Kalimotxo, the Basque unofficial national drink, just got its own street in Tacoronte, Tenerife (Canary Islands).

This street name was born after a popular joke among neighbors, since the street lays between a Coca-Cola factory and a local winery, the two ingredients of the famous Basque cocktail.

The fact that the sign is also written with a Basque spelling is 🥰🥰🥰.

Quiero estar sentada en la banqueta bebiendo Calimocho

contemplando el atardecer

hasta que el horizonte se desvanezca

en la oscuridad de la calle.

Y si estoy bebiendo calimocho significa que estoy en calma absoluta,

porque no me preocupa lo que estoy tomando o la lejanía del lugar en el que estoy.

No estoy estresada por el trabajo porque puedo dejar pasar las horas

hasta que se haga de noche.

Significa que estoy simplemente disfrutando del momento y en paz conmigo.

Así que, si un día me ves tomando calimocho en una banqueta,

significa que estoy en el mejor momento de mi vida porque estoy en calma.

I've been feeling kinda sorry for myself lately. More so than usual. Things haven't exactly been a barrel of laughs for a looooooong time but recently...

Recently I lost a friend. One of the most amazing people I've met in my time. She was younger than me and so strong and so full of life and it felt, it feels, like the most unfair thing in creation that she should be gone, especially when I feel so fucking old and worn-out and broken-down that there are moments I would fucking welcome death.

So, no big surprise, I've been feeling like I'd welcome it even more since she died. I've been burning night and daylight both, not really caring if I slept, and when I have eventually collapsed it has always been in the hope that I wouldn't wake up.

But...

We have to live each day, because they can't.

And look. It's stupid to pin your emotional development on a silly little sci-fi show for kids that's had a farting spaceship and unaboobed mummies and the goddam Kandyman

but...

Hearing that line made me think about the unfairness of my friend's death in a different way than my usual morose bullshit. Because she would think it was unfair too, yes. But she would think it unfair because she would want to travel to more places, and to throw more parties and to drink more kalimotxo...

So yeah, look, I'm not saying I'm suddenly gonna become the life of the party because, like, I can't regenerate into a completely different person. I'm still a miserable old bitch. But maybe, maybe, maybe...

I can try.

To enjoy what's left to me a little more.

Because I have to live each day, because she can't.

I was reading you "coca-cola & red wine" and I needed to tell you here in Spain that's such a typical drink and we call it kalimotxo (the name comes from País Vasco, a region of our country that apart from Spanish speaks a different language, Esukera).
