Kagerou Project References ~ Novel II Timeline Notes (credit to: here / translator / summarizer: zkmn) from “- a headphone actor -”, Yuukei Yesterday III, Japanese version*: (timeline notes by a much older 2k12 era translator): (emphasises / bolding / italics / etc. mine) (*please understand they were using the Japanese edition as a reference + translating / summarizing from it) (friendly reminder re: official Routes order:) [ Music (+”extra editions”) -> Manga -> Novels -> ??? MCA [Anime] ??? is the “closest to the latter” - Jin -> any ??? etc.? -> ] (*please note MCA does not have an official timeline listed in the Kagerou Project 2016 guide unlike the others linked) (*Children Record is also the “opening theme” of the project as a whole**) (*Summertime Record is also the “ending theme” of the project as a whole**) [**...thus far]

It’s the middle of summer. [present day]

After (!!!) the school festival, Takane and Haruka became second year students.

At the moment, they’re in school for a summer course (extra lessons)

Which is more like working through a gigantic pile of practice questions

After the festival ended, Takane and Haruka cleaned up the classroom. (Some various exchanges occured between them and Kenjirou here) (see the linked summary for further notes but please remember) (this was 2k12 era and many later plot things weren’t revealed yet)

Unlike Takane, academics-wise, Haruka’s good enough to not need to come for summer classes, but because his attendance record is dismal, he has to come anyway.

She remembers that last Christmas* [*timeframe], Haruka came up with a plan for a Christmas party and got her and Kenjirou to join in. Since it was his birthday* as well, [*December 24th, Christmas Eve] she thought to give him a surprise by buying him a nice present… but on the day itself, he had an attack and collapsed. [*basically, Haruka’s birthday had passed here.]

Since he was rushed to hospital soon after, he turned out fine, and got discharged after a week*… [*so he is discharged by Dec. 31st or January 1st or so?] but then one month later* it happened again. [*February?] This time it didn’t get better as quickly, and he couldn’t leave hospital for a month* or so. [*March?...]

They both managed to move on to the next year of school (becoming 2nd year high school students)*, [*April 1st is when the Japanese school year begins] but Haruka’s condition seemed to become worse and his attacks happened more frequently.

Back to present day*. [*”middle of summer”] Haruka has another attack etc.

She heads back to the classroom, and someone calls out to her. It’s Ayano… seems like she came for summer classes too.

Even though [Ayano*]’s only in the first year*, [*of JAPANESE HIGH SCHOOL] her results are terrible

Deciding that this is not a good topic, Takane asks about Shintarou because she doesn’t see him nearby. According to Ayano, his results are good so he doesn’t need summer classes.

this is also the part where Ayano implies [convey your feelings] to Takane

Takane reaches the classroom again after parting with Ayano. Gets the flash of inspiration to tell her feelings to Haruka. But, right after, she has her attack.

She can barely move now. In her fading vision she sees someone standing at the end of the corridor, someone who shouldn’t be here… and she thinks, it took too long for her to realize. It took too long for her to say—”—Haruka, I love you.”

Headphone Actor IV, a next chapter + commences.

“Takane” is waking up and taking note of her surroundings, yells out etc.

"Takane” hears [KENJIROU’S VOICE] talking-

“……1 is a success. Haha……to think that I’d succeed on the first try. It did take a year to prepare.”

“Takane” can see from the other side of the “screen” her body as well as

Haruka’s avatar, Konoha...

Once again she hears “Kenjirou’s voice” talking.

“Anyway, I have the “key” now. With this, I can reopen the next “Kagerou Daze”. Konoha……you’re still……”

Timeline Notes (briefly, not counting the official Routes): takane & haruka are 1st year high school students during the year of the school festival -> (shintaro & ayano are a year below, so, they’re still junior high school 9th graders, “14-going-on-15″ IF we didn’t have the conflicting ages issue going on. the conflicting ages issue means during this timeframe point they might be 15 here using the conflicting ages - but they’re conflicting ages for a reason. because they conflict with the real-world based timeline.) (kido, kano, & seto are all in the same grade, and a year below shintaro & ayano. meaning junior high school 8th graders during this particular timeframe, i.e. the year of Takane & Haruka’s school festival. the japanese school year begins in april and ends in march. birthday order is kano (may) -> kido (next january) -> seto (next march). thus, kano is the oldest of the trio and closest in age to shintaro & ayano, while seto’s the youngest, and kido is some months younger than kano.) (MOMO particularly is a year below Kido, Kano & Seto. during the timeframe of August 15ths, Momo can only be 15 chronologically if going by the real-world timeline, thus, her age particularly conflicts.) [*please see: Japanese school year reference for typical real-world ages. ] [*please see my FAQ for more on the conflicting ages issue!!] the school festival happens -> before this years’ christmas, haruka got the idea for the christmas party -> on the day of his birthday itself, has an attack and collapses -> rushed to the hospital “soon after”, discharged “after a week” so a week post-haruka’s birthday -> one month later it happens again -> haruka can’t leave the hospital for another month or so -> in spring, / April 1st, takane & haruka become 2nd year high school students -> taking summer courses / extra lessons during the middle of summer -> ayano meanwhile is still in the 1st year + with shintaro also as a 1st year, but shintaro isn’t taking the summer classes -> ayano tells takane to tell her feelings before it’s too late [convey our feelings while we’re still alive] -> right after this encounter takane is inspired to confess to haruka takane runs off to do so -> has an attack and passes out -> wakes up wherever “kenjirou’s voice” is / his lab -> “kenjirou’s voice” talking -> kenjirou mentions he “prepared for a year” -> takane sees konoha -> “Anyway, I have the “key” now. With this, I can reopen the next “Kagerou Daze”. Konoha……you’re still……” -> takane encounters [her snake] -> haruka: does not reach his next birthday [december 24th] [”the middle of summer” -> cue all the rest + August 15ths ] -> takane’s birthday: still “ ??? ” (non-existent) + in Yuukei Yesterday I as an aside note, Takane slept for “11 hours”. (this occurs during the time period where the school is still preparing for the school festival / the novels’ start.) - Takane told her grandmother “yesterday” (this occuring before the sleeping for 11 hours bit, that is, she wakes up and refers to “yesterday”) that she wanted tamagoyaki for lunch. - Headphone Actor I chapter is placed before Yuukei Yesterday chapters in chapter order. - The voice [”her own”, coming from Takane’s headphones] asks her - isn’t there a place you need to go? Isn’t there something you need to tell someone?

