Yes, I have finally done it, I have named one of my creative ourbursts after the German name of Oathkeeper (which I LOVE because it's such a great, poetic name IMO - it roughly translates to loyalty to the stars, which can be read as staying true to a chosen destiny), SoKai shipping lifegoal accomplished, let's move on.

Also, it's still Inktober, but I might do a colored version of this once it's over. As always, I'm using a prompt from my own prompt list (feel free to use it for your Inktober project as well, and please tag me if you do, I'd love to see it!!).

I think it's weird that Kairi's wayfinder didn't make an appearance in kh3 but unless they're just going to sweep part of bbs' secret ending under the rug it's probably going to come up in kh4... right... it has to right.........

Saw someone comparing people disliking Kairi being the “damsel in distress” of the franchise and wanting her to have her own game to raging feminists complaining that she should be a strong independent woman that don’t need no man and like… no…

Kairi is great in kh1. Seriously! If anyone looks at kh1 and goes “it’s bad because a woman is a damsel in distress and that’s sexist” yeah no they’re stupid. The problem is how it keeps happening.

Kh1: she’s a princess of heart so she’s taken by the darkness and her heart is protected by sora’s heart. But this is fine! It’s goo motivation for Sora, especially since Riku’s gone evil.

CoM: it’s all about saving Naminé, who isn’t technically Kairi but is Kairi’s nobody. So it isn’t that bad. It really does hammer home how Sora’s memories of Kairi are of highest value to him, to the point it can get a bit repetitive lmao. But still it’s fine.

Kh2: she’s not a damsel at all! Apart from like being taken by Axel for a bit, I’d say this is the most agency she’s gotten in the whole series. But still, she was kidnapped by Axel. It resolved quickly, but still.

She doesn’t appear much until kh3, and when she does it’s pretty good. So at this point it’s established that she IS a strong character. Even in kh3 she spends who knows how long in a hyperbolic time chamber training with Axel/Lea, so as far as we know she’s at the level of a keyblade master by now.

But then

And this is probably my biggest gripe with kh3

We get to the scene where Xemnas just… grabs Kairi and runs away, and suddenly Kairi is as powerless as she was in kh1. And, that sucks.

Luckily in re:mind we get to fight as her and she FUCKING SLAPS, which is ALL THE MORE REASON SHE SHOULD GET A SOLO GAME NOMURA

Basically Kairi is one of the most important trios in the franchise, and she constantly gets sidelined and belittled. It made sense in kh1, but now she’s a keyblade wielder it’s just depressing.

And she’s the only guardian of light to not get more than a single battle of playtime. Sora… is the main character of the franchise. Riku gets a playable appearance every other game. The way finder trio got you to play their game three times through to give them all time to shine, and aqua even got a solo outing, Roxas had a whole game to himself and you could play Axel, Xion, Donald, Goofy, Mickey, and even the other members of organisation 13 in mission mode. But Kairi had a single battle in Kh3’s re:mind and a game where she’s the narrator (because you don’t ACTUALLY play as her, but as EVERY GODDAMN CHARACTER EXCEPT HER)

In a franchise that loves handing out spin offs to any character that breathes, it really sucks that such an integral, beloved, cool, and fun character doesn’t have their own game, or even a side story like Riku.

And this doesn’t even mention her personality, which kind of has deteriorated since kh1, where she genuinely was an incredible character don’t @ me.

It’s not your fault you’re bland Kairi, it’s Nomura’s 😔

Here’s to Kairi having agency as the franchise moves forwards. But with kh4 moving to another realm, once they’ve found Sora I don’t see what she’s gonna do. What she COULD do.

This is kind of difficult to describe, but I really love how Kingdom Hearts uses iconic objects as shorthand for conveying a specific meaning, emotion, idea, plot point, or character relationship.

The paopu fruit. The wooden sword. Kairi's lucky charm. Namine's star charm. The memory pods. The colored orbs from the Struggle trophy. Sea-salt ice cream. Olette's hand-made munny pouch. Kairi's message in a bottle. The sea shells Xion and Roxas gave to each other. The WINNER stick. Terra's wooden training Keyblade. The wayfinder charms. Etc.

Like, there's a reason why so many of these items feature heavily in fanart, you take one look at these items and go "Oh, I know exactly what this symbolizes!"

