Kai knew Damon from high school cause he was a rather well-known member of the school's debate team and he wanted to ask him on the train in the prologue if he went to said high school cause he instantly recognized him but Damon didn't know/recognize him cause A. He didn't really care enough to know him or B. Kai looked completely different in high school then he did now. And when Kai was introducing himself to Damon, he got upset not because he didn't know him as an influencer, but also because he didn't know him from way back.

Project Eden's Garden Predictions

This is meant to be silly. Spoilers in post and in tags

There's a really big influencer light and Kai just walks right up to it and gets fried like a moth. Kai is a victim.

An area opens up with remote controlled RC cars. During the race, everyone hits the sand bags at least once. The sand bags start leaking pink. They open it like a cocoon. The butterfly was broken upon the wheel. Kai is a victim.

Toshiko forces Kai to watch teen rom-coms with her. Kai is a victim.

Grace goes "Screw you Damon. The man I shared a bed with is gone, so I'm killing the man you share a bed with." Kai is a victim.

Damon was supposed to die in Chapter 4. Kai becomes aware of the plan, but ends up dying himself to save Damon. This kickstarts a series of events (like the butterfly effect) that lead to Damon finally being fully into being part of the group and ending the killing game. Kai and his killer are treated as martyrs. Kai is a victim.

Same thing as above but Damon commits a murder instead. He gets away with it. It doesn't matter anyways. Kai was a victim.

Damon goes: "so how did the victim die?" Kai says: "Like this!" Kai is a victim.

Eloise is training late at night and sees Kai acting odd. A misunderstanding happens where she doesn't know it's Kai specifically. Still, she believes whoever she saw, which just happened to be Kai, was a horrible, irredeemable person. She makes him suffer. Kai is a victim.

Jean kills Kai for his attempt at French. Jean is a bigger victim. Kai is a victim.

A big plot involving handwritten murder notes pops up. Except the handwriting is atrocious (in trial, there's confusion whether it's Damon or Demond. Also Mark vs Ultimate Marksman). Kai ended up getting killed because the killer confused his last name with Grace's. Kai is a victim.

Diana gets Kai because chameleons eat butterflies and she was hungie. Kai is a victim.

Kai does a little hip bonk to get an item out of the machines. The machine falls over and breaks. Mara gets him. Kai is a victim.

The casts gets it into their heads that this situation is like V3. They totally consented, this is a television show, and all their fans are routing for them. Cassidy and Kai end up fighting to the death for the sake of their fanbase. Kai is a victim.

Someone pops Kai's pool inner tube. He does not float like a butterfly. Kai is a victim.

Ingrid knocks Kai upside the head with a horny jail hammer. And by that I mean sledgehammer. Kai is a victim.

Kai makes it to the very end where the garden itself is starting to crumble. They come across a statue of two men. The boulder that the Cain statue was holding falls. Kai is a victim.

Wenona wants to get out and somehow clocks Damon, Ulysses and Kai to be the only people smart enough to rat her out. Theres a sleepover between a lot of people in Ulysses room to try and research about where they are. The room fills with gas that Ulysses can't smell. The gas is denser than air. Kai, who was sleeping on the ground, is found before anyone else can be affected and the attempt at getting him to fresh air gets everyone else out of danger. Kai is a victim.

Jett goes "I like cars" and suddenly a car appears out of nowhere and hits Kai. Kai is a victim.

Kai begs Mark to listen to his super cool music idea. "Trust me it's so cool and you just have to make it but it's a billion dollar idea. I'll pay you in exposure. It'll totally pay for itself-" Kai is a victim.

"A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush". Two strangulation victims are found. You would think it would be the two women with bird motifs, but only one of them is. Kai is a victim.

It's a simulation. Kai is a bug in the program. Tozu removes him. Kai is a victim.

Kai discovers Mukuro Ikusaba. The sixteenth student, lying hidden somewhere in Eden's Garden. The one they call the Ultimate Despair. He didn't watch out for her. Kai is a victim.

