[image id: Pictures of Zenkichi Hasegawa from Persona 5 Strikers, Kakeru Hasegawa from Monark, and Saori Hasegawa from Persona 3 Portable. Below each person is their name written in English and Japanese. /end id]
I know not everyone with the same last name has to be related, but hear me out!
They're either siblings or cousins; the timeline's making it hard for me to decide.
Under the cut for timeline discussion. Major Monark spoilers, you have been warned.
Zenkichi: October 1
He has a line in Strikers where he says he's in his forties.
Strikers takes place in 2017, meaning he would've been born 1977 or earlier.
Kakeru: April 9
In the game, he has a line where he's like "I'm still in my early thirties."
In issue 10 of Petit Monark, he insists that he grew up in the Heisei era.
On the walls throughout the academy are posters that say "Open School 10/23 Sat – 24 Sun", which lines up with 2021.
Based on this information, we can say he was born between 1987 and 1991. If we limit ourselves to saying he was born within the Heisei era, that narrows the range to 1989–1991.
Saori: Unknown
She's in the same year as the protagonist, but she lived overseas for two years. This would make her two years older than the protagonist.
Since Persona 3 takes place in 2009, this means she was born between April 1990 and March 1991
Mitsuru (not pictured): August 15
The only things we know about his age are that 1) he enrolled in the academy for high school and 2) he died ten years prior to the game.
Since his profile says he died on academy grounds, he probably died while he was still attending, which means we can say he was born between 1995 and 1997.
Tl;dr
Zenkichi: October 1, 1977 or earlier
Kakeru: April 9, 1987–1991
Saori: April 1990–March 1991
Mitsuru: August 15, 1995–1997 (through assumptions)
Cousins is probably more plausible, but siblings would be funnier if only because it means Zenkichi's parents had a kid while he was away at college.

Japanese QL Corner
Coming in hot this week with a new show plus an ongoing favorite. We also have Takara no Vidro and Ayaka is in Love with Hiroko! next week--we are back in the jql flood (yay!). Look forward to those and pray for international distribution so we can all watch TNV soon.
I Hear the Sunspot
I am so hype for this show. Twelve whole episodes to tell this story properly! The film version, Silhouette of Your Voice, is very cute but suffers from its short runtime. This one seems like it will be a more faithful adaptation of the full manga and I am thrilled. We started strong this week with the introductions of our main characters, Kohei and Taichi. I really love the way they are calibrated in this version, and Taichi is an instant blorbo. I also liked the choice to open with a look at Kohei's despair in the future before going back to the start, as it grounds everything nicely in the stakes for him. The show is also already doing a great job of unpacking Kohei's perspective on his hearing loss and the way others treat him as a result.
@nicks-den is also planning to fan sub this one, so look out for those updates. I recommend watching on Gaga when it comes out to give it the views and then revisiting with the better subs later in the week.
Bonus: Ossan no pantsu ga nandatte ii janai ka
Episodes 7 and 8 have been made available on @isaksbestpillow's blog, and this show continues to be glorious. Highlights from these episodes include the return of Hasegawa (with newly glowing skin) and Kakeru continuing to make friends and settle on a career path in makeup, Mika learning to let her family appreciate her, Makoto's confusion about whether Kakeru likes boys or girls, Kakeru's frustration that he's trying to figure that out at all, Daichi's anxiety that he is making Madoka's life more difficult, Madoka's fear of losing him due to his inability to come out, Makoto's continued efforts to confront his senior and change his workplace for the better, and a lot of hard won bonding and connection at the festival. Phew, this drama packs in so much in every installment and it all feels so natural.
