‼️TW SEIZURE‼️
-
Sun had emphasized how important it was for everyone to be present during family movie night. Eclipse understood that, honestly. How would it be family movie night without the whole family?
He supposed that they’d just have to find that out tonight.
If he had to watch Air Bud one more goddamn time, he might just kill everyone in the room. And, contrary to popular belief, he doesn’t exactly want to do that.
So, he’s resolved himself to hide on the platform that overlooks the theater, peering in between the bars of the banister. His rays are retracted, the vibrant colors of his clothes hidden by a blanket that he has pulled over his shoulders. Plus, added bonus, it keeps him warm. Today isn’t a great day physically for him, so the extra comfort is appreciated.
When the soft chatters of everyone else begins to filter up to him from below, signaling his family’s arrival, he backs away from the banister and scuttles towards the door hidden amongst the various boxes and crates of equipment. With one last glance over his shoulder, he hears Rays quietly ask where he is, with Blood Moon’s more firm voice not far behind.
He lingers, one hand on the doorknob.
“What if he’s gotten himself hurt again? What if he’s stuck somewhere? What if-“
“Blood, he’s fine. He’s probably just skipping out on movie night because we aren’t watching one of his cheesy horror films.” Moon’s sharp voice cuts in, a sigh leaving his mouth as Blood Moon continues to grumble behind him.
“Hurt?” Rays’ soft, yet mortified tone paints a picture of his expression in Eclipse’s head: eyes wide, blanket pulled tightly over his shoulders, shaking fingers curled into the fabric. It’s almost enough to make Eclipse reveal himself and come down. Almost.
“Yeah, he’s kinda a danger magnet.” Moon admits, moving towards the staircase that leads up to the platform Eclipse is hidden on.
“I doubt he’s in danger, though. He usually gets paranoid when he’s doing stupid shit, but he’s been pretty chill lately. Have you tried calling him?”
Blood Moon pauses. “No.”
“Try that, then get back to me.”
Moon takes the stairs two at a time. Eclipse knows he likes to show off, since he only does it in front of others.
Tsk. I could do that, too.
Eclipse opens the door, slipping into the hallway behind. In a slight panic, he tugs on the handle, pulling it shut behind him as quickly as possible. Not long after, he hears Moon’s footsteps outside.
With a sigh of relief, he turns away from the door, facing the rest of the corridor.
He lets out half of a yelp before slapping his hands over his mouth, glaring daggers at the tall figure before him as Moon’s movements pause outside.
Familiar red eyes stare down at Eclipse, albeit dimmer than he remembers. He slowly uncovers his mouth as Moon continues on with his task, presumably getting the movie started.
“What are you doing here?” Eclipse hisses under his breath.
Kill Code blinks. Slowly, carefully, as if uncertain what the action’s purpose is. Acting on autopilot. Eclipse is further disturbed.
“…hello?”
Kill Code shakes its head slightly, letting out a huff. “My hall. You know this.”
Eclipse leans back, crossing his arms over his chest, reassured by Kill Code’s more familiar behavior. “You can’t own a hallway. I needed somewhere to hide. Can you help, or not?”
Kill Code narrows his eyes, his claws twitching at his sides. It sways precariously on unsteady paws.
Eclipse fights the urge to move forwards and steady him.
“Follow.” It grunts, turning around and beginning to saunter back down the hall. Eclipse hesitates a few moments before trailing behind, keeping his footsteps light in comparison to Kill Code’s heavy stomping.
It’s small things that catch his attention. The stumbles, the pauses. The way each step seems to take all of Kill Code’s energy. So much effort for a single movement.
Then, Eclipse jumps again, startled by the ringing of a call coming in. Kill Code flinches, too, tail lashing through the air as it turns to growl at Eclipse.
Eclipse stumbles back, Blood Moon’s contact flashing across his sight. He declines the call in an annoyed(and maybe frightened) frenzy, trying to move away, a snarky quip ready on his tongue to dismiss himself back to his sons. But a hand with long, sharp claws closes around his wrist, pulling him closer instead.
“S-Stop, stop! Dad-“ Eclipse grits out, trying to pry himself free from Kill Code’s grasp. For a moment, Kill Code remains still, gaze hauntingly hollow. Before long, however, it releases Eclipse, robotically leaning away once more.
“What is wrong with you right now? You’ve been off since I got back here!” Eclipse snaps, holding his wrist close to his chest, as if afraid Kill Code will try to grab him again.
“Ringing. It’s irritating.” Kill Code says lowly. His eyes still seem…off.
“It was Blood Moon, probably wondering where I am! You were there when they had their big breakdown about me being gone and hurt, so you should know how they can be!”
Ridiculous as it is…
Eclipse lets out a heavy breath, trying to expel his paranoia. Kill Code stares down at him blankly. Unmoving.
“I apologize. I overreacted.” Kill Code says flatly. Eclipse relaxes slightly, though he remains vigilant.
“It’s…okay. Are you sure you’re alright?”
“Fine.”
With that, it turns back around and continues on towards the door to its room. Eclipse follows, less hesitant this time, hovering behind it nervously.
When it makes it to the door, it moves its hand up to grab the knob, but its hand misses and instead scrapes vainly against the rusted metal surface of the door itself. Eclipse watches quietly.
By the time it completes the process again with the same result, Eclipse has grown impatient. He reaches out and opens the door himself.
Kill Code grumbles to himself, but makes no comment, instead forcing himself inside with his son on his heels.
The door closes on its own behind them. Eclipse glances back at it, but doesn’t dwell long. “You…you’re sure?”
Kill Code pauses for but a moment. A slight hitch in its gait. It mutters something over its shoulder. Eclipse doesn’t catch the words.
“KC?” Eclipse steps closer. Kill Code’s arm spasms, and it growls, using its other arm to restrain it against its side.
“Stop prying, boy!” It snarls, still struggling against the twitching and writhing mess of its own arm.
“But-“
“But nothing!” It shouts, scaring the concern right out of Eclipse as the scarred animatronic doubles back on himself, eyes widening in fear. Kill Code turns to face him, tail whipping back and forth, back and forth, back and forth - advancing on Eclipse like a prowling tiger sizing up its next meal.
“Okay, okay, I-I’ll stop-!” Eclipse stumbles backwards, raising a hand to shield himself as his father looms over him, draping him in its morbid shadow.
“You never learn to shut up, do you?” Its gleaming red eyes pierce him like bullets, digging into him ruthlessly. “You always pay, pay all these prices and- consider, possibly, that you’ve earned some-“ It turns away again, bringing a hand up to the damaged half of its face, the remaining visible eye now wild with conflicting emotions.
“What? What are you talking about?” Eclipse asks incredulously, feeling that familiar warmth spread out from his chest, pure power running through his systems. His bad eye flickers to life, a dim light cast as an iris.
“They’re your children! They should be worried! You act as if their concern is a nuisance to you, such a disgraceful outlook-“ Kill Code continues to rant, the deranged expression on its face only worsening with each word.
“I never said that!” Eclipse retorts, his arm coming back down, aligned with his chest instead of his head. An offensive position, rather than defensive.
“Shut your mouth!” In the blink of an eye, Kill Code is bearing down on him again, claws reaching, shadow looming, face set in a vicious snarl. Eclipse’s jaw snaps shut with an audible click.
His confidence leaves much quicker than it came.
“I taught you how to care, I taught you how to be appreciative, but you act as if Blood Moon’s worry bores you - burdens you. You act as if being in the presence of the others is a damn chore, when all they’ve done is care for you. You’d be dead without them!” Then, it stops, speaking in a softer, more subdued tone than before. “You’d be dead without me, but you left years ago.”
Eclipse listens in silence up until the last few words, his anger and pride flaring before his self-preservation can rein them in.
“You sentenced me to death before you saved me from it.”
Kill Code’s entire demeanor changes. His hands retract, his body recoils, tense and shocked as if physically struck by Eclipse’s words.
“I…I never meant to…” It’s words are distant, almost confused, or lost. Its expression twists into borderline despair, snarl falling into a pained grimace.
Pricks of oil gather in Kill Code’s eyes, complete and utter shock hitting Eclipse with the force of twelve fighter jets.
Okay, so…that’s still a sore spot. Noted.
“KC….I….” Eclipse starts, fidgeting nervously with his claws. It is then that he notices Kill Code sway, staggering backwards. “KC?”
Eclipse gets closer, quickly grabbing his father’s arm, slowly lowering him to sit on the cold cement floor below. He feels the mechanisms in the older animatronic’s arm stiffening uncontrollably beneath his sleeve and plating, gears grinding, turning against themselves.
“I-I don’t know what to do, tell me what to do, how to save you-“
Memories hit him harder than he thought they would. It’s his turn to overreact, it seems, because surely his father isn’t dying - come on, he’s fine! He said it himself!
Kill Code’s eyes remain vacant, unfocused and dim. The only thing keeping him upright is Eclipse’s hold on his arm.
Oil. Oil everywhere. Covering his hands, coating his chest, leaking between his fingers as he struggles to connect the tubes back to the pump- god, please, PLEASE no, he couldn’t- couldn’t do this-
“Dad?” Eclipse can’t keep the tremble from his voice. It stays. His hands, they stay, shaking. Clutching at Kill Code’s arm, panic setting in faster than he ever thought possible.
There’s this ticking noise from behind Kill Code’s remaining faceplate, the visible wires on the other half sparking wildly. His eyes flicker a few times, then go dark.
He can barely see through the tears. It’s hard to put everything back together with hands that shake this badly. But he has to try. He has to. What would he do on his own? How would he survive? It’s just been the two of them for so long. He can’t do this on his own.
Right?
“DAD!” Eclipse shouts as his father goes limp for only a moment, spasms and convulsions seizing him in the next. He is forced to release him and back off, his trembling hands still hovering in mid-air in front of him as if poised to touch or hold or - or something other than just watch.
Tears gather in his eyes, a nauseating amount of panic crawling up his throat. Getting any closer would get them both hurt. But…but what…what is going on??
Is he dying again?
The thought forces a choked sob out of his mouth, trembling hands moving back to wrap around himself. His rays shrink in, hiding behind his faceplate, just as he wishes to run and hide somewhere else, as well.
He should’ve just watched the damn movie. Should’ve sat down with his family and rolled his eye at all the lame jokes, only actually uttering a laugh when Blood Moon made fun of the ironic moments.
But no. No, he had to cause problems.
He had to do it alone now. He was gone. His father’s tubes were too torn, his intake bent beyond repair. His pump had choked up on all the oil, so much of it covering Eclipse that he knows it would never be enough to keep Kill Code running, even if he had managed to keep him awake somehow.
So much oil. So much.
Eclipse tries to wrack his processor for any clue as to what is going on. System error? No, those never get this bad. Electric current disruption? No, that would just force a restart. Seizure? No, those are for-
Everything stops. His shaking, his crying, his panic. Seizure. This is a seizure.
Finally, he manages to pull himself out of his daze. He moves forwards, slipping one hand under his father’s back, shifting him onto his side. He pays no mind to his flailing limbs, even as a claw tears his collar and nicks his neck beneath. It’s not Kill Code’s fault.
Eclipse keeps one hand on his father’s shoulder once he is safely on his side, oil dribbling out of his mouth and onto the floor beneath. Even as he continues to seize, Eclipse remains in place, making sure he stays put and as safe as possible.
Logic still tries to press back against his conclusion. Robots can’t have seizures. It makes no sense. The very structure of a seizure relies on the brain and the electrical impulses that reside within. Sure, animatronics have a processor, which is the equivalent of a brain - but the cables have full control over the electrical current that is transferred to each system. That pre-set amount can’t be changed, and this has never happened before, so how-
It’s because he’s dying. Again. Stop trying to deny it, you know what’s happening.
Those damned tears sting at his eyes again, but he tries to hold them back.
Just like last time, you can’t do anything. You can’t save him, you can’t save yourself, you can’t save anyone. You can only cause harm.
It’s no use. The tears drip down his face no matter how hard he tries, a silent sob leaving his mouth. His hands start shaking again.
Then, Kill Code’s seizing begins to slow. It eases into only the occasional spasm or jerk - much more manageable, as far as Eclipse is concerned. Less panic-inducing.
Much to his relief, he feels the heavy rise and fall of his father’s chest as he vents to compensate for the heat he gathered during his…whatever that was.
All self-control leaves him in an instant. He curls up against Kill Code, sobbing brokenly into his shoulder for the first time in decades. His claws curl into his tattered shirt, slowly falling into screams of despair.
The tears blur everything together. Past, present, life, death. He’s trembling and screaming and sobbing so much that he can’t tell up from down. Can’t tell if Kill Code is still breathing beneath him. Can’t feel anything other than grief.
But he’s not dead. You know he’s dead. He’s not. He’s breathing. Is he? Yes. You’re imagining it. No. He’s alive. He’s dead. He’s alive. He’s dead. He’s alive. He’s dead. He’s alive. He’s dead.
He’s dead.
He’s dead.
He’s dead.
He’s-
“Eclipse?”
His eye sharpens immediately, focusing on Kill Code’s bleary expression. The tears stop like flipping a switch. He tries to focus on making sure his father’s alright.
“Yeah? You - um - you okay?” Eclipse stammers, trying his hardest to get and keep his shit together.
He’s dead.
He’s dead.
He’s dead.
Kill Code shifts, trying to push himself into a sitting position. Eclipse’s hands, still trembling, jolt forwards to gently urge him to lay back down.
“No. You need more time.” He insists, earning a shaky sigh from his father.
“I’m alright, Eclipse. I’m sorry you had to witness that.” Kill Code rasps in response, and it takes everything within Eclipse to push down the childish urge to curl into his father’s chest and hug him tight.
“No, no. It’s - it’s okay. Not your fault.” He knows his tone is distant. He’s not really here. Is he?
He’s dead.
He’s dead.
He’s dead.
“Eclipse, look at me.”
“I am.”
“My eyes, you twit.”
Eclipse slowly lifts his gaze until it is locked with Kill Code’s, allowing his father to carefully sit up this time around without making an effort to push him back down.
“What’s going on in that head of yours, hm?” It reaches out one hand to gently cup his son’s face, a frown crossing his own as he witnesses tears gather in the corners of his eyes.
“N-N…um…” Eclipse stammers, voice shaking. “Nothing. Nothing important.”
He’s dead.
I’m looking at him.
What remains of him, you fool.
Maybe it’s the exhaustion in Kill Code’s eyes, maybe it’s the frightening way his mind fights with itself like a snake eating its own tail, but he can’t hold it in anymore. A sob wrenches itself from his chest, and he launches himself into his father’s arms.
He shuts his eyes tightly and buries himself into Kill Code’s chest, letting the tears and torment out into his father’s clothes.
And, no matter how exhausted and dizzy Kill Code is, he sits and he holds his son while he breaks in his arms. He waits and he soothes, allowing the desperate claws to curl into the back of his shirt, clutching at him as if he’s already gone.
Because, in Eclipse’s mind…he quite possibly is.

