Malawi’s May Days
Under the one-party State, May Day was not a public holiday nor could unions organise independent May Days.
So, the first May Day in independent Malawi was in 1994. Held at the Ryalls Hotel in Blantyre just two weeks before the first multiparty general elections, and 11 months after a referendum in favour of elections, it was organised by the Hotels and Food Workers Union. Held, however, at a luxury hotel, without publicity and in the wake of State repression of dissidents and strikers, the event was poorly attended.
May Day became an official public holiday in 1995 under the newly-elected United Democratic Front (UDF) government – which included Chihana as Second Vice-President.
That year, the Trade Union Congress of Malawi (TUCM) held a widely publicised series of May Day activities at Kamuzu Stadium and a peaceful march. The then minister of Labour, Ziliro Chibambo, was present, as were employer representatives. When the minister saluted workers’ contributions to the independence and democracy struggles, promising to defend workers, the mammoth crowd jubilantly ululated.
That same minister was, however, lambasted by the UDF government, after investors complained bitterly of his speech. By the 1996 May Day commemorations, a new minister of Labour was in office. And only from 2004 did the State President start attending May Day events.

While it's not finished I wanted to share this little doodle of my ocs Kamuzu (Left) and Aysoraun (right) getting into a scuffle. Kamuzu loves to get on Aysoraun's nerves, because his buttons are so easy to push lol. They hate each other, but they care about each other a lot.

Linker of The Golden Sovereign (Cookie Run Sugar Linkage)
Tumblr media
Natalia Jameel (Golden Cheese Cookie): “Tell me, is my company going the way I want it? And if so… how can I make it better?” (More Than Just Gold) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ [Gilded Cheese Fondue]
To celebrate the new update, I have decided to draw none other than Natalia Jameel- the linker of Golden Cheese Cookie! In her Linked form, that is. Here’s some facts about her:
She is the CEO of a company called Golden Moments Inc., which is located in Bakerton- that explains why she is so wealthy. And yes, she is a Legendary ranked Linker.
Her heritage is a mix of Arabic and Egyptian. She met her partner character, Golden Cheese Cookie while watering her mansion’s garden!
And during her arc in the main story, she’s tricked into hooking up her consciousness to a program called “Project OASIS (Overall Abundant Shining (and) Indomitably Supreme) City”. Needless to say, the gang needs to save her from the digital world before she falls too deep (Which is more or less a reference to the myth of Osiris, in which he was tricked into fitting inside of a sarcophagus in which his crazy brother Set then proceeded to lock him away).
Her favorite food is a Turkish cheese pastry called Kanafeh. She always makes enough for her friends and family to share!
She owns a scarlet macaw named Rouge, whom she rescued from a pet shelter. The bird’s a huge cuddle bug!
Her most treasured coworkers consist of her bodyguard Cyno Samir, Dalia Wasem, Vittoria Assad, and Kamuzu Hanania (They’ll become Linkers, but don’t tell anyone).
Her family consists of her husband Abdul, her daughter Cressida, and Son in law Orion + grandson Marco. Yes, she’s a grandma! And she’s a new one! (Thanks to @thetropicalfairy for helping!)
In Project Link Up All Stars, she would be best friends with ANY of the super rich linkers, especially the ones who are rich inside and out. Money can’t buy happiness, after all!
Her birthday falls on September 26, making her a Libra.
And her headcanon voice is Naomi Scott, who played the live action Jasmine in the Aladdin Remake.
Tumblr media
Here’s her civilian form, by the way. She’s rocking those glasses!
If there are anymore Linkers you want me to draw, just ask!

