So, a lot of people say that Kakashi was this brainwashed little lap dog of Konoha because of his unrelenting loyalty. And that’s why they don’t like him. Fair enough - you don’t have to like him.

But was he a lap dog, tho? I’m sure someone has mentioned it before, and I’m not the first, but his passive aggressive white-haired behind protested the establishment from the day Obito died.

From a cultural perspective, Kishimoto is from Japan. A country which is known for its structure and adherence to norms, especially punctuality. He created Kakashi, who from the day Obito met The Rock, said I’m going to be late for EVERYTHING! Not just minutes late, but HOURS late. He intentionally created him to be outside the norm.

Meh, I know, ok, ok, so Konoha isn’t necessarily Japan and they may do things differently. Let’s let that slide. People are born with pink, white, and blue hair there and they’re currently fighting aliens and cyborgs. So really can’t compare. Cool. But even in this fictional world his lateness was an outlier and considered rude.

Okay, but hello, Kakashi is also in the military. Ain’t no military in the world, fictional or real, gonna put up with blatant disrespect for time. I’m from a military family and there’s an old military saying that goes, “early is on time, on time is late, and late is unacceptable.” You just don’t.

Kakashi really doesn’t care. Hello? He was late to the Third, who happened to be his commanding officer, elder, and village leader’s, funeral. The ultimate disrespect. Why was he late? Because he was paying homage to his friends and father who were all dead in the name of the village who couldn’t care less about them. Kakashi blatantly disrespects and disregards everything the village stands for ALL THE TIME and that scene was the epitome. And he does it not so subtly. From being late to everything to reading erotica in public (*faints and clutches pearls*) to failing all previous kids in the academy that were sent to him, which is him saying he plays by his own rules not Konoha’s.

I think people forget how high ranking Kakashi is (literally only the jonin commander, the elders, and Hokage outrank him). In the war, he’d be the equivalent of a general. Put his actions into the perspective of his rank and you really will see how he spat in their faces.

They could have demoted him, stripped him of his rank. Kicked him out of the forces. Reprimanded him in other ways. Etc…but the reality was they couldn’t. He was their cash cow. With the Sannin gone, he was bringing in the most money for the village, so they had no choice but to let him do as he pleased and he knew that. So for as many people who say he was Konoha’s lap dog, Konoha was his.

But, wait, he could have left. Right?? Nope. Why’d the little punk stay and be loyal to a village that destroyed his life? Why? Because. He was anchored to that forsaken village by guilt. If he can’t leave those graves to show up on time for a funeral or to train his squad or go on a mission, then lawd knows he’s not leaving those graves permanently to go rogue. Even if they’re dead, his family and friends are there. As are his living ones. Even at his lowest, he wouldn’t/couldn’t leave them behind. Something…something… blah blah blah about being scum. So, he internally, as in within the confines of the village, and subtly went rogue on a daily with passive aggression, resistance, and defiance.

Naruto knows when Itachi is due back from his mission because, as always, she’s spent years sneaking into her father’s office and going through his paperwork. She’s still split on whether he genuinely hasn’t noticed (unlikely) or is just letting her snoop on highly classified files (also unlikely) but as long as she keeps being able to get past his seals, she’s going to take advantage of it.

Itachi doesn’t even have the decency to act surprised to see her sitting on his kitchen table and eating his chips. Probably because he sensed her from a literal mile away, but still. “Hello Naruto,” he says, dropping his pack on the floor and heading straight to his fridge for the disgusting weird protein health drinks he gets from the Inuzukas.

Tsume forces those on them semi-regularly and they taste like dirt. She doesn’t understand how Itachi drinks them willingly. “I need a favor.”

“Okay,” he says, tilting his head back and chugging.

She frowns. “It’s a big favor. You’re not going to like it.”

He finishes the bottle and throws it into the trash across the room without looking. “Okay.”

She throws up her hands. “Seriously? Are you really planning on letting me cash in on helping expose Madara for the rest of your life?”

“Yes,” he says.

Shikamaru like Naruto well enough, but tends to tune her out a lot of the time, because she’s very loud and high energy and likes to do things that end up getting everyone in trouble except her. It’s not even like she’s using the fact that she’s the hokage’s daughter to get out of it – she’s just that much better at outrunning Anbu than they are.

There’s a joke in there about her avoiding Kakakshi, but since he values his limbs and also his quiet, he never makes it.

When Naruto’s quiet, that’s when they need to worry. Naruto was really quiet around the time she unearthed the almost rebellion of the Uchiha that he’s supposed to know nothing about. She’s quiet now too, blue eyes dark and voice low as she tells them what the first two sections of the chunin exam are going to be like and that they have to be careful.

