I apologize for well Europeans as an European myself.
my only advice is to BE CAREFUL posting about holiday traditions around europeans. you'll post something casual like "anyone else watch the old Grinch movie every year? what a classic" and a european will appear as if summoned and say some shit like "funny how USAmericans always CONVENIENTLY forget that Not Everyone On Earth is from The USA…….. no of COURSE we dont watch 'the grunch' or whatever the fuck that is…. our tradition is to attend a community showing of Glummdorf the Racial Stereotype"
#I don’t know if it’s a good sign or a bad sign I can’t come up with any racist Christmas tradition#either we don’t have any that at least my family participate in or I am blind#but I will warn you#don’t start talk about Christmas traditions with me OR you will find yourself stuck with my yapping for a long time#it will include but not be limited to:#Donald duck (a must at 3 pm)#the guy who got inspiration from Robin Hood and had an extra job at a post office and stole packets that was sent to rich people#obviously he checked their salary before stealing them#and did NO exceptions for his own father#and then he gave them to the poorest in the society#his father called him communist. I call him hero#Karl Bertil Jonson is a true classic#oh it started sorry

13 + 14 June 1998 - HRH the Queen’s 72nd Birthday and the cringeworthy Donald Duck joke
Originally written in June 2018
Hi everyone,
Hope you are having a nice evening.Twenty years ago today and tomorrow, I went on the cheapest path from Munich to Prague. And came back the next day almost 11 PM. Saturday the 13th June 1998, it was a few days before the start of the 1998 FIFA World Cup. Widgetmeister International had two paid days off officially, namely Fronleichnam for Thursday the 11th, and Friday the 12th. Neither day counted against my vacation balance. On Thursday I did a bit of exploring on the S-8 line from Englschalking up to the Franz Josef Strauss airport, known also by its airport code "MUC". The Schönes Wochenende ticket would not be valid as it was a Thursday so I bought a ticket for the outer zones of the MVV-München transit area that were otherwise not covered by my month pass. It was raining so there was not much to see. At the time, there was also an expansion project for the S-1 train, instead of all trains going to Neufahrn and Freising, some S-1 trains would also go to the airport. This was called the "Neufahrner Spange".
Friday the 12 June was a shopping day. I bought myself a Czech language guide. Czech is not exactly romanized Russian. For that reason, it is a good idea to have a Czech language book.Saturday the 13 June arrived. I had to be at München Hbf by 7:10 AM to catch the train to Plattling, and it left from the "short-haul" track 25. On the German rail side, this was the only known electrified section. On Saturday *and* Sunday, the Schönes Wochenende Ticket was valid, and for only 35 Mark. The train stopped at Freising, Landshut and Landau on the Isar before arriving at Plattling about 9 AM. About 9:05 AM, a diesel unit went on to the border at Bayerisch Eisenstein. This train really went through the backwoods, made about nine stops about ten minutes from each other. The train did not arrive in Bayerisch Eisenstein until 10:13 AM. So what was at Bayerisch Eisenstein? It was a border town on the German side, and right at the same station was the Czech border, known as Železná Ruda-Alžbětín. You had to have your passport ready for stamping back then as the Czech Republic was neither in the European Union nor a Schengen member. Also, then as now, they did not use the Euro. So changing money was necessary. I think the exchange rate then was 21 Koruna to 1 DM. The smallest coin was the 10 Heller, then the 20 and 50 Heller, then 1 Koruna, 2 Koruna, 5, 10 and so on. Bills were 20, 50, 100, 200, 500. Please refer to XE.com in case I cannot otherwise provide an equivalent in Dollars, Mark or Euro. Back then the Czech Republic was inexpensive compared to Germany. Even the train fare. But somehow you get what you pay for, likely in speed and comfort.I bought a single fare ticket to Prague at the Zelezna Ruda station on the Czech side, paying in Koruna. I think it was 75 Koruna then, as today it costs 110 Koruna.
