On 28 December, the Roman Curia (Vatican) announced Luce, the official mascot for the Holy Year (24 December this year - 6 January 2026), which grants special forgiveness to Catholics and others for their mistakes. The Vatican plans to utilise the mascot for the 25th Osaka-Kansai Expo, where the Vatican will be exhibiting, and hoped that it would become a symbol of both the Holy Year and the Expo. The mascot is based on the motif of a pilgrim girl, in the style of an anime character. Luce’ means “light” in Italian and was created by designer Simone Legno. She wears a mackintosh and gloves, essentials for pilgrims. She also depicted boots soiled by the long journey.

Organizers in the Kansai region held a demonstration and petition against israel’s participation in the upcoming World Expo, slated to take place in Osaka next year.
Today, I went to the Expo [2025] Association office in Yodoyabashi to request the cancellation of Israel's participation. Despite prior notice, the office was deserted. I caught a glimpse of a typical example of tax money being wasted on the Expo office, which is rarely used. An Expo with Israeli participation, which continues to massacre 16,000 children, is a "negative Expo."

what I actually wanted from akudrive's exposition is their worldbuilding lore, specifically how "japan's civil war" started and gone.
Tumblr media
Like hear me out, akudrive has so much potential on revealing their post manmade apocalyptic dystopia setting but we never really get a full-on lore on what actually happened during the war, so I tried to make assumptions based what we've get so far until the manga's ending.
rest in under the cut because it has war mentions, also spoiler alert for the shikoku chapter of the manga!
it's shown several times that "far future" Japan has divided its cities by prefectures, so it's not called as cities anymore like Tokyo or Osaka etc, it's now called Kanto and Kansai, and perhaps the same for the rest of the other prefectures, like Kyushu.
from now on I will refer the war with "civil war" because there's not much implication of whether if it's actually a civil war in Japan or a worldwide war (i'll get back to this later).
[MANGA SPOILERS] so, with the appearance of Professor/Doctor (idk the kanji is 博士 hakase, I'm gonna go with Professor) with the counter above her head that says "253" which is actually her age, she is said to be the survivor of the war. So, from this we can assume that the war happened about 200 years ago and the 53 might've been her age during the war period. She implied to guard the Ark which contained animals that gone extinct by the effects of the war.
And also, I can assume that technology has gone further in its development, so what if the participants of this "civil war" (specifically Kanto) has developed weapons that are more destructive than nuclear warheads? This is shown on Absolute Quarantine Zone (AQZ) being the center of the "war's hazardous residue", and we can all see that AQZ is a dome-like zone which contained very dangerous substances that can destroy everything, hence why shinkansen has the decontamination zone that actually disintegrate the organic being, which in use to bring people to Kanto. other than AQZ, the destructive remnants of the "civil war" can be seen on scenes like the ground above Expo Park and outside of Kansai surrounding AQZ, the moon, and also Shikoku [MANGA SPOILERS].
this "technology" that surpassed nuclear warheads might've also affected Kanto's space, making it some sort of a bubble dimension and ushers people of Kanto to transfer their memories into the supercomputer after the war.
Tumblr media
in other meanings, the shark and bunny show are for propaganda, telling the people pretty much everything BUT anything regarding Kanto and the war.
↑ this is from eps 2 btw, my guess is right then the "new type of bomb" is the weapon that surpasses nuclear warheads.
the shark and bunny show told that Kanto claimed victor of the war and helped Kansai to be rebuilt, and in exchange they would make sure they make a befitting "offering", which is later to be Brother and Sister who's immortal to become Kanto's next supercomputer, it's also shown during Boss' reporting to the "upper-ranks" of Kanto, even though Kansai stands on its own now Kanto still assume control over Kansai in a way.
Then what happened to the other prefecture cities in Japan?
Good question.
the only ones that's mentioned throughout the anime and manga is Kyushu, which now works as a factory plant city that produces everything of this world, and that's also where Brother and Sister were made. the other one is Shikoku which basically is an "unknown place" and "erased from the map", but Hacker managed to gather information about Shikoku, claiming that he got it from the literatures before the war period. other prefecture cities didn't even get mentioned at all, but assuming the scale of the war that even destroyed the moon, it might've been implied that the other prefecture cities are destroyed to the ground with little to no more evidence of its existence, so Japan is basically a dead land after the war.
tho survivors might exist and live on the barren lands after the war, but it's not as good as Kansai, hence why the city has walls built surrounding it and the only entrance to the outside is restricted (episode 12 director's cut, the scene where Courier drives out the city walls).
talking about the aftereffects of the war, it's implied that fresh produce are now rare to be found, only canned foods existed (anime episode 9), and perhaps this affected whole of Kansai's food distributions, even tho it's shown that they still have legit foods, we don't know what kind of thing Kyushu Plant used to make their foods (I assuming food produce are also made in Kyushu Plant).
[MANGA SPOILERS] about Shikoku, the war caused the land to be eradicated, leaving hugh bomb craters, and with the Ark is stored underground just like Expo Park, this can mean that the ones building the Expo Park and the Ark didn't want Kanto (the supposed preperator of the war) know about it, because they have vehicles that can transport them into space.
btw I assume Kanto is preperator of the war because it's where the capital city is located which the highest ranking leader of Japan reside.👁️👁️
speaking of leader, I still didn't grasp what is the form of Kansai's government. as far as I know the police chief and executioner department boss are the ones who were shown to give orders, so I kinda assume that Kansai is military-controlled?🤔🤔🤔
okay I thought too much. tell me what do you think of this, and I will come back if I remember/rewatch more of this.

Coming soon: Flying taxis at 2025 World Expo
Kyodo News | 22 February 2023
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ANA Holdings Inc., Japan Airlines Co. and three other companies have been selected to operate air taxi services during the 2025 World Exposition to be held in Osaka in western Japan, the event's organizer said Tuesday.
Japan wants the "flying cars" to be one of the main attractions at the expo, with the next-generation mobility expected to provide access to the event venue to be set up on an artificial island in Osaka Bay.
Tumblr media
ANA Holdings, the parent of All Nippon Airways Co., will partner with U.S. startup Joby Aviation Inc., a company in which Toyota Motor Corp. has a stake.
Other companies selected as operators are SkyDrive Inc., based in Aichi Prefecture, and trading firm Marubeni Corp.
Tumblr media
Naoki Okada, minister in charge of the World Expo 2025, said he hopes the technology will "surprise" people around the world.
He also called on the five companies to cooperate on demonstration flights prior to the start of the 184-day event.
The flying cars, which will carry two to five people each, will connect the three areas of the exposition venue on Yumeshima, central Osaka city, and nearby Kansai International Airport.
Their flight routes, landing and takeoff areas are to be determined.
Tumblr media
ANA Holdings will operate a five-seat vertical takeoff and landing aircraft developed by Joby Aviation.
In October, the California-based company applied for its aircraft design to be certified for use in Japan.
JAL will operate two-rider aircraft developed by German firm Volocopter GmbH, while Marubeni will operate five-seater aircraft created by Vertical Aerospace Group Ltd., a British company, after reserving in January delivery slots for 25 of them.
SkyDrive is looking to get a type certificate for its two-rider aircraft, still in development, before the exposition.
Meanwhile, the operator of the takeoff and landing sites at the exposition venue on Yumeshima will be Orix Corp., according to the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition.
The World Expo 2025 will last from April 13 through October 13 under the theme "Designing Future Society for Our Lives."