favorite thing about them: good god i love her personality! the mom friend is always my type of favorite character and i just can't don't love her. also the different story really fits her character well, so i guess i should say her tds personality

least favorite thing about them: i'm feeling like a sinner saying this, but her design... in anime this looks not bad, but when i'm reading manga i'm just- i swear, when i'm drawing her i'm never using her official design, i have my redesign instead (maybe i'll post this. maybe.)

random headcanon: she's trans girl and lesbian! i don't know how to comment first, but for second i'm gonna say what i think: her first love interest was kyoko, but when she left her she started feeling something for madoka (anime timeline)/sayaka (tds) and then sayaka/madoka. finally she also crushes homura and she realized she literally can love any of her friend so she never would confess first, she's waiting for someone to say this to her because she don't care with who she would end in rest of her life. she's just 'friends hot.'

August 15th Recap

Another year gone by, another August 15th where hardcore fans, people who never post about kagepro, and dead accounts alike rise from the depths and put Kagerou Project #1 on Trending for 24 hours. This one was pretty uneventful, but if anyone missed anything, I’ll recap everything the English-speaking community knows happened on the 15th.

notes: this timeline will be using Japan time for hours, and information from the secret event is not allowed to be released yet.

8/15 - 7:00 am: Information about how to enter the secret event is posted to the Edword Records twitter. The secret event is split up into two parts and you get in by displaying the QR code you received if you were chosen (there were so many applicants they had to make getting tickets a lottery) Part 2 starts at 1:30 pm.

8/15 - 1:30 pm: Shouichi Taguchi, (aka sentimental vector), the artist who sang Kagerou Days in the Mekakucity Actors soundtrack, uploaded a piano arrangement cover of Kagerou Days to YouTube

8/15 - 1:50 pm: Attendees of the secret event start telling the internet that they’re not allowed to talk about what happened at the secret event on social media

8/15 - 2:15 pm: Kagerou Daze Day hits trending on Japanese twitter

8/15 - 5:30 pm: Kagerou Project hits #1 on trending on tumblr.

8/15 - 6:30 pm: It’s announced on the Edword Records twitter that both parts of the secret event have ended.

8/15 - 6:30 pm: The Mekakucity Quest website is made public. It’s translated here. The game is an arg-kind-of puzzle game that you need to get a ticket and go to Enoshima to play. You get a mystery-solving kit use that and the LINE app to do various things and solve mysteries with the help of Kagepro characters to and get clear benefits. The story is that you’re a tourist of Enoshima and suddenly Ene pops up on your phone, asks for help, and disappears. Shintarou calls you and asks for your help in saving her. The event starts in September and goes until November.

8/15 - 6:30 pm: Jin announces that Kagerou Daze No. 9 will be screening in January 2020. He calls it a spin-off work for the first time, and says that it will be taking on a different angle than regular Kagerou Project stuff. In this tweet an image of a new Kagepro character is linked, and he credits sayuki for designing her. He thanks sayuki for bringing us a new character after such a long time. The image in question is below.

8/15 - 6:45 pm: It’s announced via the Edword Records twitter that there’s a huge poster of the new character in Nishihama beach, where they’re holding Mekakucity Seaside. The poster is just the one above but very slightly zoomed out and one other very minor difference

8/16 - 2:30 pm: Kagerou Project rapidly drops from trending on tumblr, moving from #1 place to not trending at all in minutes.

8/16 - 4:45 pm: Jin posts two drawings, thanking everyone for voting a lot for the Kagepro Song Popularity poll. The results are going to be announced in a manga which is in production at the time of the tweet. He also says "The gang is on a rampage now. Please wait a little more until the announcement! The one who isn’t in the gang is also rampaging.” credit to @fuyuyuu for the translation of that tweet. The images on the tweet are shown below. Also the art style of these images looks completely new and I think we might have a new artist

8/16 - 8:30 pm: Jin says that the Kagerou Daze. No. 9 Logo and the poster in Enoshima were designed by Jun Watanabe. He says that Jun helped him with various works,including NIRVANA, and that he wants to work together in the future.