The train left about 11:08 AM, and arrived in Plzen about 1:10 PM. For a distance of 60 miles, it must have gone an average of 30 mph, unelectrified, windy and slow up to Klatovy, and then fairly straight, medium-fast and electrified the rest of the way. Plzen Hlavní Nádrazí (central station) has an interesting dome. At Plzen, I made a quick shopping journey to a grocery store along Americká called the Maxi Hit. I bought some beer and Slivovitz - the real good plum brandy.
When I arrived back at the Plzen station, I found that the regular train to Prague was delayed. I had my radio with me, and there was a BBC English broadcast on. Apparently it was Queen Elizabeth's birthday and they did a short tribute. Later in the broadcast, one joke that they told was "Why did Donald Duck? Because someone was shooting at him"
I think the train to Prague arrived around 3 PM. It went as far as Prague Smichov. The conductor on the train gestured at me, to take the subway to the town center. I bought a 24 hour subway/bus ticket, I think for 70 Koruna, and stamped it at Smíchovské nádrazí, and went to my hostel at Karlovo námestí and on the street Na Zborencí. Back then it was owned by the Czech chapter of Hostelling International. Google maps still shows the big "Na Zborenci" sign in the alleyway where it remains. The room was cheap but there was no breakfast served on Sundays. And, I would find out later, that the room I was in, was co-ed, something I was not used to in a dorm room in a hostel.
I dropped off my luggage at my bedside in the hostel, then took the subway at Karlovo Namesti to Staromestska, the old part of Prague, changing at Mustek. At Staromestska is the clock tower, the Chram Matky, and next door is the Josefov, the Jewish Quarter. The museums were closed that day so I could only walk around. I returned in 2006 to visit one of the synagogues and I still have the kippa. I took the Metro across the Vlatva river, and took a tram to Malostranské náměstí, the west side of Charles Bridge. It is a strictly pedestrian bridge, apparently a popular tourist attraction in itself. I have a selfie of being on that bridge in a red and white sweater, as Prague was a bit chilly, around the low 60s for temperatures. When I arrived on the east side, I found a store that sold hats, and that is where I bought that red-white-and-green striped hat. I think it is about a foot high, and yes, it is probably the silliest hat I ever owned. On 24th July 1998 I took a selfie of myself, yes, with that hat! I did not know blacklight theater back in 1998, though my next visit February 2006 I went to a show - albeit medicated - at the Image Black Light Theater, was very interesting and in the back rows it was optically amazing.
I was hungry and then looked for a place to have supper. Closer to the clock tower, the offers were a bit out of my price range. So I went to Staromestska. There was an interesting restaurant called the "Studentska Satlava" or "Student Jail". Apparently it was in the same building as where the writer Franz Kafka was born. They had excellent deals for supper, including dark locally produced beer. I had the sausage, chop and dumpling plate. Gosh that was good. Once that was done, I took the metro back to Karlovo Namesti, and went to bed. In the morning I had to check out, take my luggage to Karlovo Namesti and further on to Hlavni Nadrazi. I had a quick breakfast at what is now the CrossCafe. There were lockers in Hlavni Nadrazi to place luggage. Lockers were interesting as you could choose the combination with four dials. You would retrieve your luggage by picking the same dial positions.
I had not been to Vysehrad. There is a canyon between Vysehrad and I P Pavlova and the metro travels along the auto bridge. At Vysehrad there is a good view of Prague, also the Police Museum. I went shopping at the Budejovicka shopping center. It was open on Sunday, bought peanut flips, beer and slivovitz at the store because it was so cheap. I took the metro to I P Pavlova and a tram back to Staromestska, bearing in mind that I had to return to Hlavni Nadrazi by 12:30 to catch the train to Munich through Plzen, Zelezna Ruda, Bayerisch Eisenstein, and Plattling. I bought a ticket to Zelezna Ruda.
At 1 PM, the train left Praha Hlavni Nadrazi. I was in a second class compartment, where there were eight seats to a compartment, four on each side. In Germany, normally the same size would be for just six people in total. The compartment was not air conditioned, and it was okay as the temperatures were not expected to exceed the mid 70s that day. The train ride went without any extraordinary event up to Plzen. I had to find a post office to send a postcard, and I almost missed the connection from Plzen to Klatovy and Zelezna Ruda. At Klatovy I had to change to a very old diesel carriage, class 131, and to open the windows, you had to crank them up or down.