"But this Not-Sensei soulmate guy could be anybody," Naruto whines.
Sasuke narrows his eyes. "No. He tried to act like Kakashi, use his techniques. He must be familiar with him already..."
"They could be childhood friends!" Sakura gasps.
"Sensei has friends?" Naruto asks, squinting at Obito.
"Or he's a stalker." Sasuke grips the kunai he still hasn't put away.
"I'm not a stalker," Obito lies, pushing away the kunai edging towards him.

A Question of Lust (a question of trust)  by  fangirlandiknowit
The time has come for Naruto to choose a husband – surely, out of twenty-four men from twelve different villages, he’ll be able to find the love of his life?
Unfortunately for him, the love of his life is less enthusiastic about the whole thing.
(Good thing neither of them has any common sense.)

Above him, Sasuke leans over the edge of the pier to watch. Naruto hears him laugh and even with his face draped in shadow, he can imagine Sasuke’s cheshire grin, eyes crinkling with mirth.
He feels Sasuke smiling at him. Naruto would pluck every star from the heavens to keep that feeling.

     Kizuna Hikari    by  YoungAndOverIntelligent
The only reason Sasuke keeps coming back to Konoha is because of that mattress. The bed is his only respite. And perhaps the dumbass who owns said bed might be worth it, too.
Or, another canon divergence 699 that showers Sasuke with too much (deserved) love and attention that we all need for these unprecedented times.

The sun within me  by  fangirlandiknowit
Just before the one year anniversary of the 4th shinobi war, a teleportation accident sends Naruto and Sasuke into a different dimension. This other version of Konoha is different from their own – not in the least because everyone assumes they’re a couple. As the question of why they’re there and how they’ll get home remains a mystery, they both find themselves adjusting to this new reality. And maybe, just maybe, this relationship thing isn’t such a bad idea…

At first, Shinki almost thought this was a kidnapping attempt, the kind of thing Father warns him about in grave tones, an unavoidable risk of being the son of the Kazekage. He would have been nervous, if not for the way Father had hugged this man at the door, so tight it was almost fierce. Then he’d nodded at Shinki with a look that Shinki knew meant, Be polite and keep bloodshed to a minimum.
Or, Shinki doesn't know who his new babysitter is or why his father didn't bother to introduce them. At least he's getting a good training session out of it.

There is nothing now that Gaara, the man, can do to heal the wounds caused by Gaara, the monster. He cannot bring murdered villagers back from the dead. He cannot un-traumatize the children he terrorized in his youth. He cannot even repair the desert ecosystem that he disrupted during his massive, sand-filled rages. All he can do is be a safe harbor - level, and steady, and reliable as the sunrise - for his village, for his family, and for his friends.

All war is fratricide, and there is therefore an infinite chain of blame that winds its circuitous route back and forth across the path and under the feet of every people and every nation." -Louis de Bernières
The war is over. Tobirama ended it when he put his sword through Izuna's center mass.  But where war had united the Senju behind their leader, peace threatened to tear them apart. And who better for the warmongers to look to as a leader than the greatest killer of Uchiha they had ever seen?
There were only two problems with that plan. One, Tobirama would never, ever, betray his elder brother.
Two, he may or may not have a surprisingly not dead Uchiha Izuna in a coma in his guest room, hiding the secret of resurrection that Tobirama needs with everything he is.
Now if only he would wake.

Explicit.
Caught up in the slow, incredibly frustrating, exhausting and impossible task of helping to build a village where his clan and his clan's traditional enemies can live together, Tobirama one day stumbles upon a baby. And keeps her.
No one knows how to deal with this, least of all Madara.
This fic is an exploration of power dynamics and non-verbal consent as well as all the levels in which a shinobi, canonically a person who identifies themselves as a "tool", can can tie themselves into knots in the face of their own wants and desires. Rape warning added because the consent issues are strong enough that some readers expressed discomfort. Please read with caution!

Within the Shinigami’s stomach is hell; this much is known even to mere mortals.
Those who are doomed to reside there are said to be condemned to agony, to be pitted against their victims for all time, or until some enterprising soul bearing agendas unknown saw fit to wear the Shinigami’s Mask and free them. A task that first requires knowledge of any of these forbidden topics beyond fear and rumors.
Knowing this intellectually offered not even the slightest buffer to the reality.

What is the world coming to when goddamn aliens give me sympathetic looks about paperwork? It was boggling. Infuriating. Maybe, a smidge validating. Nick Fury resisted the urge to swear and check over his shoulder in case Murphy was lurking.
Not that this Senju Tobirama was their typical extraterrestrial, oh no, guy had to come from a separate dimension in addition to being from a different planet.