Despite being so different, the Ayano in most routes and the manga Ayano, who became Shintaro's Snake of Retaining Eyes, really are similiar, huh... Listening to Additional Memory again, I realised this. Though the song shows how the usual Ayano, while stuck in the Heat Haze, forces herself to ignore her own feelings in order to erase proof that she lived, if you really think about it, the same situation can be said for the manga route 02's Ayano. After she gave up everything and became the Snake of Retaining Eyes, I'm certain she also had to bury her own emotions. And so, it became a story where nobody knew her own existence as Ayano Tateyama, except herself - and the proof she once existed as her own self is forbidden in this tale. Man, Ayano really has it rough, no matter which timeline... On another note, happy Kagerou Day! And gosh, it's really been a long time since I've uploaded something... I've got several pieces, some half-finished, some in the sketching stages, that I've been working on for a while, but honestly...I've just been so burnt out. Honestly, I had even forgotten about Kagerou Day until yesterday, when I saw a sudden influx of more kagepro art out of nowhere. So in all honesty, this is something that I ending up rushing with, but I still can't believe I managed to make this so quickly! It really feels nice to complete a drawing for once lol. I’ll do what what Kiki did and post titles of my WIPs with comments and short fragments of them? I’ll share here only my kagepro WIPs (so basically kidokano/Kano ones lol). A little warning before we start: it’s going to be very long lol bc I can’t finish fics to save a live and I have... lots of ideas, plus I never get to talk about them >.> Also they’re going to be getting gradually worse bc I’ll go from newest to ancient-est. (Full disclosure tho, those aren’t raw quotes from my WIPs bc some had so visible grammar errors, I just had to fix them + I always put notes in my works, like every second word lol) Here we go.

Comment: This is the freshiest one, I was writing bits of it merely the day before, and because of that I still naively believe I will finish and post it soon, so I won’t say anything more about it.

“Haha like what?” he laughed with bitter sounding laugh, something that must had slipped as it was followed by a face she had occasion to see only a few times- a face of regret. Regret of choosing wrong words, wrong mask to put on or forgetting to put her at all.

Comment: Just a short fluff where Kano’s snarky bottomness is showing lol

“You should’ve asked ‘Can you kiss me?’ instead.”

Kano is dumbfounded for a few seconds before he snorts.

“Right.” he begins with a playful grin “Let me fix that. Can you, Kido Tsubomi, the fierce leader of Mekakushi Dan, my girlfriend, my sun, my stars, the love of my life, the love of my thousands other lives, do me an absolute honor and light up my da-“

He didn’t even manage to finish before he felt the pair of soft lips landed on his, catching his words.

New chapter

Comment: Won’t say much about it because it’s supposed to be a gift for certain someone~ But here’s a little sneak peek 👀

That was weird. They never really talked about having any pets. They talked about having kids (as much as stating that they want to make a family together during several separate occasions counts), but the topic of having pets was never brought up and in a timespan of living together and even moreso of living alone together, they already had plenty of opportunities to get one. And yet Kano always knew that when Kido pictured their future family together there was also present a small ball of fur waving its tail and he could see it in her eyes at that moment more visibly than ever.

Comment: I was very disappointed with the knkd fanwork of that one Halloween art, so I decided to write something that would satisfy me (with no success so far rip).

The black figure that merged with the ubiquitous dark hanged up the big scythe they were holding on the wall, among the collection of similar but different in sizes scythes, proceeded to take off their shoes (but then put them quickly back on, changing their mind as soon as their feet met with the concrete) and pulled off the black hood of their cloak to reveal the long green hair, something that finally stood out in the darkness, before walking deeper into the room.

I can’t wait to fall in love with you

Comment: Inspired by well, that one sentence that is in the title and lowkey (?) by Meli’s lovely fic~ It’s the kind of fic that I myself call “(not) soulmates au”. It revolves around the idea that after so many timelines of falling in love with each other, they’re just bound to fall in love again... Even when they don’t remember their past lives...

“Oh man, I can’t wait to fall in love with you.” Kido turned her gaze towards the blond lying next to her on the couch. Her widened from being taken aback by his statement eyes met his golden, cat-like ones, tinted with the strange warm spark that she could feel she had yearn for a very long time. It lasted only a second though because soon her brows furrowed and her gaze dropped from those well-too-familiar (given the circumstances) eyes to her hands.

Two cats

Comment: Set in the sort of the au where they never died? On one winter day Kano takes stray cat to his house to take care of. It’s solely Kano fic btw.

Forgetting for a moment about his own advice (why he should had kept repeating it in his head) he looked over his shoulder to see if his stalker was still there and in that moment their gazes lock. “Crap.” He couldn’t help but think ‘curiosity killed the cat’ as a pair of similar eyes to his stared back at him.

Comment: Product of my procrastination. (As you may tell, I have a problem with it). One year I was slightly~ more productive and was kinda disappointed that I didn’t manage to write Christmas fic. So then I thought that I could save some time and write this fic where Kido has joint Birthday-NewYear party with Christmas decorations still lying around (including mistletoe *cough cough*) just in time for KidoKano Day killing not two, but even four birds with one stone. It’s sort of high school au btw.

“Hi.” The boy tried again. His face was embellished with wide grin and slightly flashed cheeks and in his hand she noticed a can of beer. Oh no.

“Hi, Kano.” She said with disinclination. It wasn’t like she didn’t like the guy. Even more, in the normal situation, like average day in the school, she would find a conversation with him a nice or refreshing thing. He was one of a few people that actually knew about her existence and despite her previous prejudice he turned out to be a pretty nice guy.

Christmas Event

Comment: I’m not sure what Christmas event that was for lol.

For Kano it was this time of a year when his Mother would stay home the whole day instead of going to work and she would be more kind to him. Though he wouldn’t call it exactly this way (it’s not like he felt she wasn’t kind to him normally after all), but she was definitely more forgiving.

Affectionate meme Requests

Comment: Requested for the writing meme in the year 2016. Keeps it as a reminder of how big loser I am (?) (just what this post manages to do so far lol) The prompt was “love bite” >.>

From her spot she couldn’t see him quite clear, due to the still turned off lights, so it was only up to her imagination to decide whether he recollected his mask or not. Maybe it was the second after all, because excluding two golden eyes that shone at her there were two bright spots that stood out in the dark, both marked on his skin.