My favorite thread in these episodes was the parallel they drew between Makoto and Kakeru and their struggles with communicating effectively. Kakeru's impatience and dismissiveness toward his parents' attempts to connect with him at the start of the story are akin to Makoto’s own former impatience and dismissiveness about anything he didn’t understand, and it was such a huge moment of growth for Kakeru to recognize that. Part of growing up is developing empathy for your parents and recognizing your own similarities to them, and I love that he is starting to open up and give Makoto grace as he earns his trust back. I also loved the conversation between Makoto and Madoka and the way they helped each other understand their respective situations better. This show keeps surprising me with how attentive it is to all of these relationships and connections.
Passing to @bengiyo for a manga update.

Don't Care for an Old Man's Underwear Ep 10 Stray Thoughts
This watch made possible thanks to @isaksbestpillow.
Last time, Hasegawa had the baseball team talk to Kakeru about why he felt uncomfortable with them. Over a series of conversations, the guys came to a better understanding about how their behavior made others uncomfortable, and realized that sometimes those behaviors make them uncomfortable too. On top of that, we got to see the baseball team mingle with Kakeru's girl friends. Elsewhere, Moe asked Makoto to go with Mika to the concert. Mika shared with Makoto that when she was in a dark place, RANDOM gave her something fun as a mental break and helped her make it through. Makoto listened closely and came to the fantastic analysis that RANDOM is the Okita family's benefactor. He had a great time at the concert with Mika, let her hang out with her fellow fans after the concert, did some research on his new bias, and then finally shared his research with Mika. They had a fantastic night, and met their kids on the way home. They invited Daichi and Madoka to hang out with them, and then Madoka proposed to Daichi in front of the Okita family. They later went to tell Daichi's mom and it was beautiful. I cried. We left at the family waiting to hear from Madoka, who went home to tell his family.
Oh no. Mihoko is definitely talking to Daichi's dad.
The costuming here feels intentional. Daichi and Makoto have come so far together that it feels like they're on the same page with their clothes looking so similar in color scheme.
Also, Makoto has become such a better listener. He can respond in compassionate ways to Daichi now that is supported by the earnestness he's always had.
I just love how thoughtful Makoto has become.
Kakeru looks so much more relaxed these days. He's having big youth moments.
Aw, Makoto was trying on the makeup trivia, and they dunked on my man.
Madoka succeeded!!! 🎉
Is Daichi's dad back to be homophobic? Sir, do you realize you are in the penultimate episode of the improving yourself and unlearning toxic masculinity show?
I am mad. I like Makoto slowing down to think about how best to support Daichi here.
I am with the makeup rival that they may be unintentionally encouraging Shizuka to change herself for her romantic interests.
Sir, your intellectualized homophobia is not cute.
I remain a fan of Haranishi.
Mika is such a good mom. I love the way she listens to Kakeru and gets him to the emotional core of his feelings. I also like that she doesn't disguise that some things aren't easy.
I will never forget Daichi. It's so rare that the characters can tell you how their own internalized homophobia cripples them in front of their relatives.
Yes, Kakeru! Tell him to meddle!
Well well well, Kakeru, look at you taking your own advice.
Wow, this man has gone too far. Do not talk to someone else's kid this way.
Yes, Makoto. Please go kick this man's ass.
This is such a difficult episode. There really is nothing you can say to someone to remove the infection of internalized homophobia. It's so upsetting because we learn shame at home. That's what this man put into his son. He is so rude, and I need him to have his ass handed to him pronto.
This was such a great episode reflecting on where we all fit into the society. I keep thinking about the scene about the colleague of theirs who got downsized. We contort ourselves to fit in only to be discarded when we're no longer useful, and then we lose our spouses.
I'm looking forward to the conclusion of this show, but I know I will miss it so dearly.

Oppan ep7: 0 for 7 and this time it got me in public!
I decided to download the episode to watch on a train today and badly miscalculated; ended up teary eyed at a border checkpoint (got through just fine).
I really love how good this show is at showing the circular progress of growth. Makoto learns, and makes mistakes, and learns from those mistakes, and as he does that he notices more things he used to miss, and gets it a little more right next time. It's a really loving and honest depiction of people trying their best. I love how people in his life are responding to his changes by interacting with him more and more honestly, trusting him with more of themselves and with problems, and how the payoff of his work is slow, incremental improvements in his day-to-day experience of his relationships rather than a single big moment.
