#kaoru this one's really on you

Hey there Flower! I hope all is well with you and that you’re having a wonderful day💜 I wanted to send in an ask because I recently had this realization and did some research and found out that the act of crying is a “uniquely human trait”. This got me thinking if the galra cry too? Let me explain a bit, so as far as I know other animals are capable of shedding tears but it’s not an emotional response so much as there might be something wrong/in their eyes.

We’ve seen that alteans can cry! But I wonder about the galra because I don’t believe we’ve seen any of them cry (not even Krolia).

I wasn’t sure if you’ve been asked this before or not and I tried my best looking to see if you have but the only post I saw relating was about the differences in galra/human anatomy and it did mention their eyes!

So with this information…can galra cry as an emotional response? If they can’t, what’s their reaction to humans doing it?

(Also please correct me if I’m wrong for any of the statements I made! I’m also aware that you’ve mentioned before that we will be seeing “Lotor tears” in the future of LB but we could say that he’s able to cry because of his altean half?)

Secondly, while I was aware than humans are the only known organism that cry from emotion, and we do indeed know that Alteans can cry as proven by s1ep09, I hadn't really considered whether or not the galra are a species were in the same boat,,, only that Lotor himself has to be because not only did I have him become teary-eyed in the most recent chapter—

“Is that enough?” the question scrapes ragged and ruinous against the silence that surrounds them. “Truthfully,” the prince admits, “I do not know.” and, with a start, Keith realises that summer-sky eyes are near as glassy as his own, “Though, if anything is to be your downfall, would you not rather it be love?” - Little Blade, chapter 24

—but I have Plans™ for his future that demand it.

That being said, when I think about it, it really doesn't make an awful lot of sense for the galra to cry from emotion due to Daibazaal having been such an arid planet that any unnecessary loss of fluid would have been a distinct evolutionary weakness for them, and so would likely have been evolved out (if ever it was something they were capable of in the first place). This, of course, begs the question: what displays of sorrow/emotional distress do the galra have?

As a direct result of this ask, I've once again expanded upon my galra body language post, adding to the "bad noises" bullet point:

Though they cannot cry tears as humans do, the galra expression of grief is—according to those who've heard it—one of the most harrowing sounds in the known universe; the drehvi is a distinctly mournful vocalisation unique to the galra people, taking the form of a raw, guttural, bellowing wail that stems from deep within the chest cavity and can be heard from up to half a league away.

If you can imagine the noise a bear might make upon suffering a sudden but mortal wound, and that sound echoing across an otherwise silent valley devoid of all life,,, that would be the drehvi.

So........... on that not-at-all-heartbreaking note, you also asked for the galra reaction to humans crying, which I am going to keep much lighter (because I am internally weeping now goddammit) so I'd have to say it's likely a mixture of confused and alarmed, because the human is,,, leaking?? Are humans supposed to do that?? Their breathing has also become remarkably erratic and hiccupy which is almost certainly Not Good if they do not regulate their oxygen intake they will DIE because humans are SMALL and FRAGILE, but they are also not currently in a state to explain themselves nor how to help??

(my quick thoughts on the shows below the line)

I went to both Paris shows (VIP on day 1) and it was hands down the best experience of my life so far. So amazing beyond words. To not only meet my favourite band of all-time in the flesh, but to also watch them perform from the front row on the 1st day (and still very close to the stage on day 2) felt so surreal. Seeing them perform some of my favourite songs of all-time (including dead tree, my number 1 favourite song) was so overwhelmingly amazing I cried multiple times. I got acknowledgments from Die, Toshiya, and Kyo for screaming so loudly every time they came to our side of the stage, and I can't describe how affirming it felt. Since yall follow me on here, you know how much this band means to me, and especially Kyo. This man is my biggest inspiration in regards to both his music and his artistic self-expression. I've never been so inspired by a musician before; I've never been this obsessed with a band before. This was a dream come true, one that I never thought could happen. Thank you so much to this most incredible band. No band will ever come close for me.

The Hikaru and Karou brain rot never ends

Anyways here's some hikaru head cannons (I'll do a Karou one later I just have hikaru brainrot rn)

OH ALSO this is spoilers for the manga so be warned :3

-Hikaru has dyed his hair 3 different colors, black blond and orange/brown!

