls.
The two women have moved closer as they circled and are now mere inches apart. Georgiou appears to be sniffing Cornwell, like a wild animal. "So, dear Admiral, what do you plan to do with me?" Georgiou asks, leaning dangerously close to the Cornwell's ear, close enough that Michael fears she may try to bite it off.
"Oh, I have a few ideas…" Cornwell growls in response
Michael, desperate to keep the two women from coming to blows, blurts out the first thing she can think of. "The Emperor conquered the Klingons in her universe. She may be able to help us win this war."
Both of the older women freeze and then their heads snap towards Michael, eerily in sync. Cornwell looks surprised, as if she had forgotten Michael was in the room. Georgiou, on the other hand, seems fully aware that Michael has been watching and she narrows her eyes preditorily and bares her teeth.
"Specialist Burnham, your assistance is no longer needed. You may go," Admiral Cornwell orders, with a surprising amount of calm considering.
"I only-"
"Out. Now," the Admiral commands, point to the door for good measure as she returns her focus to the Emperor.
As the door slides shut, the Emperor gives Michael a self-satisfied smirk and a fluttering wave that puts a pit in Michael's stomach. She really hopes Cornwell knows what she's doing.
Over an hour later, Admiral Cornwell emerges to find Michael still hovering in the corridor. The woman is wearing a smug smile and looks surprisingly satisfied.
"Admiral, did you come to an agreement?" Michael asks, falling into step behind Cornwell.
The Admiral seems to have regained her composure and is all business again. "We found a way to work together. Any further details are above your rank, Specialist. Now, surely you have more important things to do than hanging around in hallways?"
"Yes, Admiral." Michael nods and falls back to allow the Admiral to continue on without her. It's only when she gets a clear view of Cornwell walking away that Michael notices the very un-admiral-like sway of her hips and she has to wonder: What the hell went on in there?

You saw me start to believe for the first time//You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter//You are the best thing that's ever been mine – Katrina Cornwell/Raffi Musiker
A/N: Here's Day 2 part 1 for @startrekfemslashweek . A little angsty songfic with friends-to-lovers in there. Some cross trek ship here but they are both still women in trek so..., enjoy.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
I was a flight risk, with a fear of falling Wondering why we bother with love, if it never lasts
Do you remember we were sitting there by the water? You put your arm around me for the first time You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter You are the best thing that's ever been mine… Raffi would always remember when friendship slipped into more. She had never meant to fall for Kat, the woman was warm and sweet and kind and everything she could ever want but she’s never known anything except pain and running away…. Even when she wants to. She remembers that night now clearly. Kat, her arm around her waist, the cool breeze. It had been perfect. One perfect night of friendship… friendship she wanted to become so so much more. It wasn’t that, not then, but now…
We're taking on the world together You learn my secrets, and you figure out why I'm guarded You say we'll never make my parents' mistakes
Do you remember we were sitting there by the water? You put your arm around me for the first time You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter You are the best thing that's ever been mine
Do you remember all the city lights on the water? You saw me start to believe for the first time You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter You are the best thing that's ever been mine They had talked that night. Raffi admitting all the things that worried her about falling in love, about making friends. Kat had been quiet, listened, supported her, chosen to say only one thing, the promise they always kept. “We’ll never make your parents mistakes… or my parents mistakes. Ever.” She had been so sure, so very sure. Raffi had not been. Still wasn’t, not completely, even now. Even after everything else that had happened. She’d moved into Kat’s life, her home, her work but things were tough, always so tough. She had been sure she screwed it up somewhere along the way. She didn’t want to. She would never want to lose Kat.
And I remember that fight, 2:30 a.m As everything was slipping right out of our hands I ran out crying, and you followed me out into the street
Braced myself for the goodbye 'Cause that's all I've ever known Then you took me by surprise You said, "I'll never leave you alone" You said, "I remember how we felt, sitting by the water And every time I look at you, it's like the first time I fell in love with a careless man's careful daughter She is the best thing that's ever been mine" 2:30 AM was always tricky. No matter where they were, but when they had been back at the Academy, supposed to talk about their work and their jobs…. It had been easy for Raffi to know she was losing everything she wanted. She’s quick to leave, speechless, shaking, sobbing as she ran away. She knew she was losing Kat, she had to be. How could Kat ever want a mess like her…. Kat follows, grabs her arm, tugs her back and around and Raffi braces. This is it. Goodbye forever. Forget my name. Forget me. The same words that always come. They always come. So they must be coming…. “I’ll never leave you alone Raff…” Kat’s eyes are bright with her own tears and Raffi barely dares believe her. Kat’s tears escape, a hot, rough, sob escapes and Raffi risks it all, steps closer, brushing the tears away and kisses her, spellbound even now. “I remember how we felt, sitting by the water…. Every time I look at you it’s like the first time…” A pause, a breath. “I fell in in love with a careless man’s careful daughter… she is the best thing that’s ever been mine. You, Raffi, are the best thing I have ever had… I can’t lose you.” “You haven’t.” Her voice breaks and Raffi inhales a little, then steps a little closer. “How could I let you go…. We went from friends to lovers… Kat… It’s always been you.” Silence falls, Kat’s tears dry slowly and Raffi keeps brushing them away, her breath catching when Kat pulls her closer again, kissing her with such possessive force that Raffi moans into her mouth, kissing back just as fiercely. They’ve come so close to losing it all, but this time… this time they have survived.