I am so glad the show picked back up the thread of Makoto realizing he never thanked Mika for everything and then backing away from that thought because it was too awkward. And them having that moment together was such a good setup for them to fail collectively in the conversation with Kakeru; I felt Kakeru's frustration so much even as I sympathized with his parents for having put their foot in it without meaning to in what was a well-intentioned conversation that went wrong.
I'm also feeling a lot of feelings about Hasegawa feeling uncomfortable with 'locker room talk' and looking up to Kakeru for being strong enough to not give the socially expected answers. By being brave enough to be himself, Kakeru is making friends that he can be comfortable with rather than people who make him feel alien and pressured to be something he's not. This is such a wonderful journey for him.
Daichi getting support from Makoto was also a really beautiful moment. Madoka choosing to reject his father's help passively by pretending he wasn't good enough to pass the qualifier to get his veterinary licensed is such an understandable choice even as it is rightfully worrying. Makoto reminding Daichi that his presence in Madoka's life is worthwhile was a really good illustration of how Makoto has grown.
Tears watch: Makoto telling his wife that she deserves things she likes.
Thank you as always to @isaksbestpillow for sharing her hard work with us to enable us to be able to watch this gift of a show!

DRA fancasting
I was heavily inspired by @creepercraftguy's headcanons on voices for the Danganronpa Another cast so I caved and did my own as well. I have decided to use VAs that weren't in any of the official Danganronpa games and anime while also considering the other roles the voice actors are known for as well as their overall energy.
That being said, this was made in all good fun if it and its' sequel (which I'll post tomorrow hopefully) were official games. I hope you enjoy the picks as I did.
Yuki Maeda - Zach Aguilar Notable Roles: - Tanjiro Kamado (Kimetsu no Yaiba) - Koichi Hirose (JJBA: Diamond is Unbreakable) - Genos (One-Punch Man) *Also for a note, Utsuro himself will share the same VA as Yuki, though the voice would have some distinction.
Akane Taira - Lisa Reimold Notable Roles: - Ui Tamaki (Madoka Magica: Magia Record) - Emma Verde (Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club) - Kurumi (Lycoris Recoil)
Kiyoka Maki - Amber Lee Connors Notable Roles: - Shouko Komi (Komi-san) - Pieck Finger (Attack on Titan) - Furina/Focalors (Genshin Impact)
Mitsuhiro “Mitch” Higa -Jonah Scott Notable Roles: - Kojiro Nanjo (SK8 the Infinity) - Legoshi (Beastars) - Tatsu (Way of the House Husband)
Kizuna Tomori - Sarah Anne Williams Notable Roles: - Sayaka Miki (Madoka Magica) - Nonon Jakuzure (Kill la Kill) - Peacock (Skullgirls)
Ayame Hatano - Ryan Bartley Notable Roles: - Komugi (Hunter x Hunter) - Shoko Ieiri (Jujutsu Kaisen) - Ram (Re:ZERO)
Kakeru Yamaguchi - Alejandro Saab (CyYu) Notable Roles: - Gabimaru the Hollow (Hell's Paradise) - Tatsuya Shiba (The Honor at Magic High School) - Izumi Miyamura (Horimiya)
Kanata Inori - Brianna Knickerbocker Notable Roles: - Hu Tao (Genshin Impact) - Kanao Tsuyuri (Kimetsu no Yaiba) - Filo (Rise of Shield Hero)
Kinji Uehara - Daman Mills Notable Roles: - Lyney (Genshin Impact) - Blade (Honkai Star Rail) - Legato Bluesummers (Trigun Stampede)

(yank) [ from kakeru! maybe he could have pulled her away from a speeding car or something? tbh, i like the idea of him being school doctor at her last school prior to her transfer to hopes peak, but i also don’t mind you going the AU route of him being the school doctor at hopes peak! ] @causalitylinked
her heart knows she cannot feasibly be that clumsy. some of it was with purpose, carefully orchestrated delineation of feminine vulnerability : never under the commination of danger. danger that grows, elevates itself, all the risk of bruised knees and broken bones, cracked rib cage impious to any and all tenderness laying within. as such, it's become anticipated for mikan to take an unexpected tumble, ankles hooking onto an outstretched foot waiting for the lamb to wander into the dark forest.