By the time the train reached Zelezna Ruda, about 6:50 PM, the lady at the sales hut was about to close. I made a few last minute purchases before crossing into Germany. The snack bar was crummy on the German side at Bayerisch Eisenstein so I thought I would wait until I arrived at Plattling for some food. Did not work out too well. The German customs stamped my passport and did not look at my bag of slivovitz and beer. The diesel train from Bayerisch Eisenstein arrived at Plattling about 8:45 PM, and there was not much time to get anything of value at the snack bar there.
The train to Munich arrived around 9:30 so I had to take my snack to go. The sun was about to set, and it was raining in the distance. In the sky was an interesting effect. I arrived home in Munich around 11 PM, I entered very quietly. I was not told about any alarm clock issues (see w/e 31 July - 2 August 1998), and the next morning I went to work on time, and at lunch I had some interesting stories to tell my work colleagues and I mentioned the striped hat.
Next adventure, Salzburg and the Berchtesgaden Salzbergwerk, weekend of 20th and 21st June 1998. Servus und Gute Nacht!

(sorry this going to be long!) So maybe tiger celebrates christmas with Bill and his family because of some reason and they are so many people, so many activities but suddenly 3 pm EVERYONE sits down infront of the TV and tiger don't understand a thing. And Bill just "Its kallianka" and she still don't understand. "we must watch Donald Duck, Kalle Anka, kallianka" Because yes, all swedes look at Donald Duck 3 pm on christmas eve when we celebrate christmas. (1/2)
bohemianfortunes said: But the weirdest thing is that no one is really watching. Bill sits with his phone, the kids play games and the old relatives are sleeping. So Tiger think she can change the channel and suddenly EVERYONE is looking at her. Because EVERYONE "watch" kallianka on christmas! (2/2)
I LOVE YOU AND ALL OF YOUR AMAZING SWEDISHNESS SO MUCH.
I didn’t even know this was a thing and now I am just so obsessed with this concept. Why Donald Duck?
And see, for those of you who asked me about Sweden’s “rules” or habits and whatnot--Donald Duck has literally been airing on the same channel in Sweden at the same time on the same day for 60 years.
60. YEARS.
God I love them and their routines.

Traveling Home Chapter 5: The Temple
Notes: I have a Spanish to English translation at the end of the chapter. You’ll understand once you get to the end. I also made this a longer chapter than usual to make up for the lack of updates yesterday and the late update today. Happy Easter!
Summary: Donald tries to escape the temple with the Ahuizotl is giving chase. Scrooge and the others make it back to the plane and an amigo arrives at the village.
Previous Chapter: https://shadow-light19.tumblr.com/post/172389666097/traveling-home-chapter-4-the-quicksand
Next Chapter: https://shadow-light19.tumblr.com/post/172578583882/traveling-home-chapter-6-the-mansion-notes-at
Day 1
“Can you hurry it up please?” Donald struggled to keep his voice calm. It pitched in panic at the end though.
He was already sunk to his chest. Scrooge twirled the rope and tossed it at the hiking stick. It missed. Scrooge reeled it in as he sunk a bit and twirled the rope again. Donald gripped his bag’s straps in anticipation. Scrooge had just hooked the rope on the stick when Donald felt something grab his leg. Before he could cry out in alarm, he was dragged under the quicksand. After a couple seconds, he hit solid ground with a resounding thud.
“Ow!” Donald sat up and rubbed his back.
“Where am I?”
~Grrrrrghrgh~
“Oh no...” Donald quickly stood and faced the direction the growl had come from.
The Ahuizotl glared back at him. It flexed its deadly claws.
~ROOOAAARRRR~
“Waaak!” Donald turned around and ran.
He didn’t know where he was going but he had to lose the creature. Each tunnel had several other tunnels connected and he ran until he found a door. He shouldered it open then held his breath as he shut the door, pressing his ear to it. Donald didn’t relax until he heard pounding pawsteps go past. Now that he was safe for the moment, he could try to figure out where he was. He turned away from the door.