🍸 Piña Colada
I know you know I'm creepy obsessed with this series. It still makes me laugh when you told me it wouldn't be my style since I'm just a pretty flower. But here I am, asking you so many questions and wanting to know more.
As I Sleep Questions:
• Who among Angel and Bucky does Rumlow enjoy crushing the most?
• Can Angel skin Rumlow alive? I always think of this line: “you’d become dependent on the sense of security he gave you, and you preferred his attention over being”
That would be my dream for Angel to do Rumlow, to be the one to finish him off.
• Would you rather save Bucky or Angel?
• What is your favorite scene that you wrote that makes your cry?
• How long does your process take to write one beautiful chapter of this series?
• Is Angel ever going to be able to wear a dress or anything white?
• Will she become a dark angel because she will try to run away from her feelings?
• There is going to be a real dance scene between Bucky and Angel?
• I know you said I am Angel, but in the alternate universe, if Bucky dies, would I still be able to marry her?
One fresh Piña Colada coming right up! 🍸
Okay first off, I just wanted to say this ask made me emotional. To see someone engage with my work like this, it’s beautiful and I’m in awe that my words evoked this much thought.
I defs thought this series wouldn't be your jam at first, but how wrong I was! Defs taught me to not make assumptions hehe.
I’m going to put my answers under the cut as they’re long and also full of spoilers!
Who among Angel and Bucky does Rumlow enjoy crushing the most? At first Rumlow enjoyed toying with the Soldier the most. But as he realised the hold that Angel had over the Soldier it became much more enjoyable to crush her, as in doing so it also has an effect on the Soldier.
Plus, he always knew that he had no ownership over the Soldier. But he was there when Angel transformed, he was there from the start. So, he has more of a connection to her. He feels a sense of ownership with her that he doesn’t with the Soldier.
And those years where it was just him and Angel, he wasn't always horrible to her. Rumlow wouldn't admit it, but he cares for her in the way someone cares for their prized posession. Losing Hydra scared Rumlow, but the idea of losing control of Angel scares him more. It's not love. But a cruel fixation.
Can Angel skin Rumlow alive? I always think of this line: “you’d become dependent on the sense of security he gave you, and you preferred his attention over being” That would be my dream for Angel to do Rumlow, to be the one to finish him off. Hehehehe we’ll just have to see what happens with our good friend Rumlow! Don't worry, karma will be a bitch.
Would you rather save Bucky or Angel? Interesting question. They're both vicimtised heavily, so it's hard to find the line where I would chose one over the other. In a way, it's better for Bucky because he doesn't remember once wiped, so the horrors are temporarily gone. Whereas Angel has to face everything without repireve. So I'd say save Angel first.
What is your favorite scene that you wrote that makes your cry? My favourite scene is probably in Chapter 5, when the Soldier and Angel are in the Russian mountains. She almost sacrifices herself for him, and they're able to share a genuine moment.
As you looked at him, so many unsaid words passed between the both of you. You couldn’t help the dread that spread through you. “They’re going to wipe you again. You’ll forget me,” you whispered, watching as he looked at you with a newfound endearment. Love. “I’ll protect you, I promise.” The Asset forgot his promise two days later when he was put back in the chair.
Little does the Soldier know how much that promise will set in stone events further on.
How long does your process take to write one beautiful chapter of this series? The chapters are kinda lengthy, between 4k-7k words, so normally about a week. Working full time makes it harder, but I can normally get it done in a few sittings. Then I like to let it settle before editing it so I can look at it with a fresh look.
Is Angel ever going to be able to wear a dress or anything white? Not at first. But it's something her therapist will defs help her work towards being able to do. Bucky telling her she's beautiful at any chance he gets is also a great motivator.
Will she become a dark angel because she will try to run away from her feelings? She won't, no. After the confrontation with Bucky she is now having to face her feelings about it all. But that didn't quell any of her love and care for Bucky, so having him and the Avengers there will stop her from going dark, as tempting as it is.
There is going to be a real dance scene between Bucky and Angel? I may have a few ideas :3 We're a few chapters off that though.
I know you said I am Angel, but in the alternate universe, if Bucky dies, would I still be able to marry her? Hahaha, sure thing! In an AU you can marry her and help her heal from the horrors of Hydra!

It’s really sad when Red Rank Killers are so bad that they have to face camp just to get a Kill. If you do this, don’t go messaging the Survivors for not bothering to get the save because - as a result of your own actions - you got next to no points. You chose to stand in place for 2 mins while a team of 3 ppl with the help of Prove Thyself and Kindred, finished the last 3 Gens.
I refuse to give a tunneling Killer an easier time. I refuse to not make a fool of them. I will not pity you for getting run around when you made the choice to focus one person the whole match. Whatever happens is what you’ve got coming to you. So if all 5 Gens get done in 2 minutes because you wouldn’t even take a second to hit someone in the Gens you pass mid-Chase, that’s on you.
Got a Rank 1 Huntress who sucked. Not only did she need NO-ED to get a down, but she face-camped the person on the Hook, despite having an Ebony Mori. And then demanded to know why everyone just killed themselves on the Hook, thereby denying her a precious Mori that was apparently a big loss for her. It was her only Mori Offering and us denying her the Kill was ‘rude’.
So we swf Sabo “B” Squad where we all had pimped out Toolboxes, Breakdown, Breakout, Boil Over, and Borrowed Time just in case. The four Bs. It was so beautiful, holy shit! We just picked the corner furthest from the Basement and if getting Chased, would go over there. Getting Hooked on each of the Hooks nearest that corner, and then them being broken for 3 minutes giving us time to wiggle out as the Killer would have to walk toward Hooks much further away! XD
Killer: ur toxic! Me: got hatch after u tunneled me fr all 5 Gens is toxic? Killer: u shouldn’t teabag over hatch! Me: so u can B toxic but I can’t? Killer: Tunneling is a real strat the devs say so! get gud! Me: Says the dude who couldn’t get even 1 Kill after tunneling. *suddenly I’m blocked*
So I full on Blendetted for a match on the saloon map and Legion was dumb enough to look away after downing me, to go a few meters over and break a pallet I stunned him with. Big mistake. I crawled away and blended into the bushes perfectly, so he’s circling this small corner of the map, looking for me in the bushes, and I’m steadily crawling through the bushes, away from that corner, and once far enough away, I use Unbreakable to get myself off the ground. I had on iron Will, so I made no sound as I Healed myself up. In that time, 4 Gens popped and Legion finally realizes he should gtfo before the last Gen gets finished! We all still Escaped!
Huntress tunneled me after I was unHooked because I led her on a 3 Gen Chase and she was salty. However, the idiot didn’t pay attention and got trapped in the hole on the side of those hills. So I got to wiggle off and then I teabagged her. And since she was out of Iridescent Hatchets to throw, she had nothing to do but watch us all Heal up in front of her. The twat rage-quit before everyone was Healed up and sent me this long, swear-riddled message about how I ‘need to learn how to have fun’ and need to ‘get out of my mom’s basement’. Like, bitch, I had fun making fun of the instant karma you got for being a tunneling piece of shit, and you’re out here dedicating a lot of time and effort to using your controller to send insults to people on PS4, over a video game. Like I’m not going to report you using the N-word? I was in another match when the long messages came through, that’s how pathetic this twit was. Paragraphs all typed out with a PS4 controller. The obsession.
Got another Huntress(the Huntresses today are terrible) who needed NO-ED and slugged the last 2 ppl & stood over us, nodding like she was good. We waited out the entire Engame Collapse just to piss her off since she wouldn’t pick anyone up. She sends me this salty message about how I ‘should have taken the L and DC’d’. She got the least amount of points(4K+) cuz 2 ppl Escaped & she refused to Hook the last 2. Meaning she got no Hooks all match. & somehow this is my fault because she chose to play like a fucking idiot.
If anyone’s wondering why I tend to be chosen for hate messages, I’ve noticed it’s only in matches where I came out with the most pts out of the Survivors. I’m assuming that’s the reason since it’s the only other common denominator between all the hate messages I get. Usually an accusation of being in a swf group is added in there as well.
Ran into the same swf group 3 matches in a row! First match only 2 of us got out. Second match 3 of us, and the last match we got the 4-man Escape!
I’ve come to the conclusion that Pyramid Head is the worst Killer in terms of getting value out of him since I’ve never faced a single one who could actually play him without his 3 Perks. If Pyramid Head if so dependent on his own perks, that’s not good. Or maybe, players are so dependent on his Perks and simply can’t play him for shit. It’s so easy to outplay them and it shouldn’t be. I see a PH and I roll my eyes because I know what Perks are coming, which removes the scare factor and makes matches against him boring af.
And with the Blight coming out tomorrow, I do have concerns over people overusing his Perks.
So many fucking Legions! IstG, Legion was the most hated Killer like a year ago, so why does everyone and their brother want to be Legion these days?
Killer who apparently doesn’t know how Franklin’s Demise works, bragging after the game about making me ‘lose my Key’ and calling me a bad Survivor for needing it. “Bruh, FD only works w basic attacks. I still got the Key fr the challenge.” He never replied. Probably cuz he made himself look like a dumbass.
I’ve gotten 3 Hatch Escapes today! Not just me alone either. I always managed to get someone else out with me!
Only reason I like the Meat Plant is because Claudette blends in so well in this room on the bottom floor.