Comment: It was supposed to be male!Kido x Kano fic and yeah... I’m emberassed about it tbh. Like, by the fact I wanted to write it itself. Idk now I find it rather weird to genderbend only one person from the pairing, especially in the fic and for that reason I won’t share fragment from it. Sadly it’s one of my better written pieces lol and going back to it I see I made male!Kido no differnt from the regular Kido... which makes it a good genderbend I guess, but also completely unnecessary.

Angsty Kano fic

Comment: I have no idea lol There’s almost nothing written there.

Even Greater Fear

Comment: Despite what title may suggest it’s more fluffy than angsty. KanoKido family fluff where Kano gets anxious about how happy he is now and that he might someday lose it too. Featuring my knkd fankids, Naoki and Reika.

“Mom, dad is sad!” announced Reika with reproach. This she wasn’t expecting.

“What?” Tsubomi asked out of surprise and was followed by a low groan coming from behind the couch that could belong only to her beloved husband.

“No, I’m not.” She watched how the expressions of her children slowly changed from the ones of concern to the ones of disappointment and disgust.

“And he’s denying it.”

Comment: Silly engagement scenario. If I ever finish that, it'll be my comedic genius’ peak I swear (?)

He was clearly getting more nervous, the longer the searching wasn’t bringing any results. He let go of Kido’s hand and got his another one to help him search for whatever was supposed to be in that pocket. However, after a while his movements completely stopped and with some kind of dread in the eyes he whispered under his breath, “It’s gone.”

Time

Comment: Angsty setomary fic I wanted to write for SetoMary Spring (anyone remember that?)

When she moved out to her new family the first thing she noticed was that time has significantly slowed down. Oddly, somehow it did accelerate at the same time. It was hard to explain and she herself couldn’t understand the feeling nor did she give it much consideration, but for the first period of living in that new world, new pace of that very activity- living- has struck her.

One in a million

Comment: An actual soulmates au (with the variation of the red thread concept). It’s way too ambitious for me lol (starting with the fact that it’s supposed to be multi-chapter story). I won’t share a fragment of it bc not much’s written and bc tbh there would be spoilers, in case I ever do post it. I could write about the concept in a seperate post though because I did a lot of world-building for it. (A lot for me, ok?)

Clear and present

Comment: Ghost AU. Baby Kano hides one time in the abandoned, partly burned mantion and that’s where he meets the ghost of (scary) green-haired teenage girl he befriends. Somehow got inspired by that anthology comic? Also I would listen to this song while attempting to write it lol. Not much was written though.

What I didn’t

Comment: This one’s rare. My only attempt at writing harutaka fanfic. (Funnily enough last safe was on kidokano day?... many years ago.) In the manga Takane was pretty excited to give Haruka a present for his birthday, but he had an attack and was hospitalized so she didn’t and it wasn’t said (?) if she ever gave it to him later. So my idea for this fic was that she didn’t and how she was now trying to give it to him after three years. Took huge inspiration from this song: {x}

She didn’t have to wait long until there were heard slow, but at the same time hurried footsteps behind the door and soon it was followed by the sound of doors being unlocked. The doors before her opened revealing the light-brown-haired boy wearing excited smile and slightly oversized green sweater with embroidered reindeer. And one of these was just the warmest thing in this cold winter world.

Sneeze like a kitten

Comment: Inspired by one line from Gravity Falls lol It was just another thing I wanted to add to list of similarities between Kano and cats and I’m sure it would bring Kido joy too ;3 But as much as I still find this idea cute it is so awkwardly written lol. I kinda appreciate that it’s from Rin’s POV and that I tried using kinda fancier English for that reason (as fancy as I knew back then lol), but I guess first person fics will always sound weird. It’s set in a different route I guess where they sort of met before the orphanage.

Soon I noticed all her glances seemed to be directed at small boy with blond hair sitting alone on the bench, a little away from the playground. At first I was fairly surprised, not understanding why this particular boy had become her spot of interest, but giving more attentive look at the boy made me instantly realize reasons of her intent glances.

Connection

Comment: I have almost nothing written there and I barely remember it, but from what I can see it must be my original idea for the “formal event” prompt from the very first kanokido week. I... think it was sort of an au where they never died and they met at some sort of fancy party held by Kido’s parents where Kano was a waiter.

Oof that’s all (I mean all from the folder on my pc, but I won’t be getting into that). For a fair portion of it, I gotta objectively say there’s absolutely zero chance of me ever finishing them, but then (aside from the freshest ones that I still have on my mind) revisiting all those WIPs made me really want to revive some of them owo (some I would have to completely re-write tho OTL)

Agony

Summary: I have lived thousands of timelines. I have been the cause of the distress and pain and misery. I have been the one ending each timeline. I laugh and dance and laugh and dance when the world ends and repeats- but two souls cry soundlessly inside me.

Konoha wails.

Being the pathetic little kid he is, he just pulls his legs to his chest and covers his ears. I laugh. I laugh and crash his friends' skull and make them scream. The blood, the pain, the tears, I love every second of crashing their dreams and lives.

The first breaking point is when I kill the ghost. I pull her purple hair and She –and Konoha – scream loudly in my ears. I can only laugh at how easy it is to break these pitiful creatures.

"Stop, she's my friend!"

Friend? As if it can be possible. I crash the ghost's head to prove a point to him. Konoha cries helplessly and covers his eyes. I laugh and laugh when I hear the thief and the deceiver cry in agony.