“Why are you so worried about this?” Ino asks.

Naruto trades a glance with Sasuke then, surprisingly, Sakura. Shikamaru hadn’t been sure those two could untangle from each other enough to make room from the girl from a civilian family, but it doesn’t seemed to have tripped them up too badly. “It’s need to know. For now.”

Considering all the things Naruto talks about loudly and unrepentantly, that’s very, very concerning.

“You’re telling the others this?” Chouji asks.

Sakura nods. “We’ll be waiting in the forest. We won’t go to the tower until you’re all there.”

It sounds arrogant said like that, but Sasuke’s a prodigy in his own right, and the only reason he hadn’t graduated early was because he and Naruto had wanted to be on the same team together.

The reason Naruto hadn’t graduated early was partially due to sabotage – man, had their teacher before Iruka hated her – but also because she refused to correct them, to complain, to make a big deal out of her abilities.

Naruto plays things closer to her chest than even he does.

So if she’s being this transparent and upfront, they better listen.

That mission took a toll on Kakashi. Minato was his master, the Yellow Flash, and he was too late to save Rin and Obito. You remember it vividly, there was a crash on your porch that night, scaring your mother half to death. It was only the two of you, and when you both sprung to check the door, there was Kakashi half awake and looked dead. Your mother knew to leave you two and made a pot of tea in the kitchen. Kakashi didn't speak for a long while, when he did, those tears fell fast from his face. Facing the deaths of his comrades and friends was nothing light for a ninja. 

“I couldn't do anything” he had said to you, crying into your chest. “All I have is this stupid eye” 

“That eye…is what you can use to remember them,” you told him, lifting his face to see the eye that contained the Sharingan. “Fight with this eye, for Rin and Obito. What better way to remember them than to fight for what they taught you and gave you”

This was not the last night Kakashi came to your place, but it was the last he used the door. Kakashi would sneak into your room, already expecting him, you would open your arms for him to climb into. He would slide into your arms, holding you close, breathing in everything about you. He never pushed you away even though he worried you would die. He was always worried having people close would mean that they could die. You knew that having people close meant you were going to be stronger.

“Don't you dare push me away Hatake” you had yelled at him one day. You glared at him after catching up to him. He could see the anger in your eyes.

He had tried to avoid you all week, hoping you would let him go. He was so wrong. Kakashi was going to join the Anbu Black Ops. The Anbu tried to instill a sense of individuality and isolation in their soldiers, but it didn't work on Kakashi. 

“I couldn't push you away if I tried Y/N” Kakashi said, walking over to you. He put out his hand and the two of you continued walking around the village.

Soon after joining the Anbu Kakashi insisted on moving in together. After confirming that he couldn't live without you, and had failed at pushing you away he knew he had to do this. Guy had also pushed him into it, saying it was the only way.

"I am telling you Kakakshi, you love this girl," he said to Kakashi. They sat in both at one of the restaurants, Guy had practically dragged Kakashi inside. "You should tell her, stop dancing around it"

"I can't..." Kakashi told him, "What is she..."

"She loves you back," Guy said with a wink, "Don't worry about that part one bit"

Remarkably, Kakashi listened. 

“What?” you asked. Kakashi looked confused, even under the mask. 

“Move in with me…as my girlfriend,” he said hesitantly. You were dumbfounded, completely caught off guard.

“I…of course I will,” You said, “I never thought you would be the first to ask”

“Guy said I had to make a move. Told me to stop dancing around it and tell you” Kakashi said, his eyes were at his feat. He was embarrassed to tell you all this, afraid you would find it weak. You thought the opposite.

“Well thank you to Guy then!” you said throwing your arms around Kakashi. 

 Guy always teased the two of you, even before Kakashi started calling you his girlfriend and long after. He always knew he had some help in getting Kakashi to own up to the fact that he wanted you as his. 

“You two look great today” Guy would say, showing the two of you a thumbs up before dashing off. In his younger years, Kakashi and Guy had a heated rivalry, mostly one-sided. As they got older Kakashi started to recognize the rivalry and the friendship that came with it.

You found his antics to be hilarious, always bursting out in laughter whenever Guy was around. Your laughter has always been contagious, and soon Kakashi's students couldn't keep a straight face with you around. Sakura was always smiling at the two of you together, her ideas of love definitely were filed by you and Kakashis's relationship. Naruto however was your favorite, a goofball, and someone with more humor than yourself. 