To say the week following meeting Bucky was a disaster would be an understatement. I don't know if the rejection from him put me in a funk or it was all my bad karma finally coming after me.
The shelter was chaos after someone abandoned a very pregnant lab mix. She was malnourished completely filthy, covered in dirt and sores. How she was able to not lose her babies with her health the way it was is beyond me. The cutie ended up giving birth to eight, yes EIGHT! Puppies the day after being left with us. Sadly, we were already struggling with the lack of space and resources before her and now we got 9 new bodies to take care of. On top of that, the adoption event I had been working on for the end of the month, which is two weeks away, our location fell through. Now I need to find a new place last minute, which is a struggle within itself, but it needs to allow all of our adoptable pets, which is close to a hundred, into the location. Talk about mission freaking impossible.
The cherry on top of my week from hell, my car was starting to act up and drive funky. I know nothing about cars and my budget is not going to allow me to take it into a repair shop, just to have them screw me over for the labor.
On the bright side, I had brand new puppies to play with and we were experiencing heavy-duty thunderstorms in the area, which is my calming kind of weather. Thunder did something to me, and no Thor isn't my favorite avenger. Hawkeye was the swoon-worthy man hunk, in an unrealistic way. No way would I ever meet or be up to standards for an avenger.
I had just gotten to the stoplight a block away from the diner when a crash that I had thought was just a strong wave of thunder hit my ears. But then the force of the car behind me actually hit me, followed by the force of the airbag. I coughed on the dust produced from the release of the airbags. I tried working through the buzz in my head and ears, checking on the car behind me.
She was a young girl, probably still in high school. Her hands were on her head and she stared down in shock at her steering wheel. As if it's the one that caused her car to hit mine and sandwich me into the car in front of me. I looked ahead at the truck I had played deadly bumper cars with to see the owner leaving his vehicle to look at the damage.
I decided I needed to get out in the rain and start solving this new problem that was now dropped into my lap. Taking my keys out of the ignition and opening my door.
I walked towards the guy that was looking at the damage done to his bumper asking if he was alright.
"Yeah, I'm good and it looks like my trucks fine. But my hitch mangled your car. You good?" He met my eyes and looked over my body for any injury as sirens could be heard approaching from afar.
I looked back towards the girl that had caused the accident to see her hands covering her face, body shaking with sobs.
I met the man's face, taking in his suit and tie and nodded, "Yeah I'm good. I'm going to go check on her though. Will you talk to the cops when they get here and I'll join you once I get her settled down?" I could feel the rain soaking my clothes and immediately felt bad for this man's nice clothes getting ruined in this rain. He furrowed his brows as he looked back at her before nodding and walking to go around the front of his truck to the sidewalk.
I made my way towards the girl, deciding I should get out of the way of oncoming traffic and swung around the back of her car before tapping on the passenger window. She brought her head up from her hands, meeting my eyes with a look of panic. She had short blonde hair styled in a bob, and her features reminded me of the fairy stickers I had as a kid.
I gave her a comforting smile and little wave before pointing at her door and shouting over the metal and rain, "Can I come in?"
She turned her head away from me and pressed down on a button that produced a soft click. I quickly ducked into her car and out of the rain, turning my body to face her. She was letting out soft whimpers to the sobs she was holding in and wiped at the continuous flow of tears.
She kept her face downturned as she murmured a soft, "I'm so sorry, I wasn't paying attention. I was trying to change the station and all of a sudden you were there and I hit you. I'm sorry are you okay?" She looked over at me and chocked on a mix of air and a sob.
"Everyone is okay." I pointed towards her keys, "Can I shut your engine off?" I slowly extended my hand towards her keys, waiting for a reply. She gave me a small nod and it was all I needed to take the keys out and gently place them in her hand.
"Are you okay, sweetie?" I brought a comforting hand to her shoulder. I wasn't the best at comfort but Olivia had done the same to me on my bad days and it usually helped sooth something.
She nodded and hickuped on a sob again.
"We don't need to worry about calling the cops, they're already here," I stated pointing ahead at the truck owner talking with some cops with his arms folded and head bobbing as an officer spoke, "Do you need me to call anyone for you?" I looked over at her as she wrapped an arm around herself.
I watched as she tried to catch her breath. I knew the feeling and signs that came with panic attacks and saw her teetering on that edge just before the free fall of numbing limbs and loud thoughts.
"I need you to do me a favor." I said softly as she turned towards my voice, "I want you to just take some deep breaths with me. Is that okay?" I asked and I turned my body completely towards her. She nodded and I gave her a small smile. "Okay, deep breath in," I exaggerate my inhale for her to follow. I counted to three to myself before telling her to slowly exhale. We did that a few times before she started to relax.
"What's your name?" I asked having her jade eyes meet mine.
"Ella." It was the first smile I had gotten from her the whole 10 minutes I had been in her car.
I smiled back at her, "Well Ella, it's a pleasure to meet you. I'm going to go out there and help get things sorted out, you take your time joining us. Okay?" I brought my hand to the door handle, trying to prepare myself for the unwanted cold shower I was about to receive.
Before I was able to fully open the door, the pressure on my arm stopped me. I looked at the source to see Ella gently holding my arm, I met her gaze.
"Thank you." She gave me a reserved smile and my arm a final squeeze before she grabbed her phone and started dialing a number.
I hoped out of her car and ran towards the cops and the truck owner, hoping this wouldn't take too long to get resolved and cleaned up.
Two hours. It took two hours for us to get our statements put in, to get mine and Ella's cars towed and for the EMT to okay me as not needing to be rushed to the hospital or dying.
It was nearing 8:30 and there was no way I was missing out on my pie after the week and day I've had.
After walking the final block to the diner, I was sore and more than ready to sit down. The door chimed, announcing my arrival and was immediately pulled into a bone-crushing hug from Olivia. Before she pulled me away at arm's length, "Where in god's name have you been and why are you soaking wet?" She gave my arm a gentle smack before turning me in her arms and studying me.
"I got in a car accident on my way here. My car is for sure totaled, so that's cool." I replied sarcastically while bringing a hand to rub the back of my neck, hoping to release some of the tension held there.
"A car crash?!" Olivia screeched, "Are you okay? Why aren't you at a hospital?" She grabbed my face and started turning it about searching for any signs of damage that wasn't there.
I softly pulled her hands off my face, "Liv, I'm fine, everyone was okay and an EMT already checked me and said I was fine." I brought her hands down between us before letting them go. "He just said I'll be pretty sore tomorrow because of the jarring of the crash."
"Hot chocolate with your pie today?" Olivia asked. She knew I preferred hot cocoa on bad days and could always tell when those days occurred without me ever saying anything. Like the days I would come in after saying my final goodbye to one of my furry little buckets of sunshine, Or the time's animals didn't make it in the shelter or the time I tried to go on a date and the guy stood me up. Today was a hot cocoa kind of day.
I met her eyes and gave her an appreciative smile, "Yes please, I think I might get some food today."
"I'm grabbing you a towel too. I bet you're completely frozen!" Olivia went to turn away before she stopped herself and gave me a Cheshire cat grin, "I forgot, someone, is waiting for you in your booth." I gave her a confused look and she returned it with a wink before smirking and walking away to the kitchen.
I turned to make my way to the booth with a curiosity of who it could be that would wait for me. My body completely froze when my eyes met Bucky's.
He had his hands clasped atop the table, his hair was down today and brushed at his shoulders. The grey long sleeve flannel did nothing to hide his muscles that he had.
He watched me study him for a moment before standing up with his jacket as he approached me. He had the expression of a kicked puppy. I tried to get my body to move or get myself to speak, to do anything really, but I was stuck in place as he came up to me. I had genuinely thought I would never see him again, but here he was. Looking more handsome than I remembered.
When he finally stood less than 2 feet from me, he met my eyes and opened his mouth to speak but nothing came out. He only furrowed his brows as he studied me. Clearing his throat and glancing down at the jacket in his hands, he brought it up and opened it for me to put on. "Here, you look pretty cold." He glanced back up at me with a pleading expression.
My eyes bounced between him and the offered fabric before finally meeting Bucky's. "I don't want to soak your jacket, Bucky. Thank you though." His face crumbled into a look of desperation.
"Doll, please. I don't mind." When he couldn't see a change in my demeanor he shifted slightly on his feet before starting again, "please for my peace of mind, use my jacket and come sit with me. I'd really like to talk to you." His focus went down to his shoes, jacket still held open. I heard my name softly leave his lips before he looked up at me again.
"We were worried sick about you." He searched my face before meeting my eyes. "I thought you were just avoiding me at first, but after Liv told me you weren't that kind of person and nothing would keep you from your pie, me included. She started getting really worried, Doll. Which made me worried something pretty bad had to of happened and-" I stopped his talking by starting to move my arms into his, still extended, jacket.
His eyes met mine as he helped me get my left arm situated and my hair pulled out from beneath the hood. I welcomed the warmth and comforting smell that could only be Bucky as I wrapped the jacket tighter around myself. I kept my focus on him as I made my way towards the booth, as a silent invitation.
We both sat in the same spots as last week. Just as we finished silently getting settled, Olivia set my hot cocoa down in front of me along with a clean dish towel.
"Are you sure you shouldn't have gone to a doctor?" Olivia looked down at me, the same look of concern my mother used to give me when I'd excitedly tell her about a tree I climbed without permission when I was a kid.
"Yes!" I rolled my eyes at her concern, "The guy who checked me out said I was lucky I didn't have anything wrong with my airbags going off and to just expect a stiff neck and sore muscles in the morning."
"Your airbags went off?" Olivia gave me a look of shock, rage, and concern.
"I'm fine! Liv, I promise." She looked from me over to Bucky, as they seemed to have a silent conversation about if they were going to believe me or not. "Guys!" I brought their focus back to me, "I'm honestly fine. Sore? Yes. Stressed? Absolutely! If I sporadically start developing some physical issues, I'll let you dramatically rush me to the E.R. But for now, I just really want some of your warm chili." I gave Liv a pleading look to drop the subject and help me out with some comfort food.
"Sour cream and cheese on top?" She asked while still searching my face.
"You read my mind. Thank you, Liv. I appreciate you." I softly spoke while fighting the urge to start massaging the headache that was starting to get more intense. For all I knew that would be all they needed to validate a trip to the doctor.
Olivia moved herself to stand beside me, facing Bucky and asking him if he wanted anything while rubbing her hand in soothing circles on my upper back.
"Another burger sounds perfect and a refill if you don't find." He asked while looking towards his almost empty glass I hadn't noticed when we sat down.
"Of course, baby. No worries." She gave my back two gentle pats before walking away.
I grabbed the cloth from the table to start trying to help absorb some of the moisture in my hair as Bucky was reaching into his pockets, pulling out a very expensive looking iPhone.
I looked down at the phone, eyes wide, before glaring up at him. "I thought you said you didn't have a phone." Lips pursed as I used to towel to ring out my hair.
He let out an uncomfortable laugh, "I didn't at the time. I refused to even have one because I didn't think I'd ever need one. Turns out I was wrong. Watching you drive away without knowing if I'd be able to talk to ya again. Plus knowing it was the part of why you were upset with me helped change my mind too." He looked down at the phone with guilt evident on his face, "I got this thing the next day and hoped that I hadn't run you off from this diner so I could see you again." His eyes met mine before sliding the phone towards me.
"I'm going to need your help with this thing. It's the equivalent to a space ship to me," He smiled to himself like he shared a private joke I wasn't in on, "I tried asking my pal Steve for help but he's just as clueless as I am and Tony said this thing was the only thing I could get." He shook his head and laughed as he waited for me to take the phone.
I gave him a tight-lipped glance before looking down at the phone, "So it wasn't a lie to avoid talking to me?" My arms folded in front of myself, protecting me from my discomfort.
A look of compassion filled his face, "Couse not, Doll. I wouldn't be here if that was the case. Or waited two for you to get here." His right arm came upon the table, extending towards me. He looked down at it like he hadn't been the one to move the limb, before moving it back to his lap beneath the table, looking almost embarrassed.
Letting out a quiet huff, I grabbed the phone and was pleasantly surprised to find it open to the home page immediately without a password and quickly entered my contact information, adding in a cat and dog emoji just for fun before handing it back over to him.
I squinted my eyes at him in a teasing manner, "I guess you make some fair points. I have been known to jump to conclusions." Olivia set a new glass of coke down for Bucky and water in front of me.
She scoffed at me, "That's an understatement. You expect the worst from just about everybody new to you." She gave Bucky an exasperated look, shaking her head before grabbing the damp cloth I had used to dry off from the table.
I rolled my eyes at her, "That's not true." I looked over at Bucky to see him holding back a smile, "Besides, no one asked you." I looked back at Olivia and stuck my tongue out at her before grabbing my hot cocoa and stealing a small sip.
Olivia just chuckled to herself before turning to leave the table. "Your food should be out soon." She called over her shoulder as she walked.
My gaze met Bucky's as he quietly studied me before speaking. "I know this is going to sound terrible but I'm glad you weren't avoiding and that you're okay."
I gave him a look of mocked shock, lifting my hand to hold over my heart, "You mean to tell me that you're glad I wrecked my car and that's why I was late, instead of trying to avoid you." I let out a little laugh and brought my hands to the table to grasp my warm mug. Bucky's eyes got wide and lifted his hands, clearly misunderstanding my sarcasm.
"No not at-" Bucky rushed out before I quickly cut him off.
"I'm kidding!" I said while pulling Bucky's jacket tighter to keep the chill out that had started to creep around me, and trying to steal a small sniff of the scent I was starting to grow fond of.
Bucky gave me a playful glare.
"Besides, I should be the one apologizing for storming off like an overdramatic deva." I playfully rolled my eyes at myself, causing Bucky to let out a quiet chuckle.
We shared a moment of silence before Bucky brought both our attention to his phone still waiting on the table. "Okay so how exactly do I work this thing?" Bucky grabbed and started flipping and examining the phone, a look of pure confusion on his face.
"It'll just be easier if I show you. I'd move towards you, but I'm not going to lie, I'm already pretty sore. Can you come to my side of the booth?" I started to gently slide myself closer to the wall.
A look of concern took over his face, "Sure. You need anything?" He studied my face for any signs of distress as he stood from the booth and moved towards my side.
I shook my head at his concern as I grabbed my water and mug to move closer to my end of the table. "I'm fine. Cross my heart." I looked up at him and marked an X above my chest while raising the other hand.
As he settled into the booth, he handed his phone over to me. "You really never have had a phone before?" I asked while turning my body towards him, "You aren't just trying to make a comeback after your completely unbelievable excuse?" I asked with raised brows and took the phone from his outstretched hand.
"No, Doll. This is my first phone and I wouldn't lie to ya." Bucky shook his head at me before reaching over to bring his coke closer. He looked back over at me before getting lost in deep thought. He spoke but seemed to be choosing his words very carefully, "I wasn't able to have one or needed one. I guess things for me would be considered old fashioned." He brought a hand up to scratch his beard, at his jawline before using it to point at the phone resting in my hand. "So how do I do this whole phone thing." Bucky looked into my eyes expectantly.
"Well, what do you know how to do so far?" I asked while setting the phone between us on top of the table, his eyes following my movements.
"Turn the screen on." He stated slowly and gaged my reaction.
My face, I'm sure, was pure shock. Eyes wide and jaw dropped, "Okay…" I gave him a quizzical look before continuing, "You sure you aren't messing with me?" I leaned back from him so I could study his body movements as he answered.
"I'm not." He let out a soft snicker at my reaction before holding up his hands in a scout's salute, "Scouts honor."
I pursed my lips at him, "Were you really a boy scout?" I crossed my arms over my chest and awaited his reply.
Bucky's smile quickly dropped and his gaze became unfocused before he spoke so softly, I almost missed it, "I think so." Pulling his eyebrows together in consideration before meeting my gaze. "My memory can be spotty at times." He glared down at his hands that were resting on the table intertwined.
I brought my head down so he'd meet my gaze, "From the PTSD?" Trying to keep pity off my face and out of my voice. I understood how badly and how helpless you could feel being on the receiving end of pity.
He cleared his throat, covering his mouth with his hand and gently moving his palm back and forth on his lips in an almost self-soothing manner before looking deeply into my eyes, like he was searching for something in them. I could feel my heartbeat quicken its pace from the intensity of his stare. I felt myself drowning in the deep pools of Caribbean waters within his eyes.
He must have found what he was looking for because he blinked a few times like he was leaving a trance and looked away from me while also removing the hand that had still been resting upon his mouth. Dragging it from his mouth to rest at the back of his neck. He looked away from me and gave a sharp nod verifying my question.
Deciding it would be best to change the subject, mostly because the look of sorrow on his face was too much for me to bare. I grabbed the phone and softly nudged his shoulder with mine. He had to be all muscle because it was like bumping into a brick wall.
"Let's start with the basics. Calls and texting." I gave him a beaming smile while unlocking his phone.