“Wa-!” Donald clasped his beak shut with his hands.
Hopefully, the Ahuizotl didn’t hear that.
The chamber was filled with decaying bodies of fish and skeletons. Some skeletons were still wearing frayed or damaged clothing of villagers and sailors. Donald stumbled and vomited. He took a couple deep breaths to calm down before carefully tiptoeing his way through the chamber. The smell was horrible and he didn’t want to chance being in the same room for too long.
As he passed a pile midway through the chamber, a glimmer caught his attention. He turned back. There amidst a pile of dead fish, was a pile of stones. At the very top of the pile, was a gleaming blue topaz the size of a hairbrush.
That must be the Topaz!
Donald snagged it off the pile and shoved it into his bag. Since the chamber had three other doorways, he decided to go through the doorway directly across from where he entered.
Just as he closed the door behind him, he heard a thunderous bang from the chamber.
Oh no! It caught up with me!
Donald couldn’t stop to pull up the map on his phone. He would have to look at it after he got to a safer place. He took off through the tunnels again, crisscrossing in every direction. Donald must’ve been running and dodging through chambers and tunnels for hours, with short breaks in between, before he finally felt safe enough to rest awhile. Donald collapsed against the tunnel’s wall in exhaustion. He took a gulp of water from his water bottle and grabbed a granola bar from his bag.
Who knows how long I’m gonna be trapped in this tunnel? I have to make sure I ration everything just in case.
Donald had a couple extra water bottles in his bag as well as several bags of trail mix and a couple granola and protein bars. Launchpad had been carrying most of the supplies so Donald only had snacks on him. Once he was more rested, Donald pulled his phone out of his bag.
IT’S 9:45 PM?! Donald was dumbfounded. He didn’t realize that a whole day had passed by.
Everyone must be so worried! I hope Uncle Scrooge took the kids home. I don’t want them anywhere near this temple.
Donald noticed that his phone battery was at 78%. He would need to conserve it until he could get to the surface and call his family. He unlocked his phone and pulled up the photo of the map. He scanned it for any chamber he recognized but couldn’t find anything remotely similar to where he was.
Looks like I’m in one of the unexplored areas. I wonder how big this temple actually is?
Day 3 - Morning
It took Scrooge and the gang about 2 days to make it back to the little village that they had landed the plane by. Everyone was tired and heartbroken from their adventure and the villagers picked up on it. They noticed how that one duck with the black sailor suit was absent and that the rest of the travelers looked worn.
“If there is anything this village can do for you all please let us know. We give you our condolences for your friend.” The head of the village offered. He was a large dog with a gray mustache.
“Thanks, man, but I think we all really just want to go home now. It’s hitting everyone hard right now.” Launchpad replied.
Scrooge and the kids didn’t even notice that they were being spoken to.
“Have a safe journey home, travelers.” The villagers departed to their homes or nearby buildings to let them be.
Launchpad turned back to the group. They were heading for the plane on the outskirts of the village. The whole trip back had been quiet and depressing. Even now Launchpad wasn’t sure how to help them. He was struggling to keep himself composed enough to get them home.
I hope Mrs. Beakley knows how to help everyone. I don’t even know how we’re going to be able to handle this, let alone inform Donald’s friends and family about his passing.
Panchito Romero Miguel Junipero Francisco Quintero Gonzales and his trusty steed, Señor Martinez, were traveling alongside a mountain range. The two had been traveling for some time, seeking adventure and fortune so that Panchito could build his own Rancho.
“Hey look Señor Martinez! Es un cuidadito!”
The two were still a couple of miles from the village.
“Let’s ride!” Señor Martinez whinnied in agreement and took off running.
As they were approaching the village, they noticed a big red plane taking off from the left-side outskirts.
“That’s pretty fancy Señor! I wonder who they are aye? We’ll ask the aldeanos when we arrive.”
The two were surprised when they saw that most of the villagers were not outside when they rode into the village center. Panchito guided Señor Martinez to a trough filled with water and walked into the bar. He found several villagers inside having a drink.
“Hola Señora!” Panchito greeted as he pulled up a chair to a pretty dog.
