Having incoherent thoughts about aetherborn again
No coherent thoughts, just thinking about aetherborne again.
For those unfamiliar, one of the planes in Magic the Gathering is Kaladesh, a world of invention. This is fueled by aether, a magical fuel source harvested from the atmosphere. Something seemingly unique to Kaladesh is the aetherborn, people who seem to manifest spontaneously from the aether. They lack most biological processes or needs, but are very short lived, ranging from a few months to three years in lifespan. And, every aetherborn is aware of exactly how much time they have left before their lifespan runs out.
Some aetherborn are "gifted", able to siphon the life of others to extend their own, but this is very rare. A gifted aetherborn could theoretically live forever, but they don't get much time from draining someone to death all things considered. So even an aetherborn who went full vampire, living on the deaths of others, never has much of a buffer.
Anyway, most aetherborn live their lives as fast as possible, reckless behavior driven by the exact awareness of how little time they have left.
Anyway, there are lots of things that could be done with this and my brain keeps briefly bouncing off of them but not making anything coherent so now I'm just rambling again.
I need to steal the concept for more sci-fi/fantasy writing at some point.

“You were right, Chandra, flamethrowers did improve the design! Oh, is something wrong?”
“Er, well, it’s just your…cat?”
Saheeli Rai stifled a small laugh as she watched Chandra linger anxiously in the doorway connecting her workshop to the den where she was sitting. In the middle of the room stood a white-furred felidar. The cat stared down the pyromancer with a defensive growl, clearly advising her to keep her distance. Chandra gladly obliged.
Saheeli smiled. “Oh, yes. I must apologize. He doesn’t like strangers very much.”
“I noticed.”
“Well, even so, are you just going to stand there all afternoon?”
“Maybe so! Look, cats almost always like me. Mother Luti said it had something to do with my fire magic keeping me warm but…er, regardless! Cats like me.”
“Okay?”
“Well, the cats that don’t like me, they tend to not like anyone. Like, *violently* dislike.”
“Don’t be ridiculous. He wouldn’t do anything to you…probably.”
“‘Probably’!” Chandra exclaimed.
“Yes, probably! I’m no biologist, you know.” Saheeli suppressed a sigh. “Well, I see this visit probably won’t be lasting to afternoon tea. How about, let’s reconvene some other time?”
“Yeah, that sounds…”
Chandra trailed off. Her face fell as she eyed the only exit - across the room from her, and guarded by the felidar. The cat seemed to know this, and began to meow loudly. Swallowing her pride, Chandra began to bargain with the cat:
“If…if you don’t let me out, I can’t leave you alone.”
Chandra took one nervous step into the room. The felidar’s growl in response started at a low pitch and quickly shifted high as it lunged forward, driving the pyromancer back towards the workshop.
“Okay! Okay! I’m sorry!”
Finally, Saheeli rose, trying desperately not to laugh as she restrained her pet.

you know i know popular hc is that chandra is not smart but what if she like. is dumb but only by kaladesh standards of "smart is making a new invention heretofore unknown to physics" and gatewatch just never realized because chandra always assumed when they said they were smart that they were at that level

it was my friend @jeinu's birthday recently so i drew his character Biho from an old tabletop game we played together!
Biho is a wonderful lad who would give you soup to go with your ibuprofen so you don't take meds on an empty stomach.