Kai gets really messy in a bathroom with his hair dye. The pink smears make him look like the killer. The class gets it wrong and everyone is a victim. Kai is a victim.

Desmond is dared to hit a target. This triggers a trap which kills Kai. There is a debate over if whoever set the trap is the killer, or if whoever hit the target was the killer. Doesn't matter to Kai what the answer is. Kai is a victim.

Damon is too comfy cozy to get up. There is nothing containing Kai except for Damon sleeping on top of him. Kai starves to death. Kai is a victim.

damon ship warring is hard because the top three are all liluka coded. kaimon is literally snake x butterfly ship which happens due to Damon getting stuck with Kai and them eventually getting along. Then there's Diamon who are supposed to be foils in which Damon comes to realize the fact that Diana was the other person who wanted to trust him despite staying with the rest of the group and following Wolfgang's footsteps, and then Damon going completely against his survivalist loner personality in order to defend her in the trial. And there's also Maitsunaka where the two actually did get along but there was this whole thing with Eva having to lie against everyone because that's what she thought she had to do in order to ensure her survival and Damon eventually getting betrayed by her attempting to even frame him as the culprit, and how he had watch her die in a fiery gruesome pit of hell.

Rating Project: Eden's Garden ships (spoilers for CH1)

Disclaimer: Ships are meant to be fun and I find the Eden's Garden cast to be very shippable, so any ship that does not involve Toshiko is fine in my books!

Damon x Eva (Evamon): I don't care as much for them romantically as I do platonically, but Damon's comments about Eva tear my soul apart. Perhaps under different circumstances, their relationship could have evolved. 6.5-7/10

Damon x Desmond (Maithall): Honestly I love these two! Damon sees Desmond as "the only other normal person here" and their interactions could be interperted as Damon having a little bit of a crush on him ("Desmond's remarkable charm", etc. etc.). Not my no. 1 ship for either of him, but it's my og ship and I hope their dynamic evolves more! 8.5/10

Diana x Eva (Diava/Evana): On one hand... toxic yuri. On the other... not a fan. Nope. 2/10

Wolfgang x Grace (Wolfgrace): I like them, I wish we could have seen more of them. I think they are the first pairing I shipped when I played the prologue. Their personalities were total opposites in a way that made them compatible. I'm probably going to ship them more in the next chapter tbh, when I see how Grace is dealing with it. 8/10

Desmond x Ulysses: I've seen the ship exclusively on tiktok. Whilst I personally aren't too crazy about it, I can't deny it's cute! 6.8/10

Damon x Kai (Kaimon): My OTP, it's one of the most popular ships in the fandom for a reason (though I do feel basic about it hehe). I love them so so much!!! 28/10

Mark x Jett (What's their ship name??): They are so silly, though I can't tell if Mark is enjoying the company or not... Hm. 7/10

Wenona x Ulysses (Wenysses? Ulynona?): Didn't expect them, but they are a welcome surprise none the less!! I'm glad to see Wenona interacting positively with another character. I don't know if I prefer them as romantic or platonic, but I enjoy their pairing nonetheless! 7.5/10

Desmond x Eloise (Desloise): My second favourite ship from the game!! I love these two so so much, their characters fit together so seamlessly, like a glove to a hand!! 10/10

From the moment Eva mentioned "Bastilles and Basilisks" in her FTE, I knew she was truly a failgirl nerd.

Anyhow, I just finished Chapter 1 of Project: Eden's Garden. I figure I should just leaves my thoughts on it here since I'm prolly not drawing the rest of the cast, lmao.

Spoilers below the cut!!

So. Pretty ballsy to kill off the two most loved and probably most plot important characters. I'm not mad about it though, it makes sense. Their talents were far too useful to be left alive that long.

I LOVED Eva though. Even if she was probably being fake friendly during her FTEs and during the actual game, I still loved her. From the little "bweh" she does and how her voice gives "Erm, akshually ☝️🤓" vibes, to her hatred of her Ultimate title and desperation to be recognized and loved.