“What was up with the fancy plane?”
The woman smiled sadly at Panchito.
“It was a group of travelers that just left. They wanted to find a treasure that is in a nearby temple, even though we warned them that many adventurers have been lost in their journey. It seems the same consequence beheld them.”
Panchito took his sombrero off his head and held it to his chest.
“Aye, it is a sad day indeed to lose an amigo. Tan triste de hecho.”
“I’m sure it sounds horrible but I sort of expected it. It was a duck that was dressed in a black sailor suit and sailor hat. The Ahuizotl is known to take sailors and fishermen.”
Panchito froze at the description.
No, I’m being dramático. Just because it sounds like Donaldo doesn’t mean it is.
“Can you tell me what the travelers looked like?”
The woman could tell that something was wrong since Panchito’s tone changed.
“… There was a tall pato wearing a pilot’s suit, an older pato with a thick accent wearing a top hat and holding a cane, three pequeño patos wearing red, blue, and green, and una pequeña pato wearing a purple and pink blouse and skirt. The one that never returned had the worst temperamento.”
Panchito quickly placed the hat on his head.
“The one that went missing, that is one of mi mejores amigos! I have to go look for him! Where is the temple?!”
The woman got up from her seat.
“I’ll show you where to go, but first you’re gonna need some supplies.

Adventures in Hong Kong: Day 3 - Disneyland
DAY 3: October 29, 2018
Third day in Hong Kong was spent in the happiest place on Earth, Disneyland! This was on the top on my list that I’ve been looking forward to visit since I was a child. Who wouldn’t be excited to experience a magical day in this place, right?
I’ve been a Disney girl ever since I can remember watching cartoons. I love each and every movies, and shows that Disney created, especially when a Disney princess was included.
Visiting Disneyland made my inner child out again and explore the magical world of Disney. That inner child where you weren’t scared to try new things, curious about everything, and is brave enough to make it happen.
We rode the MTR going to Disneyland since it was convenient, fast, and cheaper.
To go to there, take the Tsuen Wan Line (Red Line) to Lai King station, get off the train, and change train at Lai King Platform 3 towards Tung Chung (Orange Line). Get off at Sunny Bay Station and interchange at Sunny Bay Platform 3 towards Disneyland, then board the train to Disneyland Resort (Pink Line), and get off at Disneyland Resort station. Afterwards, just walk towards the Disneyland entrance.
The train especially for going to Disneyland was so cuuute! Everything was shaped like Mickey, it’s like spot the hidden Mickey.. except it isn’t hidden! 😅 🤣 Also, the seats were comfy since it was like those car seats.
I’ll be sharing the photos I took during my trip there, so better expect that this post will be photo-heavy, meaning a lot of photos coming up! It will be like a virtual tour of HK Disneyland. Some photos are put together to lessen the photos, but some weren’t since I feel it is better to have it with its original size. On top of that, I’ll post my vlog below about Disneyland for you to further see what happens in the park.
Here’s what you will see upon getting of the Disneyland Resort station, a welcoming sign to Disneyland.
After a walking a few minutes, you would be greeted a fountain with Mickey on top! The Mickey statue was actually going up and down, like surfing on the top of the Whale.
We bought our tickets via Klook again. Our experience with Klook was great. We just exchanged the vouchers for the tickets, and went inside. No need to fall in line just to get in.
Decorations during this time was for Halloween since it was October. The theme was Nightmare Before Christmas.
Pumpkins everywhere! 🎃
Denim Jacket: Forever 21 Shades: Sorrento
Of course, a photo with any Mickey on it was a must during the Disneyland trip!
I love what was written above, “Here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy.” It just like telling to leave the present for now, and enjoy a world full of magic for now.
Pictures below were taken at the Main Street.
Each store has Disney memorabilia and souvenirs you can purchase.
We were able to witness a band playing. During that time, it feels that I was indeed in another world and away from reality.
The bakery was so lovable and aesthetics was really really good! Good job Disney, this kid at heart was very happy!
Desserts looks so appetizing and yummy but at the same time, feels like I can’t eat it because it was just so cute!