Amateurs de drones
In the highly competitive segment of video drones, the DJI leader did not want to be left behind by the GoPro, Ehang, Parrot or Yuneec new releases. The actor who popularized the drone "assisted" unveiled at the end of September his Mavic Pro, a 4K drone and foldable not far from realizing the no-fault, on paper.
A flying camera that will speak to neophytes with its assisted steering and that will accompany them with a sport mode nervous but reassuring. From a strategic point of view, with this Mavic Pro, DJI takes the risk to cannibalize its range of Phantom, whose latest model instantly loses its interest. A cannibalization nonetheless necessary to impose itself against the main competitor and roller marketing, GoPro and his Karma. Visit: https://www.amateursdedrones.fr

Sticky AutoContents Panel
Update - 2018.01.27This is “Offer and Review Score” Post Layout. You can also add sticky contents panel
While the GoPro Hero5 has many of the same specs as the previous generation when it comes to video and photo resolutions, there are some new features in it.  Individually no single feature is a massive leap forward in the action cam industry, but collectively they represent a notable and substantial difference over the Hero4 Black.  This section is mostly focused on these new features, while the remaining sections take a deeper dive into the core functions of the camera, as well as touch on these new features in more detail.
Fully Waterproofed: Probably the most notable item is that the GoPro Hero5 Black is now fully waterproofed without the need for a separate case, just like the GoPro Hero4 Session was.  In fact, it has nearly the same rubberish material on the outside.
What is of more concern though is the USB-C/HDMI port door.  This door pops off for placement into the Karma gimbal/drone, as well as just for charging:

Now this won’t easily pop-off while it’s locked in place, as you have to press a button down to open it (plus slide it).  But, the trick will be not losing it after charging your camera or while the charging cable is attached.  GoPro does sell the door as an accessory (albeit over priced), and I know I plan to buy an extra door and then seal it up somewhere special in my backpack/suitcase for traveling.  Because I guarantee you that I’ll lose it at the most inopportune time on a trip to some beautiful watery location and be unable to take pictures of The Girl underwater in a bikini without the door.
Speaking of doors that we don’t want opening up, we’ve also got the battery compartment down below.  That holds both the battery as well as the micro-SD card:
Touch Display:
The Hero5 takes the touch display found on the Hero4 Silver and advanced it forward.  As you might remember, the Hero4 Black actually lacked a display.  This was one reason that the Hero4 Silver was actually a more day to day favorite of mine than the Hero4 Black was.
However, the touch display acts and feels significantly different here than the Hero7 Silver.
The entire menu system has been redone to make it more intuitive to find settings.  Along the bottom it shows you the basics for that mode.  For example, in the video mode it shows you resolution and frame rate.
You can tap on it to change these specs.  Only the available frame rates will display for a given resolution.  In theory this looks beautiful, but in practice it’s actually more cumbersome than I expected.  I think this is because there’s just too many resolutions too closely together for a normal sized finger to hit the right resolution on that small display.
On the right side of the display you can enable various advanced settings for that mode, such as ProTune, Image Stabilization, and Audio Control:
All of this is of course waterproof as well.  Though, it won’t work underwater.  For that you’ll need to use the push-buttons on the top/side of the camera to change modes.
Speaking of a wet display, in general I found it doesn’t work well when wet either.  Especially if your fingers are wet, it all goes to crap and fails to respond.
You can turn this option on/off, and it’s available in seven languages.  Also, if you have the Remo accessory remote, that’ll accept voice commands too in the event the camera is out of range of your voice.
But…it’s not perfect.  I found that it works most of the time when standing still.  But once you start moving I found both it and the Hero5 Session actually perform worse than Garmin does.  At about 10MPH (15KPH) I find the ability to give commands pretty much dies no matter which way the camera is facing.  Whereas with Garmin it’ll continue working above that speed as long as the camera is facing you.
Video & Audio details
Ahh yes, video time.  No better place to start diving into features than video modes.  In many ways the Hero5 is similar in these modes to the Hero4 Black.  After all, it too has 4K @ 30FPS and 720P @ 240FPS, the two ends of the spectrum that people often talk about.  The footage looks beautiful in 4K – no doubt.
youtube
So what’s new and notable here?  Well we’ll start with the video stabilization.  Technically this is ‘electronic image stabilization’, which works by taking a larger resolution video clip (i.e. 4K) and then smoothing the video by offering a reduced resolution rate while stabilized (up to 2.7K).  By doing this it essentially stabilizes by cutting the edges off the corners to make the video appear smooth.  It’s the same thing that Garmin does on their VIRB Ultra 30 (but the Garmin is limited to 1440 vs the higher 2.7K), but is different than what Sony does with their new X3000R, where they use optical image stabilization.  That’s better because it doesn’t crop any of the image.
To enable image stabilization, you’ll simply swipe from the right.  It’ll warn you about cutting about 10% of the field of view:
For cases where you’ve got some light chop in the roadway, or even for hand holding the unit, image stabilization can dramatically improve things.  Though, that’s at the sacrifice of resolution.  If your final output product’s 1080p, then it’s largely a no-brainer.  Do note that it generally works better when you’re shooting something that has a large portion of the image facing one direction constantly.  Versus on a helmet mount, it can get a bit wonky as you move the view around a bunch.
What’s even more interesting though is the ability to record the native audio files from each microphone separately.  If you enable ProTune, you’ll see a new option to do this.  Within that you have three levels:
All of these were simply taken at room temperature; obviously aspects like environmental temperature will impact things considerably, as will other modes and increased frame rates.  But those give you some basic bounds to work within.
Photo mode:
While the Hero7 Black doesn’t offer any more resolution than the Hero4 Black did, it does offer a number of substantial photo-focused features.  First, the basics though.  To get into the photo mode you’ll go ahead and tap the mode button until you see photos.  Or, just tell the GoPro to take a photo using voice commands.
Now there are technically different photo modes, including the ability to take a burst photo, a series of photos as a timelapse, or night photos. Note that this photo timelapse is separate from the video timelapse option.  This produces a crapton of photo files, whereas the video timelapse produces a single video timelapse file.
That’s the basic differences. Again, both cameras are very good, you won’t go wrong with either.  For me, I prefer the Hero5 Black because I like to be able to see and frame up what I’m taking a photo/video of.  Whereas the Hero5 Session it’s shoot and pray that you’ve got it lined up.  Sure, you can use your phone for certain shots – but most of us won’t do that.

