A classic animated Christmas film from 1975, about a young man's attempt to spread some joy across class boundaries in an anachronistic Stockholm, inspired by his hero Robin Hood. In Swedish, with English subtitles.
Actually i think i'd like all of you to have a shot at watching Karl-Bertil Jonsson--- here it is with english subs... a true swedish x-mas classic:
The story of 14 year old boy whose greatest idol is Robin Hood-- and boy does it show!

Err... quick warning before hitting play though, this short movie has two scenes i feel deserve a trigger warning, please read those below before pressing play to avoid any unpleasant surprises-- and if this makes makes you too uncomfortable, then please do not press play at all
tw: at the 20:22 mark there's a second of lots of different flags depicted.. one of them the nazi germany flag--- this is not to glorify something awful.. but rather to depict the 1930/40 as it actually were... warts and all one can also read it as a jab at the 'neutrality' of my country at the time... but that's another can of worms
tw: at the 17:31 mark there's a split second of a lady with her tits out... and believe it or not that's still shown on tv for millions of viewers every xmas in sweden. culture shocks am i right?? got censored in britain apparently
Today is a sad, sad day. Animator Per 脜hlin has passed away, 91 years old. He was Sweden鈥檚 own Miazaki and his 1989 The Journey to Melonia should be on the watchlist of anyone with an interest in animation.
He gained his place in the heart of most Swedes with an animated short, Sagan om Karl-Bertil Jonssons julafton, shown on Christmas Eve each year sins 1975.
I once met him in a local store and got the opportunity to tell him how much his work has meant to me - in a rather incoherent way I鈥檓 afraid.
The picture is an homage to his style I did as a reaction of getting the news a few hours ago.
Sweblr varf枚r 盲r vi inte galna 枚ver spelfilmsversionen av Karl-Bertil Jonsson? Det var tammefan det finaste jag sett sen originalet! Feta pluspo盲ng f枚r att inkludera Tage Danielssons sannolikhetsmonolog i slutet dessutom.
>american asks me to watch christmas special for its leftist themes
>ask them if the media is anti-capitalist or anti-consumerist
>they don't understand
>i pull out illustrated diagram explaining what makes a piece of christmas media properly anti-capitalist as opposed to religiously anti-consumerist because consumerism distracts from jesus
>they laugh and say "it's a wholesome leftist message sir"
It's Christmas! You know what that means, every sensible Swedish person is gearing up to watch a disney christmas special from 1956, a movie about a boy who finds a grandfather at an old people's home (because he doesn't have one) and a cartoon short film about a boy that redistributes the rich's christmas presents to the poor that will radicalise them all over again...like they've done every single year since they were born
