When Shiv first starts spending the night, she makes it a point to specify that it's just convenient

Karolina doesn't ask how it's convenient, considering her home adds at least 20 minutes to Shiv's commute into Waystar, but she'd rather chew off her own arm than willingly get into any kind of argument with Shiv Roy

If Karolina had to describe Shiv as anything, it would be competitive and voracious, more than a little selfish, too, but that's a given

What happens when two ambitious vers queens hook up is...well, what you'd expect, because Shiv is always out to prove she's in charge, and Karolina knows better, so more often than not, she lets her have that

Karolina can't complain too much about Shiv's ego when Shiv's so quick to bury her head between Karolina's legs if she ever happens to be up first

She's surprisingly eager to make Karolina come as many times as possible and Karolina has long wondered if Shiv is suppressing something

She can't imagine Tom knowing the first thing about aptly pleasuring a woman like Shiv, but she's not about to bring that up lest a genuine human connection ruins things

What does their bedroom look like?

Chic! I think really personal though too? I think it's important to both of them that their space feels like theirs, especially given they're used to the revolving doors of hotel rooms, corporate offices and the blandly lavish sprawl of the Roy family suites. Coming home to something that feels like theirs is a pivotal part of shedding what they can from their work and reclaiming whatever parts of themselves they have left.

I especially like the idea that Gerri has an eye for art, and totally randomly, that Karolina has a pet snake. I don't even know why with the latter, haha, I just like the thought of it.

5. Cleanliness habits (personal, workspace, etc.)

I think they're both pretty tidy generally, but Karolina can get messy at home. She just runs out of the time and energy to put her shit away sometimes, y'know, and before she moves into Gerri's townhouse / when she's living alone, it's just easier, y'know? It's not like her apartment's ever dirty (she does have a cleaner), but she'll leave blazers on her couch, kick off her shoes in the hall, forget to throw the box out for the new bulb in the snake tank.

Gerri gently encourages otherwise, but she's also not interested in being Karolina's mother, so when she moves in, she's happy to slide her housekeeper a little extra to take care of any extra work.

13. Sexual Orientation? And, regardless of own orientation, thoughts on sexual orientation in general?

I really love what J's said about Gerri and Baird genuinely loving each other, and I want that for Gerri! I love the thought that one of the reasons she's survived this industry and this business is that she did have a true partner for a really long time and that that partnership and strong grounding is what helped her to retain both her sense of self and to take no prisoners professionally. After all, I think while Gerri definitely has an attachment to the Roy's, I don't think she mistakes them for her family in the way that I think, say, Frank does.

This is to say that I think Gerri's a raging bisexual, haha. I think she definitely dated and slept with women while she was young, and since Baird's death, has gravitated more towards connections / relationships with women too.

Karolina though I think is absolutely a lesbian. I think she had a longterm relationship with a girlfriend, but that they split over the hours she had to put in at Waystar and that that really formed a bit of a barrier for Karolina in terms of dating again. It hurt, y'know, and it was easier just to hook up or have casual relationships than try and invest in something again only to have it go the same way.

Which is why this thing with Gerri feels different, feels good, because they both get it, they're both in it together, and somehow it creates this language just for them. It's something Gerri's sort of had before, but Karolina hasn't, and it opens up a part of her she didn't realise was ever closed.

Shiv definitely picks out something formfitting and/or low cut. Like a nice low cut dress, or a silk button down for Karolina (unbuttoned as far as Karolina will allow cause Shiv is a boobs girl). I think Karolina is a butt girl, and i think she noticed Shiv's ass before she noticed her (stunning) face. So, naturally, she picks something that enhances her um, features. Remember that dress with the low back? This one?

So does Karolina.

I think Karolina finds Shiv's ability to ramble on and on pretty charming. Like. If it's late at night and they've had a few glasses of wine and Karolina's kinda sleepy in that really nice, end of the day way, and Shiv's pacing around going on and on about whatever, running things by her, she's happy to just watch her walk and talk.

I think Shiv likes that Karolina talks with her hands (Shiv loves Karolina's hands okay). It's one of the first things she noticed about her and it can be very distracting.

They spend so much time just talking, and they're both, by nature, focused on communication; body language etcetera, that instinctively, the way they talk and their mannerisms were things they picked up on upon first meeting, and they became things they observed in one another as their attraction to each other grew and their relationship evolved.

22) Favorite canon moment of theirs?