Watch Out DJI, The Skydio 2 Has Landed
When I was speaking with the PR team of a certain drone manufacturer earlier this year, DJI was the elephant in the room. Alluded to but never mentioned, as if uttering the name of the world’s dominant drone company was enough to undermine a new product launch.
Contrast that approach with the unveiling of Skydio’s latest drone, the Skydio 2.
The first visual from the promotional video shows a DJI Phantom 4 flying straight into a road sign before crashing into the ground. ‘Drones are dumb’ is the text that follows. Well, when you put it like that…
The Skydio 2
Clearly, Skydio isn’t messing around. The comparisons with DJI are a bold and unmissable part of the company’s marketing. It’s refreshing.
When releasing a new drone with a knowing swagger, it helps to have the technology to back it up.
After all, who can forget the hype of GoPro’s marketing campaign, which quickly turned into a horror show as the Karma started randomly falling from the sky in what turned out to be an apt metaphor for the company’s fortunes in the drone business.
Fortunately for Skydio, this US company’s new drone appears to have plenty of substance behind the strut.
Read more: Skydio: The Drone Industry’s Best Kept Secret?
youtube
The original R1 was a game-changing drone that combined aerial photography with a level of sense-and-avoid computer vision tech that we hadn’t seen before. There was never any doubting the drone as a feat of engineering.
The aim from Skydio has always been to develop a kind of flying camera crew, a drone smart enough to handle everything while you concentrate on doing something awesome.
But despite largely achieving that, questions were raised over whether the R1 was affordable enough for the consumer market, whether the camera quality was on a par with its internal sophistication, and whether it was versatile enough for drone pilots who like being, well… pilots.
You get the idea: there were a few things to work on. A few tradeoffs made when developing a flying supercomputer, which is fair enough.
We want to challenge the myth that an American company can’t build a superior drone.” – Skydio
Read more: New Developer Platform Could Make Skydio R1 The Go-To Commercial Drone
Fully autonomous cinematography
The Skydio 2 is an attempt to rectify those issues while building on an already industry-leading computer vision system.
The new drone hits the market at a highly competitive price point of $999, significantly cheaper than the Mavic 2 – which is, let’s face it: a huge but very welcome surprise. It’s also over $1,500 cheaper than the original R1 upon launch, which says a lot.
DJI has so far managed to strangle most of the competition from the hardware market with aggressive pricing, but it looks as though Skydio has found a viable way to sell a seemingly superior product for less.
The Skydio 2: Affordable (and genuine) autonomy?
The Skydio 2’s camera has been upgraded: The Skydio 2’s Sony 1/2.3”, 12.3MP camera captures 4k video at 60 fps in full HDR. As has the battery life, which has been bumped up from 16 minutes to 23 minutes on a single battery.
The top speed is up to. The Skydio 2 can hit 36mph. It’s also portable enough for aerial photography on the go. The company says it can fit anywhere you can fit a 13″ laptop.
Under the hood is an NVIDIA Jetson TX2, which is pretty much the fastest, most power-efficient embedded AI on the market. With 256 GPU cores capable of 1.3 trillion operations a second, you aren’t going to be crashing this drone anytime soon.
In fact, the company is so confident in its tech that, providing you’re operating your Skydio 2 within its ‘Safe Flight guidelines’, Skydio will repair or replace crashed drones for free. Yes, really.
We have immense respect for DJI and the products they create, but the industry as a whole is not healthy. The current generation of manually flown drones haven’t delivered on the ideas that have gotten so many of us excited about drones over the last few years. They claim to have autonomy capabilities but it’s still a “gee whiz” side feature, not a trustworthy part of the core experience.” – Skydio

The Skydio 2 comes with a Beacon and Controller
There are also some new accessories that will be welcomed by those who questioned the R1’s versatility.
A new controller (which looks suspiciously similar to that of the Parrot Anafi) extends the range of the Skydio 2 to 3.5km. Pilots can get behind the controls with full manual flight, with all the safety perks that come with having full obstacle avoidance in every direction.
This is a huge step for potential buyers who may previously have worried that Skydio’s drones didn’t offer the cinematic flexibility they were looking for.
The Skydio 2 comes with a controller for increased range and cinematic flexibility.
There’s also a new accessory, the Skydio Beacon, which increases the communication range to 1.5 km and adds GPS tracking for when the Skydio 2 loses sight of you.
As well as keeping the drone on track when you’re out of the picture, Beacon can be used as a kind of controller. With Beacon’s wand feature, you can control Skydio 2 by simply pointing where you want it to go. It can also be used to activate cinematic skills like Dronie or Rocket at the touch of a button.
The Skydio Beacon adds the reassurance of GPS tracking alongside one-touch controls.
One thing to bear in mind: The controller and Beacon cost $150 each.
A launch the drone industry needed?
It’s really exciting to see Skydio deliver a compelling follow-up to the R1. The price is competitive, the capability appears unmatched, and the warranty is practically unheard of.
This is a company with complete confidence in its product and the underlying technology it’s spent the best part of a decade developing. We can’t wait to see how the industry applies the new Skydio 2 beyond the enthusiast market.
It’s also long overdue that DJI had some genuine competition. Pilots and industry professionals around the world stand to benefit from a healthier marketplace with more innovation and more companies fighting for business.
Skydio 2: Price and availability
The Skydio 2 is available for $999. Shipments are expected to start in November with a limited supply for this year. You can reserve your spot in line by placing a $100 reservation on the Skydio website.