Among the many reasons I want us to see Una Chin-Riley interact with another Illyrian and have their cultural greeting/goodbye be holding each other by the elbow is because that would change the context of this:
Tumblr media
and thereby bless all the Cornwell fic writers with more canon … and the chance for Kat to pick up a partner like a sack of potatoes and carry them around.

Kat's Rude Awakening
Admiral Cornwell wakes up on a strange ship with people she doesn't remember, holes in her memory, and probably a bad headache, once again proving that nobody in the Star Trek universe is ever really dead.

Katoberfest 2024!
This year's Katoberfest will be held October 20-27, 2024.
There are seven days of prompts + a free day:
Sunday October 20: Sleeping under the stars or “I care for you.”
Monday October 21: Outsider POV or “You made your choice.”
Tuesday October 22: Doors don't work that way or “I could never leave you behind.”
Wednesday October 23: Prank war or “Drop the attitude.”
Thursday October 24: Seated together at the bar or “You don’t seem like yourself.”
Friday October 25: Kat can’t sleep or “Are you sure you want to do this? Because there’s no turning back.”
Saturday October 26: Where is Katrina Cornwell right now?
Sunday October 27: Free Day
There are extra challenges:
The Katrina: post every day
The Cornwell: combine both of the day’s prompts into one work
The Vice Admiral: Kat is dead but [your choice] can still see her
The Admiral: create one work that includes at least five of the fifteen available prompts.
The Price of Command: Kat glimpses what her life may have been if one pivotal event had not happened, or had happened differently.
There are no requirements or limits to any medium (e.g. word count, art style, length of vid or pod, etc.).
You may answer as many, or as few, as you like and there is no specific format. The prompts are jumping off points and may be considered in universe or meta. Answers may take the form of essay, discussion, fiction, artwork, bulleted lists, gifsets, vids, vlogs, comics, whatever! It is also fine to answer prompts on a different day than that which corresponds with the prompt (if you miss it, or it is simply easier for you). There is no right or wrong way to participate! The purpose of Katoberfest is to celebrate Admiral Cornwell, not create work or drama.
When sharing on social media, tag your posts #Katoberfest2024. We will reblog and retweet all tagged posts.
The AO3 Collection is available here.
Any questions, do not hesitate to ask!