this time, it's when she's ( lilting and tentatively ) on the sidewalk, absently gripping the wrist of her right arm with the fingers of her left, rubbing her thumb against her forearm. a method of self - soothing, near indiscernible to the outside world / she's learned her lesson from playing with her hair and shaking out her hands. so perhaps mikan is not entirely surprised when she feels hands ( unfamiliar, unkind, unforgiving ; an enemy she's never known ) form against the small of her back, weight pushing her into the erotic moans of the cars speeding past. disenthralled from the weights of the world, her eyes clench shut, preparing herself for what was to come.
( what was to come was the sharp yanking of her arms and body backwards away from the road, exasperated yelp forced past mikan's lips before she could fathom what was happening. )
the face that focuses in from the blur of her adjusting eyes is not one she entirely anticipated, the face of . . . no, certainly that couldn't be one kakeru hasegawa. a face she hasn't seen for at least a few years, not since she escaped the unkind, teenage girl - laden clutches of lapis lazuli girl's high school. it takes just as long for mikan to realize she'd inadvertently tumbled onto to the sidewalk after having been yanked backwards, roseate scrape of gravel against her knee. heavy without the knowledge of her assailant, mikan nevertheless offers her former school doctor a tentative grimace.
❝ awawawa . . . hasegawa - san, i'm s- so sorry this is h- how we meet again ! ❞ desperate attempts to stifle the tears threatening to lick at her eyes' corners.

"Do you enjoy the school atmosphere?" Bo-ra questioned, while sitting beside him and watching the pupils enjoy their own break. "You could have worked at a hospital or even your own clinic, why here?" Meanwhile she actually dared to pick a piece of his meal with her chopsticks, which vanished quickly past her lips. Seems like the box with salad in her hand was not as exciting as his lunch. Losing weight seemed to be impossible for her, but she still tried at times.
unprompted asks. » always accepting!
"Well, I guess there's not much I'd hate about it; after all, there's something comforting about seeing the kids enjoying their youth to the fullest," Kakeru states as he continues observing the uniformed students of Shin Mikado Academy with his lone eye. The moment Bo-ra questioned why he decided to work here, however, he almost grimaced, for it was a question that proved rather personal, but upon not wanting to worry her, he'll shrug.
"Let's just say the hospital life doesn't exactly suit me; besides, running my own clinic would be too much work. I mean, not only would I have to hire my own set of assistants and everything, it really seems more trouble than it's worth." Sure enough, he'll then push his bowl of salmon ochazuke further off towards her so she could have more if she wished. Why, considering his appetite wasn't that huge to begin with, he didn't mind sharing.
"And it's actually close by to where I live, making my commute to and from the academy very convenient," Kakeru soon adds while neglecting to mention it was also the place where his deceased younger brother used to attend school, because that would probably make Bo-ra regret asking. ...Still, if she bothered visiting the Memorial Garden, which happened to be a wooded area near the Old Dormitory with narrow pathways that contained a memorial for students who passed away during their time at the Academy, she would find a student by the name of Mitsuru Hasegawa listed on there.
Considering it was such a rich, prestigious academic institution, however, the three multi-floor buildings, coupled with a massive club building, a library with the largest collection of books in the country, sports facilities for extra-curricular activities, and middle school facilities might stand out more than the massive memorial garden with a now-defunct dormitory that used to be utilized for students outside of the city.

