American Association 2025 Season Highlights: May 8 Opening Night, All-Star Game, Expanded Playoffs
The American Association of Professional Baseball, North America's premier MLB Professional Partner League has released the 2025 regular season schedule.
The American Association's 100-game season will open on Thursday, May 8 with a pair of games featuring the Miles Wolff Cup Champion Kane County Cougars hosting the Sioux City Explorers and the Cleburne Railroaders hosting the Winnipeg Goldeyes. The remainder of the league will open play on Friday, May 9 with a full slate of six games.
All games in 2025 will be free for fans to view live on the league's streaming platform, American Association TV. In 2024, the league dropped the paywall for live games and saw viewership nearly double across all platforms. In addition to the league's streaming platform, in 2025 fans will be able to watch an expanded slate of games via Gray Media local and regional affiliates and nationally on Fubo Sports and other national carriers.
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks will host the American Association All-Star Game and festivities at Newman Outdoor Field on July 21-22, and the season will conclude with the league's traditional Labor Day games on September 1.
Following the 100-game regular season, the top four clubs in each division will vie for the Miles Wolff Cup starting September 3. In 2025, the Division Championship Series will expand to a best-of-five series. The playoffs will culminate with a best-of-five Wolff Cup Final series starting on September 15.
The American Association remains split into the East Division and West Division for the 2025 season. The East Division is comprised of the Chicago Dogs, Cleburne, Gary SouthShore RailCats, Kane County, Lake Country DockHounds and Milwaukee Milkmen. The West Division members are the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, Kansas City, Lincoln Saltdogs, Sioux City, Sioux Falls Canaries and Winnipeg.
"After another year of growth in terms of attendance and revenues across the league, we are looking forward to another tremendous schedule for our fans and clubs in 2025," said American Association Commissioner Joshua Schaub. "The American Association continues to stand out among MLB Professional Partner Leagues as the place for players and fans to enjoy America's Pastime in our beautiful facilities. For the second consecutive season, our league lead all MLB Partner Leagues in attendance. We can't wait to see everyone back at the ballpark in May."

Bark in the Park with Anderson Humane
The dog days of summer came to Kane County Cougar Stadium with their yearly Bark in the Park Event. Annually, Anderson Humane brings adoptable animals to enjoy a day at the ballpark while looking to find their perfect match for a forever home. Our team joined the animal shelter to provide giveaways to both park attendees, and even the team mascots! We were thrilled to be able to attend and meet furry friends on this day out with canine companions.

Ryan Burr Interview
Special Blog Interview Alert!
Below is my interview with Ryan Burr, reliever for the Chicago White Sox. It has great insight into Ryan's journey to the MLB and some detail about his experiences. Enjoy!
D.J.: I know you were drafted by the Rangers and then the Diamondbacks, but what did it feel like getting that call that you would be a professional baseball player?
Ryan: Getting drafted was one of the best feelings I’ve ever felt. Knowing that you are one step closer to realizing a dream you have had your whole life is an amazing and humbling experience.
D.J.: Which MLB player was your idol growing up?
Ryan: My favorite player growing up was actually a position player. Growing up in Colorado, I rooted for the Rockies and was the biggest Troy Tulowitzki fan out there. I played shortstop until I got to high school when I realized I wasn’t that good.
D.J.: Who was your favorite MLB team growing up?
Ryan: The home town Rockies.
D.J.: Which MLB pitcher would you say is your closest comparison as far as mechanics/release?
Ryan: I don’t really know, I have heard a couple different comparisons. Greg Holland has come up a few times. That’s a career I would love to match.
D.J.: What’s your go to pitch?
Ryan: More than likely I am going to come at you with the pitch that got me to the big leagues which is my fastball.
D.J: How was it playing in Kane County? I’m from about 30 minutes east of there, so I went to games as a kid.
Ryan: I played in Kane County for parts of three seasons, I would say that it was one of my favorite stops along the way. I loved the people at the ball park, great fans, great host families and I was surrounded by players that were drafted the same year as me. This all created an environment that made it fun to come to the field every day. However, spending parts of 3 seasons in low a can be very frustrating, and it was. But it made me the player I am today.
D.J.: What ran through your head in your first MLB appearance?