- to help with his anger issues he got into playing music! His fav instruments are bass and drums. And bc they're rich he has a whole ass music studio 💀

- attempted to have a concert night as a special host club party but it went horribly (no one knows how to play instruments except for him and Tamaki)

- sometimes he has really bad episodes where he wishes he still looked exactly the same as Karou and wishes they were "one" once again

- one time he glued a coin to the floor and asked Tamaki to pick it up (Tamaki was there all night )

- is always listening to music like all the time. He is the definition of "oh no he can't hear us he's got his air pods in!"

when i first heard that kageki shoujo was a bimonthly manga i thought damn. that kinda sucks. you're bound to forget a lot of stuff if the updates are so far away. but, as it turns out, i think it's actually the best format for the story. because it then allows kumiko saiki to do a very crucial thing: include one special extra chapter to every other volume, that happens somewhat outside of the main storyline, and gives you more context on the secondary characters. and it is imo one of the best aspects about this manga without a doubt. the way even minor side characters get a thought-out backstory and their own private lives outside of what sarasa and ai might be doing gives this manga an extra layer of depth that makes its world feel so much more alive

Miki and Kozue: Two ends of different spectrums?

So a rewatch ago I had an idea about the Kaoru's that I haven't really seen brought up and I'd be curious to see if anyone might agree.

I've started reading Miki as ace and Kozue as aro, with Kozue being sex positive and Miki being sex repulsed.

Kozue is never shown to ever hold romantic feelings for anyone. She loves her brother and maybe her friends, but that's platonic/filial love. Now, because it's Utena, you could read her feelings towards her brother as romantic, that she is jealous of anyone who steals his attention away from her, but I have a hard time believing someone who is desperate for their brother's affection would go out of their way to repulse him like Kozue does. Her moments of jealousy aren't even really there. If anything Kozue just worries about Miki and is curious about his sudden passion/romantic interest in Anthy. The only time she goes out of her way to negate a supposedly 'romantic' relationship for her brother is when that teacher was groping Miki, which is honestly a situation where she was completely in the right to push that scum down a flight of endless stairs.

To put it simply, Kozue's misunderstanding or lack of knowledge when it comes to romantic love leads her to believe that-once Miki finds a romantic partner-she will no longer have a place in his life.

With Miki it's difficult to judge if he is actually ace, but he definitely has a negative opinion of sex and doesn't seem to equate sensuality to romance. Miki's most 'exposed' when he's playing piano, his playing is how other characters judge his state of mind. It's a reflection of his heart and to him there is nothing more intimate. Miki's problems come when he tries to emulate characters like Touga and Akio, two characters known for their 'proclivities' with others, and he tends to fail whenever he isn't being himself. Juri for one is all for Miki getting out of his head and putting some stock into just being, he does well when not forcing himself to use sex like Touga or Akio. His love for Anthy doesn't stem from her appearance, but her piano ability and given how music is Miki's way of expressing himself it makes sense for him to love the person whose song seems to match his own. His longing for the sunlit garden, for when Kozue played with him, is built on the misunderstanding that his sister was actually able to play the song that expressed how Miki felt.

Miki doesn't see/understand the need for a physical connection with people, as what it more intimate than bearing your mind? Kozue's sexual proclivities confound him, frustrate him, as what's the point of physically expressing a relationship? Miki only sees people like Touga use sex as a way to lay claim unto others, namely women, so from his perspective he would just see Kozue being controlling or controlled. Perhaps even seeing her insistence on being a 'wild animal' her way of rebelling against this perceived yoke of intimacy he sees her in.

Uhhhh so. I like. AUs. Especially. When they involve… creatures (putting under a cut).

In my mind a Kaoru merperson au would be like. Taking cues from the little mermaid, his mom used to be a mermaid but through um. Mermaid magic she turned human (I was thinking maybe falling in love with a human gives you the choice to turn human or turn the human into a merm)? Anyway! She becomes a marine biologist bc she still likes the ocean ofc.

Then she has her children. Due to some fuckery, Kaoru either wasn’t entirely human from the start (maybe some scales, maybe can stay underwater for longer, attraction to the ocean, idk) or down the line he starts being not entirely human. Maybe the fact he’s a surfer, and since he likes the beach and stays around it a lot, it leads to that part of him to surface somehow. Something something something I’m making things up. All of this is basically meant to serve the idea of kaoru having a Very Bad Time when on like. Idk. His 18th, 20th, whatever, birthday he Magically Changes for the first time (or maybe just some random day out of nowhere lol). I watched a lot of H2O as a kid so if he gets wet, he’s got a tail, if he’s dry, he doesn’t.

Cue a lot of shenanigans with trying to hide it, getting discovered, Kanata inexplicably knowing about it.

Meanwhile, since this AU runs on the idea of supernatural creatures being real, Rei and Ritsu are Real Actual Vampires. (There’s a thing I’ve been playing with where the Sakumas either turn into full vampires when they get older/symptoms worsen or they remain human with the continuing symptoms they already had. It’s just kind of random which one happens to you. I think it would be funny for Rei to have been pulling the vampire act this entire time only for one day to actually Be a Vampire and he just goes “oh shit”).