[ please pretend this is december 6 ] “Ah, Ryu-chan! Happy birthday!” Kakeru beams, only to subsequently pause with a few absentminded blinks rolling off his lone eye when it occurred to him he may have misremembered it. “Wait… I didn’t get the date all wrong, did I? Either way, I got you a little something.”
Sure enough, upon withdrawing an arm from behind his back, he’ll hand her a beautiful silver watch with turquoise gemstones embedded into it, which unlike his, was actually working properly. “Hopefully, you like it. I had it fashioned specifically for you,” he then sheepishly admits.
It was a busy day of work, visitors coming in droves for the holidays and shifts in the exhibit. But once the crowd lulled and the day stretched to night, she was finally free of responsibility. If it weren’t for the red circle over her calendar she would have forgotten it was her birthday by the night's end. But the marker’s ink only serves to remind her it would be another year spent without plans. Oh well. There’s always next year, maybe she could do better to plan before the holiday rush. A certain doctor could do for a night out, if he wasn’t too tired. She laughs at the thought, shaking her head as she readies herself to begin closing the gallery. But her name being called shifts her focus, a bright smile lagging behind as he wishes her a happy birthday. Was this one of those moments where thoughts shift reality? “ Oh, no, no! You .. you got it right. ” Her eyes crinkle in slight disbelief, “ I just wasn’t expecting you to .. y’know– ” A bright grin curves at her lips, attention diverted to the arm hidden behind his back.
She marvels at the gift, soft hands enclosing over the watch almost hesitantly. It wasn’t often someone remembered her birthday, let alone cared enough to hand-deliver a present. “ Like it? Are you kidding me, Hasegawa? I love it! ” Her eyes glow with earnest delight, arms reaching up to wrap around his shoulders, gentle squeeze as she lingers to embrace for a moment or two. “ You really didn’t have to do this, my little lunches don’t even compare to this. But I’ll treasure it! ” It’s nearly squealed laughter that follows as she presses it close to her chest. “ Are you .. doing anything? I mean, I know you’re probably tired ‘n all, but .. I’d love to invite you out. No hard feelings if you say no. " A small pause." I mean it is bad luck to say no to me on my birthday, but heh .. I’d really like it if you humored me a few hours more. I’m almost done here too. How 'bout it? ”

The original text in the last panel was something along the lines of "The Showa era sounds inconvenient." "Heisei! Heisei!"
The Showa era lasted from December 25, 1926 to January 7, 1989 (Wikipedia). The Heisei era lasted from January 8, 1989 to April 30, 2019 (Wikipedia).
I figured baby boomer (1946–1964) and millennial (early 1980s to early 2000s) were close enough equivalents that a localization might use.

"Vivian," he called out her name whilst making his way towards her. At first he didn't want to approach her only because... he was going to ask something he never thought he would be asking. Something so fucking stupid because of a shit, older man named Kakeru Hasegawa. Annoying. Everything was turning into a big pain in his ass this week! "Did you speak to a guy that looks like he doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about? Hasegawa?" He already knew the answer though still wanted to confirm it with Vivian. "If you did, be prepared to watch out for his shit tactics. That old fucker is planning on asking you out for a 'coffee date.' "
Turn him down, is what he thought bitterly, a frown gracing on his features. It's annoying enough that he has to act like some possessive guy over her when they're not even together. So, why is he getting weird about this? "And if he doesn't take no for an answer, just say that we're dating so he can leave you alone. Got it?" If things turned out for the worse, he'll hold accountability for it. Besides, it's not like they'll have to prove themselves to Kakeru if they're officially dating, right? Right. If it does come to that--- Hayate might have to go see Rokuro to tell him to take the damn man's soul out.
「 Don't murder a guy just because he wants to get to know her better! 」 A voice says to him, concerned and panicked.