Ryan: I honestly just tried to be as calm as possible and tried to not over think the situation which was very difficult. You think about that moment your whole life up to that point. It exceeded any expectations I had by a long shot. I was given advice by some of my coaches and teammates which was to try and take it all in, because you only make your debut once. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience especially being able to share that moment with my parents and some of my best friends.
D.J.: How does it feel being a potential bullpen centerpiece of an MLB team’s future for the next 5-10 years?
Ryan: Potential doesn’t get you anywhere, I’m focused on trying to do what I can to help the team win this year. The rest will take care of itself.
D.J.: How exhausted are you of the Hamilton and Burr jokes? Man, I don’t have either last name but I couldn’t imagine, especially given the recent broadway play haha.
Ryan: To be honest, it doesn’t really bother me. If something brings attention to the game from people and places that aren’t traditionally baseball related, it can only be good for the game and for us.
D.J.: What’s your favorite MLB park? My buddies and I go to a different stadium each year. I know you’re from Colorado. Coors is up there for me. Love the background scenery with the mountains.
Ryan: Coors Field is definitely in my top 3. Kaufman stadium in Kansas City was actually my favorite stadium I played in, in my short time in the big leagues. Beautiful stadium, good fans, and really good food. A packed yankee stadium is like nothing else I’ve ever seen in baseball though.
D.J.: Is there a lot of positivity around the team knowing the White Sox will be adding some savvy veterans this offseason?
Ryan: I think there is a huge positivity around the organization. Everyone knows where we are headed with the amount of young talent we have. Adding some veteran leadership will definitely help us younger guys grow into our own and help push the Sox over the edge.
D.J.: How would you grade your 2018 season?
Ryan: 2018 had a lot of ups and Downs. I am proud that I was able to weather the storm of middle summer slumps, and see my goal of the big leagues come back to life. If you told me in the middle of May when my ERA was closer to my age then to zero, that I would be making my big league debut a few short months later, I would never believe you. But that’s the game of baseball. It was great for me to experience success, but the failure is what re lit the fire for me and helped to propel me forward.
D.J.: What’s your expectation for the 2019 season and the future?
Ryan: I expect myself to work as hard as I can and to put myself in the best position for success. Everything else is out of my hands and I won’t focus on it. I do expect the upward trajectory of our organization to continue on that path, and I am excited to be a part of it.
D.J.: Have you been to Little Miss BBQ? I know you went to ASU. This is without a doubt the best bbq place I’ve been to (went there while I was in the area for spring training)
Ryan: I’m a big fan of Little Miss BBQ! If you’re ever in Tempe, let me know, I will point you in the right direction when it comes to food!
Thank you to Ryan for his time. We look forward to seeing him play this 2019 season!

Records Fall, Community News: Ten Things to Know in the American Association This Week
MOORHEAD, Minn., August 15, 2024 – The American Association of Professional Baseball (@AA_Baseball) season edges towards the playoffs, beginning Sept. 4. All AAPB games are available for free live viewing at aabaseball.tv.
Here are 10 (or so) Things to Know about the AAPB this week:
There are 19 dates left on the AAPB schedule and the playoffs, in which the top four clubs in each division will vie for the Miles Wolff Cup starting September 4. The regular season East and West Division champions will pick their first-round Division Series opponent among the other three playoff teams in their division. The Wolff Cup Final will begin September 14. In the East, the Cleburne Railroaders hold a three-game lead over Kane County for the top spot, while the fourth-place Lake Country Dockhounds are 1 ½ games ahead of the local rival Milwaukee Milkmen for the fourth and final playoff spot, a season-ending four-game series in Oconomowoc probably determining the berth. In the West, seven games separate first place Sioux Falls/Winnipeg and fourth place Kansas City, with Sioux City trying to keep pace, now just three games back of the Monarchs.
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks held "DUI Enforcement All-Stars Night" on Tuesday at Newman Outdoor Field, partnering with the North Dakota Association of Counties/Vision Zero. The team honored 21 law enforcement officers from across eastern North Dakota for their outstanding efforts in 2023 in pulling impaired drivers off the state's roads. It drew a big crowd of more than 3,100, with many family and friends in attendance.
The RedHawks were also busy in other community endeavors, teaming with The Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND) Caring Foundation alongside the Bismarck Larks, Minot Hot Tots and Badlands Big Sticks on a $22,900 donation to Nexus-PATH Family Healing, a nonprofit serving North Dakota families and youth struggling with emotional and behavioral health challenges. The donation was based on strikeouts accumulated by the teams' pitchers over 62 games.
