A Tease in the Tavern (Diluc X Lumine)
Tumblr media
Kaeya bets Lumine that she can’t make Diluc smile. Determined, she spends the night teasing and annoying the ever-serious Darknight Hero while he tends to Angel’s Share. But when he finally does smile—soft, fleeting, and real—she realizes she wasn’t doing it just for the bet.
The warm glow of Angel’s Share flickered against polished oak and glinting glass, the air thick with the scent of aged wine and subtle spices. It was a quiet evening—rare for Mondstadt’s favorite tavern—save for the usual murmurs of patrons enjoying their drinks. Behind the bar, Diluc worked with practiced efficiency, his expression as unreadable as ever.
Lumine sat at the counter, chin propped on her palm, eyes twinkling with mischief. Beside her, Kaeya swirled his wine lazily, smirking.
“You’re awfully quiet tonight, Traveler,” Kaeya mused, his tone laced with amusement. “Thinking of your next grand adventure, or are you just enjoying the view?” His gaze flickered toward Diluc meaningfully.
Lumine scoffed. “I’m not that easily distracted.”
“Is that so?” Kaeya leaned in, his smirk widening. “Then, how about a little wager? I bet you can’t make dear Diluc smile before the night is over.”
Lumine straightened. “That’s it? Just a smile?”
Kaeya chuckled. “I’d say it’s harder than facing a Ruin Guard unarmed.”
She tilted her head, sizing up the red-haired bartender. Diluc hadn’t so much as acknowledged their conversation, save for the occasional flick of his eyes toward them. He was always like this—stoic, distant, as if the world outside his tavern mattered little.
But she had seen glimpses of something softer in him, beneath the weight of old wounds and responsibility. A smile? That was a challenge she was more than willing to take on.
Lumine tapped a finger against her lips. “Alright. You’re on.”
Kaeya grinned and leaned back. “This will be fun.”
Lumine started small—little quips, innocent remarks thrown his way as he poured drinks for patrons.
“Do you ever get tired of looking so serious?” she mused, watching as he wiped down a glass with meticulous care.
Diluc didn’t glance up. “I prefer efficiency over idle chatter.”
“Ah, but isn’t a good bartender supposed to entertain their guests?”
“I serve drinks, not performances.”
Kaeya chuckled into his glass, and Lumine huffed. Fine. Subtlety wasn’t the way to go.
She tried more direct means. Stealing his rag to mess with him. Dramatically sighing about how the tavern lacked a welcoming atmosphere. Even outright complimenting him—“You know, Diluc, you have very nice eyes when you’re not glaring at people.”
That one made his hands pause briefly before he resumed his work. Progress, but still no smile.
The night wore on, and the patrons began to dwindle, leaving only a handful of stragglers. Kaeya had long since settled into amused observation, watching as Lumine leaned over the bar, resting on her elbows.
“You know,” she drawled, “I think you’re afraid to smile.”
Diluc finally looked up, one brow arched. “Afraid?”
“Mhm. You act like it’s a weakness.”
“It’s unnecessary.”
Lumine tapped a finger against the wooden counter. “I think it’s because if you do smile, people will see that you’re not just Mondstadt’s brooding hero, but an actual human being. And that scares you, doesn’t it?”
For a second, something unreadable flickered in his eyes. Then, with a quiet sigh, he returned to polishing a glass.
Lumine exhaled, resting her chin in her palm. “Alright, fine. I give up. You win.”
Kaeya chuckled. “You fought bravely.”
But before Lumine could wallow in defeat, a sound—soft, almost imperceptible—broke through the quiet hum of the tavern.
A breath of laughter.
Not loud, not mocking. Just a quiet huff of amusement, paired with the tiniest, fleeting upward curve of his lips.
Lumine froze.
Kaeya’s eyes widened slightly, but he hid his surprise well. “Well, well,” he mused, swirling his wine. “Would you look at that?”
Diluc—calm, composed, and unreadable Diluc—had smiled.
Lumine swallowed. The satisfaction of winning the bet should have been her first thought, but strangely, it wasn’t.
Because now, looking at him, she realized something.
She hadn’t been teasing him just for the sake of the game.
And when her heart skipped a beat, she knew she was in trouble.