Everyone could see how keeping you around was good for Kakashi. You helped him, in small and big ways. You were the only person who truly understood Kakashi. 

“You have always stood by my side” he had said to you on the day he became Hokage. He looked at you standing by his side, hand in hand. Matching rungs shone in the sunlight, and Kakashi's smile was more for you than for becoming Hokage.

“I always will,” you told him, squeezing his hand and telling him you wouldn't ever let go. It was the two of you taking on the world together. Forever by each other's sides.

I just saw your theme swapped team 7 post with the hint of Mokuton Sakura... if I can ask, how does she learn Mokuton? Is Yamato or Tsunade her teacher? Its a very unique concept and I'm very curious!

Oh for that one she just accidentally develops it on her own. Imagine it is a very rare skill for soneone to have it and even more for them to actually develop it and learn to use it.

Sakura was just lucky to be born with it and then one day while practicing something else, maybe with her chakra nature, she just *mokutons* and surprises herself with it. She thinks it's cool and is a little confused, but Kakakshi seeing this, runs to Tenzou to have him better guide her.

The other two stepped forward as prompted, but looked back at Kyohi when they realized he remained rooted to the floor. Again, his arms were grabbed and he was brought forward, directly before the man behind the desk. He could feel his team members poking and prodding his back--Say something.

Was he feigning ignorance? Kyohi had seen the resemblance immediately.

"Hatake Kakashi..." his voice was quiet, and his hands gripped into loose fists at his sides. How could it be possible for this moment to be so nerve-wracking and be this angry, at the same time? "Squad 13...As its leader--" he wasn't. A bluff as an excuse to be the one speaking, "I'll receive the details of the mission." A pause. "Hatake Kyohi, is my name."

The message of the team's arrival had been received with a half-disinterested grunt and a wave of his hand. Kakashi had his head propped by a lightly curled fist, eyes darting over various documents scattered over his desk.

He could feel a growing headache from this alone but he had assured a certain advisor that he would get through a portion of this bookwork before calling it a day.

When the doors opened, he didn't immediately lift his head. He was still glossing over a reform for welfare assistance when the typical greeting was made--half cut as it was. Slowly his eyes climbed upward and came to rest on a young face.

The eyes...burned some distant memory, and given how it chilled the surface of his skin he was quick to shake it off. The curious matter was currently the way they were gawking at him and he lifted a brow before speaking.

"Well, come in then. Nevermind the mess." He says with a touch of amusement as he beckons them forward.

Hi, I've been looking for a Kakairu fanfic and i cannot find it anywhere.

Basically, Danzou raised Kakashi, so Kakashi is a member of Root. There're also Itachi and Tenzou who are in Root as well. Iruka sides with Hiruzen, they have a father-son connection. Kakashi and Iruka met in a meeting and Kakashi takes interests in Iruka. Hiruzen asks Iruka to seduce Kakashi, cause he wants him on their side. They also have a spy in root (it's Tenzou. He said they erased his memories but somehow they came back and he purposely visited Hiruzen and asked for this job). Itachi doesn't like Iruka and he puts him into a coma. There's also Asuma who acts like a big brother to Iruka. He worries for him and gets furious when Iruka told him he's having a sexual relationship with Kakakshi. In the end Kakashi has a change of heart and sides with Hiruzen and Iruka. It's a complete work.

Frankly surprised you took a shot in the dark here, but I do know the fic.

Reason # 42,217 to appreciate Kakashi.

Reading Sakura Hiden (I know I know, I’m late to the game) and it’s humbling to see him be so open, brutally honest, and downright vulnerable in sharing his own struggles with his mental health with Sakura, his student. And telling her that’s why he was fighting so hard to help her help future generations get the mental health help they need. The system failed him and his generation and he refused to let that happen again. Hence all the changes he made in his tenure. Gotta respect that!

I mean, I’m guessing his kids (Team 7) knew he had something going on, because who didn’t?? - he’d been through two wars for crying out loud, but to them, as the “adult,” he was the one they all turned to, the one who was supposed to have it all together. Remember, as a reader and viewer, we’re privy to his past; his students knew pretty much nothing about him, aside from what was shared in the war with Obito. They didn’t know about his dad; they didn’t know much about Team Minato and their demises; they knew he was in Anbu, but not the details; didn’t know about the ptsd and panic attacks, his incessant desire to die, etc…So, for him to admit it to Sakura, not necessarily the details, but the fact that he has struggled with his mental health and had his own demons was a huge step in his acknowledging how much he trusts those kids and respects them as allies and equals, and as friends.