Tried the Chicken & Mushroom Pie & the Lava Cheese Tart and both were so mouthwatering.
◼️ IRON MAN EXPERIENCE
First on the list to try was the Iron Man Experience!
Starkvision a.k.a. 3D glasses were for pick-up before entering the ride itself. There were different stations/rooms that can cater the visitors for the ride. The ride was about “us” and Iron Man saving the city.
This ride was one of the best rides ever! It was 4D and really in sink with the one showing that you can literally feel like you were in it! I can’t really describe it that well, so better try to visit HK Disneyland to be able to experience it.
◼️ STAR WARDS: HYPERSPACE MOUNTAIN
The scaredy cat in me got away once I stepped foot in Disney and was able, for the first time, rode a roller coaster! I am really scared in riding one but for the sake that I was in Disney and that this was a Star Wars themed ride, I bet on life and tried this one.
Ride was also amazing, I was actually closing my eyes at times because it was just soooo fast as if I’ll fly away from my seat. 🤣 I loved the effects that made me feel I was one of the Jedi fighting against evil. Hands down again, Disney!
One of the food halls in the park.
◼️ TOY STORY LAND
On our way to another ride, I saw this and know we were near the Tory Story land. (and also we can hear music and Woody’s “Yee-haw! Giddy-up partner!” 🤣)
And there’s Woody!
Life-sized toy alphabet and Mr. Potato Head!
Toy Story land made me feel like so small like a toy! So this how Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Rex and the rest of the toys feel like. 🤣
This part was so wonderful having life-sized Toy Story designs and this was my favorite theme in the park.
That’s how big the toys are!
Top: Zara Shorts: Forever 21 Shoes: Nike
Since it was Halloween season, Sid’s toy was in the land, Babyface/Spider Baby! It was so realistic and creepy at the same time.
◼️ IT’S A SMALL WORLD
The ride with all those dolls! 🎎
The dolls were just so cute! 😍
The Philippines!
I was just a little surprised that the Tarsier was big. 😅 Also, I just found out during that time that there’s a Filipino/Tagalog version of “It’s A Small World.” 😅
This part was just so girly and pastel-ly!
Can you spot “Paalam?”
After riding this, I can’t get the song, “It’s A Small World” out of my mind! I keep on singing it on repeat the whole day. 😂
◼️ MICKEY’S PHILHAR MAGIC
Sorry that this one’s dark. I took it at night while on our way to the Night Parade because I later realized I don’t have a photo of the entrance signage.
PhilharMagic is a 3D show that shows magic and fantasy of an orchestra including the instruments, Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, and more! The visuals, and sounds were actually very believable that I felt that it was really happening in the place.
◼️ JUNGLE RIVER CRUISE
Here, you will have a tour guide for the whole Jungle Cruise. The lines were sorted according to what language you prefer: Chinese or English. The lines was a little long that took us about 30 - 45minutes until it was our turn.
Effects were so good that feels like it was real and will be able to attack me. Again, Disney, you are always on point! 👊
The whole ride took us about 15-20 minutes long.
We claimed our free pop corns which was included in the Klook voucher. Flavors were caramel and BBQ/Buffalo, I think. I like the caramel more than the other flavor.
Next stop was the Grizzly Gulch.
◼️ GRIZZLY GULCH
Grizzly Gulch made me forget for a second that I was in Disneyland since everything just makes you believe that you are in another place. It made me feel I was in a movie with a Western themed film.
There were even performers dancing and singing - makes everything more believable.
My very own ”WANTED” sign. 🔒
◼️ JOURNEY TO HALLOWEEN TOWN
This was the attraction that took us the longest to get our turn. I think it took us about an hour or more and when it was our turn, a little technical happened which took another 15 minutes of waiting time.
Sally is so pretty and exactly looks like the cartoon.
This attraction was actually not a ride but a live action story telling. The only thing disappointing was that the other parts were spoken in Chinese rather than in English. I know we were in Hong Kong but I would truly appreciate if it was spoken in English since it is Disney after all.
More pumpkins! 🎃
Witty sign before exiting the attraction, “Come Back Soon! We’re always dying to see you!”
