Kaemugi Week 2023: Day 1 - Hero / Villain Do you see what happened in black and white? Shades of grey? Or in the full nuanced colour of two girls? Happy kaemugi week, thank you @kaemugi-week for running it and giving us prompts! Went for some more subtle symbolism on roles using both prompts. Nothing fancy but always a treat to use my ink pens and markers.

Hey there, gang! Long time no post. I write a lot of evil Kaemugi so given that @kaemugi-week has got something happening rn I thought it was past time I actually make something wholesome for them. This one is for Day 3's prompt, Dress Up/Dress Down, though I'll admit it only adheres to the prompt loosely at best.

This is a Salmon Mode AU fic where they've been hanging out between dates for a couple weeks now. The two of them have a lot of talking to do about things, and you never know what might happen! Hoo buddy.

Hope you all enjoy the fic! I'm going to hibernate until the next time I drop something for a ship week, see you.

(Sorry I'm posting in 2024 😂 Posting into tag as credit for the theme, I had initially decided not to do this in favor of doing the comic and animation on time for the week- I finished this now because I like it to not scrap it XD)

I'm happy of the friends I made through Kaemugi week :')

I realised this is my 2nd cosplay themed drawing, I had started cosplaying last year and had a lot of fun n happy memories 🥺💖 I never expected it to be so fun, I'm happy to get to meet other beautiful n nice cosplayers 🥰

Anyway about this drawing, there's a lot of anime references so have fun figuring them out 👀 Or read on for answers 😏

Initially I wanted to draw Kaede as a Death Note Shinigami but changed to Snow White due to the apple symbolism 👀

Kaede is Snow White who is the "fairest of them all", giving Tsumugi (Misa) justice/fairness, thus Tsumugi is in love and will kill for Kaede (Kaede is Tsumugi's Light (Misa's Light) kills Rantaro in Death Note Plot Twist: Tsumugi is the one who set up the posioned apple (shot put ball) to make Kaede fall to sin and commit the crime (In folktales and mythologies, apple symbolize man's fall to sin, temptation) to start the killing game The Poisoned Apple is a magic blood-red apple which will send its victim into Sleeping Death when bitten. Thus Kaede is asleep ^Hope that's not too mind blowing to read 😂