In that desperation, though, she failed to see the people who WERE trying to understand and get closer to her. She dug her own grave by lying about her title, inciting people to distrust her. The explanation she gave Damon (why she lied about such a thing) being a farce is up for debate, but I like to believe she was telling the truth. Eva is a lot of things, but she is first and foremost a scared, lonely child.

Of course, she's not entirely innocent. Her ego is off the charts. If it weren't for her title as the Ultimate Mathlete, I think she'd probably become the Byakuya of the game lol.

Originally I didn't like her execution, but then I realized the whole fire thing is because of the phrase "Liar, liar, pants on fire". Very devious. Plus the whole "desperately running away from fated death" using an escalator and a fire pit is a very fitting punishment for someone who wants to run from their Ultimate title. Throwing math equipment at her was just salt in the wound lmao.

Overall, I'm satisfied with how Eva's story played out. She could've lived a better life, but that's what fanfics are for babyyy.

Uhhh okay less on Eva. Wolfgang and Grace?? Never saw that coming. They're pretty cute though! I saw their room and jokingly said "Oooo getting freaky, are we?", so I was shocked to find that they were indeed, getting freaky. Still adorable!

SPRAKING OF ADORABLE!! Kai and Damon. Kaimon. They were literally roommates. I didn't get it at first when it was only the prologue, but I have seen the light. RIP to all the Wolfgang x Damon and Eva x Damon shippers though, lmao.

I feel like we have a new opportunity for a tragic yuri ship with Diana and Eva, though. They weren't together a lot, but I feel like in a different universe, Diana could've been the one to reach out to Eva and give her a friend. *points at Eva* Lesbianism could save her.

Ough okay that's all the thoughts I have rn. Maybe I'll come up with more later, when I'm more awake to verbalize stuff. For now I crawl back into my hole and read ao3.

I saw someone mention Kaimon feeling forced and I just wanted to hop in and say that all the Project : Eden's Garden ships feel weirdly unnatural to an extent. Like all their scenes are in the background and we just have to believe they're super close all of a sudden??? The ships themselves aren't bad tbh, but theres definitely better ways to do them.

Like for Kaimon, they could have made it so that every other character had already paired up, and these two, due to not really socializing a whole lot and being generally distrusting (Damon more so but also Kai freaks out about the possibility of Jett and Cassidy planning something in one of his FTEs), don't end up picking roommates and get stuck with each other by default (Eva's already with Diana), and at first they're both kinda opposed to it like in canon, but its safer, and then they kinda start hanging out with each other?

Them ending up together cause of both of them being distrusting is way better than them just ending up together cause of rock paper scissors tbh. Cause like, say if Damon won his round, then he'd be with Desmond and Kai'd be with Jean, and they'd never really interact (I can see Kai offering to switch dorms with someone else cause he mentions he thinks Jean's scary in one of his FTEs, but he'd probably end up rooming with Desmond instead of Damon in that case tbh). It makes all their interactions based on being roommates if they had no agency in said decision and ended up being forced to do it based on the whims on the creator.

Likewise, Jett and Mark also doesn't really make sense. Why doesn't Jett just try to become best friends with someone like Cassidy, who's nice to him and actually shares his interests? They even hosted the gaming tournament together. I kinda hope that this specific one ends up as a Hifumi-and-Celeste-esque relationship rather than just ending up either one-sided, Mark being like "Wait, dammit I actually cared about this guy" and getting a character arc if Jett dies. There's probably some way to give them positive development tbh but I don't really think these two are gonna get developed together without a side of death and murder.

Wenona & Ulysess and Desmond & Eloise also don't really have other stuff going for them other than referencing eachother in dialogue and random clues that they like eachother. The first pair are probably gonna develop next chapter and the second are likewise probably gonna develop next chapter so I have hopes for them, but I'm also worried they're gonna skip the beginnings of their relationships and just go straight to "These guys would sacrifice themselves for eachother but this is actually only revelant in one trial and no one is gonna see any bonding moments of them together".