Night’s approaching and the last ride we tried was the Mystic Point.
◼️ MYSTIC POINT
The facade of the Mystic Point attraction.
Another ride that I enjoyed - a trackless ride! It seems simple as you enter but during the ride, all I can say was that “Wow!” I loved how they incorporate the 4D experience while in a trackless ride. You can feel the wind, splatters of water, hear everything clearly, and more. If I’ll comeback to Disneyland, I’ll ride this one again.
◼️ DISNEY NIGHT PARADE
Villains were on the spotlight for Halloween’s Disney Night Parade, since it was Halloween after all. There were no sight of Mickey, Goofy, Minnie, and etc. All were the different villains from the Disney stories.
Below are just photos I got during nighttime in Disneyland.
I’m currently missing Disneyland while writing this blog post. I will surely be back to the magical world of Disney! Truly a place where I can say, I will always be a kid at heart because of Disney.
HONG KONG ITINERARY FOR DAY 3

*Not sponsored by Klook. Friends and relatives suggested trying Klook to have a less hassle vacation in another country. Experience with it was good and was able to skip the long lines because of booking with them. Paid Klook through an OTC bank since some says there were additional fees when credit card was used.

Just in time for the inauguration, or, more accurately, doomsday, comes Battle Hymns, a record specifically designed to rally your spirits during these turbulent times. As plainly stated on the compilation’s website: “It is a protest record!” So play it loud.
Battle Hymns is available through Quasi’s website, quasiband.com, and the band not only contributes a track, the group’s core members, Sam Coomes and Janet Weiss, also turn up on a number of the other tracks as backing players. The roster of other participating musicians reads like a who’s who of NW indie rock: Carrie Brownstein, Corin Tucker, Stephen Malkmus, Rebecca Gates, Scott McCaughey, and Doug Martsch, among others.
Things get off to a forthright start with the self-explanatory “We Won’t Go Back” by Love Always — the Thermals’ Kathy Foster, who handles all instrument and vocal chores, proudly declaiming, “We fight the hate, the lies/We won’t go back” over a powerful (and fuzzy) musical backing. Mary Timony’s “Fight the Hate” is in a similar vein, a simple statement wedded to a tough rock beat.
But a number of tracks, unsurprisingly, evince a darker humor. The best in this regard is Quasi’s creepy “Ballad of Donald Duck & Elmer Fudd,” an allegorical parable narrated with sinister coolness by Coomes. Elsewhere, Mac McCaughan tries to find a silver lining in the poppy “Happy New Year (Prince Can’t Die Again),” but the best he can do is assert that well, at least we won’t have to live through the horrors of 2016 again (Martsch’s ghostly, aptly titled, “Fuck 2016” expresses a similar sentiment). And “No More Fizz,” by MEDS (Carrie Brownstein and Katie Harkin) presents a stripped-down, sharp shock of a litany of what perils may await us; not only the absence of essentials like electricity and sex, but “No more punctuation” and “No more mathematics,” which, given the increasing disparagement of science and education, doesn’t seem entirely far-fetched. “I’m just waitin’ to feel love,” Brownstein sings hopefully during the chorus. Don’t hold your breath.
But the answer might be provided by “Love in the Time of Resistance” by the wonderfully named Filthy Friends (Tucker, McCaughey, Bill Rieflin, Kurt Bloch, and Peter Buck). Its sound is mournful and a bit dissonant (rather like a Sleater-Kinney track), but it’s a song that also refuses to concede defeat: “Can’t go back, we must move on … Can’t let hatred rule.” There’s an urgency in Tucker’s voice, pleading with you to not give into despair. Let this album provide the soundtrack to your own form of resistance. Even buying it makes a difference; the album, available as a download, is a pay-what-you-want release, and all proceeds are earmarked for Planned Parenthood, the ACLU, and 350.org.

IN THE LAND OF THE FREE
The land of the free. Our land. A problem. Freedom is being lost. Temporarily. The protesters across the nation are saving it. We will remain the land of the free.
I have to admit however I was concerned for a while.
Our government has become the bad guys. Especially the police. They killed one black person too many. Now the pendulum is swinging.