20 THOUGHTS: Mid-season shaft
GEE it’s getting cold in Melbourne.
Left my half-finished Farmers Union iced coffee for just a second, came back and it had become a Masterchef-esque espresso semifreddo. Ridiculous.
But it still ain’t as cold as what we witnessed between B.Scott and D.King at Marvel Stadium on Saturday arvo.
Their relationship, or lack thereof, would give you a full, frozen ice cream in seconds.
Bit to unpack with that, and lots more happening too.
 1.       Let’s go all Brad Scott stuff up front. On the David King stuff firstly, let’s not forget, he is ‘a Scott brother’, who was coached by Leigh Matthews, and then tutored as a coach-in-waiting by Mick Malthouse. This ain’t a man brought up to make the romance with arachnids, so to speak. Therefore nothing to see here, Kingy ain’t exactly a precious flower either, so the idea Scott should be reprimanded, please, whoever’s saying that wasn’t hugged enough by their mother growing up, clearly.
2.       Where to for now for Scott? Don’t know. When you’re a bourgeoning assistant, any jobs a good job. When you’ve done ten years, and impressed, you can afford to take your chances. I don’t think he is any certainty to coach anywhere next year, in fact the idea he does some media next year and ends up following paths similar to say Rodney Eade or Neil Balme sounds pretty plausible.
3.       Here’s one thing though, and where one must be careful – a handful of Giants players knew about Brad Scott’s departure before any Kangaroos players. Obviously Rhyce Shaw knew really early on, let slip to the younger brother playing up in Sydney, next thing Heath is smashing up WhatsApp with the latest scoop before anyone at Arden St, or Brad’s wife, were aware. Two words – classic Heater.
4.       So, John Longmire. Two schools of thought and I favour the second – first, is that after such a long time away from Melbourne he’d like to return to where he spent 12 years as a player and lead his old club into its next chapter, fully resourced, starting afresh given Sydney’s impending plight. Or secondly, if he wasn’t entertaining the idea of leaving his home state (born and bred Corowa on the banks of the Murray), why all of a sudden does the North job persuade him, might as well stay the course he was on before Brad Scott’s decision.
5.       So my shortlist for the North job next year, chuck Rhyce Shaw in that group as he’ll have enough of a go to make a fist of it, chuck Longmire in too, why not, then also Brett Ratten is the incumbent senior coach for anyone who is looking (Clarko’s 2IC, dare I say more), plus Michael Voss I think too would be a chance after his good work at Port. My smokey would be Blake Caracella at Richmond, master tactician; he came to the club after 2016, and look what happened thereupon.
6.       Mid-season draft, don’t mind for the minutiae of it all, its either kids who you’ll never see play or Marlion Pickett who ends up being in Richmond’s best 22 by year’s end. But, SANFL CEO Jake Parkinson released a statement last night I have to empathise with, where aside the positive yarns you’ll read about in most of the press, his view was rather different.
"We will continue to stand firm in our opposition to a mid-season draft," he said, “(it) will have a significantly detrimental impact on SANFL clubs who work hard to develop their players and teams lists and position themselves for success”. He continued “it will not be possible for ... [the] clubs to find replacements for their players taken," and “affected SANFL clubs now face the remainder of their 2019 season without key players”.
Very hard to not agree with Parkinson – if we’re going to do this again it needs a re-think and a more respectful approach the lower leagues affected.
7.       People having a go about seeing the injection by the Brisbane doctor down in the race Sunday. Please. Firstly, why would you have a go at the doctor, he did the right thing and did it away from spectators, but secondly, whilst it’s not exactly what you tune in to watch footy for, I don’t see it as being offensive, or indeed inappropriate to small children who face the reality of needles from an early age. Unless this is part of that whole ‘anti-vaccination’ thing which in that case I’m moving on…
8.       Great piece of commentary on that final play in the Dockers-Lions balltearer on the weekend by a caller you mightn’t know – Adam Paplia gets the odd Perth game or the dud games in the Fox Footy roster, but delivered “he has made every post a winner” in the immediate aftermath of Michael Walters winning behind. Thought it was very sharp.
9.       Earlier Sunday the Giants eroded their MCG hoodoo. No they didn’t – it never existed. Last year they played two preliminary finalists over three games for one win and two losses, year before that played only two MCG games, against Richmond, who ended up winning the flag. If losing games to good teams interstate is a hoodoo then maybe those anti-vaxxers might have a thing after all, not sure…
10.   What’s Christian Petracca doing? Went pick two almost five years ago, and is lumbering around the half forward line looking muscly but doing seven-eighths of stuff all. Hasn’t got a tank, or a defensively-minded bone in his body. Oh, but he has strengths that could work as an effective mid-sized forward you say? Well three picks after him was Jordan De Goey, whose had enough time to be a pest off-field, do penance and announce himself as a gun forward six months ago. Time to get serious Christian, we’re bored.
11.   And whilst we’re on those who need to get serious, Mitch McGovern, stolen a moustache from one of those Debra does American cities doco’s and has seemingly taken it upon himself to skip training to in order to smash carbs. That boy needs to not play away games, that figure in a slim-fitting white jersey would be a sight no-one needs to see in 4K.
12.   And another one – Jesse Hogan. Has reputation and presence like Clint Eastwood walking into a country town in ‘insert Western film here’, but seemingly hasn’t got any bullets, to keep the metaphor going, nor do I think he even has a gun in either holster. Jaryd Roughead can’t get a game, nor can Josh Jenkins, but eight goals in nine games, four in his last five, Hogan’s getting a sweet ride.
13.   Brissy, gee, bless them, look almost assured of an elimination final even before we leave Autumn, its an impressive season to date. They were super stiff not to take the chocolates on Sunday and be nudging top four. Impressive stuff from the Lions.
14.   Carlton though, I tell you what, you wouldn’t want to be Brendan Bolton, but you do want to coach them in 2020, which is a bizarre scenario. This is a team teetering on the edge of clicking into a winning, finals-bound unit, but Bolton ain’t doing himself any favours. Damien Hardwick’s winning without his best half-dozen players, Nathan Buckley has his team idling but doing enough when it matters, even John Longmire’s coached a really competitive outfit for three weeks now for two wins and a narrow loss, Bolton needs one if not two of the next three to survive probably.
15.   Chris Judd, another balancing a serious footy role in club land with media gigs, has always deflected pretty well the Bolton stuff on Footy Classified, but on Monday he was different. His body language suggested decisions or conversations with impending outcomes had been now had, and recently, and it was less defensive of his senior coach and more ‘what will be will be’. My view, if not reading too much into it, Scott’s departure or otherwise, is that the Blues board see the time as now to make a call on Bolton, and to support Damien Barrett just this once, a sacking around the bye should those two or so wins not realise is increasingly likely.
16.   Sad about Paddy McCartin ey? Lots was reported with him hitting media street on Sunday, but my main takeaway was Billy Brownless, his pseudo father-in-law, talking on the Sunday Footy Show. Billy spoke really sombrely about how his daughter’s boyfriend struggles with headaches constantly, and whilst usually a very enthusiastic and jovial media performer, to have Brownless so forlorn talking about someone he cares about really struggling, it really struck a chord. Wish you well Paddy.
17.   Gotta call out the Doggies, I’m a fan but surprised they’re not copping more heat. 13th, four and six, a decent percentage, sure, but have now lost to Gold Coast, North and Carlton. That Richmond win in Round Seven is counting for a lot right now.
18.   Daniel Wells, probably a career-ending injury in what now seems decided is his last year. But he has opted to go for one last crack, looking for the moons to align where the Pies make the finals and go deep, he gets himself fit to be considered, and the makeup of the team at the time warrants his selection. He might be able to kick two or three in a winning final if all those moons align, but otherwise this knee injury has drawn curtains on a great career.
19.   West Coast, I’m a critic and not just because of Dom Sheed’s annoyingly accurate set shot last September, but I wasn’t buying what they were selling thus far in 2019. And aside from Luke Shuey’s genius, who along with Elliott Yeo are carrying that midfield right now, in the last quarter they lose to a plodding Adelaide whose captain has gone missing. So how’s their form then, six and three, looking good? I’m still subscribing to a ‘gift of a run’, where off the back of two bad losses to Port and Geelong, they have starred down the barrel of a bad loss in each of the four games since but have just managed. That all said, they’ll win at least four of their next five looking ahead so a top four finish, despite all of their shortcomings, looks on.
20.   Gaz and his punch, who cares whether he deserved it or not, whether it’s karma for the two elbows he got off, or whether he is playing angry. Its perfect management of a 34-year-old who was already scheduled to stay up in the Gold Coast longer than the team for a mini-break, so his forced week off actually just makes those plans even tastier and freshens him up a couple weeks before the bye. Seriously, Geelong are just crunching this season so far, it’s a right laugh.

Best Camera Quadcopter's 2017 AND 2018
Drone websites
Introduction There are two types of drones: 1.) Camera drones 2.) Racing drones Camera drones This kind of drones are extremely common nowadays. They're mostly used while shooting videos as well as still images from an aerial position. A few of the camera drones are also used for surveillance. Under this type of drones we will visit some of the best drones in detail:
buy a drone
1.) DJI INSPIRE 2 This really is probably the most professional ready to fly drone that's fast and has high-quality pictures and videos. Main features a.) Its suitable for 5.2k cameras that has 360 degrees gimbal panning. It also has a first person view camera that helps in dual pilot operation. One person can control the first person view camera while the other can operate the recording camera hence reliable for good and perfect shots. b.)Its obstacle sensing mechanism is much more advanced compared to inspire 1. C.) It can proceed to a speed of up to 67mph and also go as far as 7kilometres from the remote controller. 2.) I try not to get drawn into debates about whether Chinese companies are capable of “genuine” innovation. It’s a ridiculous question and invites nasty stereotypes. Plus, if I hear one more genius invoke the iPad to justify his claim of American tech superiority I think my head may explode.
You probably know the argument I’m talking about. It goes: Sure, the iPad is assembled in China and China dominates the manufacturing process but it doesn’t matter because Americans design such awesome devices and brilliant operating systems that they add most of the value and capture most of the profit. (You’ll find data to support the Apple “value-added” argument here and here.)
I don’t deny Apple’s success. But it doesn’t prove Chinese companies can’t innovate or that there aren’t a lot of advantages to being heavily involved in both the design and manufacture of your products. Consider the case of another increasingly popular electronic gadget: consumer drones. In that category, the global leader isn’t from Silicon Valley or any other Western economy. It’s Da-Jiang Innovations Science and Technology Co., also known as DJI, based in Shenzhen, China
DJI currently claims 70% of the world's market for drones. Sales surged 60% to $1.4 billion in 2016. DJI’s financial backers include Accel Partners. The company’s latest funding-round gives it a valuation of $10 billion.
This week DJI bolstered its already formidable lead in consumer drones by introducing Spark, a new model mini-drone that is as small as a soda can, can be controlled by hand gestures, and costs less than $500.
As recently as two years ago, there were at least a half dozen companies competing to produce drones in a price and performance format that would appeal to mainstream consumers. Leading contenders included Parrot, a 22 year-old French electronics manufacturer; Lily Robotics, a San Francisco-based drone startup; and GoPro, the popular maker of portable action cameras.
Parrot surrendered in January, announcing it would eliminate two-thirds of the positions in its drone division. The company now says it will repurpose its drone lines to meet the needs of professionals in agriculture, mining and real estate.
Lily, founded in 2013, released a dazzling video in mid-2015 touting a camera drone that would follow you around and could be launched simply by tossing it into the air. The video attracted millions of viewers and helped raise $15 million in funding, and sold more than $34 million in pre-orders. But the company ran into production difficulties and burned through all its cash. In January 2017, it shut down without shipping a single unit.
GoPro was the odds-on favorite. The company had a well-known brand and a solid following among outdoor adventurers. In 2015, GoPro executives announced plans to release an small, affordable drone called the Karma by spring of 2016. But the release had to be pushed back until November and then, only days before launch, pushed back again because malfunctions caused the Karma drones to lose power and fall from the sky. It was eventually released in February.
Few expected DJI to triumph. The company was founded in 2006 by Frank Wang, a Hangzhou native studying engineering at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Its first model, the Phantom quadcopter released in 2013, was for enthusiasts and professional photographers. Late last year, the company launched a smaller, more portable consumer drone called the Mavic Pro that was priced under $1000 and delivered on features rivals had only promised. The Mavic Pro can fly for just under 30 minutes on a single battery charge with a range as far as 7 kilometers, offers a 4K video and yet is is small enough to fold up and put in a book bag. The best thing about the Mavic is its unique software that enables it to detect obstacles mid-air and avoid crashes, and automatically return to “base” if runs low on power. The product drew rave reviews from customers.
DJI executives cite their location with the manufacturing ecosystem of southern China’s Pearl River Delta as critical to their success. The company has its own manufacturing facilities. Engineers can test prototypes in neighboring facilities, speeding product development. DJI can recruit from a large pool of engineering talent. They can’t imagine trying to manage all that from a research park half a world away.
Spark, the new mini-drone, is an example of such innovation. It has a range of only 2-kilometers and can stay aloft for just 16 minutes. But Spark has many of the same software features as the Mavic, and can be controlled by hand gestures, a big plus for beginners. (Read TIME’s spark review here.) Spark’s rollout prompted analysts at the Motley Fool to declare: “GroPro’s Karma is Now Dead in the Water.”
Smug assumptions about China’s inability to innovate deserve a similar fate.