Wolfgang and Grace... knew eachother for a few days and didn't have many on-screen camera moments. I kinda hope Grace talks about him in the mainstory (or FTEs for that matter) and stuff they did together, because right now they don't have the depth of relationship they're supposed to have. It's a bit unrealistic for them to already have become that close, and Wolfgang did lie to Grace about being sick, plus whatever he was gonna do to the person who had his blackmail with that knife, but I'll take what I can get.

I don't really have a lot to say about the other duos tbh, they exist and thats mostly it. Also it generally feels so boxing (??) to have characters basically relegated to only having a relationship with another character and not getting any other interactions with any other character at all. It makes their characters that much more 2D based on how they don't get to be friends with anyone other than the one character they're allowed to know (plus Damon).

The duo stuff also sucks for characters like Kai and Diana who're gonna be focused on in the main story, and will therefore have their main relationship be with Damon. Because while other characters at least get 2 dynamics (for example Mark has interactions with Jett *and* Damon, Toshiko has them with Ingrid *and* Damon), they only get them with Damon and literally no one else. This also gives them less room for exploration of their themes. At least with Eva she had a reason to not be entangled with most the characters, and still had stuff with Damon, Wolfgang and sort-of Diana as well. Also, this is even worse for characters like Cassidy and Jean, who don't even get meaningful interactions and fleshed out dynamics with any other character outside of the protagonist in FTEs.

It also feels like the creators have ideas they want to input, but those ideas never make it into the story, and because of this, unless you look at the official accounts' arts and stuff, you don't really get to pick up on what they're going for. The pairings aren't inherently bad but they could really use some screentime and work. Instead, they just end up feeling like vague ideas left over from development.

TLDR : The pairings of characters in Project : Eden's Garden feel too unnatural due to lack of screentimes. They're kinda like vague ideas that never *really* made it past development but just stayed in the creator's mind. Also, the idea of duos that the characters are in is really restricting and harmful to the characters rather than helping them and just makes organic interactions less likely.

That being said, I love Project : Eden's Garden and all it's characters. I am thoroughly invested in them and I really can't wait for the next chapter. The story is really good, and I don't mind that some of the symbolisms are a bit on-the-too (like Eva = Eve). This is my first proper fanganronpa game and I'm really excited to make theories and see it unfold. Also, sorry for making this so long.

"Probably some kind of ship, something like that." Kai had casually answered, hunched over Damon's shoulder and peeking at the same screen.

"First of all, that doesn't answer my question." Damon deadpanned. "Second of all, what's this "ship", anyways? I have not heard that word once in my life."

"Oh. My. God. Have you been living under a rock?" Kai had gaped in shock, though unsurprised about his lack of knowledge on the topic. "Anyways," he continued, "a ship is essentially like a romantic pairing, I guess. With characters. Usually fictional, though some weirdos do that with real folks."

"Ah."

"I haven't heard of this ship, though. And trust me, I know literally every ship on this platform."

"Uh-huh. And what relevance does that have to me, again?"

"Well..." Kai had hinted, his eyes virtually sparkling in anticipation, "I could maybe check what the hype's all about. Can I see on your phone?"

"Whatever, sure."

Damon lazily tapped his finger on the Trending tag, and left the Twitter page to load, averting his eyes while Kai kept his glued to the screen.

Five seconds later, however, Kai looked like his jaw dropped on the floor.

"Bro, Damon. You have to see what this is."

Damon reluctantly brought his eyes back to his phone, and grimaced at the resulting image. Not as gobsmacked as Kai, but just as averse on the mere idea of it.

"So. You're telling me that your people... ship me with you now." he mouthed in disbelief, clearly not believing his own words.

i like maithall but it has like next to zero thematic relevance. evamon adam and eve. akiretsu wolfmon whatever- its christ and the devil. kaimon The Butterfly effect and kai as a character bringing out the more emotional and vulnerable side of Damon. desmond has Eloise who is Literally His Foil. No. My brain latches onto the SINGLE dialogue you get if you get one question wrong during the chapter 1 trial. this pairing feels like it should be a crack ship. its probably not gonna get anymore content outside of chapter 1...