“Kettling” is a process which provokes violence by trapping protesters in a fight or flight type situation. “Trapping” significant. An example being driven down a narrow street where at the other end more police are waiting.
At that point the protesters are gassed, pepper sprayed, beaten with batons, and then arrested.
Not all atrocities are reported. There are too many. I want to share 2 situations which recently occurred in Los Angeles.
A homeless man wheel chair bound. He was out past curfew. However he had nothing to do with the protest. In any fashion. The police shot him in the head with a rubber bullet.
The homeless person slumped in his wheel chair. He was bleeding profusely from his head.
I have seen enough photos the past 2 weeks to realize rubber bullets are not kid toys. They are capable of serious damage.
The other situation a “drive-by shooting” by the police.
Past curfew again. A 7 pm curfew. A bunch of teenagers were quietly walking on a side street on their way home. They were in their own neighborhood.
A Deputy Sheriff was driving by. He leaned out the car window in a “drive-by” fashion. He opened fire on the kids on the sidewalk. Pepper balls and rubber bullets.
Mitt Romney exhibited his independence once again last night. Sleeves rolled up, he marched with the demonstrators in Washington.
Donald lives in another world. He sees what he wants to see. Nothing more.
He is taking credit for the peaceful protests.
He is lucky no one has been killed. The black steel fence would not have stopped the protesters.
Coronavirus deaths now exceed 110,000. Trump takes no credit for any part of them.
Something about the Greek people. Coronavirus hit them. Their number of confirmed cases and deaths relatively small. The reason being the Greek people listened to their government. Who in turn had listened to the scientists.
Mykonos is a busy beautiful island. I have visited a few times. Night life beyond conception. Narrow streets. Every building a bar or restaurant on the first floor. People everywhere.
Note again the Greek people pay attention. It was reported this past week that a Mykonos bar was fined $20,000 for failing to social distance. Can you see that happening in the U.S.?
Remember Looney Tunes Cartoons? Age may play a part in whether you recall. At 84, I distinctly remember watching Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and Elmer Fudd every saturday at the movies.
The saturday movie bit began when I was 4. Neighborhood movie houses were packed with kids watching the movies and yelling and screaming. Two movies. One a cowboy flick. A serial. And a Looney Tunes Cartoon.
The admission $.04. Hard to believe! Many years ago. 1939-1940.
HBO brought back Looney Tunes this past week. The characters the same. However “liberalized” to some extent. For example, Elmer Fudd who was always chasing and shooting at Bugs Bunny will no longer have a gun. Substituted for the gun a scythe. HBO views it as a “liberal alteration.”
A lot of big companies cutting back or filing for bankruptcy. It’s the times. Coronavirus the primary reason.
BP Oil announced it is cutting 10,000 jobs. Fifteen percent of its work force.
BP offered 2 reasons. Coronavirus, of course. Fewer persons driving. Less gasoline being sold.
The other is BP’s plans to shift oil and gas majors to renewable energy. BP’s capitulation in this regard is admirable. Major companies are reluctant to change the nature of their businesses. BP has seen the light of day.
My good friends Fran and Tom Dixon are visiting from Buffalo. They have been here since June 1. I have not seen them. Told them before they came I planned on remaining quarantined. Told them also they were crazy to come yet. Coronavirus still with us.
Though younger than me, both are senior citizens. Braver than Louis. They are here. Called yesterday. I did not hear the phone ringing. Tom left a message. Know you refuse to come out, we miss you, etc.
I miss them, also. Two of the best people I have met in my years in Key West. Tom owns a piece of the Ocean Key House. They visit 3-4 times a year.
Next time!
Masks required in Key West? They were till thursday. The Monroe County Commission voted masks were “recommended,” not “required.” A stupid move I thought. The vote was 3-2.
Friday Key West ruled on the issue. Rather than follow Monroe County’s decision, Key West Mayor Johnston issued a ruling that masks must be worn, except when drinking or eating.
Good for her!
Key West experienced its first reopening weekend this past one. I am curious to see what the coronavirus numbers will be for Key West 4-6 weeks from now.
Enjoy your day!
