Cyanotype
I liked this process so I wanted to re work the image of the plastic bag in the water. I took my prints from yesterday and added them in . I used articles on microplastics and plastics in fish to add a formal layer .
I made a word document with my fish print , printed it and stuck it onto black sugar paper. I photocopied it to be negative then photocopied it on acetate.
I redid the bag picture as I wanted it to be darker, so I did the same process but using a heavily contrasted b&w photo.
I liked the look of text on prints and wanted to give it an editorial look , some more formal , so I took text from the national geographic article on micro plastics and science direct on microplastics in brown trout. I made a document then copied it on acetate.
I then layers them into a composition I liked. And put into cyanotype machine using the page I prepared yesterday .
It turned out not bad , looked washed out but it adds to the atmosphere. The bag is the main focus and the creepy fish are an embellishment to emphasise the destruction of SUP pollution.

After finishing the jewellery I went to the photography studio with @k00278086real and @k00279452 to experiment with the projector and to photograph my teeth jewellery. There was little equipment there for the day that was in it so I just used the camera on my phone! I’m delighted with how they turned out although the quality of my camera could be better! I used my acetate print from my Cyanotype workshop and the teeth I’ve been using as primary research within this project temporary.
This ended up being a more contemporary take of Victorian tooth jewellery. I ended up focusing more on producing portraits than taking images of the jewellery which has me thinking about portraiture.
Portraiture played a big role during the Victorian period, particularly Cyanotype! I want to look further into this which my teeth jewellery in mind!

Stop Motion of Sculpture
I had intended to animate the plastic fish , hence the sections. I wanted to literally and metaphorically display the movement of plastic .The shadow adds an eerie ness .
I messed up on the last part , I made a gap in the movement so it looks jumpy. The table shows in the corner which i would rather it didn't ,as its a distraction .

Ceramic crab ( part of ceramics ‘bottle’ )
I wired up the crab , bringing it together , I decided not to to glaze the crab , as I found it unimportant, it by itself doesn’t directly relate to my theme. I just wanted to see it done. The crab is a pair with the ceramic bottle , as it is its new home , showing the effected envirnoment beneath the see.

Glazing ceramics
I decided to glaze my ceramics I made earlier on , I had initially intended to ‘paint’ with plastic but decided against it as it would take up too much time an i wanted to experiment with other mediums and ideas .
I used a turquoise glaze , I thought the colour was quit nice , reminded me of the sea ,and of course blue plastic bottles .i filled the inside then emptied it , let dry then dipped the outside. I enjoyed this process.

Plastic fish sculpture
(Work in progress)
Today I connected the pieces with rivets , so its moveable .I drilled holes before putting in the rivets .
I melted the plastic of the tail , which shrank the plastic and made it slightly curved which looks very interesting. I think the textures the heat manipulation produces resemble the sea , calm slicks of water.
I looked at molding the plastic to the 3D fish head . This was working however I ran out of big enough pieces of plastic to meld to the form as they all shrank.

Printmaking workshop
This evening I did the print making work shop , where we etched onto acetate and then moved onto a relief print with a wood block.
My idea behind this piece was of plastic pollution in aquatic environment and how it harms it, like the sculpture I am working on I took the form of fish bones . I decided to make the head a bottle top to show the versitude.
I liked the naturist form of the bones in the first one , but with the wood block it turned out to be difficult to create curves , so It came out ridged.

Print of Bags
I layered the acetate negatives I had left over , and photo copied it to create this image . I liked the negative in colour , I think it draws attention to the object .
The 3 bags relate to consumerism and while amplify the concept of single use plastics used and abused , bought over and over again to be thrown away . The image gets smaller , touching on how plastics breakdown into micro plastics.
I tried to clean up the image in photoshop but found it difficult, there are too many colours and textures that when I went to edit it , it lost its effect. So I just kept it as is here.
if i had more time i would add typography here - 'caution' or 'beware , extremely dangerous' , once more relating to the destruction of SUP's.

concept - SUP
My project started off looking at rubbish and how like and shadow interacts with it .
It progressed to single use plastics and how temporary its use is , leaving behind the element of light and shadow as a main aspect , but using it to enhance the plastic element.
I looked into plastics in our environment , what plastic waste we generate and where it ends up .
I looked at microplastics in the body prompted by an article on microplastic found in breast milk.
I furthered my research with plastics in the sea and how it effects its inhabitants which inevitably was a catalyst for destruction.

Poster Typography
I thought the poster looked bare , so I decided to add text by printing on it .i brain stormed ideas on a discarded print. I chose this as it represents how dangerous SUP are to our environment by comparing it to a wanted criminal while also a nod to consumerism .
I realised after I messed up the last letters ‘ED’ , but I think it adds to the abnormal quality of it .

Graphic Poster
Further more developing the images of the weird fish and bag into another piece , i decided to try a poster format.
I research poster on plastic pollution to get ideas…and saw that the images are emotive.
I decided on the dead fish trapped in the plastic bag . I kept it black and white , as the imagery was the focus of the composition. It has an X-ray effect which connects to plastics in the body. I left in the bits of seaweed , so you can see it’s still in the ocean.
I used photoshop throughout this process to edit the shapes , change the colours and the clean up the images .
I printed on A3 , there’s 2 different papers here one is lighter than the other , ideally card would look better .
Im not sure if I should’ve add text to furthermore the concept .

Digital Cut Out Animation
Carrying on the images of the bag and water bottle fish , i created an cut out animation . I wanted to use the leftover prints i made for the cyanotype.
I planned a story board, visualizing the composition. I wanted the apocalyptic fish going in the opposite direction of the bag , to represent the disruption of the natural environment. The black and white has an eerie quality to it , while the hint of blue on the plastic bag draws attention to it , showings it doesn't belong.
I created the water sound in my sink at home and added it on through premiere pro . I liked how it turned out , ideally I would like there to be more going on , but it would take too long and I don’t have that time . The movement of the fish are a little ridged.

Fish Sculpture
This is the finished product representing the detrimental effect SUP pollution has on the Environment. I used the form of a fish skeleton as a Memento Mori. I primarily used plastic water bottles , which in itself is a contradicting concept , something vital to our survival in something that is disrupting our survival.
I used Bostick glue to attach bones and bolts and washers to connect the sections , giving it movement. I melted the plastic for the head and tail, with a heat gun , to warp to plastic into form.
I decided to photograph the fish in a commercial way , bring back the idea of marketed plastic - clean and bright.
I filmed a thé motion of the fish, comparable to a dinasour fossil ( will probably last as long ) , capturing the texture and mesmerising movement . Here shows how the plastic travels from 3D to 2D , from bottle to micro plastic. Interesting the plastic resembles water .