"Kido!"

The ghost has a name, has a family. But no more. None of this can stop me from killing her over and over again, and making the queen reset the time. What’s the importance of their lives and the pitiful details they put in every time? None of them matters when I kill them. Nothing can save them.

Next is the little boy that Konoha feels a strong connection with. I recall his memories, being trapped in daze and watching him die over and over again. Konoha's breath stutters.

"No, no please… please not him…."

How should I kill him then? Throw him in front of a truck and see the familiar terror in their eyes? choke him to death? Stomp over him? Shoot him? Which will cause more pain? I move to grab him throat when the deceiver throws himself in front of me.

So the little mouse is going bold again, huh.

Not anymore.

"Please," Konoha whimpers and begs, and I feel the familiar rush of excitement when I put the gun over the deceiver's head and smile at him. The queen is shocked; I can see it into her eyes. she hasn't started crying yet.

"what would you do to save them?" I ask, looking at queen but also asking it from Konoha. Both of them let out a frightened sob.

"Please!"

"I'll do anything!"

I pull the trigger and laugh and laugh when they both fall on their knees.

II.

Haruka shouts.

He's a fighter, I'm surprised. How he can even scream in my head is a mystery to me. I like it. I like strong people. Breaking them is more fun, and I let the laughter bubble inside my throat.

"don't you dare touch her, don't you dare!"

He pushes and fights. He's trying to regain control over my body- Konoha's body, his body.

I look at the unconscious girl, the subject of Haruka's distress. There are lots of wires around her head and body, trapping her in virtual life. I gently touch her cheek and Haruka starts shouting again.

Oh, how I love the waver in their voices while I'm crushing their hopes and dreams.

I pull the wires and the girl's eyes snap open immediately, her eyes are frightened and her heart is beating like a frightened animal.

"Takane… Takane!"

Haruka keeps pushing and screaming her name, and I wonder what can break him, what can push him to the edge so he can't move from sorrow and pain.

"who are you?" The girl asks with badly hidden shaky voice. She tries to act confident and powerful when she can't even register where she is- her eyes keep darting around the place and me, and the gun I have in my hand.

"Takane… run!"

I can see it in her eyes. the fear, the dread, the slow registration.

"Ko-…. Kono-…"

I smile.

Haruka is panting, I can feel the fear and anticipation running in his body. My smile only grows. I lean over her and murmur in her ear,

"Haruka said hi."

Her eyes widen as I pull the trigger and laugh. The girl looks drop dead cold on the bed and blood colors the white sheets.

Haruka's screams are the most delicious sound I've ever heard.

III.

Haruka and Konoha scream together.

I'm standing in front of the neet boy, unable to move an inch.

"Don't do this, please-"

"You won't kill him, I swear-"

My whole body is pushed backward when they both scream in unison,

"he's my friend!"

Sweat gathers around my temples as I try to fight these idiots. Idiot, stubborn, pitiful humans. Will they ever learn? Will they ever stop trying and fighting the power running their lives?

Maybe that's why I like crushing them, revealing the harsh truth that nothing is stable. The only thing that keeps repeating in their lives, is the snakes and the queen gathering them. I am the one in power. I am playing with them.

I look at the neet again, who's looking at me with concerned eyes. he's standing in front of the others- the ghost, the attracter, the queen. Their eyes are full of concern and fear. I hate it. I hate it. Are they pitying me? They're the pitiful ones, especially the neet- the one who's entire existence is bound to one person, one girl, the one who's mocking me by staying in the daze.

I won't let them ever mock me.

I clutch my chest and try to control the screaming sounds resonating in my head.

"Not him, not Shintaro-"

"I won't let you-"

I let a smile emerge. The neet's eyes widen, and I know that my smile has frightened him. oh, if you only knew what I'm about to do. I will kill everyone. I will shower in their blood and dance over their corpse- I will torture the neet only to prove a point to the sounds in my head. To prove that I'm the one in control.

"You won't!"

They scream simultaneously and suddenly my body is moving on his own. We are all in control at the same time- we try to move and take control but to no effort.

We put the gun over our head, and smile a teary one. The neet is scared, not knowing what is happening.

"Shintaro-kun… Please take care of the others for me."

The neet takes a deep breath, his eyes going wide from surprise as we pull the trigger and the world goes dark.

(Please Note: This is an OLD post gathering notes on the various canon timelines and including some of my own theories. For the most part, the information hasn’t changed too much upon me making this post, but I’ve included a ‘read more’ for easier browsing.)

Ayano [as Japanese 10th grader] initially ‘dies’ / enters the Daze.

Does not happen in Manga Route 2

Instead, the Mekakushi Trio kick her out due to disagreeing with her later revealed motives.

Has not yet had her birthday (Nov 22nd) due to dying August 15th. Chronologically would be 15 years old at death.

Shintaro is in the same school year as her, however, he’s already had his birthday [April 30; Japanese school year begins April 1st] so he would be the older one. He’s still in the same school year as her, which contains the ages of 15~16.

(Ayano would chronologically be closer to 15 when she initially ‘dies’; Shintaro already 16. They’re still close in age.)

Haruka [11th grade] initially ‘dies’.

Konoha is ‘born’ as a separate being. has an ‘immortal body’

Haruka remains trapped in the Daze.

Has not yet had his birthday (December 24) due to dying August 15th. Chronologically between 16 and 17 years old, but still has some 4-5 months left until his birthday, compared to Ayano and Hibiya (both November / earlier).

Konoha: appears created within the Daze.

Likely August 15th.