Unwritten/Unpublished fics asks!
#9, 10, 13, 15, 16
😁
Thank you for asking!!
These are mostly from Lulu's travels across universes, which has not been published and sitting partially done in my WIP folder since this summer.
9. Is there anything in the fic you're not so excited about writing?
I have an partially completed fic where Lulu from Firefly universe jumps into basically post-season 4 canon. She's about 4. The fun part is that she's from Firefly, which is soft, and Katrina and Philippa are both alive, and together, and Michael and Laira are married. Laira's pregnant in that one, which let me have a very funny (to me) line in Quantum.
The part that will NOT be fun to write is when the universes intersect and there are two sets of people all in one scene. Really anything more than a handful of people talking is difficult, but two Michael's, two Laira's...nightmare to write.
Fun though! there's lots of fun little things, but uh...yikes for me and the pronouns and how to differentiate.
10. If unpublished, can you show a sneak peek of what you've written?
Rillak walks over by the window, still carrying Lulu in her arms. She turns so Lulu can see out of the viewport. "See the ships? The pretty one with sails is Bajoran." Lulu lifts her head, and Rillak turns closer. "Can I put you down? Admiral Vance knows how to get ice cream from his very important replicator and I bet if we ask nicely, he can get us some."
"We're not supposed to eat in the office."
Rillak crouches down, making herself even with Lulu's tearstained face. "The secret is, it's my office, and I can do what I want."
"And me?" Lulu smiles at that.
"And you, because you're my guest."
Walking over to Vance and offering her hand, Lulu stares up expectantly. "Let's get ice cream."
With Lulu occupied, Rillak eyes the wet patch on her suit and finds Michael's gaze. "I was coming out of a meeting and she came around the corner, sobbing, and threw herself at me. My security is a little embrassed, but it was fine."
Today is full of too many surprises. "She ran to you, ma'am?"
"She knows me. I don't know how, I've never—"
"Things are different in her universe, ma'am."
Rillak tilts her head, smiling a little. She raises her eye ridges. "Obviously, captain. How different?"
13. Is there any unwritten/unpublished fics you haven't mentioned you're gonna do?
Right now there's Quantum, Lulu's travels across universe, a fic where Laira and Michael are dating (but not for very long) and Laira gets sick so Michael goes to rescue her from herself. (and they talk about how it is all right to be comforted and looked after), and a fic where Michael gets pon farr, and her crew realizes if they ask Laira to have sex with her, it'll be less awkward for everyone.
I don't have anything else I've thought about writing enough to have a WIP for.
15. Do you have any unwritten scene that you think about a lot?
Philippa getting to see Michael (canon-y Michael). She loves Michael so much, getting to see any version of her is wonderful. This one she can make fun of because she's a captain, but she's lonely. Why is she so lonely? She could...Laira's right there are you haven't figured out how much of a crush you have on her?
The private goodbye where Philippa tells her to go get Laira. You're happy with her in my universe, like stupidly happy, and you don't have me here to tell you what to do, so, go. Will be fun, and heartfelt.
16. Is there any written scene that you think about a lot?
Laira and Michael trying to give Lulu a bath, which all the chaos that would entail. The two of them deciding that calling each other by their first names is okay. Lulu getting Laira's hair all wet and the two of them laughing while Michael realizes how lonely she is.
She is captain, and she has her crew but she doesn't have an imperial niece or an almost mother working for Federation security, and a step-mother who is an admiral (Kat Cornwell) or Laira, who she married about a year ago in this universe, and they're having a baby. (Laira's probably the same amount of pregnant in Quantum right now that she is in Lulu's home universe.)
Michael realizing she's lonely for this life she doesn't have. Laira admitting the same thing. Lulu is delightful chaos that she'd never allow herself to have.
(and maybe she should)
and they look at each other, all wet in their tank tops and jackets off and Lulu's falling asleep in her pajamas and...they're going to miss her.
and each other when she goes home because they're not even friends here.
(but maybe they...)
They're very very cute when they're being awkward together. The "I don't love you yet, but obviously I could" feeling.