"I just wanted to inform you that," he reached over to place his hand upon her head, giving it a few reassuring head pats before he bent down enough to kiss her forehead. ”I have stuff to do, so I’ll message you later on if I’m not busy. Try not to get lonely.” He gave another kiss on her forehead, ruffling her head at the same time. Quickly, he pulled himself away then turned around to head back to the direction came from. ”Don’t be scared to tell him off— the guy needs that more than just a gentle reminder.” A hand is thrown up, waving a goodbye to her as he walks off.
UNPROMPTED ASKS. » always accepting!
Of course, Vivian’s quick to glance up from her phone when Hayate calls out her name, and because she hadn’t expected him to approach her while she’s seated at a long, sleek sofa in the hotel lobby, she’ll proceed to curiously blink. “Oh... Hayupin. What’s up?” came her absentminded murmur, and to make it clear he had her full, undivided attention, she’ll shove the phone back into her jacket pocket.
The moment he brings up Kakeru, though, she’ll immediately quirk a brow, because if nothing else, she had no idea where he was exactly going with this. “Who, Kaki-kins? Yeah, I know him! Er... why do you ask?” Vivian questions, allowing slight bewilderment to lace her tone. Still, upon being told Kakeru was planning to ask her out for coffee, her coal black eyes would immediately widen.
“Wait... come again?” was all she could even manage to utter as she attempts to register every last one of Hayate’s unbelievable words. Honestly enough, she lacked any romantic attraction towards Kakeru, but for a old man, he was kind of cute... and she would be lying if she said she never thought about how his stubble might feel against her most sensitive bits; however, it never occurred to her he was interested in her like that.
Still, when it finally sinks in Kakeru wanted to ask her out, her cheeks would gradually flush... but at the same time, she couldn’t help feeling conflicted, because Hayate clearly did not want her to actually date him, considering how adamant he was about telling him a white lie. “Y-Yeah, um... I’ll think about it,” she finds herself murmuring out rather distractedly, but the whole entire time, Vivian wonders why he exactly cared... after all, it’s not like he had feelings for her.
Besides, Kakeru seemed so genuinely sweet and silly, she doesn’t think it warranted Hayate trying to protect her from him... and so, when he lays his hand over her head, she’ll unconsciously nuzzle his palm with half-lidded eyes, yet at the same time, her own lips would gradually form a conflicted pout.
‘I’m not yours, though,’ she wanted to say; only, Vivian doesn’t, choosing instead to soak in the warmth of his gentle hand, and for a moment, she forgets all about her inner bitterness when Hayate kisses her forehead. To keep up pretenses, though, she’ll bashfully smile despite it not quite reaching her eyes this time around. “O-Okay, I’ll wait patiently... like a good girl!” Vivian promises before fastening her eyelids shut in an attempt to conceal the melancholic yearning hidden behind them.
“Bye bye, Hayupin!” she finally brings herself to wave back... all while internalizing the resentment she harboured for being expected to lie about them dating. Honestly, she finds herself upset, to the point where for once, Vivian doesn’t want to do as she was told... what’s more, she had to eventually get over Hayate at some point, right?
And even though she won’t ever actively try to find a man, it’s a different story if one were to make the first move. Who knows, though? Perhaps one day, she might eventually return Kakeru’s feelings... she just had to mould him into being the dom of her dreams first.

Don't Care for an Old Man's Underwear! Ep 8 Stray Thoughts
As always, this watch was made possible by @isaksbestpillow
Last time, Kakeru revealed to Mika and Moe that he wants to go to a premier makeup school, and will finish high school to make sure he qualifies. He had a good conversation with Hasegawa after being asked if he was gay, revealing that he sometimes finds either men or women admirable in their own ways but as yet has not felt love. Hasegawa expressed his admiration for Kakeru for never playing along with boy talk that also makes him uncomfortable. Kakeru also managed to form a new friendship with his rival. Makoto is struggling at work to keep his misogynistic senior from pissing off everyone, and it seems like Haranishi suppressed him with his bra for now. Makoto also unfortunately thought Kakeru was seeing two people and put his foot in his mouth again trying to be supportive. However, he did help Daichi by reassuring him that Madoka choosing him is also a valid choice, even as we all worry about Madoka giving up on being a vet to dodge his family's disappointment. Not to be forgotten, Makoto insisted that Mika enjoy the tickets they got for her.
