Kouichi clutched, desperate into the arms that didn’t remember him, unable to stop tears from overflowing no matter the strength with which he tried to hold himself back or the composure he attempted to assert, showing he was alright -

           but this wasn’t alright.

His heart burned as hot as the emotion behind his eyes, squeezing around the other’s gentle, kind frame that offered a solace no matter how strange... Like coming home to a place that had been renovated, familiar and yet different. And, damn - Kouichi was sobbing with the fear that he had lost his best friend.

Ken’s memories reset; his Digital World rebooted and Kouichi couldn’t save him... except from the darkness that they technically did not share anymore. The warrior wiped his aching face and stretched away from the other’s hold, putting his heartbreak aside to declare himself staying by the other’s side.

But he couldn’t lift his head to allow them to see the shadows in his irises.

He hadn't seen Kouichi in at least an hour, so he calmly got up and started looking. When he found Kouichi passed out, tousled hair and splayed limbs, he swore he had a heart attack, flashing back to his brother as he dashed to Kouichi and carefully picked him up, checking for wounds. "Kou-chan? Wake up.. "

Kouichi didn’t feel the cold of the floor - in fact, he didn’t feel much of anything. He just... knew somehow that he was laying somewhere that was not his futon, breath sharp and head aching until... someone’s arms pulled him in.

A flash of dark hair seen from between cracked open eyes had Kouichi groaning, “K...K -” But Kouji didn’t fit with the kind and expert way he was being treated, though the comfort was still dearly familiar.

“Ken-chan,” Kouichi regained some clarity only to rub at his temples, tired.

“Ah... sorry,” a sigh, “must’ve dozed off... ‘r something...”

And he gripped on to press white cold lips to the other’s face and forehead.

Somewhere Under The Sky

“... That could have gone smoother.”

Daisuke groaned as he sat up and ran his hand along the back of his neck. The pain was subsiding but that was a small comfort as he gazed up at the sea of clouds above him. He slowly climbed to his feet, supporting himself on the nearest tree trunk before shakily putting all of his weight back on his legs.

One moment he had been bounding across the landscape on Raidramon’s back, seeing just how fast they could travel through the Digital World - and the next something had hit him and sent them both flying. He remember being pulled off his faithful partner’s back and being flung across the horizon. Then blackness.

“What was that?” Daisuke wondered, as he slowly peered out in every direction. He could tell V-mon was nowhere to be seen, but he had to have hope and faith in his partner. “Nnrn... I better find him...”

Hawkmon had flown all the way from Odaiba to Tamachi, looking for Ken’s apartment building. Miyako had trusted him with a letter for Ken, an unusually simple one (at least for her standarts), saying: “Meet me at the park. Bring Minomon. Miyako”. 

Once he finally found Ken’s balcony, Hawkmon knocked on the glass door with his beak.

“Ken-san? Minomon? I have a message from Miyako-san to you!”
