Because my brain is a slightly ridiculous place at the best of times, I now want an Imperial Radch/Necrons crossover. Ancillaries as a possible solution to biotransference?

Oltyx and Seivarden both getting reprimanded by Ship for swearing. Ship and Breq both looking at Oltyx and going "oh, she's just a baby lieutenant." Oltyx, meanwhile, (still using male pronouns, still a king) is too baffled and frustrated by the fact that Flayer claws can't get through Radchaai armor to even get mad about it.

Trazyn tries to add Mercy of Kalr to the Archives. ("And here we have the Republic of Two Systems Exhibit...") This backfires spectacularly, somehow, and now Sannet and Mercy of Kalr maintain an ongoing correspondence; Breq gets several lifetimes worth of new songs from the Archives.

Trazyn really wishes she would stop humming the song of Serenade around him, though- that's still a bit of a sore subject.

Sphene very happily provides Trazyn with an Anaander Mianaai for his exhibits.

Presger translators cannot digest necrodermis, but this does not stop Zeiat from trying, cheerfully and repeatedly. Trazyn tries to put her in a tesseract labyrinth and she just walks back in through the front door a la that one Simpsons gif.

Kalr 5 serves Zahndrekh tea on the second best china while he plays counters with Zeiat and Sphene. Sphene, at least, can discuss military tactics with him. Zeiat is too busy trying to figure out if she can eat Zahndrekh- he says he's flesh and blood, after all. Obyron is Very Tired. Kalr 5 is just hoping the dishes don't get too scuffed by all that metal.

i have Holes In My Brain, so i've almost certainly forgotten some i loved (every seivarden moment is my favorite moment!!! i just love Seeing Her!!!!) but doing my best:

4. all her sopping wet cat moments in justice. when she watches breq kill four people & complains that she's cold. babygirl,...

3. in the beginning of sword, when she keeps asking breq abt sex. and breq is like wow... she must just want to sleep with Someone. which is more of a Breq Moment than a seivarden moment but i love how pathetic she is abt it.

2. at the end of sword, when seivarden brings in mercy of kalr and saves breq's life, and then says she's "look[ing] forward to being reprimanded." that's embarrassing for her. and when she IS reprimanded & seivarden is very Obviously in love with her. like, she asks breq if she KNOWS ("Do you see what Ship sees?") & breq is, per usual, absolutely oblivious re: being loved & cared for. Peak Comedy. seivarden is having the Most Time Ever and breq is like - how odd, i wonder what's up with her.

1. and i think it's everyone's favorite seivarden moment, but after she falls off the bridge and asks breq that if that was something she'd do for someone she hates, what would she do for someone she loves?? (plus every conversation they have about ship favorites. Ships Hate Her!!!)

Description: Mercy of Kalr and Seivarden are each in a romantic relationship with Breq, and Seivarden is in a FWB relationship with Lt. Ekalu. All these relationships are incredibly hard to describe because they're from a fictional culture that handles romance and sex very differently from any real culture that I know of. Mercy of Kalr is a spaceship, Breq is its captain and also a spaceship AI in a human body, Seivarden and Ekalu are two of her lieutenants. Mercy of Kalr and Seivarden asked Breq to be in a relationship in a move that felt very much like sitting your boss down to talk about benefits, except the benefits in question are cuddles.

Weird how ships with ancillaries and humans are seen as equivalent here...

How is breq spying on Kalr 5 when she's back at the station, the station that hates her . Why did Anaander never before experiment with ships as commanders...the whole superiority complex no doubt

The problem I have with this series is that sometimes things happen and it never becomes clear what or why. Generally bc the narrative tries to build up a disappointing mystery in confusing dialogue

Why did Esk take all the medicine and then say: eh I just did to give Tisawarat some of that. Who would believe that? Why would Esk do that? Medic could have done that. Esk didn't need ALL meds to give Tisawarat an ibuprofen. So wtf.

Anyway Tisawarat is clearly altered - some sort of brain implants yeah

So confusing when the dialogue does a double without name marker. I have to infer that it was Medic speaking AGAIN because the response seems to have an indication that it's Medic speaking even though the preceding paragraph was Esk's. Surely an editor should have seen this

A Mercy's crew is tiny huh. How did they ever conquer planets.

Alright, here I am, a day late and a dollar short to the Imperial Radch week. But I do come bearing gifts. Specifically- two new drinks. One for Seivarden, the other for Kalr 5. Seivarden's is a pastiche on the classic sazerac cocktail: Do a glass rinse with arak, then add crushed ice, a sugar cube, a shot of your preferred whiskey or cognac, a shot of cherry heering, and either angostura bitters or tea bitters. Stir, then drink while trying not to have feelings for your boss/best friend/raison d'etre. Kalr 5 is a very civilized person, so I made her a very civilized, sip on your back porch/pound while at the Kentucky Derby kind of drink. Over ice; one shot of Pimm's No. 1 Liqueur, 1 shot pink grapefruit liqueur (as a fun reference to her pink tea set), top up with ginger beer and throw in the aforementioned angostura/teapot bitters. Tomorrow I hope to present my takes on Anaander and Tisarwat, but I can only make and drink so many of these in one day so ya'll will need to be patient. @annleckie @darling-child-tisarwat