HC they first met a year or two after Yelan got her vision; post fighting the in abyss but when Kaeya was still navigating his identity from Kaeya, Brother and Right hand of Diluc Ragnvindr to Kaeya Alberich, Cavalry Captain and Quarter master of the Knights of Favonius.
#We know Kaeya's a bit of a sadist and does leave his men in the dark most of the time#Back when he he'd been newly appointed i feel he'd be quite reckless as to how much 'pushing' his knights could handle on missions#used to working from diluc's shadow rather than being the one to direct commands#And Yelan after her experience in the Abyss chooses to work alone and secrectively so that the lives of her comrades won't be in danger#She sees that Kaeya operates very much like her but he does not have the luxury to work as 'freely' as she does when it comes to official#missions for there are still people working under him#(ofc both of them do whatever they want when it comes to going of abyss side quests)#There's no way she doesn't feel some sort of kinship they're really similar in many aspects#she does not want to see a repeat of her certain mistakes#Yelan is also questioning how the actual fuck do the knights operate because why is a 16yr old beefing with her to get to a mafia boss firs#They come to 'good terms' as time passes where they have mutual respect for each other#both of them try their best to outwit each other form time to time of course#Kaeya being petty(er) and Yelan being 'i need to set this guy straight'#But back then after seeing Kaeya work missions for the first time Yelan's thinking that this kid is too smart for his good#additional hcs for Back In That Day#Yelan: -still hasn't gotten her signature bob. -often uses a crutch because Abyss did a number on her and her pre existing chronic illness#Kaeya- has a fuckass mullet#yeah.. my apolocheese for the ramble#genshin impact#genshin impact fanart#kaeya#kaeya alberich#yelan#yelan genshin impact#kms mention

Childe: "I want to ask for your brother's hand in marriage! I'd very much appreciate your blessing and I'm sure he would too!"
Diluc: "What fucking era are we in, pre-revolution? Why are you asking me- You know what. No. You can't. You have to go through five trials and three riddles you old-timey slimeball."

Kaeya, despite being a sickly and gentle child, was his own kind of nightmare for Crepus and the other Dawn Winery staff.
See, Diluc is prone to mischief and chaos, dragging along his younger brother and a couple of other children into his plots and messes.
But Kaeya? Kaeya is the type to end up in the most random, and I do mean most random, of places. He would vanish for several hours, only to be found in an unexpected location such as, oh let's say that one time, he was found eating fruit with some friendly hilichurls...IN LIYUE.
He was such a curious soul that would easily get distracted by the wonders of Teyvat, but since he is so silent in both words and movements, whoever is watching over him would lose sight of him just as quickly.
He has caused several search parties in his youth, only for people to find out he was following a seelie to a treasure chest or napping with a young wolf cub in Wolvendom.
Crepus swears that Kaeya and Diluc are competing on who can give him gray hairs the fastest (so far, Diluc is winning, but Kaeya sure is catching up with every scream of panic from a designated babysitter and Diluc)

oh god stupid thought: diluc willingly disowning kaeya that day bc he knew he was going to go after the past that caught up with Crepus and if anything happens to him, he doesn't want Kaeya to follow too or get involved. (The cryo vision being the thing that 'saved' kaeya in the end in their fight? felt like a sign)
Turns out, it went better than hoped bc he's alive but mondstadt had changed so much since he's been gone and he still doesn't know if he'll also end up like his father again so he doesn't even try to amend things (smthng smthng bc he doesn't feel he deserves it either). Kaeya never learns what Diluc learned about Crepus, just that he went on a rampage in snezhnaya.

Am I the only person who wonder who and what the hell Kaeya’s mom was?
If we go on what we know about Kaeya so far:
- He was born in Khaenri’ah
- He’s from the Alberich clan- a noble clan that has strong military ties and also a clan with whom one of them would found the Abyss Order.
- He can speak hilichurlian and possibly other languishes as well. (Kaeya said post archon quest that he had linguistic talents).
- His father called him the ‘last hope’
In all of this I’m just wondering who Kaeya’s mom is. Kaeya never mentions her so how significant is she to his life? How much did she know? And what’s the relationship between her and Kaeya’s father?
Makes me wonder if Kaeya was some sort of prophecy baby or if his parents actually loved each other.
I’ve even see theories of Kaeya’s mother being a descendant of Nubu Malikata or part seelie etc… so I’m really interested to know she was and what her story was.