Unknown if he “chooses” a birthday like Mary does.

As of most major Routes / timelines, does not appear to reach December 24th, much less October.

Takane [11th grade; same as Haruka] initially ‘dies’.

Becomes Ene. ‘immortal spirit’

Momo is in Junior high school [as an 8th grader.]

The Mekakushi Trio “leave the Tateyama household”

This occurs in pretty much every major Route.

However, it is much more notable during Manga Route 2.

Spring of the present year: Momo enters high school.

Going chronologically, it’s only possible for Momo to be 15 at the start of the series. [conflicting age] “ ——I had just enrolled at this school this spring.” - Momo, Kisaragi Attention chapter [Novels Route]

This is when Momo would have her 15th birthday

February 14th - Momo’s birthday.

“ the year before last year ” - Momo’s high school is remodeled. “ The year before last year, the four-story school was rebuilt and designed in a western style; a uselessly fashionable building.” - Momo, Kisaragi Attention chapter [Novels Route] (i.e. Momo is clarifying she enrolled in the spring, while “the year before last year”, the same school was remodeled before she entered it.)

(about) “ 5 years ago ”

Momo (primary schooler) drowns at the beach, her and Shintaro’s father being the price for her resurrection / initially ‘dies’. “ Strangely enough, no matter what I do, I attract the “eyes” of people around me. ” “ In my later years of elementary school, something I drew just happened to catch the attention of a well-known author. It became the cover of one of their novels, and on top of that, the novel became a huge hit. ” [^ both quotes, Momo, Kisaragi Attention (Novels Route) ]

Around this time, Momo’s snake also leaves Azami (confirmed by Azami herself; later theorized by Shintaro + Ayano while Hibiya is also present, after Hibiya’s seen Azami’s memories.) Shintaro is aware of what’s happening to Momo during elementary. [^ confirmed via Manga Route 2]

“ 10 years ago ”

The Dan’s estimate of when all of these events began [Novels] as well as for how long the timelines have been repeating.

A “monster” speaks to Kano [Yobanashi Deceive pv] [Music Route]

in Novels Route, this “monster” is Clearing Eyes.

Kano confirms later on he won’t listen to Saeru anymore. [^ Novels Route]

Kano also confirms Kenjirou maybe doesn’t remember anything that happens to him while possessed. (as far as he knows) [^ Novels Route]

“ from the very start ”

Manga Route 2: Saeru [Clearing Eyes] possesses Hibiya.

Ayano asked when the snake entered Hibiya’s body

“long before” he killed Kido and before Hibiya met Ayano.

The speaker of “Imaginary Reload” (presumed Mary) mentions this has repeated some “hundreds of times” now.

Obon / Bon Festival

Mentioned by Kenjirou to Momo in Novels [Kisaragi Attention].

The festival of Obon lasts for three days; however its starting date varies within different regions of Japan. When the lunar calendar was changed to the Gregorian calendar at the beginning of the Meiji era, the localities in Japan reacted differently and this resulted in three different times of Obon. "Shichigatsu Bon" ("Bon in July") is based on the solar calendar and is celebrated around 15 July in eastern Japan (Kantō region such as Tokyo, Yokohama and the Tōhoku region), coinciding with Chūgen. "Hachigatsu Bon" (Bon in August) is based on the lunar calendar, is celebrated around the 15th of August and is the most commonly celebrated time. "Kyū Bon" (Old Bon) is celebrated on the 15th day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar, and so differs each year. "Kyū Bon" is celebrated in areas like the northern part of the Kantō region, Chūgoku region, Shikoku, and the Okinawa Prefecture. These three days are not listed as public holidays but it is customary that people are given leave.

Mentioned by Hiyori Asahina in Novels Route [Kagerou Daze I]: "Heh, the truth is, my brother-in-law [Kenjirou] is her [Momo]'s school teacher. An idol as a student, like, seriously! A moment ago he called me and said, 'I'll help you get her signature, why don't you come here and have fun during the Obon?' Sooo, I was planning to go there as a trip, but my parents went mad, saying 'you don't even bother to study well, but you're still playing tricks like this~', things like that."

Didn’t you say you had a filming for a drama today or something?” 　　Momo: “Yes… Ah, wait! Class is going to start! I still have time!” 　　 Kenjirou: “It’s written here in the schedule for supplementary lessons, isn’t it? Since it’s Obon, 10th graders only go to first period today. You have the next three days off. Why don’t look at the schedule for once…” 　　Momo: “Ehhh?! Ah, you’re right……” 　　 Looking at the schedule he took out, there really was only one lesson today. 　　 Don’t tell me he found out that I’ve attending my supplementary classes without looking at the schedule like this…… 　　Momo: “Err…… Well, I’ll see you in three days!” 　　 Kenjirou: “Yeah. It would be bad if you didn’t take a break on Obon. Well, I’m going home, so be careful on your way back.” 　　 Momo: “I’ll be fine! I’ll take my leave for today!”

‘ Otsukimi ’ / Tsukimi (Moon Viewing)

Tsukimi (月見) or Otsukimi (お月見), literally moon-viewing, also known as Jugoya (十五夜), are Japanese festivals honoring the autumn moon, a variant of the Mid-Autumn Festival. The celebration of the full moon typically takes place on the 15th day of the eighth month of the traditional Japanese calendar; the waxing moon is celebrated on the 13th day of the ninth month. These days normally fall in September and October of the modern solar calendar. The tradition dates to the Heian era, and is now so popular in Japan that some people repeat the activities for several evenings following the appearance of the full moon during the eighth lunisolar month. Date: September or October

Hiyori’s age is more likely to be conflicting due to her birthday being March, placing her on the younger end of a Japanese school year.] [It is unknown if Jin did this for some intentional reason, but their ages, unlike Momo’s, don’t conflict nearly as much with the rest of the casts’. Again, may be for intentional reason.]