Meharry Medical College, founded in 1876 in Nashville, is the second oldest medical school for African Americans in the nation. The college was established by the Methodist Episcopal Church and the Freedman’s Aid Society when Samuel Meharry, a Scots-Irish immigrant salt trader who had been helped by a former enslaved family, gave a $15,000 donation in their honor. The Church and the Society used the donation to establish a program to provide medical training for former enslaved.
It functioned as the Medical Department of Central Tennessee College. The department had its first graduate in 1877 and the following year there were three graduates. In 1886 the Dental Department was founded followed in 1889 by the Pharmacy Department. In 1915 the Medical Department received a state charge and Meharry became an independent institution. Hubbard Hospital, named after George W. Hubbard, one of the first faculty members, was built in 1917.
In 1952 Dr. Harold D. West became the school’s first African American president. The campus expanded and another wing was added to Hubbard Hospital. The School of Nursing and the Division of Dental Technology were terminated, but improvements were made in the other schools. Meharry Medical College consists of the School of Medicine, the School of Dentistry, the School of Graduate Studies and Research, the School of Allied Health Professions, the George Russell Towers of Hubbard Hospital, two health care centers, and the Harold D. West Basic Sciences Center.
Meharry is a private not-for-profit, independent institution. It is the largest medical college in the nation dedicated primarily to educating Black healthcare professionals. Student enrollment is approximately 800, and although its students are from around the world, the vast majority are of African American descent. One of its most famous graduates, Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda, became the first president of the African nation of Malawi. Dr. David Satcher, Surgeon General was President of Meharry (1982-93).
More than 76% of its graduates practice in underserved communities and more than 60% of graduates enter the primary care field. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence #hbcu

FRESH MANNA
THE WICKED IN HIGH PLACES
Esther 3:1-15
There are wicked acts and wicked people in high places, using their authority and influence for bad things. Imagine how you’d feel to receive a couriered letter telling you that you and all your people (nationality, ethnicity, and race) have been sentenced to death, not for any crime committed but just for existence, an offence to certain groups of people.
Well, it’s happening in our world even right now, isn’t it? Take heart though, for according to Proverbs 24:19-20, their sentencing will come too.
Haman had everything a man in his position could ever desire but like a toddler, he wanted what he couldn’t have, Mordecai's respect and honour. What is one man’s homage compared to the whole kingdom bowing and scrapping after you? Arrogance plus pride will always equate to wickedness in high places!
Politicians the world over went into office promising to use their powers and positions for the good of humanity and their communities, unfortunately, some got in and realised that there is gain in doing the wrongs that appeal to people with deep pockets who would sponsor their cause and campaign but not according to Proverbs 25:26.
Haman is not the only rotten robin in the world to want to wipe out those he sees as a threat.
So many went into an office to execute their wicked plans against humanity, using their influence, authority and office to carry out wickedness in high places like Haman, genocide was the only way to quench Haman’s hatred of the Jews, just as it was for other wicked men, such as Idi Amin, whose brutality was both to his nation, Uganda, and the world at large. Hastings Kamuzu Banda of Malawi tortured and killed anyone, including children who dishonoured him.
Haman, after falsely pointing out to the king in verse 8, that the Jews do not acknowledge the king’s sovereignty, as he said “it is not in your majesty’s interest” that means there was no benefit to the king for letting the Jews live was Haman’s reason for wanting to exterminate the Jews but the irony is that Mordecai had already demonstrated the highest loyalty to the king.
Haman’s ten thousand talent of silver was a bribe, such an enormous amount surely will incite any king of wickedness and not be questioned.
Haman was truly desperate to get rid of the Jews to pay such a huge sum for the king’s permission to get the act passed.
His inducement worked, for we see him receive the king’s signet ring in verse 10, a wicked man with a vendetta now has the highest authority in his hands to carry out his plan with a royal edict.
So, a letter comes, not just to you but to everyone who looks, speaks, and acts like you, with the royal seal and edict, telling you of your impending destruction. The confusion would be epic.
Man of Steel, Joseph Stalin’s “Reign of Terror” saw millions of deaths, imprisonment, and relocation, according to him, “death is the solution to all problems”. No man — no problem,” and “One death is a tragedy; one million is a statistic. Appalling!
Saddam was a living nightmare for the Western world. He destroyed the lives of millions to achieve his evil deeds. Because the people of Bagdad did not honour him, like Haman, he destroyed the whole town, including women and children, the height of the wicked in high places.
God always steps in, as he did for the Jews, and as said in Psalm 141:10, the wicked fall in their pits. Abstain from wickedness! Wickedness does not pay!
PRAYER: Father, by your decree, deliver me from the hands of the wicked and all those who hate me, may they fall in their pits in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Shalom