Shiv doesn't know how to like, be a human who cares about another human and be sweet and attentive without cringing. BUT I do think, eventually, when she wants to make an effort, maybe when they've been apart for a while, or when she's with Tom but would rather be with Karolina, She'll have a flower arrangement sent to Karolina's home--just a "I'm thinking of you" gesture that isn't a huge declaration but makes her hands all clammy and makes her feel all weird for a while after. Until Karolina texts her a thank you and it then it feels kinda nice. (I might change my mind about this later idk we'll see)

Karolina shows her love by calling Shiv out on her shit when it's necessary. Shiv is very good at walking all over her partners if the situation calls for it, and not that she's done that to Karolina, but Karolina is very clear with things needing to be straightforward if they're going to do what they're doing, and unfortunately, Shiv often jumps straight to manipulation even in the most insignificant situations. Karolina's not afraid to tell Shiv when she's not jiving with anything. And it's uncomfortable for Shiv, oftentimes, her instinct is to fight back, but eventually, she gets it, and Shiv's not about to admit it, but her non-relationship with Karolina is the healthiest relationship she's ever had. Turns out some boundaries are good, actually.

1) Who is more protective?

hmm. This is one I've been thinking about for a minute, because I think...they don't feel they have to "protect" one another. I think the perception they have of each other is that that's not someone that needs watching over. That being said, when Shiv is 8 months pregnant and an unflattering tabloid picture makes her so upset that she doesn't get out of bed all day (she's struggling lately) and Karolina couldn't do anything about it if she wanted to because that's technically Tom's job, Karolina tracks down the photographer and has him blacklisted. It's fine. 'Paparazzi photographer' isn't a respectable way for anyone to make a living. And if she frames it as a freebie for Tom, does she actually even get anything out of it?

29) What is something small that they would randomly pick up for one another?

Okay, so, they get each other things that will make the other laugh. Like. Shiv once confessed to having a lifelong intense crush on Mariska Hargitay, and the deep guilt over fantasizing about her because Shiv only knows her from a copaganda show about violent sex crimes, and is that problematic? A few weeks later, she finds a tiny Olivia Benson bobblehead doll on her desk with a note in Karolina's neat handwriting that says, "Don't jerk off to it or anything." For days Shiv finds herself unable to not laugh the second she thinks about it.

Shiv returned the favor in the form of a miniature porcelain penis with an attached note that said, "So you can go fuck yourself." It made Karolina's morning.

I think they come from very different backgrounds--they're circumstances are just different in so many ways, but ultimately they're made of the same stuff: they're both driven, ambitious, hard as fuck. They know the game from very similar positions. They understand each other on another level. Their differences can sometimes feel big, but the pros outweigh the cons. I think Karolina grounds Shiv, and Shiv brings a spark to Karolina's life she didn't anticipate.

I agree with @harrietdyker that Shiv would push for it first and Karolina would actually initiate, BUT for the sake of variety, I'm going to suggest a scenario in which Shiv kisses Karolina first. Because I think there is a universe where they run into each other somewhere unexpected, somewhere very queer. Shiv sees this hot brunette from across the room and thinks, "WHO is THAT?" decides to approach her, except when Shiv gets close enough, she realizes it's her dad's head of PR--she decides to go ahead anyway. Karolina is horrified at first, considers maybe cutting her night short, but then Shiv buys her a drink, ropes her into conversation, and then maybe they're flirting a little, and Shiv keeps insisting, not so discreetly, that they could fuck in the bathroom and no one would ever know it. As the night goes on, and Shiv is more brazen in letting herself ogle Karolina's cleavage, and Karolina's having a harder time ignoring Shiv's nearness, the smell of her perfume, she excuses herself. She's not surprised when Shiv follows her into the bathroom. She's the least surprised when Shiv locks the door and then pushes Karolina against it before kissing her. So, okay. They're both like, serial killer level organized. They're both similar in that they like things how they like them. That being said, Karolina is more lax about certain things. Like, leaving her skincare products laid out on the sink when she spends the night at Gerri's instead of putting them away in the medicine cabinet where they belong. Or on the rare night they're around with enough time to make dinner themselves, Karolina leaves the dirty dishes where they land until after they've eaten, whereas Gerri cleans as she goes because she's not an animal TYVM. It's not deep enough to ever fight about though. Sometimes, when Karolina cooks, Gerri hovers in the kitchen and Karolina has to threaten her if she gets anywhere near her dirty dishes. So, one time, they're both working late, except Karolina finds Gerri in Roman's office because it's so late the office cleaning crew are there and they need to clean Gerri's office and she can't concentrate with the vacuum noise, and anyway, it's not that Karolina is a jealous person or anything and if she were to be the jealous type, Roman Roy is the last person on earth to make that happen.