Stephen Roach on China's changing growth model: Roach, formerly chief economist and Asia chairman at Morgan Stanley and now lecturer at Yale University, was among the first Western observers to call attention to China's efforts to shift from a growth model driven by investment and exports to one driven by domestic consumption. In this brief essay, he expresses surprise that China is shaping up to be "more outwardly focused, more assertive, and more power-centric than I envisioned" when he started teaching his course on China's economy in 2010. He also notes that, under Xi Jinping, China manifests "less commitment to a market-based reform agenda featuring private consumption and SOE restructuring." Project Syndicate
Moody's doubles down on warning that soaring debt threatens Chinese growth: Beijing decried Moody's decision earlier this week to downgrade China's sovereign debt rating one notch to A1 from Aa3. The agency said a downgrade was justified because of runaway credit growth and China's nearly 300% debt-to-GDP ratio. Chinese government officials attacked the downgrade as alarmist and based on flawed methodology. A front-page editorial in the state-run People's Daily blasted the decision as "sloppy" and "illogical." Moody's was unmoved. On Friday, executives warned China's risked another downgrade if failed to rein in borrowing. The Guardian
China tightens its grip on the renminbi: An agency controlled by China's central bank signaled Friday that it will intervene more aggressively in global currency markets to prop up the value of the renminbi. The announcement follows a series of recent moves by Chinese officials to restrict the ability of Chinese businesses and investors to take money out of China. The shift runs counter to China's stated desire to allow the renminbi to trade more freely and join the dollar and the euro as a genuine global currency. But the move was a consistent with a broader effort by Chinese authorities to minimize risk in the run up to a crucial Communist Party congress. New York Times
A rust-belt bank regulator urges support for China's 'zombie' enterprises. Bao Zumin, director of the Banking Regulatory Bureau in northeast China's Heilongjiang province acknowledged in a press conference Thursday that his agency has actively encouraged creditors to roll over loans to companies in coal, steel and other troubled manufacturing sectors to minimize job losses in region. It's not unusual for China's bank regulators to prop up floundering manufacturers but acknowledging that support so openly is rare. Beijing has promised to eliminate excess capacity in sectors such as steel, coal, non-ferrous metals and other sectors in which China has been criticized for flooding global markets with cheap exports. China In the World
U.S. asserts "freedom of navigation" in the South China Sea: A U.S. guided missile destroyer sailed Wednesday within 12 nautical miles of Mischief Reef, an artificial island claimed by China in the South China Sea. China claims sovereignty over the 12 nautical miles surrounding Mischief Reef and other manmade islands in the South China Sea. The U.S. doesn't recognize China's claims. Wednesday marked the first time since Donald Trump took office that the Pentagon has allowed Adm. Harry B. Harris Jr., commander of the U.S. Pacific Command in Hawaii, to assert the U.S. position that waters surrounding the artificial islands are high seas and therefore the U.S. ships are free to operate there in accordance with international law. A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said Thursday that Beijing was "strongly dissatisfied" with the operation. New York Times
Mahathir on the rise of China: Malaysia has moved farther from the U.S. and closer to China over the past year under the leadership of prime minister Najib Razak. But Najib's predecessor and former patron Mahatir Mohamad, over a chicken burrito lunch with Financial Times Asia Editor Jamil Anderlini, describes China as the biggest threat to Asian stability. "With the changes in [its] leadership, we see more ambitious leaders coming in and maybe they like to flex their muscles a bit and that is very worrisome... Without actually conquering the countries they have managed to increase their influence over many countries in Southeast Asia, even in South Asia." Mahatir warned of a clash between rising China and the US-dominated world order: "They're not really communist but they are not democratic; they are inclined towards totalitarianism and obviously this conflicts with western ideas about implanting democracy in the countries of the world." Small Cine-Rovers for creative POV video: Part 1
What first started out as a fascination with ground based POV cam rovers, cars and trucks, I’ve seen a lot of expensive development going into this lately, so I decided to venture into what it takes to build a functional DIY rover that can be used in various locations and production purposes.
What first started out as a fascination with ground based POV cam rovers, cars and trucks, I’ve seen a lot of expensive development going into this lately, so I decided to venture into what it takes to build a functional DIY rover that can be used in various locations and production purposes.
Ground based systems that may look like simple RC toys (which at their heart, really are) have a function that neither aerial nor handheld operation can achieve. Getting into locations inaccessible or possibly dangerous by other means, is probably the number one reason to build a system like this. Agriculture, wildlife, conservation, geological studies and many other industries have need for an economical entry into this technology.
RC Rover with DJI OSMO mounted scaling rocks
The purpose of my particular concept was to find a lightweight and very flexible rover platform that could be used in various types of video production that I might encounter with corporate and governmental agencies as my clients. Getting good POV footage is always a challenge and seeing the world from different and compelling angles always keeps your production interesting. It’s also good to explore various ways to get you cameras into locations that might offer closer details or discovery after the fact from a mission.
So this is only Part 1 of what I hope to be a multi-part exploration of this conceptual endeavor. With the help from the folks at Multicopter Warehouse that provided all the camera gear and support, I also hoped to expand on this basic concept with more automation in the near future from the help of my engineer friends who used to work at 3D Robotics to build an ultimate Ardu Rover with autonomous control and more advanced electronics and automation.
Step 1: Selecting the right rover base
I did a lot of reading up on various RC crawlers, and while I’m no expert in this form of hobby in any means, I wanted something that was RTR (Ready to Run) and very reasonable on the pocketbook for folks to get into. I was looking more for stability and articulation of the suspension/frame to allow the smoothest passage of the rover over obstacles and through uneven terrain to help the onboard POV cams and gimbals provide a steady video and less risk of a tip-over.
I’ve seen lots of smaller 1:10/1:8 scale RC cars and trucks with GoPros mounted to them out in some of the RC forums but most of them were made to record their speed/action and not to deliver smooth video. I wanted something that would be able to literally crawl and not lose footing or tip over with the added weight of cameras/gimbals attached. I also wanted enough speed when needed to provide a smooth carriage ride for low-profile dolly shots on pavement or concrete floors such as warehouses and office buildings.
I discovered some 4×4, 6×6 and 8×8 crawlers that were promising, but trying to figure out how to attach cameras to the smaller frames seemed problematic. After seeing the demo videos of the Exceed MaxStone 5 Crawler from NitroRCX, I knew that this would be a great start for my concept rover.
Not only is this RC frame one of the longest in this class at 33″, but also has waterproof electronics that will be less sensitive to the elements you may venture into. The articulation of the suspension/chassis is incredible, even under load. With the foam-filled rubber tires mounted on true-beadlocked aluminum rims and an all-aluminum frame, this should provide a good solid base for a lot of experimentation for our concepts. It also features an adjustable suspension that will allow for control of the wheelbase and stiffness of the ride.
No risk of small obstacles stopping this rover!
Camera Mounting Methods
After many different experiments in camera & gimbal mounting techniques, I’m currently settled on one particular design that works with the DJI OSMO Handheld Stabilized Camera (or even the GoPro Karma Grip) that allows a secure attachment and flexibility for various shooting scenarios. I tried a low-profile cine cheeseplate mount attached securely to the front of the frame which allowed the OSMO to shoot forward and stabilize in a low angle. However from my tests, I noticed that this introduced more unnecessary vibration in the footage and didn’t allow rotation of the camera head as it does when the handle is mounted vertically or inverted. Of course, the GoPros are easily attached to the frame with the sticky-mounts and various angles or flex-mounts; especially for the Session, which is easy to place in just about any position.
So I’ve decided for now that I’m going to use parts of my cine production kit from Genustech which includes two rails with a clamping mount base and a Cine Arm to attach the OSMO to the rover frame. This allows more mount points and reduces flex and twist from the gimbal mount and can be positioned either low-profile or twist the mount to any configuration to capture stabilized and smooth video.
The “OSMO Rover” running around a warehouse.
We also tried some smoother surfaces such as pavement (which still introduces some slight vibration in 4K footage as you’ll see in our demo video) which could be due to the off-road tires and stiffness of the suspension. Indoors, we tried smooth concrete, carpet and other crazy tests as you’ll see in test video as well.
Actually, the OSMO proved to be quite stable in the warehouse, while the GoPros showed quite a bit of vibration from the tires/frame.
Lastly, I’m not used to using the radio controllers that come with these RC cars and don’t plan on keeping this system hooked up for long anyway, especially once we incorporate the Ardu Rover into it, but for now I needed a way to attach the OSMO smartphone mount where I could see it and access it easily for operating the camera and gimbal features.
I opened up the stock controller just enough to check for clearance on the left side/top and then simply used some 3M tape and a self-tapping screw to attach the mount to the controller. It’s a bit awkward as you have to hold the gun-style grip/trigger with your left hand and twist the wheel knob with your right and the weight of the smartphone hanging off the left is a bit unbalanced, but it does work well.
Unfortunately, since the OSMO is WiFi from your smartphone to the camera, there is a slight lag in the signal, so trusting this setup as your only FPV source is inadvisable. It does however, help you line up the shots you hope to capture and if the OSMO is positioned in a vertical or inverted stance, you can use the touch-screen to rotate the gimbal around 360º.
So here are some first attempts at various terrains, obstacles and shooting scenarios, primarily captured with the DJI OSMO with PolarPro ND filters and GoPro Hero4 Black/Session so you can see the articulation of the chassis and watch the OSMO gimbal work.
One thing is very evident with 3-axis gimbals, especially on a small bouncing rover like this: we desperately need 3 more axis for X, Y, Z stabilization!

Looking Ahead…
Check out Part 2 where we look at a line of ready-made cine rovers called the Eclipse Rover, with more capabilities and stability. Beyond that, we should have some autonomous rover tests in the can as well.

Example of AutoContent List and Review
Update - 2018.01.27This is “Title outside Content” Post Layout.