　 “I’ve got time to spare, huh…… Hm?” 　　 When I looked at my watch, it still showed as 8:15 A.M. I was taken aback for a second, but then I remembered that it had stopped this morning. It was my favorite watch that Mom bought for me last year as a birthday present. Its life was too short. I don’t remember handling it too roughly as to quicken its death, so it’s probably just a dead battery. When I get home, I’ll have my stupid brother look at it. 　　 I took out my touch screen phone that had a gaudy pink case. Even though I had a cell phone, I only really used it for work-related things. 　　 If I used it to talk about a favorite T.V. show or about love with a close friend every night, I’d probably be a professional with this device. But when it comes to T.V. shows, I only really watch historical dramas, and I don’t even have a friend to talk to about that, let alone love…… 　　 Although I could more or less grasp the reason for that, it wasn’t really a bad thing. It’s just that each time my phone is in my hand, I find myself hit with an unexplainable feeling of emptiness. That’s why I didn’t like this device. 　　 “9:30, huh…… The filming is at 2, so I have to be home by 1……” 　　 I tapped the screen of my phone and opened my planner, and the tumultuous business schedule was displayed. Under August 14 was the filming for the drama at 2, a live performance on a radio talk show at 6, and then rehearsal for a concert, all closely written together. 　　 Today, my manager is supposed to come pick me up at my house at 1 o’clock. 　　 Even though I’ve gotten used to it, my extremely packed schedule recently made me really depressed. 　　 While I am happy about it, I’ve got nothing but bad memories about the song. 　　 The main reason is that on the day of the recording, my manager got extremely mad at me because I had gotten a bad cold and couldn’t help but sing in a nasally voice. But the producer loved it and said that it “very well represented the dilemma an adolescent girl would go through facing an unrequited love,” and ended up being on the CD. 　　 At the time, I didn’t feel like it actually happened due to my fever, but sometime later on, my nasally song started to drift into the town, and my meal sizes got halved. For the time being, things were fine since it was still summer break* [*of the previous year], but as I thought about how in the world I would face the people at school next semester, I grew even more depressed. 　　 I felt the energy leave my body with a sigh. The suffocating heat didn’t help, either. 　　 I had been breaking in and out of a busy sweat, but I could slowly feel my forehead starting to sweat again. 　　 “I guess I should go home……” 　　 There was no point in staying here. I put my phone away in my pocket and stood up from my seat. 　　 I felt a slight cooling sensation as I freed my leg that stuck to the chair and tried to look far off into the distance. On the other side of the school you could hear various shouts and cheering echoing on the grounds. 　　 Those voices, which could probably be called “youth,” felt somehow distant from me, and for some reason, made me feel like I was being rushed. 　　 As I began to walk and sighed for the umpteenth time, I found a flyer placed on the table that the schoolgirls were sitting earlier. 　　 It looked like a flyer that came from a new knick-knack shop in front of a train station with characters cluttered together in colorful, round lettering. 　　 The giant “August 13th and 14th” seemed to be jumping out from the paper, which meant that the event was yesterday and today* [*August 14th]. 　　 After looking around carefully, I picked up the flyer. 　　 And at that moment, I couldn’t believe my own eyes.

　　 In all honesty, I had no interest in a knick-knack shop like this, but this one thing at the very, very bottom, which was probably only there to fill up space on the flyer, was an unbelievably cute charm listed as a “Benisake-chan Strap.” 　　 Since the picture was rather small, I could only get the gist of what it looked like, but just by the silhouette of the legs that were clearly in a place where legs shouldn’t be, I could tell that it held exceptional talent. 　　 I swallowed the drool that was pooling in my mouth, and anxiously checked my surroundings again. 　　 If you looked at the flyer, you could clearly see “Limited time offer!” written, although it wasn’t very clear what the offer was for.

　　 I stood there for a second and stuffed the flyer in my bag.

　　 With my hand on my hip, I drank what was left in my bottle, threw it in the trash can, and quickly left the school. ——

sometime between ““timeframe”” of “2 years ago” [Ayano’s, Takane’s, and Haruka’s deaths] -> present (timeframe wise, not Routes wise!): re: Takane dying in her second year of high school [“2 years ago”]: [*this also includes Haruka initially dying during the exact same grade.] “ When she was in her second year of high school, she lost her life when someone administered her with a drug, entering the Kagerou Daze. She is then possessed by the snake with the “Eye Opening” power, gaining an immortal spirit. ” - “Ene’s ” Introduction (2013) (Kagerou Daze Booklet; from Mekakucity Records album release) This was all also confirmed via novel 2. “ In his second year of high school, he suffers a sudden stroke and loses his life, entering into the Kagerou Daze. He is possessed by the snake of the "Awakening Eyes" ability, acquiring the ability to remake his body into one that he finds to be his "ideal." In the middle of it he gets involved in a traffic accident while shopping with Hiyori and comes into contact with the Kagerou Daze. - KANO’S AGE IS CORRECTED TO “17″ IN SIDU’S 2015 ARTBOOK - while Kido’s remained the conflicting “17″ l-lol (she’s 16) - Momo’s “16″ was not seemingly shown in this guidebook, despite the “script”’s previous setting conflicts. - This guidebook is official, canonical information as of 2015. - Please note Kisaragi Attention chapter + MCA were circa 2014 and before. Basically, if Momo is 15, Kido is 16. <---- works for near everyone ! !!! If Momo is 16, Kido can only be 17. If Kido (Jan 02) is 17, Kano (May 10) can only be 18. We know Kano is not 18 because Shintaro is 18, Ayano 17 chronologically. We know Momo’s grades otherwise fit her age range despite the conflicting script re: exact “age” Therefore, one must assume either Momo’s or Kido’s are wrong. Although we do not know how Saeru killed Takane for real (It could be anything, overdosing or poisons included. But we have no canon info on it yet.) Actually I’ve been corrected. She was explicitly poisoned to die, but it’s likely her fall prior did not come from that. Takane’s collapse was not caused by prior poisoning from Saeru or Kenjirou. Takane suffers from a fictionalized version of Narcolepsy, one of which’s symptoms is catalepsy, which is defined as:

Cataleptic attacks are a sudden loss of muscle control. This may be just a slight feeling of weakness, such as sagging facial muscles. The head might drop forward or worse, buckling of the knees resulting in total collapse of the person.

In severe cases, the patient can become completed paralysed, lasting for a few seconds to several minutes. During this time, the patient may seem to be unconscious, but can be fully awake and temporarily unable to move. A very frightening situation to be in. These attacks can be brought on by emotions: anger, surprise, fear or even laughter.

Note the mention of emotions. Takane was not only straining her body by running as fast as she could, but she was also under a lot of emotional pressure. She was stressed, anxious, and generally a complete mess. This led to her collapse.

Another interesting thing to note is that: Yes, this means she was likely awake and conscious during however Saeru killed her.

Claim: Haruka and Konoha are one in the same Why it’s false:

Konoha is not Haruka with amnesia, but rather his own entity. Haruka’s mind was left in the Haze, while his body was sent back out and made ‘ideal’. Since it had nothing to control it, Konoha was the... Go to response of his snake and his body. A new consciousness. An autopilot of sorts. Haruka can see everything Konoha does, but has no control over it.

This is discussed during the sixth novel, and implied in MCA.

Kano is the cat in Kagerou Days: Why it’s (Partially) false:

This is a piece of misinfo even listed on the wiki. But there’s no reasonable way it could have happened. Kano is not the cat in Kageou Days, as there is no chronological way for him to have been in the Haze at that time.

Kano DID, however, kill Hibiya and Hiyori in the novel route, as a cat with suspiciously red eyes that gave Hibiya the creeps is described. This cat attempted to lure them near traffic, until the argument ensued, and Hiyori ran into the road.

It is likely that the cat in Kagerou Days is inspired by Kano being a factor in their deaths in some timelines. Much like how there’s fire in Kido’s haze, or medical equipment in Haruka’s. Kano, being an element in their death, is recreated to simulate their deaths over and over again. That said, this is not the actual Kano.

The woman in Shintaro’s nightmares is Ayano: Why it’s (Partially) false:

The girl in the following scenes is not Ayano, but a creature fairly unknown by the western fandom called Yakisukeru. Aka the Snake of Retaining Eyes, and Shintaro’s snake.

The easiest way to tell Yaki and Ayano apart is that Yaki NEVER wears Ayano’s scarf. Even in other weird situations or memories Ayano typically has her iconic red scarf.

As for why Yaki takes the appearance of Ayano: It’s likely because Ayano is such a prominent and traumatizing figure in Shintaro’s life. Yaki’s duty as a snake is different than the others. She is not made by Azami, but rather by Mary, so “No-one would ever forget this tragedy.” She acts as a vessel for Shintaro to remember past timelines, and tries time and time again for the memories to click. Ayano is the easiest way to do that, likely.

Yaki appears across MCA (And was the key to the happy ending of it), in the novels, typically on darkened pages, and in Lost Time Memory.

also you know what -

i seriously want to make an ages chart because tbh i am sick of ages issues

legit most of them are closer in age and also depending on timeline than not

the gist of it I get is basically: - Momo is supposedly a “ first year in high school ” BUT has a “conflicting age” [ also in novel 1 she was taking supplementary summer courses ..... so ] (because her birthday is in February and the loops happen August 15th.) (and the Japanese school year begins in April and ends in March) (technically SHE ISN’T SUPPOSED TO HAVE HAD HER BIRTHDAY YET) (meaning closer to 15) [ her official pixiv profile states this as well, also in Japanese ] [ you can even translate it yourself ] [ though the conflicting age issue was also confirmed by others ] ( * even the anime staff has noted the “conflicting age” issue due the script? ) [ .... my theory is the loops screw up her age considering August 15th ] [ either that or supplementary classes related things and job as an Idol ] [ that’s a theory though but we’ll see if we get more info on that time period ] [ the time period of February 14th, her birthday, that is ]

- Kido & Kano are in their second year of high school Kano is officially stated to be 17 in newer materials, too. [ also his birthday’s May 10, older than Kido ] Kido is closer to [a late ?] 16-going-on-17 her birthday is January 03, only about *seven months behind Kano. [ keep this in mind ] - Seto is in the same year as Kido & Kano. [March 28th] closest to Kido / the youngest of the Trio.

source for Japanese school system details ”Children who have their 6th birthday on or before April 1 enter the first grade of elementary school of that year.” though there are some issues with exact ages placement still the basic thing to remember is Kagepro is set IN JAPAN. Not in America do not use an American school system when trying to calculate/refer to ages also note how Japanese high school is only three years. Junior high is also only three years, putting Hibiya CLOSER to Momo than not. (Elementary is 6 years, not 5 years like in the US.)