I like how much easier the friendship between Daichi and Makoto feels at this point. Saying they help each other feels genuine.
Oh no. Is Daichi avoiding Madoka?
Looking forward to seeing more rude men at Makoto's job!
I love that Daichi doesn't lie to Kakeru about reaching out at Makoto's request.
Kakeru admitting that he took out his frustrations on his parents feels like an important step for him.
Oh no. Daichi is pulling back from Madoka, and now he's going to think Daichi is trying to get with Kakeru because Kakeru is so cute.
Hold on, I'm suddenly invested in Furuike trying to use the contacts he's built up across his career in a digital age that cuts down on human interactions.
Ah, Furuike knows the engineer who designed the copier and is trying to protect his reputation. He's also got little left in his life besides his idea of work and the efforts they made before, so he's trying to validate that their way of doing things wasn't completely wrong. Look at this show giving this unpleasant man recognizable humanity.
Okay, I was touched by the two old guys solving a problem together.
Also feels significant that Kakeru wanted to wait to talk to Makoto.
Aw, they get to bond over having similar troubles navigating human interactions.
"I respect your grit and perseverance. In order for them not to go to waste, would you please change with me?" is basically the plea the show is making to the masculine audience.
Not me crying because this old man made tea.
Kakeru teasing about never hearing his dad complain before also feels like a moment. I wonder if we'll return to Kakeru's comment about not being an adult.
Why do both Okita men blush the same way? Lol
For saying he stumbles constantly, Makoto recognized that Kakeru didn't tell him what he really wanted from that booth.
Oh, Kakeru. Once again this show hitting queer notes left behind in romance all the time. It's easy to resent people for not being able to understand you, but that's just hiding the loneliness and disappointment you feel at not being able to connect with them, too. Kakeru admitting that he's feeling sad that he can't be the son he wanted because his father is actively trying to be a father Kakeru can love and respect got me.
As always, Daichi doesn't tell Kakeru what to think, and reaffirms that Kakeru always has a choice in how to engage with the world.
Dammit, they got me again. Madoka explaining to Makoto how hard it is to tell your parents important things about yourself because of the huge stakes, and then trying to accept being dumped, is making my chest clench.
Oh, Makoto, finally your over sharing tendencies pay off.
Wow, this man is so tall that he could see Daichi over the crowd.
Ugly crying about Kakeru and Makoto talking out the baseball thing at the festival, and then Kakeru asking his dad to teach him how to use the pop gun to get what he wants for himself.
He let his dad put the necklace on him!
Daichi and Madoka are holding hands in public!
Well well well, Kakeru still has to face the boys on the baseball team.
This has quickly become one of my favorite shows of all time. She wasn't in this episode a lot, but Mika continues to be one of my favorites because of her instincts. She could tell that Kakeru wanted to face Makoto properly, so she makes sure to check in with him first before hovering to see that they're okay. She then later insists on sending Makoto to the festival in a yukata with Kakeru because she knows they need to do that together. If she doesn't insist on Makoto going and dressing up, he doesn't have that conversation with Madoka, and he doesn't make progress with Kakeru at the booth. She helped four men with her kindness and determination, and enabled her daughter to support her brother while also receiving validation about her hobby from her dad.
Makoto has come so far. I really loved him supporting his senior through the resolution of that work problem, and still telling him that his attitude was wrong. I also liked that he also got corrected by Shimura afterwards, who insists that he use respectful honorifics for her. He's finally earned the confidence of his team by being the leader they need him to be.
This show is excellent, and I've not cried this much watching a show in a long time.