A Lifetime Amongst Stars - Katrina Cornwell/Marie Batel
A/N: Day 4 for @trektober-challenge, general prompts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Marie Batel would have usually fought retirement, but since falling in love with Katrina ‘Kat’ Cornwell, she found the idea of retirement almost good. She would be free to continue a lifetime amongst the stars and she would be free, finally, to spend her life, the rest of it at the least, with Kat. Katrina, much as she had allowed Marie her own thoughts, had smiled proudly when Marie announced she intended to retire, intended to leave Starfleet in safe hands and live her life peacefully, what nobody saw was Marie sneaking away with Katrina for a quiet drink once the official work was done. They would be free by the end of the year.

Can I please hear about the La'An and Chris' mom lore for Youthful Exuberance?
~ enterprise-come-in 💠🖖🏻
Oooh yes, and thank you for asking, @enterprise-come-in! ❤️
Folks who haven’t read the story to the end, this isn’t the post for you. Spoilers incoming.
Seriously.
Last warning….
Okay, so we know La’an and Willa (Chris’ mom’s name taken from beta canon) meet at Chris and Una’s wedding when La’an is in prep school. Not long after that, La’an starts at Starfleet Academy. Willa, at this point, is established in Montana, has come to love Una (sort of), and enjoys having houseguests more than she admits to her son who waited a year to truly start his career so he could be close to Willa. And, of course, we all know from watching the show what La’an suffered before Una found her.
(You might be wondering about Willa’s Earth-typical mistrust of Augments and genetic engineering. But why, according to Willa, would La’an be considered an Augment when the young woman is in fact a descendant of an Augment — and therefore someone with a tough road that could be smoothed by some extra love?*)
*I find the canon status of La’an in terms of “benefitting” from genetic engineering to be confusing at best (as of two seasons in). That’s a dozen headcanons at least, but Willa sees La’an in Willa’s way.
So we have two people, both in need of family, both part of the same family through Chris and Una, both on the same side of the same continent on the same planet.
Which means that La’an stays over at Willa’s house sometimes, the first invitation extended for Federation Day dinner when La’an had nowhere to go and Willa had no one to feed. The invitations continue, gratefully accepted. Willa learns La’an’s favorite foods (because that’s how Pikes show love) and La’an volunteers to help with household tasks that Willa finds difficult (because beating back her own shyness in service of a task is how La’an shows love). Which means La’an upgrades Willa’s security system. Twice. Sometimes they read in separate chairs in front of the fireplace and La’an could swear she could reach out and feel the love in the air, tangible.
Chris and Una get separate letters from La’an and Willa, each pleased and worried she’s taking up too much of the other’s time, then both accepting reassurance that it’s good, it’s really good, that La’an has someone to fuss over her and Willa has someone to fuss over. Especially because Chris and Una try to be there for the important things, but are gone for sometimes years at a time.
La’an invites Willa to see First Contact Day fireworks and Willa’s laugh is full-bellied because Willa was going to invite La’an to the same fireworks display.
Remember the story’s scene in which La’an finally gets to see Una in the holding cell? I reworked that scene so many times because I kept trying to (and ultimately couldn’t) fit in dialogue of La’an saying to Willa in that quiet, under-her-breath way La’an can have: “I admire how you got into the holding cell.” And Willa replying in her usual encouraging, self-assured way: “With age comes wisdom, dear.”
And I know the story makes clear that La’an has separate close relationships with Una, Kat Cornwell, and Neera. In my mind, Willa is there, too — particularly for Family Weekend at Starfleet Academy and someone asks La’an who that feisty old lady is and La’an isn’t sure whether to say my grandmother-in-law or my great aunt-in-law or some variation on my older, nebulously related cousin. But categorizing is for security sweeps, not people, so La’an simply says: “Her name is Willa and she’s my family.”