A bunch of sketches for the protag!kairi au! These are ideas and sketches that have been sitting on my computer that I’ve finally gotten an opportunity to clean up :) Tarzan is an interesting first world in KH and in terms of the AU I think perhaps Kairi could relate to Tarzan in someways. And I still like the idea that Kairi would still be working on the lucky charm or something happens to it that she needs to use materials from other worlds to fix/finish it. The others are more brainstorming for Riku and now Sora. I just can’t see Sora sitting doing nothing after he wakes up and so I think he would pester Leon into teaching him or, if he’s stuck in Traverse Town after the crew goes to Hollow Bastion, he’d take it upon himself to learn something about gummi ships and travel! He’d want to do as much as he can to help Kairi and save Riku! So, some sketches of him hanging out at the accessory shop and with Geppetto :)

Kairi:I hope you know it is my lucky charm. Sadly I wouldn’t say it’s entirely lucky…but I’d like to keep it for a while all the same.

Roxas:So I’m just down a keyblade!?

Xion:Imagine only having one keyblade.

Axel:Oh the horror.

Roxas:….

Xion:I can try making one, but I can’t promise it’ll be the same.

Axel:Just have Namine make a fake good luck charm that looks the same and holds the emotion weight.

Roxas:You can do that!?

Namine:*inhales*…..Yeah it’s possible.

Hello. It's me with more Soriku BrainRot ™️

When Riku dives into Sora's heart at the end of DDD, here are all of the platforms he passes while diving.

MOST of them include Riku, and at first I attributed this to "following the connection," however... there are a few memories that don't include Riku at all: Sora facing Darkside, Sora meeting Donald and Goofy, Sora with Hanger, Pants, and Omlette, Sora hold Kairis Lucky Charm, Sora fighting and merging with Roxas, etc.

Kairi isn't shown at all unless Riku is also there.

Oh... and I do have to mention the cardiac arrest inducing poetry that is the first platform being the two of them on the beach staring at the sky as kids, and the last one being them doing the same on the Dark Margin.

"It's a promise..."

I said I was going to color this one, wasn't I? 😊 So here it is, in all it's colorful glory (and I made the Inktober version my new blog header). I tried how the more cel-ish shading I did for some of my inktober pieces works with color, and I'm overall extremely happy how it turned out!!

For all those who haven't seen the original (and are too lazy for following the link), Sternentreue is the German name of Oathkeeper / Yakusoku no Omamori. I love this name because there is something really poetic about it: literally translated it means loyalty of / to the stars, but more figuratively, it can be interpreted as staying true to one's (chosen) destiny / promise.

Also, thanks to everyone who liked and reblogged / shared the original. I was stoked to see so many of you liked it, so... Thank you so, so much! 💗

I've finally decided to start writing my first fanfiction! The upcoming fanfiction will tell my version of Sora and Riku's love story throughout the entire Kingdom Hearts story

What will this fanfiction be like?

I haven't decided on the name of this fanfiction yet, so you have to suggest the title to me

This fanfiction will have a total of 10 chapters, in which 9 tell the story, while the last chapter describes the characters of this fanfiction

All chapters (except the last one) will have the Kingdom Hearts period as their title (except Coded), I have combined some periods into a single chapter

Chapter 1: Birth by Sleep

This chapter will be set on one side before the events of Birth by Sleep and on the other during the homonymous period

I also think it's really cool how the following video explains how in the scene where Kairi gives Sora her lucky charm, until said charm is actually needed in the scene it's kept below the stage... but the model itself is actually attached to Kairi's model because it pulses in time with her "heartbeats" while there.

And, I mean, I'm sure similar modeling stuff like this happens all the time in video games. Like, this user points out in his KHII video that a similar thing happens with Hercules and his sword. But with how important Kairi and her lucky charm are to the story--and how connected they are narratively--I felt that that was a very cool thing: that out of the only two times that this has happened so far (or that this user has mentioned, anyway, as so far he's only covered KHI and KHII), one of those times was Kairi and her lucky charm.

Spoilers for KH2 and 3:

I JUST BEAT KH2. And oh my GOSH Sora and Riku absolutely KICKING trash, riding some hover bike through space together and cutting buildings in half 😱 I was fangirling hard (I was screaming, lol)

Also, I’m dying. I knew what would happen at the end with the door to light and Sora turning into Roxas for a sec and Kairi into Naminé— but holy cow it’s totally different to see it in motion and not just read about it online or through the manga/novels. (Also everyone looked GOOD in those end scenes. Especially Roxas 🥹) I loved the way the way Sanctuary got all soft with Sora and Kairi’s interaction. 😭😭 And then how he kept the lucky charm ❤️ I shed a tear.

Okay okay, but when Sora and Riku are looking out at the waves together, and Riku’s like: “nothing’s changed, huh?” And Sora responds with “Nope. Nothing will.”

BECAUSE I PLAYED KH3 FIRST I JUST BROKE DOWN LIKE— Sora, you have no idea what’s gonna happen to you, you have no idea how much things are gonna change 😭😭😭 and the fact that he’s standing at the same place he’s going to fade at in 3.

Ughhhh, best KH ending ever. It’s a masterpiece.