The Kansas City Star posted this piece on the Monarchs duo of Ross Adolph and Connor Curlis, natives of Findlay and Lima, Ohio, respectively, who reunited on the team after having competed against each other since their preteen years. Their unlikely and surprising reunion is chronicled in the piece.
Adopt A Minor Leaguer, a grassroots program that helps support players chasing their big league dreams, is running a fundraiser in support of the Sioux City Explorers for equipment they lost in the bus fire on August 2. At press time, they have raised more than $1700, with a goal of $2000 by Friday.
Kane County entertained their largest crowd of the season last Thursday, rallying for an exciting 9-7 win over Milwaukee in front of an announced attendance of 8,786 at Northwestern Medicine Field. “Outer Banks Night” made it an even more festive evening for fans.
The Cougars proved to be a road draw the next night when they visited the Gary SouthShore RailCats. A sellout crowd of 6,244 watched the home team take an exciting 3-2 win in what Gary SouthShore Assistant Coach Jason Carbonneau appropriately termed a “playoff-like atmosphere” while Manager Lamarr Rogers noted that "[t]he fans were electric, and the stadium was jumping with excitement and energy all game long."
The career record for the most stolen bases in Sioux Falls Canaries history now belongs to Wyatt Ulrich (Baudette, Minn.). The outfielder now has 77 thefts after swiping his 15th of the season on Saturday vs. Milwaukee, earning a spot on the local Dakota News Now Plays of the Week. In 301 games over four years with the Canaries, Ulrich is batting .301 with 229 runs scored and 53 doubles.
On Monday, the Chicago Dogs’ Joey Marciano (Carbondale, Ill.) set the team single season saves mark with his 19th in a 6-4 win over Kane County. His baseball journey was chronicled in the Chicago Sun Times, highlighting the fact that he ddn't play baseball at all until joining the Clemente High School squad and going on to play at SIU Carbondale.
On August 7, three members of the Lake Country DockHounds didn't just save a baseball game-they potentially saved a man's life as well. Players Marek Chlup (Turnuv, Czech Republic) and Demetrius Sims (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and broadcaster Dominic Stearn were sightseeing in Sioux Falls, S.D. when they came upon the scene of a horrific accident between a bicyclist and pedestrian. They sprung into action, each taking a task to assist the stricken victims. Read more here.
A Sioux Falls area native got a call to the Majors, in a way, as Janice Gilbert, a teacher at Tea Area HS, just southwest of the city, sang "God Bless America" on Sunday at Minnesota's Target Field. Gilbert, a country artist, has sung the National Anthem at Canaries games as well as other area and national arenas. ESPN Sioux Falls had the story.
Last week we reported that Taylor Swift fans had another reason to cheer on the Kansas City Monarchs in Style, with a theme night on Saturday rebranding the club the Kansas Swiftie Monarchs. Let’s just say fans know All Too Well that it was a Love Story, and though the Lincoln Saltdogs played the Anti-Hero, beating the home team, 5-4, Kansas City was able to Shake it Off and win, 2-1, on Sunday.
A hearty welcome home to Winnipeg to pitcher Mitchell Lambson (Tualatin, Ore.), who this week returned to the team for which the lefty saw some of his biggest professional success. Acquired from the Saraperos de Saltillo of the Mexican Baseball League, Lambson won an AAPB championship with the Goldeyes in 2017 and was named the league's Pitcher of the Year following the 2019 season, during which he went 13-4 with a 3.11 earned run average.
Some fun theme nights coming up:
Thursday, Pickleball Paddle Giveaway, Fargo-Moorhead
Friday, Backpack Giveaway, Chicago
Friday, American Girl Night, Kane County
Friday, Blues Brothers Night, Gary SouthShore
Saturday, Scout Night, Kansas City
Sunday, Clean Air Day, Gary SouthShore

MAJOR TREATS IN THE MINOR LEAGUE
MAJOR TREATS IN THE MINOR LEAGUE
Stu was in rare form all night.
(Four Winds Field) My good buddy Gary Gorka and I gladly traveled to Four Winds Field in South Bend, Indiana Friday evening to watch the South Bend Cubs suffer a 10-1 loss at the mighty bats of the Kane County Cougars. Too bad for the Single A Cubbies, but too good for us, because we got to watch some superb baseball in as perfect a setting as one could ask for. …
